PRC-2000 CALLPAC on the beach
The sun was shining and even though it is December we are in Barcelona and the beach is always an option. Lately taking my military radios to the beach allows my wife to be on her own while I play with my toys.
Propagation was good, and 20W were more than enough to have some QSO
I wish you all a good 2025 thank you for dropping by.

PRC-2200 Beach OPs - military radio
It is a pleasure to be able to operate a radio on the beach. These radios are made to withstand the most hostile conditions, and the beach is one of those places you wouldn't take your precious Yaesu or Icom. The radio performs perfectly, even when propagation conditions are not the best. It would have been great to have an external speaker, but that considerably increased the weight of the alr...
POV Motorola Micom 2R on the 20m band
The Micom 2R is a software defined HF transceiver able to operate on any frequency in the 1.8-30 MHz range. The 2R is a military grade unit designed for installation as a front-mount mobile radio, although it is often used with a 12 VDC power supply as a base station. A very interesting radio IMHO. RU-20 Ex Yugoslavia Military Manpack Radio
The RU-20 was produced in the Ex-Yugolsavia by RIZ under Collins license. In fact it is a PRC-515. This unit is a good example of neat design and functionality. It just works. Only a few controls put you directly on the air. The antenna tuner is fantastic and tunes anything. It is a 20W HF transceiver that really performs like a 100W rig. I made a new Li-Ion battery for this radio, you can see ...

RU20 / PRC515 power hack
In this video I show how to change the power output on a PRC515 or a RUP20 military transceiver. As Mr Kovacevic says, it is not recomendable to icnrease power, even though this radio is likely to be able to deal with it. As you all know, an increase of 20W is not a big deal and you are stressing the radio (an old radio) In most cases if they don’t hear you with 20W they are not hearing you wit...
SOTA with a military Radio - Grintek TR178B

In this video I take one of my military radios to the wild. This radios were designed to withstand all kind of environments. However carrying them is not a piece of cake. My Grintek TR-178B is the lightest military radio I have, so I thought it made my life easier, Although carrying the radio and its accessories for 3 hours of walking with the slope and high temperatures proved to be a great ch...

Muchas gracias
I have one of these as well. Got it nice and muddy on one trip and hosed it down when I got home. Yes the radio can take it. In the woods I use a wire antenna thrown up into trees. The built-in antenna tuner in the radio can easily handle it.
it has internal auto tuner? And what is current price in market?!
Nope. Too small to have that luxury
How to program RF5800 VHF please and thank you

how much
Not nice to receive a radio so badly packed.
@EI6DP it still hurts when I think about it
Yes I can imagine how you feel. Some years ago I purchased an as new Yaesu receiver on eBay. It had gone missing in transit, I eventually received it. When I opened the box and removed the packing the receiver was dinted from top to bottom, it looked very like the box was at the bottom of a very heavy load. Luckily I was able to remove the dints etc but it was a valuable lesson to learn. Never buy anything around the Christmas season as the carriers are flat out and no concern given to loading containers/vans etc.
Nice Location, nice Radio. I have also one of these.
@@MrMeierzwo this is a good one sir! A heavy one 😅
Well-done a beautiful location and a grate radio. 😁😁😁
Mine only transmits 3.5 watts. PA Bias is full 255. Oh well, at least it works.

What is the component shown in 4:06? What is the model type and what does it do? I guess by installing it you don't need to unsolder the EEPROM when you remove the EEPROM?
Hi! It is a good practice whenever you unsolder an eprom, to solder on its place a socket so you can take it out easily the next time
I have one of these on the repair list and hope to get to it someday. It was great hearing yours working well. They used a lot of these for Civil Defense in the USA. Those are all bright yellow, mine is the steel gray color like yours.
I am building a battery pack for this radio. Already have it built but waiting for the yellow high temp tape, BMS and shrinking external cover. Your video on building the battery inspired me about learning all about batteries as possible so I could build mine. By the way… where can I find the battery level tester you have installed on the exterior of the battery (@5:26)? Rob, YS1RS
Always good to watch your videos. Thank you for sharing. I have ben looking for longtime the program for these radios . have many of them.

Very well done ! I do the same here on Malta. I pick a military portable radio and a bit of food and go for long walks. Keeps me young hi. I have x2 Grintek TR178. However the receiver of one is very very insensitive, so something is wrong , maybe in the rx front end, or maybe requires alignment. I have a small collection of military radios and I am always fixing something, so understand what its like. However I could not find any technical details about this radio. Do you have any such information ? thanks and regards Vincent 9H5LX
@@schatzperson hi Vicent! This radio has tantal caps. They are very prone to failure. I suggest you change those in the reception board. I think it will fix it. I have tech manual yes

PD.
