My son had surgery for cancer in his salivary gland when he was 12 years old. The dr. had to cut his ear off and lift it back to reach the cancerous gland. No one thought to take note if his ear lobes were genetically attached (like his dad’s) or unattached (like mine). You guessed it, they reattached it the wrong way…unattached. So now he has one of each. He’s in his thirty’s now, it has never bothered him. In fact in high school biology when their teacher told the class that a person had either attached or unattached earlobes but never one of each . He and his friends had a good time “proving her wrong”.
Thankfully the cancer was removed with one short surgery and he has never had anymore problems. The surgery was preformed at MD Anderson, an amazing hospital. It was a very unusual cancer for anyone, especially a child. All glory to God!
Wow. I'm both so happy your kid survived a potentially horrific disease and amused by the biology class story!
I stopped wearing make up decades ago and my skin has benefitted. I have no desire to pretend to be years younger than I am. There is a grace and beauty in aging and these procedures simply stoke the culture of youth when the wisdom that life experience brings is of more importance.
True facelifts are disgusting and is not natural
What are you guys doing here, then?...
@@dammar117 it’s because we saw joe Biden in the pictures
I stopped wearing makeup, too, only some light eyeshadow, because I love to match colors to my outfits. And I agree that we shouldn't stoke the culture of youth, and that wisdom is far more important.
That being said, it is an unfortunate reality that that wisdom comes at the price of physical decay. I don't want to look young (I never even did when I was young), but sagging skin is just a reminder of decay, and I don't want that.
@@ummtaimann6819 LOL.
I've had surgery after cancer. I was told by the doctors to always have a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, instead of just plastic surgery certified. Great results.
I find these videos so educational. I really like this doc. I'd love to know who did Micky Rouke's facelift. I'm assuming the doctor is hiding somewhere in the Witness Protection Program.
also Burt Reynolds !!!!
So sad he was a smashing looking fella and boxing does not mash your face up to look that bad. 😢

@@kite6864 nooo more like a 'frenemy!' ha!
Mickey Rourke, not Micky Rouke. He's had numerous procedures, it's kinda silly to focus only on one.
Wow, your surgeon really needs to be an artist as well as a great doctor.
I had a facelift in my 60s.And believe me ladies it was painless. So glad I did it.
Painless? It is painful. ☹
I had a breast reduction they took 2 and a 1/2 pounds off a one breast and about a pound and a 1/2 of the other cause breaster aren't even and it was a 7 hour surgery and I've never been happier
Great to hear positive outcomes like you two. And great reasons, too. Plastic surgery is a good thing when done for the right reasons.
Hi Barbara , I am so thinking of having lower face and neck lift . Any tips or advice . I am 60
@@debraleonard6847 Debra, the only bad thing was that I was under anesthesia for a long time. And made me very sick for about 2 hours. But for the pain ,I had no pain. The only thing is a slight headache. But I had a full face lift. But everyone is different. Wish u a lot of luck. I am glad I had mine.
Years ago I was fortunate to work with a very good Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in So. California. Many people in the industry came to him and I was surprised by a few he turned down, telling them they didn't need a facelift yet. One you showed of this video. She later came in to tell him, I should have listened to you. He was one of those conservative surgeons.
First time i saw 'obvious' surgery in person was a very elderly woman where I worked. She had a very old voice, very stretched face and a VERY old neck. It was a very strange experience when you're not used to seeing it!
😳🤣
In some places you see this so often that it becomes really normal.
@@TheMariemarie16 yeah I bet. It’s not common here where I am at all (apart from obvious lip fillers and Botox which is around but even then, not the norm)
I am glad you brought out President up because I have always thought his face looked weird, I just didnt think he was the type to get a face lift but then again, it makes sense. More every day.
Imagine if he actually looked 80. He would have never been elected. Politicians get procedures to appear vibrant and capable.
4:09 "that windblown or joker face look" had me dying.
When I was a kid my aunt had a facelift and when she came over for the first time afterword I didn't even know who she was and cried when my mother tried to convince me it was actually my aunt. She never looked like her at all again.
The examples from your clinic are beautiful 😍

I want to age gracefully & naturally. Im 70, dont like face makeup & people still say I dont look anyway near my age. However I know. My only concern is my profile where I can see sagging under my chin/neck. I wish there was a simple solution (no rubber bands behind my head!) :) but I enjoy listening to your candid opinions of facelifts. Excellent explanations.
Go for the facelift. Don't let moral judgement stand in the way of something that really interests you. There's nothing graceful about hanging skin, and there's no reason to allow natural decay. I want to age as the best version of myself. What is graceful? Elegance, attractiveness, grooming. What is natural? We exercise in man-made facilities with machines, we watch our diet with supplements and carefully produced foods, we get dental care like fillings and implants, we go to the hair salon to get our hair cut and colored. We use cars, cell phones, appliances, computers, medical drugs, flush toilets.
Taking advantage of modern commodities and technology is not a bad thing.
Aging leads to death. While death can't be avoided, the natural path to it is not a glorious one.
I say, get your facelift and be happy about it.

I had to one. It was amazingly pain free. Just a bit uncomfortable for a day or so.
Mine was terribly painful.
@@Rosary716 Sorry to hear that. I somewhat find it hard to believe that a facelift is not painful at all. And that is why I am so hesitant.
It was 2003. Maybe miracles have improved the procedure. It felt as if my ears were severely burned and I only had the lower face done. I’m still happy with my neck, as at 75 I have no turkey neck nor many wrinkles ,but the first week was hell.

I won’t ever go under the knife or syringe. I do appear ten years younger than my chronological age. Why? I avoid an acidic diet. No alcohol. I take good care of my liver so hopefully, my glutathione levels are high. Nutrition is key. Some may choose a face lift but nutrition is the key to staying young! 🥰✨
I had a top certified plastic surgeon in Sacramento, CA, do my facelift and I was in excruciating pain during the first 24 to 48 hours afterwards! I truly wondered if I would be able to tolerate it and felt I should’ve been kept in the hospital for pain management! I literally had the first full blown panic attack of my life because I was so far from being able to cope with that amount of pain- so I’d like to know what went wrong there!!
Did you ever find out?
Excellent and educational.
Dr. Motykie is using my favorite technical term.... poofy! Love your videos.
What a great educational video! Wish I lived closer to CA!
I had a facelift and I look 10 years younger. My ears were sore for a few weeks. I have had many people asking me how I manage to look so great at 56. Best investment ever. I am a gym fanatic and my body matches my face. Love love love😅
I am so intrigued! I have had some fillers and some BOTOX. I recently had a blepharoplasty to correct my field of vision. I would love to have a facelift! Thank you for being an educational doctor (my favorite kind!).
Just remember that once you're put to sleep and go under the knife of any doctor, your face is in their hands. At that point it's a crap shoot. Maybe one's face is better left as is. All about choices....and luck.
@@darlingusa2pettee57 I agree that there is risk. You investigate and get referrals. You look at their pictures of before and after. I have had 2 Board Certified Plastic Surgeons work on my breasts, following cancer. My breasts look pretty good due to their skill, and my following after care instructions. Here is the thing: don't go overboard! Get a tweak. Most PS are not in favor of multiple procedures at one time. Most PS will say, "No" when they need to. Sadly, some PS will not (example, the PS for Priscilla Presley, Simon Cowell, Michael Jackson, Madonna).
I like your point about choosing a surgeon and their aesthetic eye and artistic talent. I have noticed with the different plastic surgeon that have have shown after pictures that symmetry just doesn’t seem right to me. Claudia, I agree with you. After looking at a lot of after pictures by different surgeons of different ethnicities, I am curious if the ethnicity of the plastic surgeon plays a big role. I wonder if it’s because when a plastic surgeon sees his or her reflection or has grown up in a certain culture they would apply what is familiar and what they are surrounded with as an artistic eye to their patients.
@@karenfischer very interesting, like nosejobs, usually they do a eurocentric nose but at times it wont match with some characteristics of some races
Hello Claudia, I just had a great face lift, and my doctor actually said as a compliment that , African American women ,even at 70 look so good, that they don't need a face lift.
I have noticed that people like the gorgeous Dianne Carroll looked a bit aged by 80, though. I also have been noticing that the many great facelift doctors in the world
are of Scandinavian descent . I think it's because people in that part of the world age sooner, being fair skinned. I'm a medium skin caucasian and aged way better than
most of the Nordic people. Still, with everyone living longer, there is a market for African American face lifts and someone should start specializing in it. My makeup artist
is a very dark African American and went to an African American plastic surgeon for an upper eye lift over 10 years ago and had a droop in one eye, and lots of problems correcting
it. He thought his surgeon would understand how to work with his heavier skin texture, just because he had the same skin. So it doesn't matter what the race of the surgeon is
as long as he/she understands what to do. I agree there needs to be work and attention paid to different ethnic skin types in plastic surgery. A lot of business is being missed out.

Good info!!! Tell me, what was your procedure and who did it?!!!!?
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to afford a facelift, but I’d love to know to what extent fat transfer and lasers can help the mid 60’s face. My diet is good and I live in a colder clime but I’ve got the dreaded jowls and fat loss
Instead of lasers, try retinol night creams. It’s amazing.
Retinols are amazing for the skin, but they won't do anything for the jowls, which are the fat pads that have descended due to laxity of the internal structures.
What’s the average age for women getting a facelift? Are mini facelifts the same as a regular one?
Ty for honesty.
I know you've already done Jennifer aniston a few months ago, but could you please do an update on her please? Every time I see her in an interview or her latest season of her show, she looks different.. Mouth area and cheeks etc, has she had a facelift recently or is it just fillers.. As her mouth is starting to have that wide pulled look.,in my opinion 💚✨
Amazing, measured commentary! I know there are so many charlatans out there, as in they are certified surgeons, but not accredited plastic surgeons. Always surprised at those who have the means for good work go cheaper.
There are also subspecialties in plastic surgery. :) For example, the oculo-plastic surgeons who ~only work on eyes~. They tend to work on the worst cases such correcting damage done by hyperthyroid eye disease. Patients can get that bulgy goldfish eye look. (Exophthalmia.) Quite socially crippling and it can cause other issues. 💔 Those surgeons can mostly reverse that. (!) Genius. It’s important to find someone who does a certain set of procedures all day, every day. Avoid those who claim they ‘can do everything’ and do it masterfully. [Nobody can live up to that.] 😩
I had a blocked tear duct and my ophthalmologist sent me to an ocular plastic surgeon. They also do surgery on people that have had cancer around the eye and nose.
Hey, Dr. Gary, it might be a good idea to keep up with these thematic videos. Instead of analysing 1 person, you talk for example about the lips in general and take different celebs as examples 🤗
Very interesting!
Your facelifts look like rejuvenation. Great work doc!

The most obvious tell-rale sign to be is a 70 years old with no turkey neck or jowls, or lines around mouth. If I'm gonna pay upwards of $30,000, I want people to know that it wasn't the turmeric diet. The funniest excuse I ever heard was someone trying to tell me she looked so much younger because of Retin-A. That stuff's good, but not that good.
70? Make that 55. At least.

@@judytaylor3099 That seems so young, Judy! I'm 45 now and don't feel I'm ready for a facelift. Do you still look younger than your age?
I have a plastic surgeon where I live, don't want to disclose my area. He's good for removing my brown keratosis. But I don't feel he's as good for other procedures. QUESTION, can you use botox under eyes to smooth the bags and sagging?
You can use filler to smooth the bags but not botox.
Or the ratios between facial parts are off.
And the sinking of the eyeballs isn't addressed by plastic surgery.
Great point!!!
Sometimes its not obvious that someone had facelift. One case Im totally confused: Jim Carrey. He looks like who had a good sleep and I know when he looked old he had problems (depression, burn out, etc). So maybe he is just happy now. Or he may have had plastic surgery. What do you think???
5 Years ago my sister underwent a breast amputation because she had breast cancer. Not so long ago she had a breast reconstruction. It’s amazing what can be done nowadays. This new breast makes her feel so much better. She feels “whole” again. Now I must say that I am lucky to live in a country where cancer treatments, revalidation, psychological therapy, wigs and even reconstructive surgery is greatly covered by our social system. Otherwise people would be broke after having cancer.
You’re the best.
The thing is physiologically floppy skin isn't loose skin, it's skin over muscles of the face that are too tight. When those facial muscles are stretched back out, the skin on top lays smooth again with less excess kinda like fabric over elastic waistband. Of course, If there's muscle wasting, or a mass removal, that's different. Skin on a face is not like skin on your arms or legs. You can't pull the skin off a face like a jacket, like skinning a squirrel. Facial skin has fibrous attachments to the muscle underneath which allows us to form facial expressions, bob our eyebrows, flare nostrils, squint, or twitch away an annoyance. Faces have variations because of those fibers. And it's those fibers that drag skin with them as muscle underneath shrinks , bunching skin on top. There will always be some muscle wasting in places naturally from everyday living. We chew a certain way, maybe one side more than the other, we sing, we smoke pipes or cigarettes, purse to drink wine, we grimace in ways characteristic to our personalities. All this leads to highs and lows of muscles, but the fibers never change. For instance, we get hollow cheeks with age as the muscle underneath shortens from repetitive chewing. The trampoline of skin and muscle between cheek bone and jaw bone shorten and the skin on top begins a glacial slide with gravity because there's no support for the ample epidermal real estate on top. But you CAN fill out your cheeks again with stretching that trampoline back out (being careful not to grab the skin doing it) so skin fibers are again perpendicular to their support.
Think about it. Children are born with naturally relaxed facial muscles, plump muscle support, and the skin attachment fibers sit perpendicular to the muscle layer beneath. As we mature, all that changes with repetitive actions. To regain some of that skin support, we have to restore the foundation to it's youthful length.
Not taking all this basic biology into account leads plastic surgeons to concentrate on skin as if there's too much of it, with complete disregard for the flattened support structure, and eventually the skin on top has no more stretch in it and surgery is no help either. Skin is glassy, pores given a 'nap' orientation, and support fiber structures so deranged, that final aging is never pretty or even particularly graceful at that stage. It's usually macabre. Doll like.
I've been doing this stretching for about 5 years and while I'm hitting 70, my facial skin is in remarkably good shape and tone. Anyone can do it if it's understood you can't just grab your face and start yanking it around without irreparably breaking those supporting fibers. A good place to start for me was to look at anatomical drawings of the face and know where muscle fibers are going, and what happens to skin on top. The support fibers will be perpendicular between the two. The easiest and least damaging test of what I'm saying is stretching the mouth to get rid of lip lines. My lips were pulling into my mouth (hey, I'm OLD) and wrinkles formed around my top lip as the orifice muscle shortened and pulled my lips underneath.. This makes perfect sense. Most sipping uses the top lip, strengthens and shortens the top muscle of that "O" muscle forming the mouth, and after 70 years, it wrinkles up the skin on top. But when I carefully pulled that top "O" muscle out, the skin on top laid flat again. From there I began to wonder if other muscles of the face work that way too, and it turns out most of them do.
Granted, no amount of manipulation is going to give me that angelic 10-year old face. It's unlikely at 70, I'm going to look 30 again. There's unavoidable things like sun damage, muscle wasting, connective tissue derangement, etc. that can never be reversed. But I could reduce crow's feet, chin flaps, gobble neck, sunken eyes, droopy eyebrows, hollow cheeks, droopy nose. What I needed to know and understand was what's underneath skin, the muscle action of those fibers and how it affects skin on top, and what action reverses it, and genuine respect for the inflexible dermal anchors from skin to muscle. Because once THOSE fibers are damaged - by stretching or surgery - they can't be reattached, so I knew any program from there would have to be about preserving them. You'd think results take daily routine, but happily no. It can be spot repair, since facial stretching relieves skin bunching within about 20 minutes. Get those stretches wrong, and it scared the crap out of me, looking like everything was made worse! Fortunately, even gross errors smoothed out in a day or two. When done right, there's a kind of initial skin 'shock' where it looks wrinkly worse, but after 20 minutes the skin lays back down correctly and fuller. The stretch done right feels like a sunburn, so there's even feedback when to stop going too far.
If you want to research this yourself, go for it. Just credit me so I get my 15 minutes of fame before I die. :D
Fascinating . Can you share a link on what the stretches are like?
Most do look weird. Cher nailed it ❤️

What do you think of Dr. Andrew Jacono’s work? 🤔
My smile is now wonky, I’m 70, in my late 60s a nerve/muscle on one side of my mouth “dropped”, it doesn’t work the same as the other side when I smile. Drs aren’t concerned, nor am I. It’s just age.
I do wonder if many of the overdone changes are due to clients insisting, going against the Drs advice.
My Facelift hurt like Hell, they dont send you home with 40 Oxys for nothing....just saying. Mine is 2 months old and I love it!
Same 😭😭 My lower face and neck lift was a very painful experience! I wouldn't do it again. I wasn't prepared for the pain, because I'm younger (early 40s) and the surgeon said it would be a super easy recovery, just like the doc in this video. I had only requested non-narcotic pain relief because I didn't think it would hurt. That first night was Hellish!! I called first thing in the morning to switch to vicoden and even that barely touched the pain that first week. I think surgeons need to be more honest. Maybe I'm just sensitive, but dude. That shit hurt so bad!!! I'm not even sure about my results because it's only been 3 weeks and I look a bit odd. Sigh.

Hi Dr M, I'm having a chin implant and buccal lipectomy next thursday. Do you think I should ask for the implant to be screwed in? I've seen Dr Joe Niamtu talk a lot about the fact that 99% of the complications/bone erosion/implant movement he sees is caused by implants not being secured to the bone so am wondering if its preferred
If the implant is placed correctly, it definitely does not need to be screwed in. I have never had a patient suffer from serious complications from a chin implant. It's an easy surgery, actually. I have a video on my channel about this procedure if you want to check it out!
