    T-Nu getting fancy here with "Thermal Gloves". I just use oven mits or my calloused hands. Still watching the video, but I had to get that out of my system.

    • @CajunCraftastrophe
      @CajunCraftastrophe  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, one of my Patrons bought these for me and I was like, "What the heck?" but the finger control works great when using a heat gun. Plus, the easiest time to break a sculpture is when taking it OUT of the oven. These gloves allow me remove the sculptures from the oven more carefully. I have grown to love them. : )

    That looks so good T-Nu. The fact that you took out a flipping welder to this thing blows my mind. Also, throughout this video you kept using a lot of very STRONG connections that makes me think you have some sinister plans for this truck. WHY DOES IT NEED TO BE SO DURABLE!

    • @CajunCraftastrophe
      @CajunCraftastrophe  2 роки тому +8

      Thanks Knarb! You know, if the world does go all Mad Max I don't want end up as a War Boy or worse, strapped to the front of some Warlord's hot-rod. Instead, I want to make battle toys for the feral children. It's much safer. This is why these playthings need to be so durable. Maybe we can join forces in the Wasteland so that we could make amazing toys for the little animals. So, let's break out the arc welder and get the tetanus shots prepped beacause we have a play-date with DOOM! : )

    Dang. Not only did you take me back to my 1980s self being blown away by the raw awesomeness of Road Warrior, but you created a seriously hard core scale model of the tanker using materials and techniques rarely seen in the mini world. Welding? Actual metal work including templates? Yes, yes, yes! Fan-freaking-tastic.

    This is just awesome! And it means a lot that this is something you started over a year ago, and then came back to. A lot of folks have partly finished things sitting around, and we quietly grumble at ourselves for not finishing them. But this gives us hope, you know? We can come back to these things when we're ready, or have more skill to finish it.

    • @CajunCraftastrophe
      @CajunCraftastrophe  2 роки тому +2

      Yes, sometimes you just have to put things aside. One key thing to keep in mind though is that once you put that one thing on "pause," you should start working on something completely different. If you don't do any building or crafting for a while then that inertia that is hard to get over.

    I don't know why this showed up on my list of recommended vids, but I'm glad it did. When "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" opened in June of '82 I saw it opening night with a friend. By the time I left the theater it was my favorite movie of all time. I was on pins and needles for "The Road Warrior", having been one of the few Americans who saw "Mad Max" in the theater. I was hoping it would be good, but I had no idea what I was really in for. So two months after "Star Trek II", there is a Sunday night single showing sneak preview of "The Road Warrior" at the Crestwood Cinema in Saint Louis. My mom and I go. I'm less than a month from my 16th birthday. It's a hot August night. My mind was blown. From the opening montage to the end epilogue I was entranced. I nearly cried when the black on black got rolled and eventually blown up. And of course my heart sank when the dog got killed. But "The Road Warrior" became my new favorite movie of all time, putting "Star Trek II" in 2nd place. I think I saw "Star Trek II" with that same friend at least 3 more times, and with my mom once. I saw "The Road Warrior" the following Saturday with another friend, and we went back to the same theater to see it again at least 6 more times. We eventually also saw it on a double-bill with "Bladerunner" along with his dad and a friend of ours. I also remember going to a dollar theater with my mom to see it again months later. When it came out on VHS the following summer I rented it, borrowed a friends VCR and we dubbed a couple of copies. I may actually still have that copy to this day, in addition to a Laser-Disc (YES!!! LASER-DISC!!!!), DVD, and Blu-Ray. I also have the original soundtrack LP which I bought at a convention before I even saw the movie, and a couple of theater one-sheets (the A & B versions). In 2001 I was fortunate enough to be at the San Diego Comic-con and to meet and get the autograph of Virginia Hey who played the Warrior Woman. I had a digital camera with me and after I got her autograph I went off to the side and took a few photos of her talking to other people. In late September or early October of that year, a friend called me and left a message on my machine, "I'm in Collinsville at Archon. Virginia Hey is here. Print up one of those photos of yours and bring it for her to autograph. I did so. I put it in front of her and asked, "Can I get your autograph on this"? She looked at it for along moment and asked me, "Where did you get this"? I replied, "I took that last summer at the San Diego comic-con". She loved the photo. And she autographed it for me. I treasure it to this day. There have been a lot of great movies since, so... can I say that "The Road Warrior" is still my absolute A-number-one fave? Maybe not. But the black-on-black Interceptor... at least the original "Mad Max" version is my favorite car ever. And the big truck from "The Road Warrior"? Definitely one of my favorite post apocalypse survival vehicles. You did a good job on this. I'm subscribing and seeing what else you've done.

      @@CajunCraftastrophe No commercials to edit. When it came out on VHS I rented it. No copy protection so my copies were pristine. And I did subscribe. I'll have to catch up sometime. P.S.: I hated "Mad Max: Fury Road". Probably one of the lamest movies since "Plan 9 From Outer Space". No plot, Hardy was NOT Max. The movie would have been better if it had just been called "Furiosa" and had been all about her, with some backstory and NO MAX!!!!!!

I tell the same thing to everyone and they all say how much they loved it. To this day no one has been able to tell me how a crap movie with ridiculous over-the-top imagery and neither discernible plot no character development can be enjoyable. It was a movie made for ADD children who are hopped up on behavior meds and can't follow along with a decent story.

    Excellent work, T-Nu! "The Road Warrior" is definitely in my Top 10 Favorite Movies List of all time, and this build brought back a LOT of memories! You really hit all the high points when building your (albeit not exact) replica of this iconic rig; which is arguably the most famous movie tanker truck only second to the one depicted in "Duel."
    Another famous movie truck that I'd like to see a model of, (but that is largely ignored by hobbyists,) is the Korean War-era GMC M211 truck used to transport the unstable dynamite in the 1977 movie "Sorcerer." (That bridge crossing scene was intense!) Please consider that one for a future project.

    I was 11 when this film came out in the US in the summer of 1982. I didn’t get to see it until it was broadcast on NBC until 83/84.
    I recorded it on the ole Panasonic VCR. I then duped it onto my grandparents Betamax. I then transferred it back to VHS, carefully editing out the commercials.
    NBC had made a few cuts here and there to allow it to air on network tv. They did a pretty great job keeping it inline with the theatrical version. That was a rare thing indeed. The TV version of Smokey and The Bandit that ABC aired a few years earlier was ridiculously unwatchable.
    This version of the Road Warrior became my definitive version. I watched that tape over and over. I hooked a tape deck up to my VCR and copied the audio onto a cassette tape so I could listen to it in my Walkman and later my first car.
    It’s now hard for me all these years later to watch the American theatrical version and even original Australian version. It just feels off.
    Ps. You know what’s weird… I think my son had that Nylint Truck set in the 90’s.
