And it was FREE! No tickets, no admission. The whole production was organized almost on the spur of the moment. And better music has seldom been heard. The Hyde Park Concert will live forever.
I was at this concert in Hyde Park. It will stay in my mind for ever. I loved Cream, Blind Faith and Ginger Bakers flying airforce. A better dummer never lived.
One of the most magical days of my life. I was there and still remember every moment. 'if you can remember the 60's, you weren't really there' - bollocks - I was there and this brings it all back (even the coach journey home where me and a fellow hairy freak fell asleep on each other's shoulder - where are you now?)
There is no doubt some will never "get it". To my ears...pure genius. It was a special time for music. Nothing like it before or after. I was seventeen. What a great year it was.
I wonder if anyone realized at the time how much this song would still resonate 54 years later. Not all live versions work for me. This is not of them. All 4 of these musicians are cornerstones of shaping the direction of music. I’ve lost track how many times I’ve watched this. Never gets old
I never thought I'd be alive this many years later much less being able to listen to whatever music I want instead of waiting to hear it in concert, on the radio or buying the album if it was available! I can't say how much I appreciate being able to listen to such great music whenever I want to. What a blessing!
I love Steve Winwood's voice here. It's so raw, raspy, and real. I love his voice cracks; those of a young man barely out of his teens, and the emotion and effort in his singing. I can't stop listening to this.
I can't help but wonder how Blind Faith - or Cream, for that matter - would be remembered today if they had stayed together for 8-10 years. Amazing talent and timeless music yet so short- lived.
Had Cream not disbanded when they did, I bet they would have made some bad records and stained their name. The infighting and tension between the members would have destroyed the music if it didn't destroy the group.
True music in the moment was the aim and putting big talents together was a receipt for breakup. Watching old Beatle's vid's only breaks my heart to see the anger between John and Paul. So sad. Mr Dave Mason seemed to think his britches too big for Steve Winwood, too bad. I still attend Winwood shows not Mr Mason.
Ric Grech on bass a fellow Leicester lad living just up the road from me. I met him in the 80s when he was in bad health from years of drink abuse-----what a nice guy he was and a very talented musician, we had some good conversations-----RIP Ric

A great musician, I'm from the states, and undoubtedly great music came from there but the Brits took the music from the states and kicked our ass in many aspects of music during that time, especially for guitar players and songwriters.. Alexis corner and John mayall influenced more musicians than they will ever know.

Another "supergroup" with Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, Ric Grech and the inimitable Stevie Winwood. Go easy on him. He was going through puberty when this was recorded. What a sound.
Anyone who is a true music person knows damn well this is classic. Steve is in fine form for a 19 year old. Even the little cracks in his voice are beautiful and what make it so special. One of the best videos and songs I've ever heard. Oh to have been there.

Stevie s 21, Eric is playing Steve's Telecaster Guitar , Clapton filling all the gaps. What makes him GREAT, no pedals just Guitar, cord, Amp, heart, soul fingers, Just a great touch!

The album version is genius, and I don't use that word lightly. I realize it could never attain the lofty heights of, say, Shakira, Coldplay, or Natalie Imbruglia, but still. Would you want to be judged by a single accident under difficult circumstances from half a century ago? He's had quite a few chances to make up for it since then. (Up until he started making songs for beer commercials, that is. But that's an entirely different issue.)
Those who say there will never be such musicianship again are completely wrong. Music of this quality transcends time; and there is always an infinite amount of potential possibilities in making music of this quality. You must know how to do it.
Im 57, been a drummer my entire life, mom had Dylan, Blind Faith, joe cocker, santana, Allman bros albums but i seemed to like alice cooper, montrose and ELP.. But i have been going thru the history of steve winwood (spencer davis, BF, traffic) for the past few daze here on YT and i feel rather dumb that i didnt realize/remember how many KILLER TUNES he was part of. Havent got to his solo or SD stuff because im still digging up Gems from Traffic & Blind Faith that i completely!! Forgot from my youth. It all started by watching bill murrays last appearance on letterman and the Band was playing Empty Pages. Its been a Stevie Winwood Ride for the past 3 Daze. AMAZING TALENT.... Thanks YT for allowing me to rediscover this musical bliss.

Nice footage capturing an awesome scene at a point in time. Have to admit, I would go back if I could. And very interesting to listen with the perspective of 50+ years. You can hear them all in a kind of transition state. Cool to see Clapton on the Tele, and mostly content to sit back and play the simple melody. Winwood’s voice is so unique, and even though he breaks up here he sounds great so full of emotion, you can hear echoes of what is to come with his later stuff here. Ginger being Ginger, but like the others letting the music take center stage. No one here showboating, though any of them could - just play the music with respect and passion. And the audience is fascinating. I wasn’t there but coulda been. Mostly people watching and listening, with a few going nuts dancing. Was great stuff to listen to stoned on late 60s weak weed.

I'm now 53, but for a few minutes, I was 16 and playing air guitar. What a wonderful memory and what a wonderful piece by Clapton.----That was Donovan rocking out towards the end.
From my experience, it’s more likely he’s fighting a cold or some other malady. Happens to every singer at one time or another. These notes aren’t out of his range.

Nice singing by Stevie Winwood,some laid-back, contained country-ish Telecaster playing by Clapton with occasional Cream-like flourishes, Ginger Baker in fine form and Ric Grech is solid on bass. Good stuff.
Beautiful job of putting this stuff together by a group of guys who all could have been elsewhere doing other rockstar stuff. Melodic and intense. Happy and sad. Aggressive and restrained. Clapton at his best. Steve happy as a jaybird.
Steve is a great vocalist. Sometimes singers have an off night when they are playing outside in cool weather. Listen to the Blind Faith studio album and you will see what I mean
Wow, i am 31 and got into Clapton about 10 years ago and i am reading his biography right now (which I had to imported from UK that's out of print). As i get through the book and realised that I have missed out a lot of historical moment in music history that every blues musicians such as myself should take notice of it. Great piece of art work.... I love it.
No pedals. No compression. No effects. (No rehearsal). Just pure unadulterated music.

Peter Zabriskie Mason was always a weird dude. Very unreliable, not always interested in the band, wanting to do his own thing. But a talent.
They are remembered for precisely the reason they were short-lived. Short terms but more than legends they remain*!

Saw them in Philadelphia on July 16, 1969. Ginger's ten minute solo got a standing ovation and changed my life forever.

Nice singing by Stevie Winwood,some laid-back, contained country-ish Telecaster playing by Clapton with occasional Cream-like flourishes, Ginger Baker in fine form and Ric Grech is solid on bass. Good stuff.

Beautiful job of putting this stuff together by a group of guys who all could have been elsewhere doing other rockstar stuff. Melodic and intense. Happy and sad. Aggressive and restrained. Clapton at his best. Steve happy as a jaybird.

Steve is a great vocalist. Sometimes singers have an off night when they are playing outside in cool weather. Listen to the Blind Faith studio album and you will see what I mean

Wow, i am 31 and got into Clapton about 10 years ago and i am reading his biography right now (which I had to imported from UK that's out of print). As i get through the book and realised that I have missed out a lot of historical moment in music history that every blues musicians such as myself should take notice of it.
