Just discovered your channel this evening and have been binge-watching episodes. I’m kind of a history nerd, especially local and Ohio history. I too love cemeteries-so peaceful. The cemetery where my family is buried actually has paved walking paths, and people walk there daily. Here is my “paranormal “ story. You decide. My mom passed away on a Thursday evening. The Showing was on Monday, funeral was on Tuesday. I took my bereavement days and had the rest of the week off, returning to work on Friday night. (I worked 7pm-7am.). I got home, and my answering machine was beeping with a message. I had cleaned it the previous day, so there were no mess on it when I left for work. I pressed play, and I heard, distinctly, my mother’s voice, saying, “It’s Mom!” I was speechless! I’ve played it for all my siblings, who agree it’s mom’s voice. I felt very comforted, like it was her way of telling me she was okay, and watching over me. I still play it from time to time.

@@CuriousHistoryYT just found your channel. I love cemeteries!! "There's nobody famous buried here, but they were famous to somebody", very touching words. I was surprised there was no-one visiting any gravesites. It seemed to be so 'lifeless', (no pun intended) until you notice all the cars going by on the road behind you. Almost as if they were ignoring the Cemetery. Every grave stone has a story to tell. Many thanks for another great video:-)
Yep Kiwi, very quiet. Cemeteries used to be a very social place back in the day. People used to picnic and party in cemeteries but those days are gone. I wonder what happened to change that?
@@CuriousHistoryYT my theory is that for the past 50 years or so people started having to work more and more just to make ends meet, so their free time slowly started becoming more and more engulfed in taking care of their immediate family when not going on vacation and people at some point in time stopped making records and as the records stopped they eventually forgot about their deceased ancestors. Which now leaves those of us in our 20s struggling to find out who we are kin to and trying to find our roots
@@jamesTBurke Our Ideas about Death have also changed a lot, Particularly in the last 100 years or so. If you look at older practices, there is something kind of celebratory about it in a kind of somber way, and that was just for your average person, There are little remnants of that like the funeral procession that linger on in some places. But, it's become something much more shunned and avoided these days rather than something that is part of our lives and forefathers we give some attention to. That's not caused just by working more but also in a general change in our societal attitude about things, some of it brought about by things like the increasing rise and utility of hospitals and advances in medicine instead of these things happening in our own homes like was commonplace just a century or 2 ago compared to being very rare and almost strange sounding today.
Cemeteries are peaceful places. I have always loved walking through cemeteries, especially old ones. I walk through, read the names and dates and wonder who they were, what their everyday lives were like. I have always loved history and am enjoying your videos immensely.
I know this place well, hung out here as a kid, know all of the roads, every area of it, that is what a lot of Falls kids did, I grew up 2 blocks away, my daughter and father are buried here on the hill near the 6th street entrance as well as other family members, in other parts of the cemetery if you go up on the hill known as 6th street hill there are some of the oldest head stones there, just as an FYI there was a lake in this cemetery back in the 1800's , you can find pictures of it online, it was next to the chapel , also every year there is a memorial day parade that comes down portage trail, turns onto Oakwood and goes down into the cemetery, then there is a memorial service for the military soldiers where they are buried.
I just found your channel an hour ago as I was looking for ghost history. I'm really enjoying this. There's something about the music you use and your voice that sounds soothing as I learn what you have to say. Truly enjoying.
I used to live in a graveyard! My dad said I'd be in one long enough! It was a caretaker's house historically. I could sense male and female spirits at different times, but it was very peaceful.
Beautiful cemetery. I like to drive through cemeteries just to look at the stonework, there is amazing stone cutter art. Also, I feel a lot of folks don't visit anymore and put out flowers like they used to. Every year I do the family cemetery run that is 167 miles round trip visiting 6 different cemeteries in Illinois.
I'm pushing really hard on birthday 70 and part of me is sad that the number is high, and grateful that I've made it this far when many haven't. Taking the walk with you is bittersweet, knowing that all of us face this outcome and happy that I'm still above ground Great video.
I too love cemetaries. I find them peaceful and love to notice the different styles and names. I walk daily in a country cemetary down the road from me. You should check out Lakeview Cemetary in Cleveland, it is beautiful and so interesting! Many famous people are buried there and has a gorgeous mausoleum for President Garfield that is so beautiful. It is like an arboretum with so many beautiful trees and shrubs too.
My ancestor, Private Hubbard Blaylock, died at Camp Sumter (Andersonville Prison) of an abscess. His brother, Corporal Michael Blaylock, was one of the few members of the 2nd Tennessee Mounted Infantry to make it out alive. They were captured at the Battle of Big Creek in Rogersville on November 6, 1863. Hubbard died July 30, 1864. His brother was exchanged and sent back to his unit. I go to the Camp every winter and visit the site and my ancestor’s grave. I hope he knows that him, and all of the others who were lost there, are still remembered all these years later. I will be going back again this winter to stop by and remember him. My husband’s Granny’s ancestor died aboard the Sultana. I don’t know much of that information but it’s crazy how intertwined all of our stories are.

That monument is around $130 to $140,000 depending on the type of stone used and height and ornamental properties thats now. The cemetery i worked at were millions of dollars on a few but weighting 8 to 35 ton. Our Confederate circle has 2000 poor souls some dead some dying buried in mass pit and covered over in 200ton stone monument. Even today people are killed by accidental detonation of cannon balls sometimes just a tap will cause the spring detonator inside the fracture cannonball.
