I am the fourth of fourteen children. Growing up in a Christian home was amazing. My parents made the decision to live in Norther Minnesota of 126 acres, and chose to live off grid. Canning for a family that size was very difficult. We did can meat, vegetables, fruit & ate alot of bears. We had our own cows, meat & egg chickens, goats & beef cows. I would go back to no running water & electric. It was wonderful working as a family of the Homestead!
I am just curious, did you mean to say you ate a lot if beans, instead of ate a lot of bears? 🐻 My wife is from Minnesota, and she told me you might be serious, but just wanted to check. 😄

Yes! All families with many children must be economical. We have 7 ( only one boy) and I also had to prepare many frugal meals. Preserved food etc. The kids helped a lot. I'm curious. How did you process the pumpkin. Dud you cook it first and then can it. And how long did you process it in a water bath or pressure canner?
@@sherlynhistand6248 canning pumpkin as purée is not recommended. The heat has trouble getting to the middle of the jar, as it’s too thick. The recommended way to pressure can pumpkin is to can it in cubes, in water. No water bath canning as pumpkin is not acidic. I partially cook my pumpkin in my oven. I cut it in half, scoop out the seeds and fibers, turn the pumpkin upside down in a large pan, add an inch or so of water. Bake until it feels about halfway done. Let it cool enough to handle. We have an angel peach (requires netting at fruiting time), citrus trees, a miniture mulberry tree. We had an avocado tree but it didn't like rain days on end and up and died. We're planning to go to the weekly markets more to buy our fruit & veg to keep the local produces going. My grandparents grew most of their vegies. I wasn't looking forward to you introducing other families although I totally understood your feeling of needing to change. But WOW, how wonderful was this small window into another family and household. So, I am now looking forward to more. By the way, here where we live in the second largest city in Indonesia, storing food is rather problematic and the locals don't do it. I have tried all sorts of healthy preservation techniques, and especially the highly nutritional fermenting of vegetables.

Thank you 😊
So our family is currently living in Taiwan and something we've discovered is that sweet potato leaves/greens are actually very popular here and delicious! Just stir frying the leaves (minus hard stems) with oil/garlic/salt provides an excellent side dish that tastes like a sweeter spinach and is very healthy :) thanks for the video, so encouraging!
Hi Alison how are you doing today
That little girl baby meadow is so sweet and cute 😍 💕
THANK YOU FOR SHARING THE STORIES OF OTHERS 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I wasn't looking forward to you introducing other families although I totally understood your feeling of needing to change. But WOW, how wonderful was this small window into another family and household. So, I am now looking forward to more. By the way, here where we live in the second largest city in Indonesia, storing food is rather problematic and the locals don't do it. I have tried all sorts of healthy preservation techniques, and especially the highly nutritional fermenting of vegetables.

I grew up in a family of 12, my mom pretty much did all the same things as this family, except we didn’t have a garden or animal because we didn’t own enough land.
