Today I was driving and saw a garage sale. I haven’t seen someone put out a garage sale in 15 years so I decided to stop as I found it interesting. The first thing I spotted was a pile of records and I bout them all, not really seeing who the artist were. One of them happened to be an autographed copy from Sophie Tucker signed 11/5/1965 🤗 I feel like I won the lottery haha! ♥️
SOPHIE DESERVES TO BE HONORED YES INDEED A GREAT WOMAN A GREAT PERSON A GREAT STYLIST SINGER WHO SANG HER HEART OUT WHEN EVER SHE DID SING LATER YEARS MORE TALKING THAN SINGING BUT STILL TOP NOTCH AND STILL A GREAT ENTERTAINER
It is so touching to see how Ed expresses his love and appreciation, (at the beginning and especially the end), for this Great American Icon. The message is timeless and so is her Huge Personality.
This lovely Lady reminds me of my Grandma ("Grams") who was a very strong woman...Beautiful too! Women, in the days of old, were strong if they wanted to be a survivor; they also had a real knack for pulling through adversity to become successful in hard times. If they only knew how some (ok, a lot) of women are today (including myself), they'd be rolling in their graves! To be honest - today I needed to hear this. Somehow it got on my "Rock-n-Roll" playlist that I listen to almost daily~ Weird!.....and no one has access to my laptop! I'm just sitting here playing "Sudoku", listening to my music, feeling down, maybe even a bit sorry for myself - lol < : - / For over 2 hrs. now, I've been trying to figure-out whether or not I should get-up & do some much needed housework, etc... Low & Behold the music stops, & I hear this great 'advice song' spoken by this kind, warm, assured voice, from someone I never heard of before ~ "Sophie Tucker"! Wow, if that wasn't a Nudge From Above or From An Ol' Grave Below The Ground, than I don't know what it was!!! Who ever this message of "Staying Strong, Active & Young" was from...I thank you! And I thank you "LimeVid" for uploading this super amazing Motivational by my "NEW" Mentor! ~ peace
As a 10 year old watching Ed Sullivan with my grannie I remember this as if it was yesterday..."grandma, is this singing? "It's here style of talking -singing".
Awesome advice from a lady long gone. What happened to women today? including myself..Our grandmothers were stronger than we are!!! time to get up and go out and neet with people.
As a very young child she had the same face! It is startling to see photos of her with her family because it's the same face as Sophie 30 years later. In that face is sheer determination!
Ed Sullivan gave a lot of black groups a chance to be on TV. I remember seeing The 5th Dimension on his show. It made a huge impression on me. They really loved singing.
All of her showbiz power is still there. What's lost on TV is her bawdiness, which was able to do in clubs, but not on TV. Check out her Mercury albums, which are delivered in the same style with more bawdy lyrics.
Although this is a really great turn for Sophie, it really doesn't give us the full effect of one of her live performances, as I've been told by real old-timers. She could be very very risque, very bawdy and very funny, then knock you over with a song.
I think it is very interesting and not insignificant that, were I wearing a blindfold and just listening to the speaking voice, I would think Sophie Tucker was a black woman. The cadence and nature of her speech are very...black. Interesting.
You must be about 21. If you'd been alive in the fifties or sixties, there wasn't a bigger variety show name on TV than Ed Sullivan. Kind of creepy that people are so naïve ... and missed some great talent.
Schiller150 Thanks! Close, I'm 31. Looked up more videos with him. To cure my naivety. It is funny how he kind of resembles Nixon movements and some other features like hair and head. Reminds me of going back in time and seeing these really old shows. Oh, and Sophie Tucker reminds me of what Churchill's sister would look like. Funny she mentions him in this bit. I was thinking about here similarities to him before she mentioned him.
@ThefightingCelt Ed Sullivan had Great Entertainers , The Beatles , Elvis Presley , The Jackson 5 , Cab Calloway , Buddy Holly , Bo Diddly , Sam & Dave , The Beach Boys , The Doors , Annette Funicello , The Rolling Stones , James Brown . 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
So I am about to turn 50 in just under a year. I am making a business of staying young. Thank you Miss Sophie Tucker ❤

Soph, you're blockin' the piano! Please, someone post that wonderful clip of Sophie Tucker with Jimmy Durante.
Wish I could get a print out of these words!
wow i thought she was going to sing at the end "your never to young or to old" would have been great.

What a lady.

Interesting!
Staying young
I would disagree. He had a wonderful twinkle in his eye. But he probably wouldn't be a host today.

The host looks like a brother or cousin of Nixon. Kind of creepy look alike.

Maybe 🤔 20
Ed Sullivan would never be allowed to host a tv show these days. The man was devoid of charisma and had the personality of a grouch.

Winston Churchill was alive
Yeah, as much as I try to appreciate this and the Jimmy Durante it just doesn't appeal to me. My parents love it.
I love her, learnt everything from her. The original red hot mama.
