Awesome video! I know puppyhood can be challenging, but remember to enjoy this age! I have an 11 year old lab, and I would gladly go back to the puppy days if that meant I could keep her with me longer❤

The next 5 weeks is where the growing really takes off. My Golden finally stopped wanting to jump on people when he turned 3. He wouldn't jump on people per se', but he sure wanted to.

We have a 16 week old spaniel….we are going thru the exact same thing with our pup. He listens when we train and does very well but when we are out and about…nope, his ears turn off. Leave-it is his most difficult command, he hates it and sometimes and gets sassy and barks at us! Puppies are cute but a HUGE time commitment. Not sure if I’m going to do a puppy again….but they are fun and can be very rewarding.

    • @GraceDeGrace
      @GraceDeGrace  28 днів тому +1

Yup! Oreo still has trouble listening outside even years later but they still make great additions to our lives. Good luck with your little spaniel!!

She's doing terrific! Potty training is more consistent ~6mos, and she may have some accidents just after being spayed. When she goes outside, say 'Potty' ... if she goes, give her 3 pieces of kibble one at a time. If she doesn't go, then no kibble. Jump training is excellent ... Sit to greet is a safe thing to do.
At about 4 mos when she loses her baby teeth, she may start teething and chewing things again, b/c her mouth hurts. You can try going her a damp washcloth frozen, to chew on, but monitor closely for chewing and trying to swallow it.

Our golden is one year old. Grace has similar days to Daisy. Two steps forward and one step back. Sometimes she gets it and sometimes she has amnesia. Somedays she is the best golden in world and somedays she is a menace to society. We love her dearly. Good luck with your Daisy.

Daisy is Golden Retriever, a gundog by breed. It depends a little on whether she is from a working line or not, but in principle you can expect her to grow to acquire the intellectual capabilities of a 4 to 5 year old child. Obviously it’ll differ in various aspects, but generally she’ll be able to comprehend things that a 4 year old can and apply her comprehension also. Dogs like her have been shown to be capable of deductive reasoning from what they experience from the world around them. Like 4 or 5 year old children they can turn those capabilities to various purposes, “good” and “bad”. Much depends on training and occupying her busy little brains. Good luck and enjoy!

@@GraceDeGrace just remember: she will be a 4-yo with no common sense as you understand it. She’ll do the most awful, stupid things. However, she’ll also be capable of things that’ll astound you. It all hinges to a large extent on the training you do with her. You need to be predictable for her:
      - Be sparing with your commands. She is a gundog, not a circusdog, nor a robot. Give commands when needed, but not for the fun of it.
      - But when you issue a command, insist it is executed. Never, ever think that it’ll be alright. No. “Come here” means come here, right here and no two ways about it. “Leave it” means leave it, right now. Etc.
      - Always be kind when she obeys, even if you had to tell her 100 times. When she comes to you, she is always a GOOD GIRL! You are the sun of her universe, her refuge when everything around her goes to hell.
      - The basic commands are:
      Come here. (Obvious)
      Sit. (Obvious)
Stay. (She needs to stay sitting down whilst you walk away, even out of sight. Obviously train this in small steps.)
Heel. (She needs to walk with her head next to your left knee, both on and off the lead. When on the lead without pulling.)
You can enhance her intellect by challenging her, in small steps, e.g. by asking her to search for hidden toys. Reward her with tidbits for a success.
Enroll her and yourself for gundog training, even if you don’t hunt. It’ll strengthen your bond. Be prepared for the fact that you are 80% of the problem in her training.
