30: NP435 Transmission Rebuild (

I opened up the transmission last week and noticed that two fork clips were missing on the shifter forks. One thought led to another, and I ultimately decided it was time to open up the transmission and rework the output shaft to try to fix my second gear.
In 2012, when we rebuilt the rover in this project, I attempted to rebuild the transmission myself entirely . . . I had never done anything mechanical on a vehicle other than change the oil and gas, or wire in a stereo perhaps, prior to this Rover Rebuild project. All went mostly well, except something was always wrong with my second gear synchro. I bought the transmission on craigslist, and had never driven it before I replaced the output shaft with the Advance Adapters shaft . . . so maybe it was always bad. Since the NP435 is geared SOOOO low for 1st gear, this was never really a true problem for daily driving: I just started in 2nd gear, and never downshifted into 2nd while stopping.
Well, I am pleased to say that the effort was well worth it, and everything works perfectly now. Here's a video that might help a regular guy figure out how to get in there and take this on alone with some confidence. This video series has been as much about being able to find entirely useful answers and guidance online to rebuild an entire automobile, as it has been about resto-mod'ing a 1964 Series 2A Land Rover. This is a lost opportunity to archive a UA-cam video showing how to rebuild an np 435 transmission; clearly you know how to rebuild this transmission, but it’s very disappointing you didn’t put it on video. You assembled a general narrative commentary with a wandering script, but little can be made of the video contributing to the collective knowledge of how to rebuild a transmission in general, or how to rebuild the np 435 in specific. There are decent videos on how to rebuild similar transmissions like the SM 465, or even the T18, but NONE on how to rebuild the 435. It’s frustrating to have only bits and pieces and glimpses of the 435, only to have the video skip around, 1 second disassembled, the next assembled, then the next installed.

This may sound crazy , but here we go!!! Will the driven geers swap out to the idle shaft ? Reason being I wanna build a under , direct , over transmission. Was thinking the New Proses second geers would be the correct ratio I need for both the underdrive , and overdrive. I'd rather not hafta make the geers if I could simply buy bullet proof proven geers. I can make the shafts , housing, and 🍴 fork. This use to be a common swap on big semi trucks to swap the ⚙️ gears to overdrive 9 ,10 , 13 , 18 speeds. Well the 18 speeds were hot rods on their own right.

I'm guessing this is a ford NP435 4sp? Are all ford NP435s the same other than the difference in 2wd or 4wd output shafts & tail housings? I know the 4wd has atleast 2 different output shafts. A 28 spline for a Dana 21 transfer case & a 31 spline for a NP205. But other than that were there any changes made over the yrs?

Where did you buy your parts for the rebuild? Bearings, gaskets, seals, syncros, etc...?I've been looking and found a few websites but am very skeptical.I have an 87 ford F150 4.9L 4x4. Thank you

I actually do have an NP435 but found a ZFS5-42 transmission at the junk yard and swapped it out

No...por lo que se ve en el vídeo es una remotorización de ese Land Rover con un motor V8 problablemente un Ford 302 o 351 EFI de Inyección electrónica (7:06 a 7:08) en lugar del motor de cuatro cilindros original del "Landy" y por consiguiente la caja de cambios New Process 435 es compatible con ese motor Ford V8 ya que fue equipo estándar en muchas camionetas de las series F-150 a F-350 entre 1964 a 1993 mientras los "Landy" vinieron con cajas de tres cambios en las series I y II (Británico y Santana Español) mientras en las series Defender ya venían primero con cajas de cuatro cambios y luego de cinco cambios...
