Wow, you are lucky to get your hands on one! The US does not de-mil them, they just send them to the woodchipper. It's a shame as it's an amazing radio.
The PRC-150 has the citadel encryption on them so that’s why they don’t release them for sale. The RF-5800 does not have the citadel. If you look on the front of the PRC-150 on the model number tag in the front it will have “CCI” for controlled cryptographic information. Unfortunately the citadel chip cannot be removed and leave the radio functional.
@@K5KTM that’s completely wrong, CITADEL is Harris proprietary encryption made for their export customers. The PRC-150 does type-1 which is a broad term for the SECRET authorized communications, it can do all these Type 1 modes: ANDVT-HF, VINSON, KG-84A/C and ANDVT-BD. Plus it can do citadel and AVS(AES) for interop with foreign nations using the export radio RF-5800H-MP, which all come standard with citadel. AES, Datotek and RF-5022 encryption are optional addons. I have used a PRC-150 professionally and own a RF-5800H-MP, have both models manuals and their CPA programs. Check out my video on the RF-7800S you can clearly see citadel being an option on a complete export only radio model.
I was hoping you would take the cover off the fill port….there were two different kinds of connectors used thru its lifetime. It looks like the most recent…..
@@Radiogenesthank you very much. Are you powering the speaker with a separate battery or is it able to run off of the radio? Sorry for the million questions.
@@K5KTM no worries! Glad to answer! No power from radio. There is a power cable with a difficult to find connector… I replaced that connectoe with an aviation type one… so I can easily power it up with a 24V psu or battery
The RF-5800 is a great radio as is most radios manufctured by Harris.

The US demils radios that they use. This radio or model has never been used by the US military.
