Many thanks for uploading this. A great insight into the process and makes me appreciate how labour intensive it it. I hope you get a good price for all your hard work! It's a shame we don't see Ugandan coffee very much in the UK.
Thanks for the kind words, Steve. Joel and other coffee farmers like him definitely deserves to be better paid for their hard work and dedication. We are very happy to buy his coffee at a premium price. And good news: Wild is working to launch our coffee subscription in the UK as soon as possible. Cheers!
Thank you. We are very happy that people view and like this video though, and hope to make many more videos soon, so we can hopefully grow our subscriber list. Thank you for subscribing!
Hello, Do you happen to home roast as well? Would you be able to suggest a very juice and fruity coffee? Something that tastes like cherry or blue Berry? I roasted a Honduran bean 3 weeks ago that was amazing and last year I had Brazilian Santos beans that tasted like I added cherry flavoring. It was so good. Out of 5 batches, only 2 batches could I pull the flavoring out. What do you like? How about roast level? Have you invested in a really good grinder? That will be my next investment and upgrade. For now, I'm experimenting with brew specific water. That is where coffee can really pop. I thought it was fine to use filtered water, and it is, but using brew specific water... oh man. Coffee really shines with water made for each type of brew. I look forward to your kind reply. 😊
This is an excellent video for me to understand the coffee processing. I would love to try your coffee joel, i hope i can purchase it from Malaysia, thank you Joel! If i have a chance i would love to visit your farm - with love, coffee lover and roaster ; Miza
Stumbled across this video, and what a great insight into the honey process as well as an exposition on Mr. Joel Kaburu. He exudes passion, humility, and love for coffee and those around him. I tried some Ugandan coffee for the first time in a recent coffee tasting I did and it was the clear favorite amongst our group! Would love to try Joel’s coffee whenever y’all expand exporting to the US!
Good work. It wouldn't work for my customers to buy roasted coffee. I always adjust the amount I roast for serving. My customer drinks one that has been roasted for a maximum of two weeks, otherwise too much flavor is lost. The only exception is espresso, which is prepared between 10 and 21 days after roasting for an optimal profile.
That sucks that people are taking advantage of these farmers by charging very little. Glad your doing something better for the farmers. This documentary really makes you appreciate the coffee that we drink.
Thank you! It is very true: the farmers are the weakest link in the coffee value chain, and unfortunately, there are quite a few actors exploiting them, We believe the best solution is more transparency, traceability and establishing a direct link between the farmer and the end consumer.
@@mellowmike4306 We are. Joel's coffee is still great. But coffee farmers always face challenges. We need to make a follow up episode with Joel so he can share the latest.
Thanks Alyssa. We are working on expanding our global distribution, and are hoping to be able to deliver to the main coffee markets in EU and USA soon. We hope you can be patient a little longer...! For now, you can get Joel's coffee from Wild Coffee Bar in Kampala. 🙂
I am very saddened by the fact these farmers and their staff work so hard with so much passion yet only get a few dollars a pound. Meanwhile the roasters charge upwards of $30 a pound. The industry needs to change. At a minimum it should be 50/50 split of what the coffee is sold for.
I felt the same way. Since then I found a site that shows exactly where the coffee was farmed and I sent them a gift of cash in the mail. They will never know me but it felt so good. I'm only telling you because you seem like a good person and maybe if you can, you could do the same. I would not have done so by my own thought until someone sarcastically told me if I felt bad then I should send them some money directly. Idk if the coffee I got was indeed from that farm but does it really matter in the big picture of things?
Joel's English is amazing and I gotta say props to him for his hard work
Joel you are Jewel of the nation ❤❤❤
Thank you Joel for sharing your knowledge on Uganda coffee.
Hey Joel, congrats on advancements in processing Honey. Look forward to have a cup when I stop into your Sipi town center cafe.

There is a reason why speciality coffee costs a bit more, everyone can see the labor involved. I really do love the taste of Honey Processed coffee.

And very great visual as well.
