I came upon your tutorial today and will be sharing it with my children because your explanations and step by step demonstrations make it very understandable. I was even able to predict the waist line band needing to flare out with the skirt line just before you showed it, even though I have never sewn my own clothing, just made repairs without any instructions. Thank you so much!
Your tutorial is really clear - as said before by another poster, I have to agree, I am learning more in a very short space of time from your tutorials (and the other fab ones on UA-cam) than I've learnt at Sewing School - thank you soo much for sharing, you have no idea how much of a gift you're giving 💋
I was gutted to realize my favorite skirt is not sold anymore. With this tutorial the project of copying it seems actually doable. Thank you for a great video!
I️ am so glad to have found ur channel. You make the easiest tutorials I️m so thankful seriously!!! This is an amazing video I️ can’t wait to see what else you have posted.
Always love your fabulously helpful tutorials, but was curious about where you would put the Grain Lines on your patterns made from existing clothing, like on the waistband of these skirts you demonstrated. Thanks again! Keep them coming.
The grainline arrow is always going down the body so I imagine how each piece fits on the body to determine which direction it goes in. So it would normally be parallel to the side seam.
Thank you so much for this!!! I've been searching for 2 hours trying to find a video that demonstrates how to transfer the darts from clothing onto pattern paper. There are lots of tutorials for how to draw and sew a dart onto fabric though :P
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. Great job. Could you show a start to finish tutorial with the same diy patterns? Beginner here trying to understand how I would move forward after creating pattern. Thanks again!
I imagine one would have to add the amount of gathering in determining how much material is needed for the waist… maybe by stretching the skirt waist out to its max, seeing how many ripples are still left and adding a bit for them.
I usually turn it inside out just because when I'm tracing it, then I'm including the seam allowance. If you do it right side out, then you have to remember to add seam allowance. But it's whatever you prefer really. If they have 1/4" seam allowance and you want 1/2" seam allowance then you can do it right side out and add that specific amount of allowance :)
What about grainline markings? I can see how the straight skirt grainline would be easy to find but the flared skirt panels seem more problematic. What tips do you have for correctly marking the grainline?
+queengrebrz have you seen our tutorials on doing this for the simple tops and intermediate tops. In the intermediate tops, we do go over a collar. ua-cam.com/video/tCEs0SMyzDc/v-deo.html

Very nice!!!
Brilliant!!!!!!
does it make a difference weather the garment is turned inside out when creating pattern?

What is that paper you are using called?
alphanumeric pattern paper. I bought it on amazon.
What about grainline markings? I can see how the straight skirt grainline would be easy to find but the flared skirt panels seem more problematic. What tips do you have for correctly marking the grainline?
grainline should be parallel with the "place on fold" line or the center back/front line.
No entiendo porque pone el papel debajo para trazar la pinza?
Si alguien puede explicarme gracias?
please, make it for shirt, especially with collar :)
