Hey Taku, you guys should search for owner financed land. There's land for sale everywhere, and you can pay it off with no banks involved within a few years. Look for the ones that have no restrictions on building, RV's or tiny homes. You could build a small place, cozy but easy to leave behind for a few months at a time. And you don't have to stress about huge mortgage payments when you're traveling. Maybe find a place near a fishy river, so you can fish and learn to hunt. Then you don't need animals, just veggies and some fruit trees.
2024 The most enjoyable view as always. Having your own little hacienda you can hand it over to your child or to someone you love dearly. Your mussel meal then dessert apple crumble Jocelyn looked delishymo ❤😊
Jocelyn you are so right....right now we have 6 cats and 2 dogs. we have raised 3 deer, a racoon, a goose and a squirrel. Our kids had the best life on our land. We are still her and we still Travel.
I love the homestead idea. I think you would be a relatable person to watch develop some raw land and turn it into a home base for all your adventures.
Wow, I'm lucky to still be watching you guys. Thanks Taku for teaching me to cook better. When your video is late, I keep looking for yall. Joycelan is also my lil sister's name. She watches also. I'm too old for you to adopt (62 yrs)but I just love you two nuts. Your show is great, keep it up. Add trouble, get a dog to raise. Hoo-ah!!Memphis, 10
I've been a subscriber since the beginning of your journey. I've watched many of your videos, and I've bought your products. Love the channel, you're living the dream brother... keep it up! I can't wait for the cookbook, I'll be buying it.
This was a great video Taku and Jocelyn! Reminded me of your early content. It was simple catch and cook in Cali. It was nice watching you walk us through the cooking process as you ultimately cook for your woman. And Jocelyn cooking for her man. -BE AMAZING!
I bet it's way harder than what you show us, and these decisions are important to make, follow your hearts and you will be happy! We will follow no matter where you live or what you decide to do! I hope you guys buy a piece land and build on it, that would create so much content!
If u did buy some land and decided u wanted to travel, u could set up the land to rent out as camping sites like that place u r in now. U could travel and still have an income. The Cheetos catches on fire because of all of the chemicals in and on it lol Is that jicama recipe going to b in your cook book? Omg was that a sea lion laying over there on the ground? I really enjoy wild harvesting plants and mushrooms. Making a cook book with wild sea edibles is a fantastic idea! U guys r a cute couple!
"Today on Outdoor Chef Life: How to turn a Cheeto into a survival tool." Also, when you listed all of the dogs you're going to end up with, you forgot to mention the Truffle Hunting Dog! You've GOT to get yourselves a Truffle Hunting Dog! I think you should name him/her "Porcini." Best of luck to you two, wherever you end up. ❤🐙🌲🍄
Hi Taku and Jocelyn I think My parents had an amazing and rewarding life. They owned and operated a fly in hunting and fishing outpost camp in northern Quebec. When off season came around they traveled. Probably one of the original van travellers. They 7:00 most did the southern states. The beauty of doing tourism is the people you meet and the connections you make. With your skills set and interests I wonder if you would benefit from buying a live abroad boat big enough to have guests interested in foraging the sea and fishing. Park it in off season and continue traveling and writing about your experiences. Whatever you guys do I wish you health and adventure. Kind regards Steve (68yrs) Manitoba Canada
Just wanna say man both of you guys are such an inspiration! Awesome to see you two together just making unforgettable memories! Keep everything up !🙌🐢
I’ve been subscribed from the start, when I was in college back in the (the mid 70’s) I had a Japanese Girl Friend so I was blessed to learn to enjoy Japanese Food and culture. I also lived your type of lifestyle back n the day and it serve well.
I love the way you think. I follow you since a long time. Having animals will have to you to choose a lifestyle. You are aware about it. I like people's who think as you do.
I've been ur fan for years, love so much ur content. You guys just living what I am dreaming for, and I guess others also have these reason. Whatever decision, we still support u, just go with ur heart as I want to see the more realistic "Outdoor Chef Life". Big love to both of you.
Dizaaamn!! Dinner and Dessert looked AMAZING! I have a major request for the cookbook: your coastal foraged cream chowder!! It's still my favorite video of all time. I've watched it probably 50 times at least. "The ocean provides, man. The ocean provides!" Love it.
Hey Taku and Joceyln. I came across your videos couple of weeks ago and I LOVE IT ❤ Currently watching your latest videos to the oldest 😅 Keep doing what you love and what makes you happy. ❤
I love both ideas of travelling and homesteading, and I look forward to pretty much anything you might get up to! It's just enjoyable to go along for the ride
Taku, your business model is based on Hunter, gatherer, and fishing. It's a big decision your marketplace may generate enough income that would allow you to do as you desire. Best wishes in whatever you choose to do.
Homestead with Taku would be a balling series or even a third channel. You can work on your homestead whenever you’re back at your home base and you’re free to travel whenever
Bro, travel as much as you possibly can when you can, just do it, Chase the dream! Recently retired from the Park service at 52, and I am gonna pick up right where I left off in my 20s and never look back ….
Well, if you're asking for 2 cents, here's mine! I would like to see more wild food foraging and cooking shows. Like, visit different areas, at different times of the year, like yall have, but do more wild food foraging in each area, along with fishing, and all types of seafood, but cook with the foods you have foraged.
I have goals of starting a homestead style property one day. If you bought land and documented your trials and learning experiences growing food, raising animals, building structures, and managing land for wildlife, I would watch every second. Thanks for all the entertainment.
I think it would be really cool to see some content about having your own land and living off of it. Then maybe some traveling after getting your land set up
Hope you guys keep travelling. One thing I regretted before settling down is missing the opportunity to travel the world with my wife. Travelling while you’re older with kids and with other responsibilities is difficult and a very different experience. Youth is precious so enjoy it while you can!
Here’s some ideas, some day get some land with maybe a pond or stream on / going through the property . You can stock the pond but don’t have to take too much care for it , unlike pets or live stocks . 20-40 acres would be perfect , plenty of foraging , catch/ hunt and cook . Or just land , because you could build stuffs , grow stuffs ,and you could always visit the water Just some ideas
Loving the content man, I’m so happy you two are living your dream life 🙏🏼 I think if you guys rent a van & travelled through Central America or sailed from island to island in the Caribbean would be AWESOME. But like some other people said- take time for yourself, relish your success & focus on your cookbook and anything else you have as top priority. Much love ♥️
I live n Washington......Moved here in November after living most of my life in California.......With 26 years in a mobile Home Park.......I now live in a decent house on 5 acres about 35 minutes from a big town on the NW Washington Coast near the Quinault Rain Forest.......Fruit trees....and wildlife EVERYWHERE.........More than happy to give you an idea of hat you might want to look for and what you might face moving here from California as I did
It's such a catch .22 getting our first house was epic but it definitely gets harder to travel you could try work with another couple to help look after animals and still film content etc Also it's both the oils along with carbohydrates that helps chips burn so well and the powder on the surface has high surface area to fuel ratio 😅 fun fact food powder manufacturers are high risk for explosions, a lot of fire safety and static electricity reduction etc in the plants * I'm a food scientist by trade*🤙 good luck on your next life choices
Here’s my opinion, I’m a long haul trucker and have been for 16 years,I’ve watched most of your videos and what I would like to see is if you could do a road trip around the country fishing around the country and camping as well. That’s just my personal opinion anyway keep doing what you’re doing my friend.
Huge fan of musscles.... That dish looks amazing. I normally just grill them and eat them in butter, but I'm definitely going to have to try what you did.
You should do a trip around the USA man... there's more to see and fish to catch outside of the West Coast (as beautiful as the west coast is) I think you and Jocelyn would love the BWCA in northern Minnesota in the boreal forest. Lots of walleye, lake trout, brook trout to catch and eat as well as pristine wilderness that we do a good job of maintaining. Only canoes are allowed here and it's a chain of thousands of lakes that you portage from one lake to another on trails. Also love the Pliny beer.
My family got a few acres along the Mendocino coastline in the 80s. Close enough to SF/SJ for business but far enough to relax and forget about the world. Definitely recommend!
I live in Washington. We are starting the homestead thing on the coast. You've been to Neah Bay. The areas further east of Neah Bay like Port Townshend, Sequim, and Port Angeles are in the rain shadow aka they get less rain/more sun than the rest of western Washington. They are centrally located to the Straight of Juan De Fuca (diving, rock fish, foraging, salmon etc.), the raw WA coast south of Neah Bay, rainforest, and not too far from Seattle. We would have preferred to be there but are happy where we are. Peace to you.
can’t wait for your cookbook. homestead would be nice. i love you travel videos in other countries but please don’t forget about California and Alaska! Japan videos are always cool. Just do the Van life and Travel do what makes you happy Know we’ll always be here to support your UA-cam channel!
some opt for a sail boat for long term living. worth looking into, given how much you guys love fishing and travel. a sailboat is basically a moving apartment.
Braddah Taku!🤙🏽 I’m a long time subscriber from Kauai. Love your work. Excited for your cookbook. Another cool venture would be a video cookbook with different categories. As a former Sushi Chef and cook, I know your recipes will be bomb. But in my opinion, YOU bring these recipes to life. I myself and the masses would love to prep and cook beside you via video anytime we want. You could even add on whenever or whatever you want. Just my thoughts as a long time fan. Keep it up. Aloha my braddah. 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Hi again. had another thought. What if you ran a seasonal camping/vans/trucks/cars safari from northern (Washington) US Pacific coast down to the bottom of Baji and back, while teaching foraging and cooking and traveling as a nomadic community. You would find the free camp sites and good coastal foraging spots. It could start in late summer early fall up north and work its way south with the warmer weather. Customers would or could start at any spot along your route. Haven't given it lot of thought but if I had your skills it would be something interesting and rewarding to do. What I do know, from years in tourism, is it a lot of fun meeting new and interesting people with similar interests and very different backgrounds. Best of luck at whatever you guys end up doing. Steve (68yrs). Manitoba
If people want that cutting board, which I think is one of the best next to layered bamboo, look up sushi cutting board. The run about $120 but are worth the investment.
Thats what my daughter did for last 2 or so years since everything started opening back up. She had houses in socal and mid cal she rented out, and sold her main home in Newport, which gave her the funding to travel, buy investment props abroad and diff businesses like back home in Japan. Anyways, fast forward to now, she just got a ram pro master 118, seems small, but shes barely a tick over 4ft haha, so its huge to her haha. Shes enjoyed coastal living like up in Vancouv, as well WA, OR, and Hawaii. But now? She has about 100 acres in williams and 80 in flagstaff. In Williams she has a private tinyhouse community, called micro homesteads. So every tinyhouse unit raises their own smaller garden or green house, some have stock tanks and fishes for food, some raise conies, chickens, and so on. There are communal farming and animals. Some tinyhouses are 8x24, some are 12x36, some are 8.5x40! They have a community gym made from 4 containers cut and welded up. They have a community workshop with a lift, tools, etc. Built for herself, and various folks from her diff social spheres. She also owns 2 farms and her ranch is getting off the ground. Her farms used to supply her food trucks, but now that she closed those and refocused on prepping and rotated food stores, and having sustainable stuff for herself, family, friends, and broader community... She just bought a closed RV park that has been closed in our home town though since before the pandem, she also bought 4 distressed farms and a distressed ranch in our county. Shes looking to build affordable solar bias tinyhouse communities for our neighbors. She bought out 2 apt communities and already relocated folks into tinyhouse rentals, shes going to have the prev apts renovated this summer, into elderly housing. Our county has alot of new projects coming. Land near those apt communities are being set aside to offer farming areas for those residents. Yall could do the same thing! My sons community also in AZ for fellow VETs in his circles? They all use Daihatsu hijet trucks and Suzuki Carry trucks on their micro homesteads, which are tinyhouses with a little land for farming and animals. They can use their kei trucks anywhere except freeways and highways. Haha... And what to do long term? More fishing!!! Get into bow hunting! Buy cheap land in AZ where kei trucks are legal, build a he and she rig with canvas backs, do mini truck camping and cooking! Maybe make videos for cooking childrens dishes and snacks? Then maybe make a video on learning to cook for kids? My great grand kids are helping folks cook, and idea popped into my head. You could do a video on diff knives and their purposes. Other tools in kitchen. Maybe do quick VANLIFE/COLLEGE student cooking recipes? Budget but healthy? Or maybe do various traditional asian dishes... japanese, korean, viet, etc to get kids into cooking? My grand nephews and nieces all are in college, but they all always eat out all the time. Maybe make videos re introducing various dishes? maybe get into hunting with a bow, and then show how to break down, and then also make diff dishes? Maybe do a series of videos with comfort food made easy, then adding various twist/alterations to them. Maybe go to overland expo and check out all the random rigs and diff ways people setup their kitchens, then give your opinions? I enjoy your channel very much as I have said, youre very easy to listen to, like my sons or nephews telling me their adventures or activities, easy to understand and enjoyable! I miss aus as well! I keep vehicles there and we have rental props, and diff businesses there, same back in Japan and new zealand! I keep GTRs and Silvias, then Hilux and a few cruisers and a jimny! Maybe do more hikes in UT, CO, etc and fish more places? Maybe get a nice cheap rig you can learn to build up, and then take to places and cook? Like if you build a westfalia, you can go to beaches and or diff parks and camp and cook? Just tossing ideas!
Buying land is a huge commitment. If you want to travel extensively I would personally do that before. But yall do you!! Would also love to see some south/central American content. Maybe Costa Rica?!? Im sure yall will crush whatever you do next though 🎉🎉
Would love to see some more Australia content as one of your aussie viewers! Victoria is an absolute must see and If you would like some suggestions: There's the Great Ocean Road which is a 243km long road, stretching from Torquay to Allansford that literally winds around the southern coast of Australia with a large part of it chiseled into the cliff faces way up high. There's also the Twelve Apostles along the way which is listed as one of the natural wonders of the world and that's not even mentioning the untouched pristine beaches and rock pools along the way. The Dandenong ranges are a lush hilly rainforest about 40mins drive outside of the city to the East which is pretty much untouched and goes for miles and miles, there's even an old steam train called puffing billy that winds through the mountains too! I also used to camping up in Gippsland which is a giant protected hilly forest with massive beautiful lakes to the north; perfect for kayaking and fishing. One of the best kept secrets of Gippsland is the Ninety Mile Beach which is a long, gently-curving sand beach which extends from red Bluff, near Lakes Entrance, south-westwards to Corner Inlet. It's essentially 90 mile protected beach sanctuary that is completely untouched by humans. When I last went trekking there from Dusk till Dawn I didn't see a single other person along the way while walking from one end to the other. it was just you and almost endless beautiful untouched beach. Yarra Valley Region: You love white and beer? We have some of the best in the world. It's a giant hilly region with tons and tons of vineyards, brewery's to sample and don't even get me started on how good the food is! There's even a few giant hedge mazes if you want a bit of extra fun. Then there's the City of Melbourne itself which is probably one of the best cities in the world for food, coffee, modern art and culture (think new york, except very friendly people and a ton more parks, museums and beaches dotted everywhere). It's real foodie selling point it's it's fusion food, there are so many vibrant places that are experimenting and mixing different cuisine cultures such as koran x japanese x mexican x italian x greek x you name it! Some places even use local native foraged ingredients given to us by the first nation people. NWAYS. If you ended up reading to here, thanks for reading my wall of text! I've been lucky to visit all over the world, but I still think Victoria is up there with some of the greats. It's an amazing place where the food, wine, nature and culture are stunning and I'm very lucky to experience it every day! #thriving Melbourne hipster
That's why I went to WA -- I could actually buy property there. As for the gloomyness, you could be on the east side where you get 4 seasons. Also, power is cheap so running heat lamps, UV lights, etc. is more doable up here. Just my observations.
Be careful which state you pick if you want to buy land. Here in OR they just past a law that basically makes small farms and livestock growing operations illegal. They say it's to protect groundwater but I'm more inclined to think the grocery/big Agra lobby wants to me us more dependent on them and their products.
Bro is living the dream really happy we can all be part of it
We love our country and how can Jocelyn criticise a country that is is beautiful.
So true.
I’d be so down to see Taku and Jocelyn spend a year in Japan the fishing and life videos would be awesome

I appreciate all the little parts that aren’t edited out, it makes you guys more relatable ❤
Put a ring on that girl! Thats the next step! 😂 shes awesome lol
Preach!
100%!!
Yesssssah do it bro you guys are both amazing people
For what? People always pressure others to marry when marriage can actually ruin relationships. Many can atest to that
Cough
Jocelyn breaking it down with the pet math 😂
More coastal foraging, especially different types of seaweed and salad recipes.
Jocelyn you are so right....right now we have 6 cats and 2 dogs. we have raised 3 deer, a racoon, a goose and a squirrel. Our kids had the best life on our land. We are still her and we still Travel.

One of the best UA-camrs!! Smart and keeps you inclusive to what he's doing. If I could meet a UA-camr it would have to be Taku!!
Also I live in Washington, come to the East side. Lots of fishing and a lot less rain.
Land can sit while you travel. When your wanderlust calms down, you can move onto it.

First time watching your channel…personally I think land and homestead close to the sea …you look happy..when your around food..looks delicious
Wherever you settle, just give us more costal foraging on the channel. It's been too long. Love this kind of content. Keep at it.

Great video Taku & Jocelyn! You guys make me so hungry. I think I’ll head out to get some PEI muscles.
Thanks for sharing!!!
Nz sounds like it will be perfect for ur future plans, also the nz vids are awesome 😉
If you're thinking Washington, check out Eastern Washington...hot dry summers...Lots of bodies of water to fish (lakes, streams, rivers)...
Can't wait for the cookbook. I hope it contains pictures of you and Jocelyn's adventures when the recipe was created.

Yeah, I'm from Denmark, and follow you 2 guys, love your streams
Thanks for sharing. Welcome back. Love your adventures and challenges that you both endure
Chef, I love that backdrop during your coming session. Keep it going
Had to pause the video to go order the Spicy Kelp Chili Crisp. Can’t wait for it to get here 🔥 🔥 🔥
can’t wait for your cookbook. homestead would be nice. i love you travel videos in other countries but please don’t forget about California and Alaska! Japan videos are always cool. Just do the Van life and Travel do what makes you happy Know we’ll always be here to support your UA-cam channel!
Southern Oregon is great Ashland/Medford area so rich and near everything you could ever want.
Oh yeah Taku Tuesday. You guys are gonna have to do another joint video with NWFS.
some opt for a sail boat for long term living. worth looking into, given how much you guys love fishing and travel. a sailboat is basically a moving apartment.
Manitoba
Oh and once you complete the cook book I will most definitely buy and share but also try to get others to buy it to help support the channel.
If people want that cutting board, which I think is one of the best next to layered bamboo, look up sushi cutting board. The run about $120 but are worth the investment.
Great Stuff, I remember when you started 5 yrs ago :) Enjoy the Ride !!!!
Live aboard boat is what you two need One you can travel with your home
You will no doubt hit a mil love enjoy watching you guys. I hope bright moments are in you future 💙🩷
Loved the dessert segment from Jocelyn!! Excited for whatever you two do next! ❤
You're definitely right. The system is entrapment.
If only I saw the this receipt a couple weeks ago I would’ve gone and grabbed some mussels great dish !
you are the only person i know , that actually enjoys that bean stuff
Do it Taku!! We believe in you
Buying land is a huge commitment. If you want to travel extensively I would personally do that before. But yall do you!! Would also love to see some south/central American content. Maybe Costa Rica?!? Im sure yall will crush whatever you do next though 🎉🎉
Great scenery great food and great drink ! Living blessed guys!!
looking forward for your book. There's a lot of fishing & japanese culinary enthusiasts like me
You two are such a good vibe!
Would love to see some more Australia content as one of your aussie viewers! Victoria is an absolute must see and If you would like some suggestions:
There's the Great Ocean Road which is a 243km long road, stretching from Torquay to Allansford that literally winds around the southern coast of Australia with a large part of it chiseled into the cliff faces way up high.
Perhaps You and Jocelyn could start a Japanese Mexican fusion restaurant in New Zealand!!!….love your content guys all the best for the future 👌🏽
His girl is mexican?
@madili_02c56 cmon you should know this by now lol
That's why I went to WA -- I could actually buy property there. As for the gloomyness, you could be on the east side where you get 4 seasons. Also, power is cheap so running heat lamps, UV lights, etc. is more doable up here. Just my observations.
Be careful which state you pick if you want to buy land. Here in OR they just past a law that basically makes small farms and livestock growing operations illegal. They say it's to protect groundwater but I'm more inclined to think the grocery/big Agra lobby wants to me us more dependent on them and their products.
They really hating on people for trying to be independent.
