I’m a 22 year old guy, starting out my lawn mowing business and pressure washing is something I would like to add into my business as well. I go to a local community college and I’m trying to work as hard and make the American dream come true.

In the cities' defense, they likely do not have the funding and man power to get to these type of jobs, especially on a regular basis.
The city can't do all the yards...they usually tear it down and sell the property
Most (not all I assume) city workers do the bare minimum when it comes to the job. They'll stand around a pothole for a half hour trying to figure out what to do or until the supervisor sees them just standing around then they'll move.... Slowly.

The city hires out the job to LLC contractors. They are then paid by the footage. Usually, something like 40 cents. It's not worth the cost of fuel for the mower and this info was from 10+ years ago. If a preservation company or mowing service doesn't take the insanely below market contract, I won't ever get mowed.

I love how you complete sections rather than doing each task on the entire property. I realize you do that to keep the work in the camera view but I am thinking I am going to adopt this method. Seeing a section completed seems to give me the motivation to go on to the next!
I lived in a crummy old house for 10 years. I'd let the back yard grow all winter long then when it began to dry out I'd rent a big mower and take it all down. every year was different, one time there were a bunch of flowers growing, another year ivy took over, one year this incredible bunch of vines took over and it took forever to get that cleaned up. I parked an old rusty 1940 Dodge truck out there, it sure looked cool in all those weeds. you get some sort of odd satisfaction when you clean a yard up like that. these videos are great

I watched a “contractor” do the empty lots around where I live. They drive me crazy with the way they mow.. This relaxes me..

Listening to the shovel scraping the ground, blowers and mowing sounds is SOOOOOO Relaxing. Man you get a few beers or like enjoy a nice dessert, bowl of fruit while watching this and its like "aaaaahhhh". You dont even want to move. For this one I had a bag York Peppermint patties and some coffee. DON'T KNOCK THE HUSSLE!! I even have my aunt watching these to calm her nerves after watching the NEWS all day. I also slow the speed down to 0.75. Yall just dont understand. These vids are like deep Tibetan monk meditation or something.

Look at those perfectly manicured homes surrounding this one - why couldn't the neighbors just joined in together to clean up this yard for the sake/pleasure of the entire neighborhood? How sad.
I used to help all my elderly neighbors , and then I was ill. Now my lawn guy helps out

Why cannot the family sell or rent out these homes instead of letting them get this bad? Apparently, the housing crisis is not as bad as some may say. Renting can make a steady monthly income and selling it can give the family some instant money. I am sure the neighbors are glad something has been done. Hopefully, their property values will go up.
Believe it or not, there's a lot of upfront investment involved in renting a place like this out

Probably because there are 1000s of overgrown properties and lots that they have to maintain with limited workers and funds. Most aren't doing it for free.

All of these abandoned homes you could go to local hall of records and see what back taxes are then you purchase rent and include maintenance in your rental fees ,,, or contract with city to maintain until sold

I still think if the neighbors would come together and tag team a yard like this their homes would be much nicer. I know people have their own lives but 1 weekend 1-2 x a month would help their neighborhood and property values. I mean look how nice their yards are and not one neighbor cares enough about how it looks where they live

Some taxes are better than no taxes, the city should ashamed, these homes need to be lived in, or torn down so a new one can be built, if it’s in really bad shape. I live in California, in my town there are no houses sitting empty. As always, Spencer you did a great job.
