Great series. I like recording with real amps and effects for inspiration alone. To me this is most important. I can then reamp with multiple mics or use amp sims and even mix both real and sims together. Talk about choices and not being left to use software alone.
Lefty playing a righty set up for a lefty with a lefty neck strung for a righty !!! My mind is officially blown . And it sounds good too . Albert King would be impressed .
"Nothing that sounds more real than a real amplifier." - If you rephrase that sentence you see why this is a redundant statement: "Nothing sounds more like a real amplifier than a real amplifier". "Modeling software ... is created by people that you have never met they're all created according to their tastes..." - That is also true for real amplifiers.
Love the series ! Beware though, I think this guitar's compressor settings were a bit too harsh. Big chords at 6:30 of the video, compressor kicking in fast is really audible.
Great info but what if you want to record all effects at the same time? i usually record one take with drive pedals + octaver +modulation and another one with all my effects on. I choose later if the effected tracks fit in the mix. Most of the cases they do fit. Thanks!
Excellent video! Extremely important advice. Quick question though - in the final tone example at 6:25, it sounds like there's a hard limiter with about a .25 second attack time on the guitar that is really aggressively clamping down on the dynamics. Is this deliberate? and if so, is it part of the player's setup or was it something done after the fact?
Hi Josh, what you hear there is a side effect of crosstalk from the amp into Geert's headset microphone. We tried to minimize it, but at these amp levels it can’t be avoided in all cases.
Great info, thank you guys. Will be recording some things at home soon using a Strat and Les Paul through a Marshall dsl5. Think I need to have the Strat adjusted.
Great video series! And "funny" to see a lefty playing "upside down" don't know many players that play with the Bass string at the bottom. Thanks for making these series!
Thanks for these useful videos:)! Would u make a video about recording of singing-playing on an acoustic amp same time (plug in guitar-mic) and best solution for that kind of performance like live performance in a bar,pub thanks:)
I have a TLM 103 and I use it to record amplifiers, but sometimes I'm afraid of high gain levels that it receives from the amplifiers, can it spoil? Is there any parameter I should follow, any tips?!! Excellent video, great
yup but stuff like bias amp 2 and fx are sounding pretty damn good. and costs a hell of a lot less then buying a ton of amps. plus you can change the sound after the fact if you record it dry.. dont diss amp sims they can be very good these days! if you want to go back and change the sound you cant. as the sound id stuck based on what amp you used. i just like the flexiablity of being able to change it then actually you have MORE options to "make your own sound" then you would with just one guitar amp recording. not to mention all the crap you have to lug around if your recoding somewhere else ..your guitar. your amp your petals etc. lots of stuff to lug around! i think discouraging people from using software amps is not very good i got some pretty damn realistic results from software amps of late. and there is proof online that they can sound just as good and with bias amp 2 you can actually make your OWN amp and custimize your own sound further!
Hi Don, the signal you are recording should not be above 0dB, as this will lead to distortion. The problem with recording with a high gain is that the recording can't be fixed afterwards. If you record with a lower gain, you can always add distortion and process the signal to your liking 😉
I like these, but to compare a well set-up strat to a less than ideal set-up tele seems a bit unfair. The two are so different sounding even when both perfectly set-up. Would have been a little more accurate to use the same guitar and just mess with the bridge or tuning.
Why hating so much on software amplifiers? We are in 2020 dude, amazing options like STL tonehub, neural ,Axe Fx, Kemper etc that will sound 10 times better than that 100w amp with oversaturated compression
My only problem is having to run a computer full tilt enough to handle low enough latency settings that make it playable. My computer just gets hot trying.
Having that whole rack of processors and criticizing modeling software seems a little bit contradictory, as the modeling software are no lesser part of the "whole instrument together from guitar to the amp".
Hi! Geerts voice-overs have been pre-recorded, of course. But all the vocals where you see him talking in the video have been recorded live via the headset he is wearing. We did no further overdubbing or editing there. Have a nice day!

It’s still redundant, and it’s called emphasizing, you idiot. Pick up a freaking book
These are not only informative, but super well-shot and choreographed. Very impressive 👏
Hi! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on our tutorials! We really appreciate your input!
Nice. But where's part 2. Patiently waiting
Love the series ! Beware though, I think this guitar's compressor settings were a bit too harsh. Big chords at 6:30 of the video, compressor kicking in fast is really audible.
Thank you so much for this beautiful tutorial 👍🏻😊🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hi Jude, we're so glad you like it and we always appreciate feedback! Have a lovely day!

I use dynamic mic for recording E. guitar (SM 57). It sounds so pure and without any room ambience.
My first investment for my home studio its goint to be a neuman mic ! Love the pristine sound of them !!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Have a look at the tlm 107 .
It is a multi pattern 103 .
Ok ill look
Great video man you explained this perfect!!!
Great info, thank you guys. Will be recording some things at home soon using a Strat and Les Paul through a Marshall dsl5. Think I need to have the Strat adjusted.
Very informative thank you! I agree that mic recording the guitar amp sounds the best but how do I get rid of the low static hum noise?
noise gate... probably
Great video series! And "funny" to see a lefty playing "upside down" don't know many players that play with the Bass string at the bottom.
Thanks for making these series!
I've never seen this before.

His tone sounds very good!
that is a fantastic tone

Love the video editing! Nice stuff.
Hi Camilo, thank you for your positive Feedback. We really appreciate it!
Please post part 2 x_x
phenomenal upload Georg Neumann GmbH. I broke the thumbs up on your video. Keep up the very good work.
These videos make me want to come hang out at Neumann lol
Very informative video! Thanks for making this :)
It sounds like there's a limiter or something in that us cutting the volume every so often.
What if I I have a tube amp and need a high volume in order to record the sound I like? How far should it be
Hi Don, the signal you are recording should not be above 0dB, as this will lead to distortion. The problem with recording with a high gain is that the recording can't be fixed afterwards. If you record with a lower gain, you can always add distortion and process the signal to your liking 😉
so its ok to record electric guitar with your pedal sounds before eqing
I swear all my life I thought the electric guitar was recorded directly through an audio interface!
woah the guitarist is left but the strings are gauged upside down!!! like a right handed guitar upside down!
Mic six inches from amp . Got it .
Perfection guys. Keep it up.
Thanks! We're glad you like our tutorials!
thank u guys ! good Info!
Glad to see some lefty representation!
I have a loop pedal. Am I able to put a loop from the pedal into FL Studio?
I dont agree about adding digital effects later, unless you mean sending it back through pedals
Awesome video and sound. You’re a master at your craft.
Is that a relic’d lefty guitar??? How???
Also this is a *really* well done video lol
is he a left handed player?
He is 😉
He's good.

Yes!!
The guitar is too loud for the mic, like its overloading it
Wow . The stupidity of that statement .
Why hating so much on software amplifiers? We are in 2020 dude, amazing options like STL tonehub, neural ,Axe Fx, Kemper etc that will sound 10 times better than that 100w amp with oversaturated compression

Well, they are a microphone company. If you don't have an amplifier, you don't need a mic.
Can I hook it up to the computer so that I can record without being too loud?
you might aswell use a virtual amp then
LOVE THIS SERIES!!!
非常棒!
Having that whole rack of processors and criticizing modeling software seems a little bit contradictory, as the modeling software are no lesser part of the "whole instrument together from guitar to the amp".
I agree. Can you hear the slow attack of the compressor in the last bit?
All my Mics i use are Neumann for me there's no Compromise no ifs and buts when i record.
So the professor is teaching guitar recording while no shoot for La Casa De Papel?
Looks more like Angel
cigarette shaped beard
The background music is too loud and you talk to quiet. I hardly can understand what you say.
Is that a single shot?? Haha
why is this dude playing a right handed on left ?
Left handed guitars are expensive and hard to find…or he wants to be ‘cool’!
@@DanielS10291 secondary
It's a left handed guitar strung upside down. Never seen this before.
Your voice..it doesn't sound like its real time speaking.😒.....i mean you dubbed right..
