    In my experience it's very important to try on different clothes in the stores, even if you're not sure it's 'your style'. You might discover so many fits and options, and actually get inspired. Also it will help better understand what clothes will look good on you when you will shop online in the future. The feeling of 'what a weird funny garment I'll try in for funs' turning into 'wow it actually looks cool on me' is priceless. Can be dangerous for impulsive buyers though xd

    I used to wear a lot of black and grey, thinking it was an edgy and sophisticated look. I went for a lot of striking/captivating clothes because I liked the style, but in the last 2-3 years after realizing that black/grey/bright colors don’t actually look that great on me, so I’ve stopped buying them. Edgy styles are usually too much on me, when I actually feel more like myself when I dress slightly softer. Less like a costume, if that makes sense. I’m also a soft autumn, but can wear many soft summer colors so now I wear a lot of dusty colors and stopped coloring my hair dark, and I feel good 😊

    My problem is twofold: (1) my body is changing profoundly after menopause, and (2) I don’t “dress” very often (I stay home a lot). At home, I dress 100% for comfort.
    I’ve fallen out of practice, both with clothes and makeup.

      Don't give Up! I also stay at home a lot and I kind of stick to casual clothes and lounge wear. But even those clothes can be nice and make you feel good! Style is not only for business attire or evening dresses. It can be a soft knited jumper, some leggings and warm socks or some jeans with a cool tshirt and a cardigan.
      It is a matter of selfcare, selfrespect and self-love (I think that is not a word)

      That’s really hard. I agree with the previous suggestion about comfortable clothes for self care.
      I’m outside a lot in quite scruffy situations, eg dog walk in mud or on the beach. But it helps if my colours are right for me physically and mentally, even if it’s just my hat and scarf.

    • @---tc8km
      @---tc8km 5 місяців тому +15

      Post pandemic i realised that i was wearing shitty (comfortable) clothes at home and only nice ones outside. I decided that i also want to look cute and nice (and be comfy) at home *just for me*. And goodness it does make a difference in my mood and self-confidence!!
      Also because of this and working from home often, i started to dread wearing my old “outside” clothes bc i realised how UNCOMFORTABLE they were!!!! I couldn’t believe how much time in a day i would let my body feel uncomfortable just to look good!! Now i refuse to wear clothes that are too tight (bye bye skinny jeans, tight crop tops, thongs etc). I’ve even started to buy shirts that are a size bigger so they feel more snuggly and are not ‘tattooed’ on my skin.
      I refuse to believe that dressing to get out of the house, or dressing and looking nice have to be equal to feeling uncomfortable (also, if you start looking at this topic from a feminist perspective you will find even more reasons to support this :) ).
      Why should dressing “100% for comfort” be a bad thing? Why do we (specially as women) have to ditch “comfort” to be made to feel pretty or fashionable?
      Nah. I refuse to be uncomfortable on my own clothes ever again. I refuse to be made to feel unpretty or unstylish for choosing to spend the majority of my time not thinking about how uncomfortable i feel.

    Having my color season worked and finding out that I am a bright spring was a total game changer for me. I used to think that bright colors are not for me and stick to neutrals. The way you discuss sensitive issues like weight, health (both physical and mental) and getting your viewers to ask questions and truly think about motivations is very sincere and kind. I agree with you about buying from sources that offer clothing which actually fits your body properly. Blindly following an fashion stylist/influencer and expecting to look exactly like theirs never works for me. Riding myself of the idea that think or reflect about fashion and style is frivolous has helped me a lot in the search of my style.
    Since the birth of my daughter and my decision to quit my job, I have invested quite a bit of time in reading and watching videos (a lot of there were yours) about this topic.
    I wouldn't say I'm sure about my style yet, who is? But I think now I am better at buying things (less things) and I have tried new trends because I'm more open to discover new styles. Mostly I have rejected them, but I tried!

    My brutally honest answer is.... stay away from thrift stores!! Lol it's an easy and inexpensive way to try different styles but its also a way to justify my purchases with the excuse "it's only 2$" or "it's 75 cents! I shop for clothes online now. I find most stores to carry clothes that are only flattering to certain body types. I like round hem long shirts for example (pear shape so this is very flattering) and everything in stores is short and straight hem. I just don't bother wasting time looking around when I can easily search exactly what I'm looking for.

    • @stylemejenn
      @stylemejenn  5 місяців тому

      So true! I struggled with online shopping at the beginning because of certain fits, but I've gotten a much better hang of predicting how the clothes would fit! I'm learning that jeans is one item that I will never purchase online though - I MUST try them on in person to see the fit, length, etc.!

  • @yashereen
    @yashereen 23 дні тому

    I had gotten into a default of everything black rut, and then got curious about my "seasonal" color palette, and it was a really fun and helpful tool for choosing colors I wouldn't have necessarily opted for. I also found that particular colors/shades/tones can really bring out the best in my features annndd that harsh blacks really aren't the best on me. I think there's def something about having a sense of what works for you before playing with getting into more "expert" perspectives...

These serve as canvas for the colorful jewelry, long cardigans or kimono like toppers as second layer. I live in this in this during the summer. I always reach for this but continue to buy other things that I don’t wear. I also love jumpsuits but find the bathroom challenging. I only seem to understand my style in warm weather. It’s confusing being olive. There are so many videos suggesting hair colours and lip colours, and makeup colours for all the colour types but i really struggle because they somehow never really fit too well. I tried to grow my hair out but my natural hair is so ashy. I actually don’t know if it would be better to add more red to my hair again (as I did for yeeearss) or just let it live it’s mousy brown life as everyone suggests natural always looks better. I feel like i look older, lifeless and more grey with my natural hair, it’s hard to resist the urge to colour it again. How can we olive girlies make something pop? :D

    Wonderful video as always, Jenn ❤ I passed the last year studying the Kibbe, 7 essences and seasonal color systems, and fell in love of how they inclusive they are, in the sense that they dont require that you fit into a trend, they look who you are and recognize your own unique characteristics. What you do with that knowledge, if you follow or not their recommendations is up to you, at least you know why something don't work for you the same way it does for someone else.
    One advice I can give for people interested in learning these systems are to study the personal color system first, it will make the other systems easier to understand and apply for you. Like, most exemples of Kibbe Natural ID and Natural Essence outfits on internet have an Autumn palette (warm and muted), if you have an Cool palette (winter or summer) you may think that those clothes would look bad on you, therefore you are not a Natural. Or you may have Kibbe Classic and/or Classic Essence, whose examples tend to have neutral colors like beiges/blacks/whites, if your palette is a Bright type (Bright winter/bright Spring) you may think you're not a Classic, when in truth the silhouette and aesthetic fit, you just need to add more vibrant colors!
    Once you know your color palette it becomes easier to adress why an item that fit you very well feel "off" and not mix up the reason to why it does. Your judgment becomes clearer 😊

    I knew a girl once who told me that in the summer she would weigh around 10kg less compared to the winter. So each year she lost weight till summer, then gaining till winter and then losing again till summer just because she was more active in the summer and going out more while rather staying in in winter. Even without health reasons our weight can flucuate quite a bit naturally so It makes sense to have a little leeway with the fitting of your clothes
