Fran not having the pills for this "Happy, Cheerful and Joyful World of Sunshine and Rainbows" just makes me wonder how disturbing it will get once she has them.
Turning into a tree symbolizes the devs excuse to play as Mr. Midnight
About it all being in her mind: she found a note indicating that the doctor is using an experimental drug on her, and she had to be on the drug to sneak past the receptionist. So it probably isn't *just* in her mind.
Fallen London
I can't help, but feel constantly sad for this poor girl. I still wonder where she really is right now. Did she suffer from some kind of shock after getting through the sewer opening or did she collapse before even entering and that piece of shit guard found her and she's really just at the hospital having this horrible dream?
Five realities...hmm, I wonder if that's tied to the five stages of grief/death. Certainly getting a vibe of that if we take the asylum as denial (Fran refuses to believe what she sees of the place, and the pills help her to see what she believes is the truth that it's an evil place), the woods as anger (killing the beetle-pig for supposedly killing Mr. Midnight), the witch's house as bargaining (doing favors for the witch to rescue Mr. Midnight) and now this place as depression leading into acceptance (Fran becomes a tree because she's paralyzed by her belief that Aunt Grace won't save her and doesn't love her, thus she has nothing left to hope for. The creatures make her new form usable and show her that everything isn't as bad as it seems).
I'm probably going to end up being way off with this.
But I guess that's just a theory. A Brandon Theory! XD I'm sorry...
But I guess that's just a theory. A Brandon Theory! XD I'm sorry...
The becoming a tree signifies a transition to a vegetative mental state the people in the boat were the paramedics that came to resuscitate. The poking they do is how a cat would see them putting in IV. The cat says he can "tell they are trying to help" dogs often seem to do this. The king gives her seeds (pills/medicine irl) to resuscitate her and restore speech in the hospital. He is the attending doctor. The salamander cloud is the surgeon explaining how to the five realities are the 5 senses that the Amnesia will work on. His next statements are clearly about deep mental illness without hiding it.
_"Once you can't feel love, you die."_
Symbolism with Fran becoming a tree who could not initially move. Perhaps she was drugged or paralyzed with remorse or overwhelming fear of her past or her future. She may have been catatonic & unable to speak or move because of depression or PTSD. Part of her family tree but without "roots" because her parents are gone.
The game is now in a more pretty & strange fantasy world instead of a gruesome hospital. And perhaps is more true to its fantasy story roots - children with traumatic pasts or sadness that need resolution which can only be done when they find inner strength through understanding & love. And solving puzzles.
+NaturalFlirtGamer Don't varnish the plot with too much symbolism yet. I liked the black and blood imagery of the last parts. This part has too much sunshine for murders. I'd lmao if we find out her cat did the killings working with the Goat Guy.
I thought she was mutilated like the twins too, the seed that the king gave her is some sort of anesthesia before the doctor gave her new limbs or something. Maybe my theory is too literal.
+GreengoLight2 Since it's a young girl that went through a terrible trama, I imagine she romanticizes lots of things at this point. Although, if by chance she was the killer I expected her to see more hellish images forcing it's way into her fantasies. There that one with the mom, but felt more like the the demons trying to taunt and hurt Fran. It's hard to say for sure if Mr. Midnight is really there, or if it's just an extension of herself, because when she took her pills last episode he wasn't there.
circular7 I don't know if any of it's real. The cat could be her imaginary friend.
I think something happened with Fran's parents.. And I think Flirt's already guessed it talking about remorse. Still early yet.
+GreengoLight2 Dat cat did nothing! I don't think little Mr Midnight is real tho it is cute name for a "dead of night, witching hour" kitty. He is a wish fulfillment of friendship & love, which she doesn't feel. And yes, I think Fran could be the killer of her parents & that is what is causing her complete insanity, because even this sunshine-y place still has grotesque imagery. The doctor is ok, I think. But Fran is not responding to therapy & maybe sinking deeper into her own fantasies, more & more unable to accept reality. I don't know how the aunt fits in yet.
PS - weak "varnish" pun lol. I woodn't start with too many puns... I'll get board unless they are good ones. :D
Interestingly the names Kamalas and Valokas are similar to Finnish words kamala (=terrible, awful) and valo (=light). At first I thought it was just some weird coincidence but the creatures themselves represent the meanings of the words pretty accurately.
+Milo Ilo Valokas means "Very bright" and I believe the creators are Swedish.
Hahaha five years later America has a vice president named Kamala xD
@@derekdrake8706 that's what I thought too. Boy, is she living up to that name.
@@TheRealNormanBateskamala means lotus in my language tho
@@TheRealNormanBatesI looked for this comment lmao
The game becomes more peaceful, but the symbolism behind it gets darker. Fran may well die at the end of this journey.
H-hey, Manly... Try not to Splinter from the path. ;D
+lightobliven Wood you kindly lay off the forest'd humour.
+ManlyBadassHero Just trying to *branch* out, Manly. Would you rather we just *stick* to the same jokes? : )
+ManlyBadassHero i thought the library was a symbol for school, its closed in summer and spring. Like summer break and spring break, maybe thats what they were going for?
It's a hairy axolotl!
+Omnipenne Axolotl best creature.
+Trevor Juve Mudkips are based on Axolotl's... And i leik mudkipz.
yes yes it is
You could say she was LEAFing the tree place...
I'll just let myself out.
The word you're looking for is lobotomizing! from Lobotomy, the procedure
This game is so much more creative and interesting than Missfortune. Kind of depressing in hindsight. This team is very talented.
The only downside is the dialogue but at least here you can acctually do puzzles instead of being *handheld like a child*
So true
it's sad because at first the pills led her to another side of reality now the pills help her go back to reality. real,y depressing stuff
palontras reminds me of the dragon of spirited away and the cursed form of Howl ('s moving castle)
"i might be getting a woody"😂 good one XD
Getting a Sanitarium vibe from the game since you keep traveling to different 'worlds'. Very lovely so far.
YESSSS!!! ITS DOES REMIND ME SO MUCH OF CORALINE!!!
3:06 it symbolizes that this is a fantasy story for audience enjoyment
in this episode fran em"bark"s on a new journey :D
sorry not sorry
this was a gift thank you
welcome :)
When you were talking to the lord of trees I think I heard a faint silent hill theme.
The changing of seasons reminds me of Eversion and I don't know why.
2:30 "You're a tree, Fran!" "How did I get like this?"
"I don't know.. I'm pretty stumped."
11:55 I believe it is an Axolotl.
16:48 Itherstanise? I'm thinking "ether" like the drug used to knock you out before an operation, and anesthetize. Could this be Fran dreaming while being operated on? 17:43 hmm... the land could be up in the air because Fran is hooked up to an oxygen machine (the pinwheels) giving her _air._
Right on the money dude.....I was getting a Coraline vibe from the first video on. Especially once the maze started. Great call! Amazing game too! It's getting so that your's is the only channel I want to watch for gaming. I sincerely enjoy the way you play games and your commentary.
44:13 OMG spirited away reference!
Spoilers: Fran is Groot.
God fucking dammit. WHY.
+Gamez Because I enjoy the suffering of others.
o_o
I love this chapter! Such a besutiful place!!~
Was waiting for this all day. T_T
I wonder if Manly played Alice Madness Returns ? I imagine he would love it
You play some freaky/creepy stuff, but I enjoy the videos.
Plot twist, there is no symbolism, she is actually in another reality
That's it. That's the game.
Correct!
'You can't leave know, you're a fucking tree' pFFT-
Maybe the tree is like a straight jacket? Just a trunk,
I was about to go to bed nut i saw this.....Welp ... Who needs sleep !? Got to watch this ! Sleep is not important!
I love this game
The becoming a tree signifies a transition to a vegetative mental state the people in the boat were the paramedics that came to resuscitate. Fran is quite the pro to catch a fish with no bait.
The game kinda reminds me of the movie sucker punch, in that this is all her last moments before she is lobotomized.
At this point I suspect the aunt killed the parents and let the blame fall on Fran so she could adopt her while escaping any prison time.
+circular7 Really? I was suspecting that Fran killed them.
I honestly think that having Fran or her Aunt be the murderer is too.... Simple? To predictable? I think it may be Mr. Midnight, whom isn't a cat at all... But perhaps something more... Sinister? Neutral evil? But, to block out any tainted imagery or the possibly the "real" identity of the murderer, Mr. Midnight took on the friendly appearance of a cat in her mind? Hell, he might literally symbolize midnight, if time were to come into play.
Then again.... My gut is telling me that Fran's parents aren't dead. I can't explaining my reasoning at current, but the whole situation just doesn't feel right...
But eh, we'll find out soon enough what's going on.
Super Lame Butt I kind of thought of Mr. Midnight being the killer too, but i dismissed it because he's a cat. I didn't think of him not actually being a cat, but it certainly sounds plausible now that you mention it.
For a game like Fran Bow, I think at most, Fran is the most "real" thing in the game. In my own speculation, IF we are currently "in her mind," then there would be no way for "her cat" to be there and not symbolize anything.
Plus, when Fran and Mr. Midnight talk atop the mountain, I think that's some pretty heavy foreshadowing...
Super Lame Butt Oh, i just noticed your avatar is lapis lazuli. Steven universe is awesome.
..... I want to be like garnet......
I'm starting to miss pills now
wow i actually was able to read all the comments on your vid... nowadays its impossible
Why do I have a feeling that Fran may be responsible for her parents death. And she's blocking it out, so her mind is replacing that awful memory with a monster. She thinks a monster killed her parents but what if it was her!?!
And a few characters already have said that she isn't ready to hear the truth
omg a giant furry flying axolotl thing
Someone must have been really high on drugs to come up with this story!
Game theory should do a vid on this game
YESS
+Fxllen Reaper Request it.
I'm scared so I'm in blanket
I finnish the game. And the action its very real, it;s not in her head. It;s a combination of misticism, buddism
What did he say at 25:10 ???
sometimes there is no symbolism when your a kid your mind is a lot diffrent plus i do not think those drugs make her just see things that are in her mind
+Alex Layne i could be completly wrong tho
Nah, you right. There's plenty of hints that everything is real. And it's even confirmed in Little Misfortune. People just like to look at a fantastical story and despite it already being in the context of fiction decide it's all in the main characters head.
Don't know why. It's such a lazy trope and it brushes aside all the lore and world building the work set up. It's infuriating that people love the 'its all in their head' theory for EVERYTHING. God, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, people.
soooo uh .....none of those creatures had nothing to say about the gold ghost walking around wearing the head of one of their own.
watching people start from middle and losing is so frustrating. the correct play has been found ages ago
Hey i'm "Woody"-howdy howdy howdy.
Allen😂
What the heck
Your a wizard Harry
08:02
So the remote is like the pills
I want no monsters that are evil
I still don't know why he killed her parents
17:59 Fran: What stones?
Thanos: The Infinity Stones
Fran tell them about your parents
Foooood
it was at this chapter i stopped playing
this isnt scary anymore its just silly
I still don't really like the pills because scary
Fyy
Manly, your not very good at theory's. That's ok though
