This is the only placket tutorial I can actually follow. I've watched several videos and they're mostly difficult to even understand. This is so clear and I've used it several times now!
I work at a fabric store and I have learned so many helpful things from your tutorials. It makes it easier for me to help my customers. I suggest your channel to so many people, especially the beginner sewers.
I want to thank you so very much for your clear tutorial on the placket construction and please continue with your clear videos. I am a newbie with learning to sew my own clothes and appreciate your videos. Please continue and your beautiful nails.
Thank you! I don't know how many videos I watched on this topic before yours, but now I get it. My first practice placket came out well enough that I now dare to cut the cloth for my next garment.
Nice tutorial. Technically it doesn't matter but it is maybe worth mentioning that in your video the closure is left over right, which is often used for men' clothes, while for women it is often right over left.
I am from Sri Lanka. This is the first time to sew a placket very successfully following your video. It's very clear and easy to follow. I tried so many videos but I could'nt do it neatly before'. So thanks a lot. I don't know whether you have done umbrella sleeve and butter fly sleeve. I did'nt check your videos. If not pl do some sleeves and the chinese collar. Once again Thank You very much. I will check your videos. I wish you healthy life time.
this video has helped me so much i am doing my final collection for collage and i really needed this literally the best tutorial i have found for placket
Hi professor ! ur sewing technique regarding placket is extremely helpfull .i have applied it while sewing and it really worked for me. thanx keep the good work going...
Love you Tova. I'm not sure if I'm here for the tutorial or to look at your well-manicured nails. Lol Thanks for giving of yourself to help others. Xoxo
I'm using a Butterick pattern B5526. And there is the "placket" and the "front band", do I need to use both or I can only use the "front band" to make my shirt?
Just love your videos! Help me out here. I may not beeing looking at this correctly . Why wouldnt you, or coukd you, sew the placket to the outside (just the opposite of what you demonstrated) then hand sew on the inside, giving the outside a clean neat finish? Is it because you have to top/edge stitch the placet down?
That was very nice. What I would like to see is I guess you would call it a placket. But one for mens slack with hidden fly buttons I would think that the under side of the top placket would have hidden button holes so that would mean the top part of the placket would be in two parts is that so and maybe how would one be created?
+Russell Gibson yeah, that's a different process than this but this tutorial might help: malepatternboldness.blogspot.com/2011/05/jeans-sew-along-10-how-to-make-button.html
Can I use this technique for a button down classic shirt?! If so would I just make the length of the placket the total length for the shirt? Thanks for the tutorial it's very easy to follow!
+KrisMarie You could if you wanted to, if you can finish the bottom so that it looks nice. With my placket, it's still 1 piece at the bottom and a button down shirt it's 2 pieces. Watch our tutorial on the button band to get an idea on how it's done. ua-cam.com/video/OGKoGsZ8Ga8/v-deo.html You could make your own pattern for the button band, it's basically just a rectangle that's the length of the front bodice and the width is: desired width x 2, plus seam allowance. Then you can cut a copy of your front bodice down the center and add seam allowance to this edge. Hope that gives you some direction.
hi Tova. i have seen some rtw blouses that have plackets where one part of the placket has concealed buttonholes. i mean the buttons can not be seen from the outside. is the method of construction with this video? Btw, thanks so much for the detailed explanation.
Hi there! Love this tutorial! But how can I do this when the dress I'm making needs lining? Do I sew it like it's one fabric? Would love to hear your suggestions!
you would probably have to do the plackets differently to get a zipper in. Check out our tutorial on the fly zipper. I would imagine that it would have a similar look.
+Sheri Sterling instead of a hook and eye, you can do a small button and a button thread loop. It's more time consuming but I think makes it look more couture.

I’ve been struggling with plackets and driving myself crazy trying to figure them out. This tutorial finally helped me to figure it out!!! Thank you
This is just what I need, thank you. I have to put a placket down the front of a smocked frock and had no idea how to do it neatly. Thank you again.
glad to help! :)
Nice tutorial. Technically it doesn't matter but it is maybe worth mentioning that in your video the closure is left over right, which is often used for men' clothes, while for women it is often right over left.
Exactly, this tutorial is confusing for a placket on women’s clothing it is the wrong way.
It's clear so all I would do is turn to the side to gender fit❤
I followed your instructions, stopping to do each step and then continuing the video. My placket turned out great! Thank you!
nice! I'm glad it worked out for you :)

This was so unbelievably helpful, thank you!
living for the little blue stand in your hair ;)
Great tutorial!!
Would this also work for a skirt placket with hook and eye closures?
So so helpful. On a knit garment, such as jersey, what type of fabric would you use for the placket?
Excellent video, very easy to follow! Your a super teacher, thank you!
you are such a good teacher.
I really love this‼️..... Could you transform let say a regular tshirt into a Henley shirt using this method??
What an excellent tutorial..probably the best I've seen. Thank you!

Thanks - very helpful to me right now as I’m trying to make one

Hi Tova. When the final product is buttoned, does the neckline measurement stay the same as the original neckline measurement?
Thank you! That was super helpful 🌻
Great video. Thanks for sharing!
What an amazing tutorial! Thankyou so much!
you're welcome! :)
yeeeeaaaaaaazzzzzzz sis, this is just what a girl needed.
Great tutorial, thanks!
what an awesome tutorial!!! thank you for sharing.
Is this the same process I would follow if I wanted a hem slit with binding? I’m not sure what that’s called.
That was very nice. What I would like to see is I guess you would call it a placket.
But one for mens slack with hidden fly buttons I would think that the under side of the top placket would have hidden button holes so that would mean the top part of the placket would be in two parts is that so and maybe how would one be created?

+Professor Pincushion thank you I do think it will.
Is there a part two on how to finish up the neckline with a placket?
Thank you. Very clearly explained.

so glad it worked out for you :)
Excellent tutorial. Thanks ❤️
Please tell me where you got your iron
Thank you! It worked perfectly!
I'm so glad it worked out for you :)
Would this work with a tshirt?
Surely for a women’s top the placket should be reversed - the one with the button holes be on the top and buttons on the bottom one?
Very well explained 👍
Great job
Excellent, thank you.

can i make a button down dress with a double jersey knit fabric
hi Tova. i have seen some rtw blouses that have plackets where one part of the placket has concealed buttonholes. i mean the buttons can not be seen from the outside. is the method of construction with this video?
Btw, thanks so much for the detailed explanation.

Thanks a lot 👍👍
Hi there! Love this tutorial! But how can I do this when the dress I'm making needs lining? Do I sew it like it's one fabric? Would love to hear your suggestions!
if it were me, i'd do it after the lining is in and treat it as one fabric. good luck!
Professor Pincushion Thank you! This is getting marked professionally, will this method mark me down?
Thank you so much 💜💜💜
Very nice 👌
Need some help..are we suppose to make neckline first and then button placket?
Do you mean "finish the neckline"? I would put in the placket and then finish the neckline. Hope that helps :)
great job well done
as i am breastfeeding, can i put zipper instead of button with this placket? it is easier to have zipper opening than button opening for me.
you would probably have to do the plackets differently to get a zipper in. Check out our tutorial on the fly zipper. I would imagine that it would have a similar look.

Brilliant
this video is very helpful for me,, i love sew. I want to say for it, that keep it up
+Fatima Patoli I'm glad you found it helpful :)
Can you sew this with a silk or chiffon fabric?
Sure, don't skip the interfacing part though. For chiffon, you can use organza as a sew-in interfacing. It'll provide needed stabilization.
Thanks for sharing.
I do not like a hook and eye closure on a top. Can this replace the slit with facing and hook and eye a pattern calls for?
+Sheri Sterling instead of a hook and eye, you can do a small button and a button thread loop. It's more time consuming but I think makes it look more couture.
+Professor Pincushion start cating
very very helpful
Thank you very much.
Thank you so much!!xxx
It,s good Ilove it

Why the button placket is from the left to the right?
