    This video made me realize, I actually have a strong sense of style and a strong sense of taste. My issue is that 95% of the time, I'm too lazy to accessorize my outfits. I really only use my sense of style when I have an event to go to. On work days, I'd rather sleep longer than put on some jewelry and pick out an exceptionally suited pair of shoes for my outfit.

    That Kibbe thing is so full of euphemisms that I honestly can't understand a thing, same goes with essences. I think as a part of being human we feel desperate to fit in a category, just like the thousands of "personality" quizzes we can find all over the internet, and which were in magazines in olden times. Hell, it's been there since someone decided the zodiac signs are a thing that actually describes and determines you. I've been diagnosed with several mental issues and a handful of superpowers, so I'm done. That's all I'm willing to know about myself 😂

      I'd say about 70% of people don't really fit into a kibbe type.

      @j-n-y 2 місяці тому +7

      most people who are into these kinds of things are women. and the people behind the things earns TONS of money on women, who are often insecure, and just wanna fit in. take Kibbe for example. SO EXPENSIVE to go and see him, and people aren't allowed to mention or talk about how much it costs.

    I came here to comment on specific things you said but as I kept watching I kept liking every single point you made lol. So I’ll just say great video and insights! Analysis paralysis is a real problem for me and I love your content because you actually go deeper into why styles work and keeping those higher level concepts in mind instead of specific types or seasons.

    I like the point you make about how you should understand the "why" behind a particular Kibbe/Kitchener/Color identification and not just take it as a given. Yes, our head is not a Christmas ornament to be used on special occasions; it needs to be used all the time! But that said, the downside of this approach is that asking a lot of questions and trying to understand the "why" is what leads us into a confusing rabbit hole (often lasting months or more!) The confusion is so intense that people who have spent a great deal of time and effort on studying this topic AND doing self-analysis and self-reflection, will still end up asking for "THE ANSWER" by booking a consultation. Of course, they are looking for confirmation of what they have arrived at after going through a long process, so it's a little different from simply looking for THE ANSWER, . . . but what if the consultation tells them something different? (Oh man! Here we go again.)

    Great video, as always! I love how you've used the B roll footage of yourself throughout, rather than just the stock video. It feels so much more classy, cohesive, organic and authentic to you, as opposed to the library footage, which is more generic, jarring, and distracting (and honestly, sometimes a little cheesy).
    Your videos are always a refined, unique, valuable, and classy take on well-trodden subjects, and this new type of footage really reflects that.
    Congrats on the new branding and direction for the channel; I'm sure you're going to go from strength to strength (and hopefully get the millions of subscribers you deserve).

    Awesome video! So many right on points about personal style. My personal style needs to match my lifestyle. Sometimes I feel some people will never find their “personal style” just because they don’t want to commit. Yes they want to be visible but not the much and yes they want to wear something nice but what if they are overdressed??? Like if you can’t commit don’t bother change come with being a little uncomfortable before becoming natural

    Thank you, it was very useful for me. Style is pure psychology, social psychology, some taken from Jung archetypes, some from experience, from present trends and future aspirations. While color and figure types are just help to express it better, not to fail.

    Congratulations on the new branding! I always find your videos very informative. Although when it comes to this one I feel like I can offer a bit of a different perspective.
    I’m someone who has a pretty interesting and unique personal style. I used to work in retail in college and I’ve always been into fashion - the reason I’m here is because although I’m very good at looking my best I still get bored 😂 And especially when my personal style tends to be very out there, it gets harder and harder to impress yourself and come up with outfits that surprise. So I watch these videos as means of finding tips and info that I might not be aware of. Planning crazy outfits in my own head is my favourite past time. It’s been quite interesting to learn why I naturally gravitate towards certain colour and lines for example.
    But what do you do when you break all the rules? It’s hard to reinvent things all the time. I feel like your videos also gave me permission to wear the same skirt the entire summer because it literally looks killer so why would I not 😂 so you know, there are all these people out there that wear crazy stuff but although in fashion the possibilities are endless, there are very few (or no one) who can always feel like their outfit is the most unique/ interesting one.

    Love your channel and how you highlight useful aspects from different style systems, and cut through the noise. I'm still confused about my Kibbe type, but I think you help me realize that it doesn't matter. I just know that open necklines look great on me and that makes me feel good.
    Also a sound reminder to realize that I don't actually want to put money and effort into looking like a fashionista, and I'm happy to wear relatively simple outfits (which to me, have details that I like such as a nice cut or comfortable fabric). Anything that I need to fiddle with just gets left unworn in my closet.

    Once more, fabulous video topic, very well explained, incredibly valid points.
    This also covers many things I refered to in one of my journal entries I made this week. (It's a journal which I basically use to sort my thoughts when they are quite cluttered.)
    I like to remember how much hair changes the overall impact of your style. It's like that outfit you showed with the light blazer, the light washed denim and the slippers. It is a combination of relaxed and classic polished, your wavy hair that you wear down is something that ties in with the look, it adds that relaxed feel the slippers repeat and the denim carries along with it as well. And I think this is why it works so well (aside from the fact that it just goes nicely with your overall physical qualities). But if you had worn your hair sleek and in a tidy updo, this would have created a VERY different look.
    I personally wear my hair short and in a very specific, textured cut. And I noticed it does indeed spice up my relatively simple and rather "plain" outfits. It's like an accessory that I don't have to think about too much, because it's just always there.
    During the time I attempted to grow my hair out, I felt boring and even lazy. It just didn't click with me and my vibe. And even though I might have predominant Classic essence, my facial expressions and body language give off Gamine which I just noticed because I got filmed without noticing it. My facial expressions are giving off a VERY animated feel and don't go with a very polished hairstyle. So that's definitely something a regular photo would not capture and that part of me would go missing in a standard analysis. In person, when a consultant would talk to me and see me "in action" it would probably be very obvious though. And I think that is why the short hair adds to my style in a way that just works for me. And I am glad I saw that video clip of me and was able to notice this detail about myself. It cleared up a lot of mental fog for me.
    Aside from this, the way you approach trends is similar to how I do it. I usually look up what's on trend every now and then, mindfully and intentionally, so I don't get bombarded with too much at once. And I saw several trends for fall that already are found within my wardrobe but in my way. The athleasure trend for example: I got a nice selection of workout gear but none of them look like the ones that were shown in the images in your video. I would not wear the garments from these images, they are not up my alley at all. But my own? They are fitted, have contrasting details and go very well with my regular clothes too. I am into runners and bikers jackets, yoga tops and sports bras that look more like a crop top. Mock neck, sleeveless vests, tight fitting jackets with raglan sleeves etc. those shapes suit me very well and I also combine them with tailored pants, blazers, jeans, heels and other garments that feel a bit more polished, instead of going for an all athleasure outfit. I love clothes like that because to me they are very versatile. And that's something that does indeed partially define my personal style. I'm very much into mixing things that usually don't "belong together" but visually create a very cohesive image. And while I used to love the vision of my style being very artistic and even could be considered a piece of art itself, I don't wanna stress about that anymore. Maybe the fact that I do wear a lot of color by now adds a bit of an artistic feel, maybe it doesn't. I don't actually know. But it feels authentic to me and that's what matters.
    I think my hair is such an important part of my style for me because I have to wear official work attire at work and that takes away part of one's personal style. Which is actually something I do enjoy because it takes away the pressure to dress work-appropriate and allows me to dress however I feel that day. But my hair and face are the only things I can "use" or utilize to be a representation of who I am and I think that's why I enjoy having a more unique hairstyle and always add a touch of make up. I don't wear flashy earrings or anything, that's not my thing (would be possible if I wanted to, but yah...) so yah, that's my personal way to express myself even at work. I should probably also add the information that I have several tattoos on my body that of course also add a bit of edge to any outfit I put on (unless it covers all of them), but I honestly keep forgetting that factor because my "newest" tattoo is almost 10 years old by now and I am one of those people who doesn't define as a "tattooed person", I got them to represent parts of my personal journey, each has its own meaning and most of them are at least based on a drawing I made. They are very personal and part of me, so I don't see them as an "accessory". The only moments I do think about them are when I have to dress for a certain event and don't want them to be visible, which has actually not been the case for about 12 years now, so I basically never think about them. But I am aware that they definitely play a role within my style because they usually are visible. Maybe that's also why I don't feel like I need to make my outfits super duper creative and fun and artistic, because my hair and tattoos already do most of the work for me. And that's something I wanted to point out. Simply just because not only our clothes define our style, they are just part of it. I can literally put on a plain tank top and a pair of skinny jeans, a pair of flats and add something as simple as a hat or a pair of sunglasses and while the outfit might feel generic on its own, the overall look will always be specific.
    A lot of people might stress way too much about their style while forgetting that their unique body, face, hair and anything that's permanently or semi-permanently on their bodies (tattoos, piercings, etc.) already creates a very unique look that nobody else can ever create. We already are unique on our own. And maybe we should just start to consider ourselves as part of the outfit, instead of just thinking about the outfit on its own. I am aware that curating our style to match our physical attributes is basically that, but sometimes people seem to forget or not notice what that actually means. We're not just a blank canvas which we paint on when we dress, we already are part of the artwork that fully comes together when we dress and THAT is very important to acknowledge imho.

    A factor never mentioned is money, how can you have style when you are limited by money, for example in uk if you only can afford supermarket brands or £15 for a top maximum, here you do not have the option for style, you are limited by what they consider fashionable which often is micro trends and often not flattering to the mass majority, you may want flares or a certain top but you cannot afford the brands that make your ‘ideal’ style garment. so my question is money as a severe constraint how do you have style?

    • @jay3331
      @jay3331 2 місяці тому +14

      This is my take too when people praising celebrities style. Of course for one they have stylists and sponsored clothes. Another they have resources to buy anything. If outfit doesn't work for them, they can decide not wear and doesn't feel like a waste. We sometimes continue wear non-flattering outfit because we don't to waste.
      Going on a tangent, same I feel about interior design. General people don't have the kind money to design their room. Options are limited. Basic colour and designs. Rich people can buy any furniture, intricate designs.

    • @lynnfox8376
      @lynnfox8376 2 місяці тому +20

      Isn't style more what colours, shapes, and details you choose and how you put them together than buying new trends? I can buy 3 tops, at least, for £15 from charity shops and there is a much wider range of styles to choose from than what is in the supermarket or expensive store. Alyssa Beltempo did some good videos adapting what she had to create outfits similar to what she'd seen, worth a look.

      And to add to my previous comment, thrift shops are always recommended but thrift shops are such a hit or miss. And often just has clothes that people donated because they're out of style already. Plus it could take hours to really search around and find anything good.
      But kudos to anyone that can be fashionable while being strapped for cash 🙂‍↕️

    What's true for me it's that the clothes I want aren't being made. I have an uncommon body: I'm both feminine and strong. There is no kibbe for me.
    I want to wear natural fibers. I can't pull off oversized boxy stuff. I can't wear small print. The necklines that work for me are hardly ever made. I am a light winter.
