"Misfit" Lion Cub Seeks Attention From the Pride | Love Nature

- The little "Misfit" wants to make friends, and approaches the big males, too. The males are his best line of defense and worth befriending. The little cub approaches the adolescents. He clearly wants to make friends. But the gang on the edge of adulthood is dangerous. Their instincts are muddled, unpredictable--sometimes playful cub, sometimes lethal hunter. The older cubs are beginning to eat meat, in this case, the stolen scraps of a leopard kill. They're about three months old now, and this is mostly about training, developing hunting instincts, and slowly moving their digestion from milk to meat. The loner just needs some confidence to join in and catch up.

This misfit cub documentary is the best wildlife doc I've ever seen. It has literally every thing in the emotion spectrum. Visually outstanding, with crisp audio and commentary makes this (for me) THE BEST! I'VE WATCHED THIS DOC LITERALLY A DOZEN OR MORE TIMES. IT'S THE BEST!

it is precisely this paradox that makes me hate lion cubs, so I love to see them die under the fangs of other predators.
They are the only animals that inspire this feeling in me. Oh and I hate... cats, but for other reasons!

The most poignant story of this tiniest but extraordinary being who defined all odds to live. He has the most indomitable spirit & the bravest heart. Impossible not to ache for him for all the drama & suffering he had to endure as a cub. Too bad Nat Geo stop producing Africa’s Hunters series. The Misfit was featured in Coming of Age. Wish to know if he’s alive or did have a pride of his own. Would want to follow his journey.

In the full episode of “Africa’s Hunters” on the Nsefu pride, which I saw on Amazon Prime, the most heartbreaking moments were when the Misfit’s mother refused him milk. She jerked away from and growled at him to back off when he tried to suckle as a small cub. With him injured and limping, she seemed to see his nourishment as a waste of her limited resource. He didn’t appear likely to survive into adolescence anyway.
My knee-jerk reaction was annoyance with her for the neglect and outright hostility, but I had to realize that such is life in the wild. Human norms often don’t apply where survival of the fittest is law. 🤷🏽♂️ Tough decisions have to be made that aren’t always easy for people to understand.
This part isn’t shown here, but soon her motherly instincts kicked in and even extended to the Misfit. She picked him up and carried him away to relative safety after he began drinking from croc-filled water. The rest of the pride also waited for the Misfit as he lagged behind while they traveled to another area of their territory along the Luangwa River in Zambia.
An even greater triumph occurred when as a teen in lion years, he led the pride in taking down a buffalo. He then took the seat he’d earned at the proverbial table as the pride feasted.
Thanks for posting this segment from the docuseries “Africa’s Hunters.” I’ve seen many chronicles of wildlife, but the Misfit’s story has been the most fascinating to me.
Especially gripping to me in this video were two parts: 1) where “the little oddball is excluded” while the others were playing and 2) at the end where the rest of the pride left him behind. As you can see in later segments, they didn’t abandon forever, but it was still very sad.
The window tht theses producers gave us was an incredible story of a lion cub tht have all the ingredients of wht makes him the king, your heart melts for ths Lil misfit cub an thn your given a burst a joy in your spirit an won't to see him survive as he is thrown every reason to give up but he never quit, BRAVO!!

They are a serious threat.this week a female lion eat my camel.I'm from northern Kenya.the Kenyan wildfire service promised to compensate but this predator still posses threat to our animal and ourselves.
