Hahhaha, good catch... yep. I have a thing for watches... mostly divers, but couldn’t resist the speedy; it has special type of charm. The history is also, literally out of this world 🌙
Very well put together video! Thanks for making it! I wonder how these might compare to Kessils? From what I understand they have better penetration and overall power which makes them more SPS friendly but I hear Kessils give better color for mixed or LPS reefs.
I am not so sure LezLuna, as i never ran Kessils before. What i'll say is based on visiting local reefers and stores in my area, i haven't seen any sps dominant tanks lit by kessils only. Its typically either T5s, Radions, AIs, or large panel LEDs...
Your video is good. Your tank looks nice too. But with your success I see another example of how LED's are excellent for color but not growth. I can honestly say your 6 month growth is my 2 week growth with MH/T5. I'm dying to find a LED unit that can grow as fast as old school lights. Still looking.
Great video. i don't understand if you are using 82% or 60% program schedule as you show in the measurement chart. I also have 3 gen5 15 blue in a red sea reefer 250 but I don't have a par meter unfortunately. they're going 60% with diffusers and I'd like to know if I can push harder...
yeah, actually was noticing that as well - less coralline on the rocks could be that coralline does't like high par, or perhaps that - given the lack of algae, my urchin is eating coralline. not sure
@@TheBioReef probably the urchin, i had 2 tuxedo urchins and removed one since there was not a single spot of coralline that i could see left lol now its popping up again. When there is lack of algae the urchins will go crazy on coralline.
Do you find that your major lazer acro is a slow growing species? You helped me a couple months ago identify my frag. I believe it’s acropora Sarmentosa. It’s based out and is slowly growing some coralites, but the polyps at the end of the new coralites have lost all their color (translucent). I’m not sure if I’m giving to much light or if it could be from low nutrients. The color of the coral has changed from a dark minty green color to almost a lime green. Great video I really enjoy following your tank progress. -Dave
@@TheBioReef I have a green tenuis also and the new growth (branches) on that is a pearl white. I can post a quick video of what I’m seeing and maybe that can help. Thanks for the help😊

Hi. How are you? Good video and beautiful tank. I would like to know if I can use this same configuration in my tank please? And if it is possible that you can share your template? I have a 125g mixed tank, 72 "wide x 22.5" high x 18 deep. Currently I have 2 X30 blue in the corners and 2 x15 blue in the center, all with diffuser. 12 "above water level and 8" apart between lights. What would you recommend me please? Today I put the BRS recommended settings for the blue, but I really don't like it that much. Too white. My hours are from 11am to 9pm. And I set it all to 100%, starting and ending with 40% point intensity and 60% peak, and 100% schedule intensity. I would like to know your recommendation if possible. I loved the progress of your corals in 6 months.
Sounds good John - you can simply recreate the settings shown in the video starting at the 3:25 mark. I don't know that the BRS settings are. My suggestion would be for you to get a par meter and then adjust the intensity to get the par values you are looking for (depending on your corals of course).
@@TheBioReef Thanks for answering. Incredibly I found you in R2R too and wrote to you. Is it possible that you could share your template with me, please? Sorry, I'm not very good at this and I think that with the template I can adjust it now more or less, and when I rent the pair, give it the last adjustments
Hi Steven. My advice would be to get or borrow a PAR meter and determine what intensity gets you PARs of 250 to 350 on the rock work. Start at the lower end, then slowly increase from there and see how your corals react. Every tank and aquascape is different, so measuring values is the best way to go.
I have both lights, and both are excellent lights and both apps have their bugs and flaws but they are easy to use. I found AI app more user friendly but not such a big difference between mobius. About the lights I just give 1 extra point to Ecothech G5 becuase is not a Puck of light and you get better spread and less heat, but if both lights were like ecotech G5 with all leds spreads instead of a Puck, there will be no difference between the 2.
i did start out the tank with 2 xr-15 but found that adding a third unit was really a game changer in terms of coral growth and color. SPS need more light and coverage.
I run the sps ab+ program on my tank and the gen 5 blues are optimized to run this program. So the gen 5 are designed to deliver the 18.5k spectrum at a higher par than the pros. So you lose a bit of flexibility in terms of running a wider spectrum of light at higher par with the blues, but if you are just planning to run the sps ab+, then the gen blues are perfect
Is that six months growth? From the reduced coralline algae and minimal growth I’d say you had some bad alk swings, not trying to be negative I experienced the same thing recently, surprisingly the coralline was the most obvious indicator but had similar stunted growth (I run gen 4 too)
Not overly impressed with the growth in that time span. I have had little nubs turn into mini-colonies in the same time span under T5's with higher PO4.
@@TheBioReef I tried but, where I got it from not gonna exchange open box,I didn’t even know I order the wrong one after .so I have 2 pro and one blues 🙁
I tried the blue gen 5 , they are really flawed lights, surrounds cracked twice , they make strange clicking noises when they are ramping up and down, the blue leds don’t match in colour between units try the stand alone blue channel some are green some are blue and it makes matching spectrum and just colours between units impossible and they have a horrible shimmer with or without the diffuser compared to the gen 4 with diffuser which where really nice, the only thing they do better is mobius app is easier and the spread is more uniform in par, there is much better lights in the price range, it’s a shame as I love the vortechs and vectra pumps the radion gen 5 are a big let down in quality and they are they are lastly quite noisy fans too, anyway your aquarium looks great mate
@@TheBioReef yes i did and they told me calibrate them lol, that does nothing other than turn the individual leds on and off earlier or later, they did swap one unit and it was abit better in colour, it for the price they are not the same quality as the gen 4 in my opinion, try it your self, go on manual mode and turn all leds off then ramp up just the blue channel, look with just your eyes mate I 100% guarantee some units will be green in hue others will be really blue, now use only 2 lights as I did on any bluer spectrum and you have one side of your aquarium green hue and the other blue and that’s on ramp up and down, only time they are really close is if you throw all the white leds on them at full intensity, I was not happy spending £1k plus on 2 xr15 gen 5 blue rail and ends and diffusers to have this kind of problem
@@TheBioReef cut a long story short, both the ai and ecotech use top Binn leds but the blue ones don’t match in hue, so it put me off any more dealings with the leds, I do however love the vortech range of pumps and the vectra range is spot on, anyone can have issues but even my friends who have had the gen 5 leds have now swapped them out for better more reliable lighting :)
