I don't get why April O'Neil looks like Blaze Fielding from Streets Of Rage, but I'm not mad or disappointed. I just find it even more odd that April decided it would be a good idea to fight with powder blue mittens on and even somehow she can scratch people really badly and rapidly with them on. I don't know what her fighting style supposed to be, but judging by her stance, maybe some wrestling, few karate or Tae Kwon Do and some gymnastics due to how she flips and jumps around all blended into some hybrid style that works for her.
Wow, April looks just like Blaze, specifically in SOR3, which came out a year after this game…interesting they ditched her trademark yellow color palette. She even does a suplex, slide kick (maxed out blitz attack from 3), and hair flip just like her! The slide kick they obviously used as a base for one of the SOR1 Blaze”s attacks in SOR Remake.
I always wondered who Sisy was… definitely comic characters, but this game was a major letdown to me as a kid Less characters than the SNES version, short story mode and I never knew there were 2 endings… I’m guessing it was based on selected difficulty?
It looks like they tried to mash the comics and cartoon together. Shredder dies super early in the original comics, can't recall when/if Bebop and Rocksteady made an appearance or if they were as prominent. April wasn't as big of a pushover in the comics...don't think she was "throw down with a Turtle" strong, but she was depicted as a little more street-smart and not as much as the "damsel in distress" the cartoon depicted her as. This was 93, Turtles weren't as deeply entrenched in pop culture so there was a bit more room to experiment with lore to see what stuck. Just my guess. As someone else said, could have also been a bit of licensing issues because comics and cartoons had different copyrights for different characters.
Dang, I didn't know April O' Neil was so powerful. Going toe to toe with ninja trained mutants and winning by a big margin. They turtles should take her with them on missions!
"Ohhhh yes!" Funny story: mother purchased a Mickey Mouse cartridge from Toys R Us when they were selling genesis games for like $5 and when we put it in the console this was the game we were met with; unintentional fun ensued.
Hahaha! “Lock on” with that residual sound effect from the rockets does kind of sound like that the first time… the rest of them sound right to me though
Ever Since Both Master Splinter & The Turtles Taught Her Hold Her Own & Plus Casey Gave Some Bold Fierce Encouragement In Her If You Know Just What I Mean.
The credits roll differently between the good ending and bad ending. In the bad ending, the credits roll as they would in a modern movie against the title screen’s background, and it shares it’s music track with the introduction. In the good ending, the credits roll as they would in a TV show, and it has its own music track. The good ending requires beating the game on the highest difficulty level; if not, you’ll get the bad ending.
The music was fantastic, characters used taunts, you could customize your character's stats and the scenarios looked great. It is also one of the first fighting games that allowed you to change scenario in the middle of the fight. It's one of the best fighting games for Megadrive/Genesis, the problem is that it is really hard and the SNES game is much, much better, making this game to look bad.
Omg whatever you smoke when you played this game lol let me have some bro lol. This game was soo ultimate trash compared to the Super Nintendo version you should check it out

A very underrated game on sega genesis, sure thay can make it better at the time, like more fighters to choose, but the game has a great OST and very fast gameplay. Had lots of fun in 2 players mode.
Idk what the computer was doing in this game but you could lock them down with April's throw. They legit would not do any sort of wakeup on you. Just throw, walk back over to them, throw again. It was insane. I went through 3 waves of survival and never lost.
Is kind of strange that a fighting game forces you to play on the hardest setting if you want to see the ending (but for Konami standards of back then, is not that really a suprise, other games at least outside Japan did it like Contra 3 and Sunset Riders on SNES). Edit: During the Triceraton fight, as soon as you got grabbed, I just knew how that round was going to end, I mean... that grab is just cheap as hell and can potentially 1-shot you at times (AKA: sometimes you can't set yourself free from that grab and just have to take the "L" on that round).
I can't lie... I hate this game because the AI would make it so hard for u and make sure that cheap moves to win... But I love the music and stages transitions. Still one of the best one.
I remember April in that SNES ver was named Aska (they meant Asuka) as a non-cannon character entering the tournament. Probably Konami’s jab at making the game appealing to Japanese audience.
Aska was originally supposed to be Mitsu from the third live-action Turtles movie, but because the third movie wasn't well received, she became Aska instead.

April is hot, Karai as well
I love that Casey and April were both playable in this game. Casey's bomb was absolutely ridiculous!

How did Bebop and Rocksteady not make it as selectable fighters. Missed opportunity if you ask me. :(
