  • March was... a month. I'm honestly embarrassed to share because we spent soooo much money and weren't even close to the goals we set this month. Ugh. Here's to a better April!

    You should check with Oregon and see if you can get a partial refund. They do that here in Nebraska

    We just went into escrow on our first house so while we saved a lot in March we’re going to be spending a lot this month and we have to increase our emergency fund because it doesn’t include what our new mortgage will be. It’s scary to spend so much money but exciting to finally get into a home

    When you talked about getting instant hot water it reminded me when we moved into our house in Phoenix in August we didn’t have our gas (what heats the water) on for a week and didn’t realize it because the water is that hot in the summer 😂

    There is nothing to be embarrassed by. We received an inheritance recently. If you saw how much we spent in the span of two months you would fall over. But we make smart decisions so we are okay with it.

    I know how you feel when your budgeted plans don’t go as you planned. It happens! We just got back from Disney World/Universal❤ and I budgeted $15K and in the end, it all came out to $14900 so I was super proud. Little things need to be celebrated! You still had a great month with fully funding your Roth as you had planned!

      wow, I am hoping you have a large family or really splurged because I am budgeting a lot less. I found a Costco travel deal for four night stay on Disney all star resort ( budget hotels), four day passes to the parks , and flights for 3K. We have only one kid. So we were budgeting 5k for the whole trip. I figure the package includes everything but food, souvenirs and miscellaneous Am I crazy here?

      @@princesskaitlinhazelwood4703 hi :) we're a family of 4, and that money included everything- flights, rental car, hotels (2 nights at Universal Loews hotel to take advantage of the express pass; 5 nights at Disney resort), admission tickets to both Universal and Disney, 5 days of Genie +'s, 5 days of Individual Lighting Lanes, food, souvenirs. I did a lot of research here on YT about dining reservations, etc. and I had dinner reservations each night so that was the main "expense" during the stay.

    Solar + smart thermostat has been one of the best ways I've found to save money on energy in AZ. Also do not skimp on the AC service or that will cost an arm and a leg 😂
    Activities wise: childrens museum is small and always busy. Better value for your money is the Wildlife World Zoo 👍
    That car registration is CRAZY high. Ive lived here 10 years and never seen/heard of one that high. I havent looked, but I wonder if there is new legislation on brand new cars?

    According to Jaimie Diamond interest rates are going up. Since gas has skyrocketed inflation will be raging again this summer. Expect prices on everything to go up. The Fed will have to choose to fight inflation or tackle higher unemployment. Either way it's a loose/loose situation. I'm not expecting interest rates to come down anytime soon. A .25 interest rate cut this year if they choose to cut but it's unlikely.
    Hopefully your husband company will not cut staff and if they do and he is planning to take a 3 month parental leave his productivity will be 0 for those 3 months and he could be on the chopping block again. Tread carefully.

    • @arthrodea
      @arthrodea Місяць тому +2

      Yes, although it’s technically illegal to fire someone for taking parental leave - don’t think employers don’t consider that and try to find another excuse to lay off someone if they think they can save on paying someone to not work. If they have two otherwise equal employees and they know one is planning on taking parental leave in 3 months, you better believe they would fire the one planning on taking leave.

    Once/ if you max out on medical, that is the time to schedule and take every medical test and procedure possible; and sensiible too. If you have January appointments or recommended January appointments, talk with your providers to see if they can be din5e that last week or so in December and still be valuable medically. If those end of December appointments are likely to involve a follow up blood test or other, see if your providers can order them soon enough to be taken before the end of the year.

      Some people do envelopes some do different types of checking/savings accounts. And you just slowly start putting in money when you can and just keep putting money in. Even if it’s 20 each pay check. Like a car- money for tires, oil change, maintenance, ect. If you have a hobby you can do that- say golfing money to go to a golf course or a driving range, etc. it’s basically so it’s not coming from your everyday checking that’s used for bills or groceries

    Do you not have life insurance on the boys?? I know it’s morbid but I have always kept $10,000 on all 4 of my kids since they were 2 weeks old. The last thing I want to think about if something happens to them is money! And we did the Gerber plan so once they turn 18 they will be fully paid for and they will always have $10k worth of life insurance…which is great if they ever get diagnosed with something in the future and it prevents them from getting insurance as an adult. We pay $21/month for 4 kids. I would definitely suggest everyone look into it!

    In January you mentioned you were able to buy down your interest rate for the first year to 5.6% and here you mentioned you are getting 6.625%?? I thought 6.625% kicked in after 1 year of payments?
    According to the Fed brace for higher interest rates for longer today. Interest rates are hovering around 7%.

    • @TheBudgetingWife
      @TheBudgetingWife  Місяць тому

      It’s 5.6% for the first year but will be 6.6% after the first year. That’s correct! Our true rate is the 6.6%.
      Yeah. We hope to refinance at some point in the next few years but didn’t go through with buying with the “hope” that we could refinance sooner. We know that a payment at 6.6% will still work with our budget but the 5.6% for now is nice to add a little cushion for other things in our budget. 😊
