Dan Galucci honestly deserves credit, too - people always say in the early days they were a trio but even in a lot of the early videos you'll see Dan off to the side, just out of frame so there's only a few frames of him - but there nonetheless. He's there at the famous Mercury Theater gig. He came up with some of their most notable riffs and progressions and when he left Isaac himself said how it felt like they were losing an integral part of the band - it was thanks to Dan that Isaac had room to do a lot of his improvisational stuff and experiment, so I honestly think he deserves credit.
@@fuzzydunlop7928 you're right and Dan was a much appreciated musical mind+presence in the day. I'll always be indebted for his work on LCW in particular. It might be more accurate to say i miss this ethos...though it was a killer sound
@@fishfur9530 I'm pretty sure he co-wrote bankrupt on selling with Isaac and appeared on all tracks for Good News. He also wrote the chord progression for The World at Large which would later also be used for Float On. However, the fourth person on stage in this video is not Dann as he would've already been heavily tattooed at this point.
that ain't fair ,man. How they gonna go back to sounding how they did at the beginning? Any other band would kill to have the second half of their careers.
Isaac, Jeremiah, Eric, and Dan - probably the best live era for the band, though also the most erratic. Never could tell if the show was going to be good or fall apart. Luckily it was the good examples that made it on YT. lol
To me. Heaven would be a small dark lightly attended personal venue like this; where all of the greatest bands and rap artists perform for eternity. With an open bar and indoor smoking.
this video captures the sound & ethos that made me fall in love with the great indie rock of the 90s and Modest Mouse in particular. huge influence on my perception of good, honest, raw music and pure personal expression
How did this band have so many amazing songs in such a shower period of time?? I had no idea they were playing stuff from The Moon and Antarctica in 98.
The bass and guitar parts on broke are sooo fking perfect. Not to mention the words, melody, and drums in the 2nd half. I feel like I went back in time when that song started 😢
I was at this show and have no idea why he was there. He looked like he was about to die on stage. They basically didn’t even have the moog in the mix. It was bizarre.
@joeandel I've been wondering this for 12 years - since this damn video came out lol. He looks like he's on opiates, which with early Issac I wouldn't be surprised
Got to see them a half dozen times from '98-00 while in Vancouver. We would take the Greyhound and go see their Seattle shows too. Getting to operate the lighting board for them 2 nights in a row remains a personal highlight. Thanks for this upload ♡
BTBoards If you want music with the same energy and emotion as mm try teen suicide, whirr, girl band, and Told Slant has shockingly similar instrumentals and pulls of the same vibe as early modest mouse
This is the MM I remember. I watched the power trio in 1999 at a bingo hall in Dundalk, MD at Sheerwest Gardens. They were right on the dirty carpet with the rest of us. While the Shins opened (never heard of at that point) we pounded beers in the parking lot and watched Isaac Brock come out of their famed road van by himself, we said our hello's, gave him a beer and watched him walk inside. Miss those days.
Jeremiah Green - their main drummer. Peloso joined pretty late in the bands career and the only other drummer they've had was the bloke who filled in after Jeremiah's extreme emotional event during the Good New for People Who Love Bad News era.

I was supposed to go to this show and my idiot friend Jen thought it wouldn’t sell out and didn’t get tickets. Keep in mind this was an era when you heard an awesome band from a friend of a friend, went to the music store bought their CD and then just waited to finally see them live. Great times
i was not a fan of this band for a long time but i see now that their not half bad. its not alice in chains or soundgarden or slayer or pantera so it got overlooked.
I think he's playing a Westone Corsair here but now he plays a Wicks custom guitar. I don't think he actually liked this one, he called it a butt rock guitar.... but he needed a Floyd Rose bridge and high output pickups.
***** Yeah, I'd agree. comparing some photos, the Soloist has a lot less space between pickups than Isaac's guitar. And I'd reckon that Jackson wouldn't make a guitar that "metal" in Baby Blue.

Jeremiah is such a great drummer. I would say he is underrated and definitely one of the best indie rock drummers of all time
I sorely miss the trio and this sound. Jeremiah is like water, rolling over that kit. No one like him.

wtf does the sound mixer have against bass?? other than that absolutely perfect
could of done without the moog guy honestly. otherwise brilliant
Moog dude looking just like a circa 1971 Roger Waters
Polar opposites kicked so much ass. I can only hope they relearn it and play it when I go see them next month. The last time they played it was 2002
