    I buy used solar panels for dirt cheap and use cheap grid tie inverters because I'm to broke to buy an entire system atm

    I’m a contractor in Oregon. I don’t know what is up with the solar panel installers but I have fixed a Lotta leaky roof’s over the years after solar panel installations.

    Why REC is not the highest rated among those three manufactures? REC has the lowest temp degradation, and lowest degredation percentage per year over the life to the panels. By the way, I am installing REC 420W panels next week over Q cells panels.

    • @SolarSurge

      Of these three, I do think REC is the best overall pick.

      Good choice! The Pure2 panels are packed with impressive features. These panels utilize advanced Heterojunction Technology (HJT), combining N-type monocrystalline wafers with thin amorphous silicon layers for highly efficient energy production. The gapless cell technology means there are no gaps between cells, maximizing the active area and boosting power density. Additionally, without traditional soldering and wiring, there are fewer potential failure points, enhancing the panels' reliability and efficiency.
      The 3 bypass diodes divide the panel into three sections, ensuring that if one part gets shaded, the rest continues to function efficiently. Although this model does not offer 4 bypass diodes like some of their other panels, the 3-diodes configuration still provides excellent shading resilience, minimizes power loss, and maintains consistent energy production even in less-than-perfect conditions. Plus, these panels are lead-free.
      I've heard their funding to their warranty reserve is industry-leading, covering both parts and labor directly, so you're protected even if your installer goes out of business. I wouldn't be swayed by warranty offers that claim 40 years.

      @@SFzip This is absolutely important. The Maxeon only has two bypass diodes, followed by canadian solar at three, and finally the REC Alpha Pure RX at an impressive four bypass diodes (Note that the regular alpha pure 2 lineup only has three bypass diodes).

    Do you not have Aiko? They are one of the world's largest manufacturers of solar panels. Their Neostar S2 is a full black 460w panel with 23.1% efficiency, has a 25 year product warranty and a 30 year production warranty for a maximum degradation of 0.35% per year, and a temperature coefficient of 0.26% per degree C.

    Why not include Canadian Solar? Higher efficiency rating than REC.

    I am in the process of getting Maxeon panels. I understand they are facing a few hardships right now. However, from all the research I have done on the company, I have concluded that they make a solid product. They just opened a manufacturing place in New Mexico and the a boat load of cash was just invested by the chinese company who know controls the majority of the stake. Based on the things I have seen, I am willing to gamble on the 40 year warranty.

      We have 2 panels, totalling 1500w for our camper. Square footage is only 10% of the roof. What are you running that you need more power, out of curiosity?

    Aiko appears to beat these ... AIKO-A470-MAH54Mw for example, fairly cheap, or even AIKO-A495-MAH54Mw (announced but not yet available). Or their Neostar S2+ range of double-glass n-type panels.

    If you find a specific panel that works well for a DIY/assisted installation how do I find where to buy them? It seems like most things I find are just for installers or similar to buy pallets or containers full of panels.

    Consider speaking to the active camera.

    • @SFzip
      @SFzip 2 місяці тому +7

      Your suggestion about speaking to the active camera is understandable. However, with two cameras rolling simultaneously and Joe consistently looking at camera 1, there's a specific reason for this setup. When Joe makes a mistake, the jump cut to camera 2 during editing creates a smoother transition compared to using camera 1. This technique improves the final video quality, which is why Joe isn't looking at camera 2 during recording.
