Those where not JUST pro-gaming trophies. They where also athletic trophies. Sally wasn't using a Skill to dodge the attacks, she was using HER SKILLS to dodge them. The thing about the full Dive VR in the game with-in the Anime is that as long as your stats permit it, your RL skills translate to the game. So Sally still needs mad AGI to move fast, BUT because of her RL abilities she is even better at dodging. Basically, she learns the wind-up to every skill while fighting then starts to dodge the moment the wind-up starts. That is where the "Focus, Focus, Focus" chant is coming in.
The Chatlog at the end of the episodes is what I love the most about this anime makes it feel kinda real, the language and such they use just screams "Gamer"
Yeah except being hurt dosent stop her from actually progressing and becoming even more broken than she already was like her shield and armor broke twice thats a good upgrade to her gear stats. Having an exclusive gear like maple is makes her strong cause she dosent have to switch gears unless she needs too and her gear dosent permanently break either it just gets broken repair itself and and becomes stronger.
All the 1st to 10th placements in the first event got one gold medal at the start of the second event, so Maple does in fact have a gold medal at this time.
Episode 3 takes a lot from the light novels and mashes them together. The super speed skill is originally acquired via Sally soloing a race, and the haunted house was something else (I forget what). I imagine they were merged to establish the skill / character trait while keeping Maple and Sally together. Other players can’t copy Maple in large part due to a change in enemy AI. Maple got her first key skill by letting that rabbit attack her for an hour. After the patch, that same rabbit would have run away long before then. Basically, post-patch, the foundation of the Maple build would require surviving against something that’s actually strong against you for an hour. Their dates were taken from bonus segments (I’m not saying they’re a couple, but those were totally dates). Tangential: Light novel are most informative about details, manga is almost as informative and has the best comedy, and anime has the best action while being the least clear about how everything works.

Both Maple and Sally are in highschool. They look very young cause of the animation style. Also people tend to ship them a lot due to episode 3. The two secret areas Sally brought Maple to are basically meant for couples after all.
Maple literally turn into a game tester where dev making buff and nerf around her, also a walking disaster because she keep abusing the stuff she found in game (hard to be balanced).
The thing about playing an MMO is that starting early makes it the best. Sure you can usually catch up to a degree in most modern games, but like the fantasy of starting with everyone on level 1 and staying ahead of the curve. Me and my best buddy would always wait for that one MMO we would get at launch and stay ahead. Never found it.
The staying ahead part is a problem when you got a job and live in your own four walls. You just don't have as much free time as students, pupils, people without a job and people living at home with their parents and thus not having to do laundry, cooking and groceries themselves. And should you have children of your own... yeah... free time good bye.

Maple is too OP that the devs had to nerf her by adding Piercing Skills and limiting the uses of her Bound Abilities. In the novels, the way they got Super Speed is completely different, first you need at least 70+ agility, then you need to complete a fetch quest where you have to carry a bottle of holy water from a Magical Spring to an old man, the time limit is 1 hour. Without fighting it takes 30 minutes to get between them, but the actual quest has you fighting many powerful monsters to really slow you down such as high agility spiders, sleep beetles, and rarely a miniboss like enemy known as the wind dragonfly. Sally completed it in 52 minutes. The quest for healing the guy gives you a life ring which grants +100 HP when worn and was also part of the second event.
You say a game can't change your perception of time, but it actually can. There was a guy who lived in VR Minecraft for a bit. He had issues adjusting back to his normal sleep schedule.

I think it is not like the players experience 48 hours within 2 real life hours. It's just that an in-game day is reduced to one real time hour for the event. In normal gameplay, an in-game day is 2 hours. That would be what every MMO currently is doing.
The 1 HP skill is an advanced Shield User class exclusive skill. It has nothing to do with Maple's armor and shield breaking and repairing themselves. When they broke, Maple wasn't necessarily super low HP-wise.
Her armor and shield have two skills. The first one is absorption(only to her shield), and the second one is that once it's broken(both armor and shield), it can fully restore itself, once a day.
Actually her entire set, sword, shield and armor only has 2 properties, that is getting stronger each time it gets destroyed and repair itself. That set also have skill slots which can be equipped by any player skill or passive. Maple equipped the 'devourer' passive into her shield to eat anything and convert to mp which she can then use to activate the skills in her sword which are hydra and paralyzing shout. If am not mistaken, she still has a skill slot available in her armor.

Every time it is destroyed it regenerates stronger...she actually uses that effect in latter fights. The chance to survive with 1HP thing is just a Normal Great Shielder skill...one of the few normal skills she has.

Yes, the two are in high school so they are probably 16 or 17. However, especially Maple often acts rather carefree and light-hearted, something that's usually more associated with kids than with nearly grown-up highschool girls.
Technically, "cold" is a sensation, but it's caused by heat leaving the body. They can simulate other sensations, but not ones like that. Maybe the gear can give you a burning feeling, but it cannot rob you of body heat.
These were definitely a couple of Pokémon episodes. Xerneas in one, and Articuno in the next. The girls even had a battle with their pets, I mean “partners”.
It's a "full-dive" game. It's basically piped directly into their brains while they're unconscious. That's how they feel cold and have time acceleration.
To be honest, a truely balanced game is boring. A game with just one OP stats setting is also boring. BOFURI is balamced, but not in a way that all characters are equal in strength and defence, no matter how the stats look like. It is more like that you get above average bonusses from specializing in one attribute. Maple is obviously the vitality specialist, but that comes with slowness and weak physical attacks. Maple compensates this with Boss-Monster specials. Sally is allmost a dexterity specialist with an additional dexterity boost from her real life skills. The other speciallists that are shown later have all their weaknesses. So the game is almost perfectly ballanced. (But I guess, Maples Boss-Monster special attacks scale with vitality. That's really broken) BOFURI favors teamwork. Extreme specialists playing together get way more out of that than a group of characters that are all skilled for solo play. Just think about Sally carrying around Maple 😁
I enjoyed reading the manga on this because it was a bit of a 'Blackguard' (evil Paladin) build to start. High defense to draw out a fight and immunity to poison pairs well with an area poison-based damage over time and debilitating effects. Creates a very "defeat is inevitable" vibe.
About time dilation in full dive immersive vr it's a common trope that the Devs can make it so that while your mind is experiencing weeks or months in real time only a few hours actually pass. It's all about the perception of it, it's based on the fact that a coma patient could dream a whole or multiple lifetimes but only be a sleep for a short period. The human mind is (according to recent research) a quantum computer and has access to quantum phenomena. So yes it is entirely possible (and the brain can handle it) for you to experience longer in game than in real life.
This show was def a surprise, thought it was a generic gamer/fantasy anime, but found the characters pretty likeable and the animation pretty good quality.

Probably because of the damage multiplier. Against trash mobs I'm sure its used all the time, against bosses? Good way to end up a dead grate shielder. Unless, of course, you are Maple.
Every other gamer would not use cover move to keep up with their allies, they would just run with them. Maple is using cover move to keep up with Sally even though she technically dont have to cover Sally, she is using it for the teleport hence like a movement ability.

You really need to read either the novel or the explanation for the episodes... Cause the anime does not explain at all how all of Maple and Sally's habilites work... The novel explains them to detail and they keep changing and changing when they get more as well as when the admins nerf her...
it's not speed up time for the brain, it's actually slowing time for the brain 2 hours irl = 72 hours in game (time perception can be altered because gravity affects time)
When you gameplay is so OP you specifically get nerfed. Also I love that Maple isn't a gamer so she doesn't think like a gamer but outside the traditional box, and the game allows it.
Correction, our brain can actually trick us to thinking that a lot of time passed in just a few hours. We actually experience this when we're dreaming. So while we do not have the means to do that yet tech-wise, it's in the realm of possibility and by the time we are advance enough to have these VRMMO at this level, there's a huge possibility that that would be fully explored and can be utilized.
3 and 4 are great at setting up the rest of the characters that you need to know with only 1 other person to come as an important character. kinda dont want to spoil so trying not to say much.
The brain andles high speed reality every night.... you can have a dream that i dream lasts for months yet in reality only minutes have passes... so in theory, just theory right now, you possibly could have high speed in game time with such a direct brain to game interface as a 'full dive' system.
even if there is no nerf, it's still impossible for other player to copy her build because: 1. you need to do exacly like what Mapple does since she start playing, 2. her armor (because it's only one in entire game), 3. the most thing that make it impossible to copy is you are not Mapple, LOL
A company did produce a device you could add to your VR headset the would generate smells unfortunately it used the same technology as is used in vaping so they ran into trouble with regulators I don't know what happened with the technology but it supposedly worked Her armour set has the special feature that when broken it regenerates stronger Maple has the special ability once a day if she take damage that would kill her she is instead reduced to 1 HP

I enjoyed this show a lot when it as airing, it was fun to watch even though it was your typical OP protag anime series due it having the CGDCT to it and the actual comedy blended in every episode.
the gm keep trying to nerf her till they give up and just let her be XD 10:35 iirc in this part of the LN they encounter doppleganger and have to fight their copy. and Sally propose an interesting way that they should fight the other self (because she want to try to fight Maple) so Maple vs Sally dopple, and Sally vs Maple dopple. from then they know that at this point Sally is actually stronger than Maple in a fight.
If you want MMO which is free and can be revarding try Guild wars 2, its older but verry good game, only expansions are to buy, othervise you can LVL to max without problem, there are no quests like in other MMO but events which are repeating and you get nice rewards from them, I hit Max LVL on character to less than week so its really quick, believe me when you hit LVL 80 thats where game really starts and one advice watch some videos about which class is better for start, I make myself hard time cause make bad choise on first character

Teenagers are typically not considered loli's unless they have the body type of looking like a little kid. In Bofuri's case they aren't loli's since they look like typical highschoolers. These days it seems people associate all "flat girls" as loli's, which is inherently incorrect.
The two girls that Maple met at the beginning, the one with pink and the one with black/green hair, they fit the loli archetype much better. Maple and Sally will see them again in a later episode, but in order not to spoil I won't tell any more details.

MMOs are not worth anyone's time. Internet guides play the game for you most of the time, and everyone is the same with different skins to make balancing easier. (I am very jaded toward MMOs after 15 years of playing them.) These "full dive" VR MMOs in anime would be great if they also changed how you perceive time and playing for 1 hour could feel like a day in game for example. All kinds of mental health issues to work around with that though. And this anime's game mechanics would never fly IRL. People are jealous and petty and if they can't have your over powered and/or cool looking ability they will cry on the forums till they get it, or just quit and a good chunk of your player base wont stick around. I like this anime though because it is dumb fun.
If the technology existed that allowed you spend an hour in VR and it feels like a day, then corporations would definitely use it to make you work 1000 hour weeks

Smell and taste is present in the VRMMO of BOFURI. It's sad that seldom anybody notices. I think it's the weakest character detail of Sally that she is scared of ghosts. Think about this: If you were playing a game, where every time you find a cool new combo or ability that gives you a good advantage, the devs immediately patch it and re-set your character so you can't do that anymore. Would you really want to keep playing a game that the DEVS are basically cyber-bulling you? If they want to prevent other players from using the build, that's fine, but at least have the decency to allow the player that discovered it to keep it. Otherwise you'd just be throwing money away on a game that you literally can't play any way other than the way someone else tells you to. Sucks.

It's a "full-dive" game. It's basically piped directly into their brains while they're unconscious. That's how they feel cold and have time acceleration.
This, however, happens when the game is not finished and is released too quickly. We get a super cute fortress girl who gives the admins a headache!
To be honest, a truely balanced game is boring. A game with just one OP stats setting is also boring.
BOFURI is balamced, but not in a way that all characters are equal in strength and defence, no matter how the stats look like. It is more like that you get above average bonusses from specializing in one attribute. Maple is obviously the vitality specialist, but that comes with slowness and weak physical attacks. Maple compensates this with Boss-Monster specials. Sally is allmost a dexterity specialist with an additional dexterity boost from her real life skills. The other speciallists that are shown later have all their weaknesses. So the game is almost perfectly ballanced. (But I guess, Maples Boss-Monster special attacks scale with vitality. That's really broken)
BOFURI favors teamwork. Extreme specialists playing together get way more out of that than a group of characters that are all skilled for solo play. Just think about Sally carrying around Maple 😁
I enjoyed reading the manga on this because it was a bit of a 'Blackguard' (evil Paladin) build to start. High defense to draw out a fight and immunity to poison pairs well with an area poison-based damage over time and debilitating effects.
Creates a very "defeat is inevitable" vibe.

About time dilation in full dive immersive vr it's a common trope that the Devs can make it so that while your mind is experiencing weeks or months in real time only a few hours actually pass. It's all about the perception of it, it's based on the fact that a coma patient could dream a whole or multiple lifetimes but only be a sleep for a short period. The human mind is (according to recent research) a quantum computer and has access to quantum phenomena. So yes it is entirely possible (and the brain can handle it) for you to experience longer in game than in real life.
This show was def a surprise, thought it was a generic gamer/fantasy anime, but found the characters pretty likeable and the animation pretty good quality.

Probably because of the damage multiplier. Against trash mobs I'm sure its used all the time, against bosses? Good way to end up a dead grate shielder. Unless, of course, you are Maple.
Every other gamer would not use cover move to keep up with their allies, they would just run with them.
Maple is using cover move to keep up with Sally even though she technically dont have to cover Sally, she is using it for the teleport hence like a movement ability.
Most players probably have a high enough speed that they don't need to.

You really need to read either the novel or the explanation for the episodes... Cause the anime does not explain at all how all of Maple and Sally's habilites work... The novel explains them to detail and they keep changing and changing when they get more as well as when the admins nerf her...
Maples armor has the ability if it is broken it repairs itself and gets stronger from the reforging, just wait it gets better and better

When you gameplay is so OP you specifically get nerfed. Also I love that Maple isn't a gamer so she doesn't think like a gamer but outside the traditional box, and the game allows it.

Correction, our brain can actually trick us to thinking that a lot of time passed in just a few hours. We actually experience this when we're dreaming. So while we do not have the means to do that yet tech-wise, it's in the realm of possibility and by the time we are advance enough to have these VRMMO at this level, there's a huge possibility that that would be fully explored and can be utilized.
3 and 4 are great at setting up the rest of the characters that you need to know with only 1 other person to come as an important character. kinda dont want to spoil so trying not to say much.
The brain andles high speed reality every night.... you can have a dream that i dream lasts for months yet in reality only minutes have passes... so in theory, just theory right now, you possibly could have high speed in game time with such a direct brain to game interface as a 'full dive' system.

1. you need to do exacly like what Mapple does since she start playing,
2. her armor (because it's only one in entire game),

A company did produce a device you could add to your VR headset the would generate smells unfortunately it used the same technology as is used in vaping so they ran into trouble with regulators I don't know what happened with the technology but it supposedly worked
Her armour set has the special feature that when broken it regenerates stronger
Maple has the special ability once a day if she take damage that would kill her she is instead reduced to 1 HP

10:35 iirc in this part of the LN they encounter doppleganger and have to fight their copy. and Sally propose an interesting way that they should fight the other self (because she want to try to fight Maple) so Maple vs Sally dopple, and Sally vs Maple dopple. from then they know that at this point Sally is actually stronger than Maple in a fight.

If you want MMO which is free and can be revarding try Guild wars 2, its older but verry good game, only expansions are to buy, othervise you can LVL to max without problem, there are no quests like in other MMO but events which are repeating and you get nice rewards from them, I hit Max LVL on character to less than week so its really quick, believe me when you hit LVL 80 thats where game really starts and one advice watch some videos about which class is better for start, I make myself hard time cause make bad choise on first character

so I think after like the first few days she was around and was destroying the game the devs added in piercing damage that bypassed her high def though I find it dumb that def in it is vit then they nurfed her devvower power that turns annnything she touches into mp so she gets like only a few uses a day along with changing how mobs work so if they cant win they try to run instead cause like her first few skills she got made her rather overpowerd

Teenagers are typically not considered loli's unless they have the body type of looking like a little kid. In Bofuri's case they aren't loli's since they look like typical highschoolers. These days it seems people associate all "flat girls" as loli's, which is inherently incorrect.
The two girls that Maple met at the beginning, the one with pink and the one with black/green hair, they fit the loli archetype much better. Maple and Sally will see them again in a later episode, but in order not to spoil I won't tell any more details.

MMOs are not worth anyone's time. Internet guides play the game for you most of the time, and everyone is the same with different skins to make balancing easier. (I am very jaded toward MMOs after 15 years of playing them.)
These "full dive" VR MMOs in anime would be great if they also changed how you perceive time and playing for 1 hour could feel like a day in game for example. All kinds of mental health issues to work around with that though.
And this anime's game mechanics would never fly IRL. People are jealous and petty and if they can't have your over powered and/or cool looking ability they will cry on the forums till they get it, or just quit and a good chunk of your player base wont stick around.
I like this anime though because it is dumb fun.
If the technology existed that allowed you spend an hour in VR and it feels like a day, then corporations would definitely use it to make you work 1000 hour weeks

Think about this: If you were playing a game, where every time you find a cool new combo or ability that gives you a good advantage, the devs immediately patch it and re-set your character so you can't do that anymore. Would you really want to keep playing a game that the DEVS are basically cyber-bulling you? If they want to prevent other players from using the build, that's fine, but at least have the decency to allow the player that discovered it to keep it. Otherwise you'd just be throwing money away on a game that you literally can't play any way other than the way someone else tells you to. Sucks.
