I got my Collie puppy when he was nine weeks old and in the beginning, it was a challenge. He chewed on everything, even the wee wee pads! He was full of energy and curious about everything. But we loved him. He had a great personality and temperament. He didn’t really settle down until he was two years old! For eleven years he brought us nothing but pleasure. Cherish the moments with your puppy. They grow up so quickly and provide great memories.
I got my Golden puppy when he was 10 weeks. He used the puppy pads to pee and never pooped in the house ever. He was dog door trained by 14 weeks and completely housed trained at about 17 weeks. Never once had an accident after that. He just turned 3. He is the most fun dog I have ever owned. He just LOVES to be with me. Every morning he climbs on the bed and waits for me to wake up. His dog clock is perfect. He never wakes me up early. He is SO smart! My other two dogs love to play with him. I suggest taking a lot of pictures because they grow so fast.
I found that using wee pads prolongs the house training cuz what ur teaching them is to pee/poop in the house. I found just putting them outside as much as possible (especially after meals or snacks) is the fastest and easiest even as exhausting as it can be. lol After the second puppy, a doggy door definitely saves a lot of accidents, I agree. 😁
I potty trained my retriever pup in 3 days.. just keep her in ur vision.. when the nose goes down u need to get them outside.. after 2-3 days they will walk to the door and indicate they need to go out and pee.. job done.. U still need to notice them walking to the door thouhg or else they are still doing it behind the couch and they dont learn then. Letting go of stuff is also very important.. and staying.. more important then paw..
@@larsvegas1505 every dog is different. My first dog was potty trained in three days, but using the same method, Daisy is taking longer and that’s okay!!
Daisy is absolutely adorable! Golden Retriever puppies are sooooo cute!!!! They look so harmless in video, but man, in real life, it's SO MUCH WORK to raise a puppy. I think for two months, I didn't get enough sleep as we have to wake up early to take her out. Crate training is another huge challenge. But it's worth it now that my golden is all potty trained. Good job in training and caring for Daisy!
Definitely much harder than it looks but they are so adorable, you’re right you can’t stay mad at them!! The first few weeks are definitely the hardest but now that she’s so much bigger I miss her being a little ball of fuzz 😭😭
I would only have a golden. That's just me. I've had three goldens in my life and it was worth it every time. It kills me when they die. I'm 69 but I think I got one more golden to go.
I had a Daisy once she was took a tuxedo coloring. She was my baby having a puppy is the best.!! I love it💋💜 I love it when they sleep on your chest or on your lap and cuddle with you I love puppies.😍

Thank you so much ! I was worry cause my golden pup 3 month chew on my hand and try to play with our hand and clothes so much, he did learn and reduce the ammount of shark bite but I was scared ! But I see its totaly normal behavior :D Thank
Getting a puppy is incredibly stressful. As a first time dog owner I was stressed out of my mind. I also set a schedule for play, training, food, potty breaks etc that was ludicrous... mow looking back, the biggest lesson I learnt was to enjoy the puppy, set clear guidelines, train, train, train but relax too! And train more than you think you can! As for the rest, if there is an puppy puddle on the floor occasionally, so be it!
@@apollonia6656 she’s just all grown up now is all!!!! Still around sorry, for my phrasing!! She was so curious and innocent at that age, now she’s learned so much and is a super smart and perceptive dog

I’m about to get a golden retriever and I was looking for this video and thank you for telling me everything to keep in mind when getting a dog and Daisy is very cute ❤
When our family had puppies, the biggest problem we had was teaching them not to eat everthibg they saw. Yes, you do have to take them outside frequently like every two hours to ppotty train them. It helps establish a routine, and prevents accidents in the house.
Well done. Pretty accurate. Definitely a huge time sink…but hard to quantify how much love they (pups/dogs) give back over time. IMO, well worth it for anybody that truly loves animals…Oh, and dogs are pack animals. It;s in their DNA…so have another dog, or two, in the family will help the older dog, as well.
I have a 10 month old golden retriever. Love her so much but never getting a puppy again! Sooo exhausting! I am so glad we are past the potty training phase.
We got our Golden at 4 months, it took about 1.5 months at that age to get her accustomed to our routine, potty trained, no chewing but on toys and inappropriate barking. Now at 6 months old she is doing really good, we still limit her areas in our home though. Never left alone in house free or in backyard alone very long. She will do something naughty if she has the chance.
Always take her out after nap time. My cocker spaniel was fully trained in a couple of weeks. She would scratch at the door to let us know she had to go out.
Also consider time, patience and money before owning a pet! It’s expensive to own a pet, vet bills, food, training and boarding if you have to go on a trip! Consider and think hard before getting a pet! It’s a commitment and they are family!
Dogs are very tolerant of new puppies. Some check the puppy out and then proceed to ignore them as much as possible, though puppies usually make that pretty difficult. Then there is the dog that falls head over heels in love with the puppy. Our female golden, Zoey, fell in love with our baby pug mix. She raised that puppy like it was her own. The puglet is now 3 and they are inseparable. 🥰
i just returned my adopted puppy. I have a 2.5 yr old border/GSP, she kinda snapped at the puppy the first hour, so i kept them separated…plus the puppy’s kennel cough was getting worse, i didn’t want my older dog to get sick. so she was in a giant crate inside and outside with a wire play area attached… but i realized she wasn’t the breed they said, she was going to be much larger, and i realized i’d made a decision based on emotion. i just took her a few hours ago, i can’t stop crying…i miss her, but i know at my age i’m not able to do all the puppy training again. i thought i could, but i immediately missed coffee and sitting in my garden, i just came through the puppy training with the 2.5 yr old, plus last spring and summer i spent so much time moving my parents, packing up their house getting rid of things and finally selling the house. i had no business bringing in a puppy. last night i knew we were taking her back, i slept with her in the play pen, she cuddled with me all night, but that’s not realistic either… my husband leaves town tomorrow for a week and i knew i couldn’t do it and be the owner she deserves…at least she got out of the shelter, spent time in the sunshine, had fun playing toys…i know at 3 months old she’s probably already forgot about me… i’m crushed, but feel it was the right thing to do for her.
That is heartbreaking. I’m so sorry you had to go through this. It’s good at least that you realized early on so both you and puppy can readjust quickly. Again so sorry you had to through this
@@GraceDeGrace thanks for your kind thoughts…i always put the animal first, except in my decision to adopt…that was me wanting to be younger and able to do this….i spent the day in the garden, back to my life….i will not check out the shelter website,i want to rescue all of them ! 🫤
@@Kate98755 it’s so tough sometimes being an animal lover. I am just starting to build a garden myself. I wish to enjoy it sometime in the future with coffee like you 💕
She's doing great. Always a bit nervous about cats scratching a puppy's eyes if provoked. Have you got an old playpen to drop the puppy in when you need a break?
Our cat grew up with Oreo so she's learned not take her claws out. Still when Cat and puppy are together, they are closely supervised. When we need a break, we put puppy in her harness and attach it to a long leash so she still has space to roam and play while being confined. When my first dog was a puppy, he would always find a way out of play pens so a leash worked better.
I'm on my second purebred Golden and both have been perfect companions. There are two things I did that I think make a crucial difference. First is crate training and I see you have a puppy crate. You really should *always* put the puppy in her crate when you aren't able to watch her 100% of her movements. Sleeping as a baby hould always be in-crate. Her life for now should consist of you carrying her outside from her crate directly to outside to do her business, and then immediately inside to play or train or eat or drink (now that bladder and bowel are empty; no mistakes). Puppy feet do not touch inside floors until bladder & bowels are empty. And as she gets tired and starts looking for places to see and mischief to get in, back to the crate. The second thing was to always put my pup on his leash and clip the people-end of the leash to my belt, so the pup can't sneak out of my eyesight, so I learned every nuance of his movements and nonverbal communication; set up for success. Don't know if this made a difference, but no playing with anything that belongs to others (shoes, socks etc). And sometimes random snacks, like rawhide or pigs ears that are essentially food requiring work to consume/destroy. I feel the dog learns that what I give belongs to the pup and can be used as the pup desires (can be destroyed) and they learn that everything else is not theirs and not a toy (no destruction). And as a result, my adult Golden can be left home alone in a messy house and upon return, everything is as I left it. No messes, no potty mistakes, very rarely any puke, since eating foreign objects has been not-learned.
These things do make a difference and thank you for the tips, hopefully other people see this. I did this with my first dog as a puppy and I do it with Daisy as well. In the update video coming out tomorrow, you’ll see many of the clips she’s on leash so that she can be watched
I should mentioned I employ all of these things to some degree and many people have complimented Oreo for his good behavior and Daisy of course is still learning. I do think all of these are important to train in your dogs
Better prep before bringing puppy home. *** Get chew toys before puppy arrives. Didn’t breeder potty train their pups? One new dog is enough but already having 2 other pets just tripled your work. Read a puppy care book before you bring one into your home everyone ! Get a good handle on all the work you must do daily.
I agree! I got my other dog as a puppy almost four years ago, so I knew what we were getting into. She was only 8 weeks old when we got her, most puppies aren’t completely potty trained that young. Yes, there is a lot of daily work but things can go well with proper planning! Great advice, thank you!
Daisy is beautiful. I hope you won't mind a suggestion, please rethink feeding kibble. If you have time there are some excellent vids on UA-cam regarding the many benefits of home cooking for your dog, especially Goldens who are often susceptible to illnesses. Some great info is available by Dr Judy Morgan, a holistic vet, and Dr Andrew Jones, also a vet. Also a great book to read is called Puppy Brain, by a woman named Kerry Nichols, who is a breeder of Goldens. The above vets also have some great info on how to not over vaccinate your puppy, and the benefits of not spaying her too early. You want Daisy to have the best chance for a healthy life!
Daisy never had an accident in the crate as long as it was small enough. When she had more space she would use the bathroom in it. At night, we crated her and I took her out every two hours at first and as she got older, she could go longer in between breaks. I think it was around 4 months old that Daisy could hold it throughout the whole night and once she could consistently do that, we stopped crating her at night
Yes! It really helps to get a crate or a play pen to keep your puppy in until they’re potty trained. If they get too much freedom too soon, the puppy will likely sneak off and have accidents or chew something they’re not supposed to! Keeping them in their own confined space makes honestly every element of early puppyhood much easier and safer too (they try to eat everything at first even if it’s not good for them) and as they get older they get more and more space as they learn
Stressed, exhausted, furniture damaged... and the puppy's score is still 10/10. LOL
🤣 Just look at that little face!

I wish to enjoy it sometime in the future with coffee like you 💕
Great video❤❤❤
Thank you!
Daisy out here living her best life y'all. Don't judge.😂😂😂
your voice is so soothing
Thank you!
1:35 aw her little head 😭 my dog does that too sometimes 😅 btw her name is Ellie
I love that name!! 😂
My older dog (8yrs) is running from my GR puppy. I hope she gets warmed up to him
Slow and steady, I’m sure she’ll warm up!
Those first couple of weeks are RUFF, but soon you’ll be wishing Daisy was a baby again.
So true 😩
Omgosh, she’s adorbs!
Thank you!
Puppies are so darn rotten, but they are also so darn cute!!!
They can be a bit of a nightmare at first but ugh you just can’t stay mad at them, they’re too cute!!
🐯🐾 🐯🐾 🐯🐾 🐯🐾 cute❤
Thank you
10/10. My puppy chewed the couch. Popped it the house.
🤣 they’re the best though
YOU ARE ALL AWESOME! ❤❤❤
Thank you!

Suggestions always welcome!
Hey Oreo, Daisy and Ellie 🙋❤
They say hello 😳
Fun video
Thank you!
this is so cute
Thank you!
My golden chewed a hole in the wall at around 3 months. So yes, be ready for some damage. I also rate the experience 10/10 would do again.
Haha yeah they’re worth it
Very cute video
Thank you!! Glad you liked it!
Daisy is too cute
Daisy never had an accident in the crate as long as it was small enough. When she had more space she would use the bathroom in it. At night, we crated her and I took her out every two hours at first and as she got older, she could go longer in between breaks. I think it was around 4 months old that Daisy could hold it throughout the whole night and once she could consistently do that, we stopped crating her at night
Me and my family have been thinking about getting one. Do you have any tips?
Cheer up love
"Then there's Ellie."
"Am I?... 👀"
I miss the puppy rat tail 🥲 mine's turning 2 in 2 weeks...
Aww 😂
