I hope that at company meetings or whatever that you get to read some of the comments people leave, because these craftsmen deserve the praise and admiration for the skills and talents they’ve clearly honed over years of work.
To think these old worn out boots could be resurrected from the condition they were in is a testament to the skill of those building them and the passion for the quality of work and materials you’ve put into these boots for decades.
I also think it’s cool that they’re being re sewn by possibly the same machines that stitched them together in the first place!
Amazing work, Nick’s!

Yeah but it isn't 1920....just buy new ones
Those boots are an important part of someone's life. Now, they are ready for whatever the day brings. This is why we buy good boots.
I’m 73 now but watching these craftsmen do their work still fascinates me to this day. I’ve worked with my hands most of my life and I was trained but men like this and to me they are more important than scientists. No offense to scientists
Verdammt noch mal 30 Jahre !!! 30 Carl 30!! Meister!!gut gemacht 👍
Wow, quite the transformation...amazing. With the teardown and repair, I think this ended up taking more time and work than building a new pair for Nicks. Of course, if I owned the boots, the broken in uppers and history/memories attached to them makes the rebuild more than worth it. Hopefully, the owner will use the kilties this time.
The broken in leather is so important. I wore my wolverines for 2 1/2 years, bought a new pair last week and it has beat my feet up. It'll break in fairly quick in my line of work but dang it surely sucks.
The other thing you need to consider is that these boots can cost upwards of $750 USD. A rebuild is only a few hundred by comparison. What I'd like to know is how old are these boots?
Edit: I should have read the entire title. A 30 year old pair of boots. Being rebuilt for about $300USD. Show me any off the shelf boot that'll last that long!!!
I must add from my earlier comment.
Their is satisfaction in making the old new again. Maybe not cost efficient labor wise but just possessing the skills to do it because you can👍 Hats off to this shoe cobbler to have the skills to pay the bills. Awesome
Watching these videos makes me want to buy a pair of boots, and get a job working at this shop.
Wow the amount of screws and nails in that boot you could build a small house. The thickness of the leather that some quality material and craftsmanship
Great camera work
@9:26 The repair patch on the bottom of the tongue (the "instep") was beautiful. Amazing restoration overall.
Yeah, I loved that little patch, too. Really makes it unique. Wish they had shown it at the end so I could see it in context.
You just KNOW that was a weld turd that did that Oh my, and laced into your boots!
This is why my next pair of boots are coming from Nick's boots. Pacific Northwest supporter and and Danners are garage. I'm all in for Nick's
I enjoyed every minute watching this, from taking them apart to rebuilding to the machines used, true skill of old school workmanship 😎
I hope I live long enough to be able too buy a pair of Nick's boots. I'll never buy another pair of Danners ever!
With such an extensive refurbishment, I find it hard to believe that once they’re back together that any comfort benefit of them having been worn in by the wearer will be the same as before.
Then you understand nothing about boots.
@@Totemparadox …..I don’t have to have extensive experience with the refurbishment of high-end, hand made boots to have SOME Understanding of boots in general. I’ve worn all manner of decent quality work boots, pretty much every day for the past 30 years. I am quite familiar with characteristics of wear and aging regarding boots. So thank you…. Mr. Knowitall. The fact that I’ve never invested in boots expensive enough to warrant refurbishment is irrelevant. I was just expressing a doubt/question, as to the process in this video.
These boots may have been something that was passed down from one generation to another or even a keepsake to the actual wearer. No one knows at this point in time. As far as comfort, the upper should some ease in breaking in the vamp and counter support. From what I believe, these boots new are probably around $700-$900. By spending $200-$300 to rebuild these boots. A family heirloom may have been restored.
Very skilled, but I didn't understand why the old leather didn't get cleaned up and conditioned...
Perhaps it was the customer's preference 🤔
I was wondering the same thing. They should have re-dyed and conditioned the old leather. All that work, and it looks like shit.
A high level of craftsmanship
In my town, Honduras 🇭🇳 all shoes 👡 are handmade, very strong and durable, in the shoe shops the noise is the same as what you hear there.
Thanks for showing us
Nice we need more companies like that 👍 it an old craft you don't see any more
No AI or Machine can have such detailed craftsmanship..hope this gets passed on to the next generation
Happy 4th of July and God Bless America!!!
Great job 👍👏👏👏. But tell me those boots were, kind of, from the landings in Normandy to put such amount of work on them instead of making a new pair from scratch ...
Pretty incredible..makes me wish I didn't toss my old boots in garbage. Great vid
DUDE!!!!! YOURE D MAN...👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
so basically newly made boots incorporating some old parts
Exactly what I think, but didn't know how to say 🙂
They keep the upper, but replace the vamp sole and footbed because it's necessary.
These are a hard working rough and ready boot, the upper is still broken in and shaped to the owners ankle and calf.
No different than restoring a classic car that's a rusted out tub.
Yes. Rebuild not restore.
@@MRtwoTricks not really. Its like putting an old engine in a new car
Best boots
in America
This video is great for anxiety relief. Thankyou.
LIke bringing the dead back to life. Maybe even better than new.
First few mintuts i thought whats the point rebuilding that far gone boot. Getting closer to the end im like OK i wouldv done that too!
Beautiful craftsmanship!
Now thats dedication, both to the owner and the craftsman.
What is the point of repairing these boots in these conditions, I think just to show the skill of NICKS cobblers
The point is the uppers are usually still in usable shape because it's the least stressed part of the boot. Not having to break those in again is a big deal. Normally you'd get a rebuild every 2-3 resoles. If you cleaned and conditioned your boots as you should, the uppers would be in far better condition than with this pair.
The craftsmanship and skill on display from one station to the next is simply amazing. Well done, Nick’s.
Think it would be more worthy to buy a new pair.
But, If the owner wanted to rebuilt the old boots... Good work!
This is cheaper.
Had me a pair of them Wesco pole climbing boots. Sent them to Oregon after 25 years and had them refurbed. Cost me more for refurb and shipping than when I first bought them. Damn fine boots. Glad to retire and throw them away.
crazy work
I love your videos and I'm not even a shoe enthusiast, but more of a craftsmanship enthusiast
Lot of hard work. Dedicated trades people..
At this point, you might as well made NEW boots. But very nice quality work.!
Omg! I have that same pair of boots here..that is amazing what you can do with those old boots.
Absolutely beautiful this is truly a dying craft I have so much respect for these people
Excellent commentary... 😞💤 I haven't had a good nap in a while...
Extraordinary craftsmanship..
Congratulations!!! Beaultiful Jon!!!
Artists at work!
Felicidades.❤❤❤⭐⭐⭐👍👍👍
The reason you want to rebuild is they take so long to get worn in, once you have an upper that is good. You hang onto that for as long as possible.
I was going to ask why rebuild as it looks like they put in just as much effort and material as a new pair. But thanks for the answer.
After this rebuild they'll have to be broken in again.
So its because the upper is in tune with the owner? I ask because I can't help but think a new pair of Georgia's or such would be cheaper in the long run...
@@The_Osprey The lower part and the sole bed will, yes, but the uppers won't.
Great work keep it up 👍👏
That was truly awesome and inspirational. New found respect for these craftsman and the boots I wear..
I see no reason to do this but for sentimental value. I enjoy your videos.
This job is just a awesome song.
A masterpiece
EXCELLENT VIDEO 👍
So simple so easy 😀
Man ! Those look to good to work in !
Well done friends. I hope to buy a pair soon. Peace from Asheville, NC!
Trabalho incrível!! Parabéns. Helcio - Curitiba - Brazil . 11/07/2022
Holy crap… I had combats boots that were 5-6 years old that weren’t that wasted
I have a set of Georgia's I got 20 years ago that are about there... I guess.. since they were a gift from my parents RIP that yeah. a rebuild would be cool...
What an interesting craftsmanship, I am impressed!
Y do i get the feeling that he's done this B 4 ?? 👍👍👍
Outstanding Craftsmanship, Kudos!~
I need a pair of your boots
The patch was my favorite part
love those boots excellent work 👏
Fascinating!
French Mle 1965 combat boots are still the best boots in the world. still wearing daily, still look like brand new.
Amazing!
Good job 👍
Beautiful work. But honestly there's not much left of the old bootd
Yes. And? That's the point.
Would love to see a restoration done on my world War 2 cavalry boots.
Exelent work but I ask myself, isn't it cheaper to buy new boots?
Very impressive skills more boots shoes should be saved from landfill by fully restoring vs scrapping
I enjoy this video
I loved watching the process; very fascinating! My only question is, why? Why would a person want to do this, instead of just buying new boots? The uppers were the only thing kept, which is not the part that's hardest to break in. I'm confused...
Couldn’t agree with you more. It can’t be cost effective to replace all of that. I would prefer a whole new pair as to have a pair with uppers that are dried and are weathered. Loved watching the video though.
@@samuel1996BKK Hey, I completely understand. But, why would you rebuild the lowers and leave the old uppers? It doesn't make sense to me. Get them to make you a whole new pair of boots, if they're going to go that far.
@@AYZTyler Simple. The uppers are still intact and broken in so less break in. AND this is cheaper. $300 vs $550 for a new pair.
muy bonito trabajo!!!!
The boots of Theseus
Zapatero!!! 😲
Absolutely beautiful craftsmanship, I should know, my Right foot is a
8 1/2 and my Left is a 9 1/2 ..
Regular Width..
Born with a club foot .
Need my boot built up 1/2 " to 5/8"
My shoe Smith had to go to orthopedic School Just like an Orthopedic Surgen ..
Spend 12 hours a day on your feet 5 -6 days a week will beat a man down . If , I had the money, I would invest in a pair, what's the cost on repair as shown .. just wondering .
Thank you

Hey Dennis! The rebuild cost is $300
Good & saveing money too, best & experience working done
Náročná práca klobúk dole 👍
Excelente restauración. 👍👍👍👍
Wow amzing
Excelente 👏👏
I cannot imagine stepping on all those inverted nails... keep away leather boots from my feet, and we can be friends.
You're talking out your ass. We can't be friends.
Muito top.
Ficou muito massa.
Parabéns.
beautiful
EXCELENTE SERVIÇO PARABÉNS 👏👏👏
You used screws?! VERY COOL
Those boots were tore up, good job
what a good job those boots started off in bad shape holes in it caked with dirt i would have thought they were a lost cause lol
Why foam and not cork? When cork is the best you can use. I also didn't see a shank.
We use a leather Shank and a leather Midsole instead of cork. While cork is good, leather is much better because it can break in to the natural shape of your foot and be even more comfortable
They don't use foam. That's a rubber squeak pad.
Not trying to be a jerk or anything, but is it really worth all this effort to save these boots. They have quite clearly given the owner plenty of hard use... it just seems like a lot of work to bring them back vs just getting new boots.
Nice job! Does Nicks only rebuild and resole its own boots?
