I can't believe somebody would shoot my hyper aggressive friend who kept insisting on murdering them foregoing all morals and common sense just to do so. Who could have foreseen this tragedy?
yeah, but think about it? Three people died in probably only 3 weeks (based off of the level of skelly decomposition), and they seem PRETTY insistent on not sitting in the back, on the outside. This means, that the nocturnals, or whatever, must be fast, emit some kind of neurotoxin, a hivemind, or worse.
@@SurfyplayzRebooted even then. Someone can sit on another person's lap. It might be kind of uncomfortable. But it works. Are they really going to leave the guy for dead because it would be slightly more convenient.
@@SurfyplayzRebooted I have thought about it and concluded that the truck would simply not be secure enough even on the inside, so speed wouldn't matter as much as where they should stop and they were still outnumbering him. Whatever threat you think nocturnals can do, staying inside the fortified building was just as bad if not more deadly than moving away.
While the choices in Telltale games don't have any effect on the ending they usually change how the story progresses. For example: In Telltale Walking Dead Season 1 your relationship with Kenny can either be extremely negative or extremely positive. The final outcome for Kenny or Lee doesn't change due to that but the dialogues between those 2 character throughout the entire game usually do change. You get different viewpoints on different situations depending on the choices you make. And yes, those situations are always the same, but the different viewpoints are interesting enough to justify replays. This demo didn't even do that. Sure, it's just a demo, but demos are meant to showcase what the final product has to offer. So, if we judge it as a preview to the full product...this wasn't really that good. I wouldn't want to spent money on this.
Because telltale choices matter only in npc relationships to you and some minor dialogue call backs. Never main story. Everything else is just spice and flavour.
"you come into our home, steal our things" Lady. He even called out to try and get your attention. Also them shooting out the tire is dumb - they *need* that truck... I mean unless they have spares.
And the reason for not have protagonist come with them is the truck being two seater... A truck, which you can just stuff a bunch of people on the back with.
I think it makes MORE sense for the tire to get shot if you kill Maggie, because at that point I'm sure she'd be more concerned about Ted not escaping. Maggie on the other hand is just an idiot that is 100% written for you to hate and for her to die later.
Yeah, I said the same thing, like, why the hell will you shoot the tire after Ted is long gone? You might as well let him leave seeing how he surviving just like them She decides to make his life living hell by doing that 🙄
@@nokina3To repeat, definitely to make us hate the character, and while the outcome would have been the same, they could have given Maggies character a little more intelligence, by making her NOT shoot the tire and making the tire give out another way. Bad axle? Old, worn police spike trap? Even if it had been a very pointy stick to begin with, (which would have been silly) it could have been changed to something that'd make more sense later. Honestly, even giving us a scene of her aiming down sight, but instead of hitting Ted she hits the tire, maybe because Mia messes up her shot somehow, since she was against killing Ted. From the little exposure there was, she seemed to be more reasonable, despite trying to steal the truck, so I want to believe that'd work. BUT it is also possible that having Maggie shoot out the tire is meant to put a rift between the duo, both for ruining the truck and also needlessly injuring Ted.

Maybe not a clinical psychopath, but definitely not someone "willing to survive at any cost". She's willing to straight-up kill the MC without even the fig leaf her friend wants to put over the situation by just leaving him to certain death and advocates repeatedly to have him killed in cold blood. That's above and beyond what survival required in those situations. She also grabs the gun from her friend to shoot out his tire. That was simple, murderous spite because she made the truck useless to herself and her friend, too. She wasn't trying to survive at that point. She just wanted to hurt the MC for daring to... Im baffled by these girls' utter lack of people skills. You told this guy you need his truck cause there is monsters but he cant come along. It does take a psycho analyst to tell you that he is never going to comply with your demands which is essentially a death sentence
Yeah, not a fan of that. If you give a choice between death (being left behind and being killed by the nocturnals) and possible death (have a fight and possibly flee since you still have the keys), anyone will choose possible death. It really makes no sense that they'd assume he'd just give up his keys.

Yeah, Mia, you're not making yourself likable here and you're a lot better off without Maggie. The last thing the apocalypse needs is more people who enjoy killing running around. Hi! Just wanted to clarify at the start of the game you are given the option of challenging quick time events or simple ones, also there is just me making this game so i would love to hear any other suggestions or feedback as it will help improve my game! :)
Already can tell there’s going to be issues with this game. You told Mia you’re alone originally and you get lectured. You replayed it and told her you’re with a group but get lectured again. I hate that in games when it forces it on you.
I think it would be better if you told the truth and she responded "That was stupid on your part but I appreciate honestly" and maybe it would be easier to negotiate
@@realdragon I think that would be better. It comes down to a character should have a “consistent” character regardless of your choice. I also find it odd that both women are crackshots with the rifle and would’ve shot her rifle the exact same way… it’s the same issues telltale had.
It's not the same outcome though. If you tell the truth she thinks you're naive but knows you do tell the truth, and if you lie she knows you're not naive but you're not to be trusted. It has difference on what she thinks of you and therefore the chemistry between the two characters.
If the devs ever read this comment section, here's a very important aspect to improve: add a tutorial to QTEs. A moment where you need to do the same kind of mouse movements you do during QTEs, but with no repercussions. A good example of other games implementing QTE tutorials would be until dawn. The first chapter starts with you having a "press the correct button" tutorial (you have to climb a wall, if you fail you can retry), then you get a "stand still" tutorial, then a shooting tutorial. These not only help the player familiarize with the game's controls, but will also set the mood and give the player some expectations of what they will find during life and death situations. When those situations come, the game needs to give players the feeling that they lost because they didn't react fast enough, not because they didn't know the controls. You can see how lost Manly is at around 9:17. If we got a tutorial where the player, for example, does something like wiping some dust off a car window (like we see during the intro, 1:00), following the same square pattern used during the car jack and car keys sequence, then the player would feel way less lost. This game looks very promising, and I'm looking forward to the full release!
Do you really think sitting in the back of a pickup truck will protect you from whatever singlehandedly caused an apocalypse? Sitting in the back is a solution for leaving, but in the long run, everyone will be worse off.
@@username_pending1328 like what's even the point of shooting at the truck unless you mean to shoot the guy's head?? Now no one can use it. Idiot. Well to be fair, from Mia's note on the grave outside it looks like their group were betrayed and robbed pretty recently. So they have a good reason not to trust strangers. This feels less like a Telltale game and gives off a vibe more like that weird experimental game Facade. The janky spritework, the weird line delivery that doesn't seem to be quite natural to the situations...
The graphics and artstyle reminds me of those old-school point-and-click adventure games that ran on Adobe Flash, but modernised with 3D movement. I am really digging this. Looking forward to see the full game.
Basically: - the characters are voiced by young/inexperienced people, so they aren't able to give convincing performances that one would expect from career professionals (ex: Troy Baker, Richard Epcar, Patrick Seitz, Laura Bailey, Tara Strong, etc.) - the developer(s) didn't have a massive budget to work with, so they're working with cheap materials and inadequate recording environments (probably working with about $200 worth of audio equipment in an non-soundproofed bedroom, rather than a recording booth with $200,000+ worth of equipment)
This art style reminds me of THOSE mobile games, you know, super simple with a bit clunky animations. But I'll wait for this game with hope. Liked the idea, voice acting, movement mechanics. It's nice.

Like I get them distrusting the MC given what the note says, but she’s literally homicidal. Meanwhile the two white ones are both a lot calmer, the woman saying she doesn’t want to kill him as he’s a kid and the kid being able to be completely pacifist and just run, *while said Black character is chasing him down to murder him.* It just reads as insensitive and ignorant when you think about it for a second. That’s all to say, I hope she doesn’t end up being the first to die too. That would be a lot of racial stereotypes.

I do love this, I like the fact that it's got choices and I think it has a lot of potential...but I DO have some notes for the Dev if they're willing to hear them because I think it will 100% help the game and the story. -First of all, your choices should 100% effect the outcome of the story of the game. Especially in a rewarding fashion: Like if you spare Maggie, when she grabs the gun from Mia, she misses the shots (which would explain why Mia has the gun instead of her) It also makes it feel like your choices genuinely matter as opposed to just being deceptively relevant. -I really, REALLY hate the "There's only enough room for one of us" mindset that most postapocalyptic stories have. Especially when it's obviously not necessary considering the fact that it's a PICK UP TRUCK! Like, at least change the dialogue around and have them debate whether or not they could afford to have an extra mouth to feed instead of relying on the lack of space in the vehicle. -FOLLOW through on the choices, If you chose to "Give them the keys" then let that be a death animation on its own, like they leave you behind and when the sun sets, you have the player be lunged at by something, this will both fulfill the implied threat of the "Nocturnal" and also emphasize that you can't give up the keys. If nothing else, at least you give them less of a reason to let you die and cause even more internal strife within the group, maybe Maggie and Mia fight at that point because Maggie wants to leave but Mia refuses to let the player die because of how willing he was to comply and because of that, Mia betrays Maggie after realizing what kind of person she is -Please don't make the quick time events difficult to do, it looks like it's a real bastard to do some of them and I already hate that. I know you're trying to go for immersion, but c'mon, there's a fine line between realism and being unnecessarily difficult, especially for an action as simple as turning a crank or starting a car. There's more, but those are the surface level obvious that I'm really hoping we don't see in the final cut of the game.
Hi I’m the dev here! Thank you so much for this feedback, I really appreciate you taking the time to write your thoughts, I’ll clarify firstly that the choices in this demo do 100% matter and end up being some of the most important choices in the game (without spoiling anything). Also there’s a system in the background that is scoring every choice you make and putting your play through into a warmth/competence grid, these means that even one small choice could change the ending and the way characters perceive you in the final product. The demo here unfortunately feels linear, I’m aware - but it’s because it’s the first 10 minutes of the game and needs to setup the main story between Ted and Diego. As for QuickTime events, you are prompted when you start the game whether you want to play with simplified QuickTime events or challenging, manly has picked challenging - but you’re right in that it could definitely do with some tweaking, so thanks very much! I’d love to add extra variations like going away with Mia and Maggie, but I’m only one person and also the story is about Ted and Diego, so if he never ended up meeting him in a play through it wouldn’t be what was advertised. I agree with you that the whole “we can’t fit in the truck” excuse isn’t well written, I wrote the script for this game when I was 18 and had no experience - I would love to go back and rework things but it would definitely push the release date back by months. Please feel free to offer any other suggestions, feedback is very important to me and I try and utilise it as much as possible
@@m_axj Awesome, thank you so much for responding (I honestly didn't expect that) That's 100% fair, I'm down with a linear demo so long as the game itself is still heavily choice based, though I am VERY curious to see what a "Nocturnal" is and what threat it provides if even one of them is enough to discourage people to stay in an area rather than fight it head on. I do like that your actions make characters see you in a different light and I'm hoping Mia's confliction path clashes with Maggie's rather cruel and aggressive path. I AM surprised the Demo didn't end with Diego and Ted meeting (or even just looking at each other for the first time). If you don't mind me asking, how soon will the two meet in the actual story? And NEVER feel rushed about a release date, if you want to go back and rewrite some things or change some stuff, no one will hold it against you. Those that rush are the same type to complain about the results and are clearly not aware enough to understand why art takes time. So push it back as far as you need, I wanna see what you can create without time limits. (Crunch and commentary are usually the killers of quality) I will 100% let you know if I have any ideas and anything that else I wanna add, but for now I just wanna thank you for your response and being understanding. (Also, if you want me to help write or voice a character, I'd be 100% down, I *LOVE* creating stories and trying new concepts and this feels like it'd be an awesome one to explore and work on.)
@@m_axj Also, I'm REALLY excited and curious to see what's happening with the world. Is it a global thing or just regional? What are "Nocturnals" and are they intelligent like Vampires or is it exclusively an issue of strength and/or speed? As long as it doesn't spoil the story, can you tell me what Nocturnals are, what damage they've done to the world and what kind of enemy are they? I am very much interested! (But if it DOES spoil the story, then I'm 100% down on waiting until the official release of the game, just lemme know so I can be patient.)

Concept of time zones if foreign, to an average American. Most of em are kids anyways. Who else would flex this hard, over being awake past their bedtime?
If you shoot maggie they should have made it so you just get away, since mia isn't a murderer. So she would have less experience with shooting. Meanwhile maggie is eager to shoot anyone or anything for any reason. Doesn't make sense for mia to become deadshot just because you shot her friend. If anything she should be in complete shock, seeing her friend shot in the face, since shes "not a murderer". She seemed more rational. I understand why the knife wielding psycho would shoot the tire, but mia, she should have realized that it's maggies fault that the whole situation went south and just accepted defeat. She knows its a kid, and that it wasn't his fault, so why not just let the kid go? So at least someone survives. Guess it was too much work for the devs to make more of the game. Maybe full release will be different
I don't know man, I know it's just a demo but ehhh. The death scenes are so goofy in such a way that they remind me of that ol' SCP animation series with the immortal guy, which is pretty jarring and feels out of place with what I assume is supposed to be a decently serious horror story. It has a pretty authentic telltale choice system, which is very subjective if that's a pro or con. The first person part of it is pretty interesting and cool. The story is a bit confusing for me. I don't get why one of em' couldn't just sit in the bed of the truck if they didn't want to sardine together in the cab, even though craming two people into the passenger seat is already such a stretch of an issue to explain why they couldn't just leave together and the girls "had" to leave him for dead or thwack him themselves. The sharing food justification was a tad more understandable though. It's odd how the two antagonists seem like absolute killing machines with that Garand, but who knows how long this apocalypse has been going on for them to sharpen their skills. Overall, pretty neat but it has a decent amount of off putting characteristics. 👍

I'd have liked to see more than one true consequence, but it is a short demo; presumably you'd see more in the full game where your relationship with Mia would matter more. Maggie's probably doomed though considering just how early she can die. I do wish we got to see the monster though, just to get a good idea of what we're up against.

The developers were really selfless here. They wanted to end quicktime events so they made theirs so bad that the industry would look at it and go, "We went too far. We should've never invented this mechanic. From now on, no more quicktime events."
5:20 So far I love this game, but unrelated to that the paper on the top left says there’s a “meteor deflection”. That makes me wonder if that was what happened that caused the current apocalypse, maybe the meteor was headed towards earth, and either the deflection failed or debris from the meteor fell on earth anyway. Also, the kid Izzy’s drawing shows a creature on it that I assume is a Nocturnal. I wonder what happened to her, the corkboard states the camera is hers (it says Izzy, and the adults are all named). Meaning she was there recently, but there’s no grave for her and she’s not with Mia and Maggie. I wonder if she’s with the group who stole their stuff and fled. It would explain the ripped photo, too. Yeah I went back and the photo on the ground is of Izzy and Cara. Presumably Cara did something, either stole their supplies or also made it possible for the Nocturnal to get in… which is how Millie, Ethan, and Alfie all died. And whenever Cara and Izzy left, it must have been in a hurry, because Izzy’s tiger plushie is still there.
I already don't like it because whatever you do, the protagonist still leaves the fuel behind like a dumbass, still doesn't shoot both of them when he has a chance, and still happens to get stabbed in the kidney with some stupid thing anyways

When you read the letter in the back of the store, it clarifies that the people Mia's group had with them took all their stuff and ran off. This is a very good reason for them to come up with any excuse to not have The protagonist join them, however the whole "there's only two seats" doesn't give that sense. If they said "Oh yeah? How do we know you aren't gonna fuck us over when we make you sit in the back?" Or "We've been burned before - we're not getting burned again. You're not coming with us." Or even "Kid, one day you're gonna have to learn like the rest of us that there's no trusting a stranger. Now give us the keys." (hinting to how Mia thinks of him as naive) Besides, once they know he has a gun, there's no way they'd want to share a ride with him. Just a simple change of dialogue that will make it more believable, without changing the trajectory of the game.

Not to mention the wacky mouse quick time events (no one likes quick time events) The game devs tried to cook, however they burnt down the kitchen in the process.
people are ragging on this game already, which is a bummer since it seems to be just one guy making this. it's not perfect, but overall I do like the idea. I'm curious what exactly the Nocturnals are, it's stated that there's just one and that's enough for people to need to flee town so I'm assuming they're insanely strong. some criticism I can think of is that the choices should probably matter more, this is a demo so I can't quite judge what will and won't make a difference yet, but just thought it was a good idea to mention. and I do somewhat agree with the comments, the three could definitely fit in the truck. it does make some sense since the two are confirmed to have trust issues due to a past incident, but they don't mention that as a reason why they distrust the kid so it sort of feels odd. overall, game definitely has potential, reminds me of those old Newgrounds flash games which I LOVE, it just needs some brushing up
@@far2ezThey can still improve though. That's why constructive criticism is necessary. But ragging on isn't the same as giving them constructive criticism. The characters feel like they're trying to be whole humans, but they're flat... And I mean literally flat. They have Human voices, and realistic human expressions, but on top of their bodies... TWD really made it work with 3D models, and then the comic book style slapped on top of it. Trying the other way around really makes it feel like South Park in some spots. Little things have been pointed out -- like how the QTE's seem sort of broken ((according to the dev there's an option for this, so I won't be harsh.)) that QTE in the car where if you don't get it, you're shot right away, and if you do get it, you get a few more subsequent key turns in the ignition. Plus, the fact that the girls need the truck, and yet shoot out the wheel. Not to mention, what got me the most was.... Most of this Demo feels like Cutscene. You get the introductory one, then you get some basic exploring around a small furniture store -- and some of the outside, where the MC Ted stops you because he 'doesn't want to get lost' -- and a small pin pad puzzle, and then you talk to people and have a scene where you leave. You could beat the demo in about 5 minutes, and that's speedrunning through the dialogue section. I know Demos aren't meant to be long, and it is quite the accomplishment to get even something like this out! But let me tell you, people these days aren't really sitting there feeling "oh man, the ending has me hooked, I'm going to be impatient and hype for the full release!" so much as they're going to think "this was maybe 10 minutes worth of content, in a nearly 20 minute video. I barely know anything about the game. I'm gonna go watch something else and forget about this." And does that suck? Yes! But what also sucks, is thinking "okay, maybe this will be interesting, I'm excited to see how the relationships and story develops..." And then getting hit with "Watch for the full release!" after FINALLY getting to what felt like the meat of the story! This Demo is empty, and it works against the game in a sense. If the Demo had more actual stuff packed into it, people wouldn't be pointing out things like the hard QTE's, and how the voice actor for Ted sounds a little stilted. Not to mention, I am a little fearful of the writing aspect of this. Seeing as, I feel like that one girl who comes after you is quite clearly going to be a Jane type character, and her friend Mia is obviously the love interest for Ted. Not that I think the girls will have even the biggest impact on game in the end, seeing as the Steam store description, and all other pictures for the game, say it's story about Ted and this boy named Diego, with what might by some gay undertones to it all based on the Prom thing. I really want to try and give the Dev slack for the fact that none of the options matter in the Demo though. Sneaking in, or shooting out the door. Threatening, or telling the truth. The same result happens. You're chased out, and they shoot out the wheel to the car. But... That's supposed to be the hook, right? I just... After looking at the Steam store for this game, I really don't know man. The TellTale style was always "your dialogue choices affect other dialogue choices, but not much else, you're always getting the same ending." And that's what everybody really did not like about the TellTale style in the end. Unless the full game shows that somehow Mia's perceptions of Ted as either naive or a liar actually affect his character in the long run, being able to "transfer your save" to the full game will have.... Little to no bearing other than skipping, what? A few empty minutes of gameplay? If the girls don't end up important in the long run, the way you spoke to them won't matter. If you shot at that girl, it won't matter. If you really want the TellTale style, the one decision that felt monumental -- despite affecting nothing at all -- was the Stranger. The fact that a small decision on whether or not you steal from him, came back to you later? It was incredible at the time! Learning that he comes after you whether or not you do, and there's no way to avoid that, is a lot less incredible. Having your game advertised as a "choose your own adventure" or "telltale style" game can really bite you, if your Demo has one set path to an end. The fact that you can make a game is monumental on its own, and I want to give the Dev the benefit of the doubt -- since if the stuff I mentioned above is all wrong, and the girls do have a concrete effect on the story in the long run, that would be great! But I beg of you.... Literally, I am begging. Do not make your "choose your own adventure" type game have one ending, and all the others be deaths. And if that IS the style you want to go for -- because many "CYOA" books/games do just have multiple death states and one 'true' end -- you'll need to make sure to be clearer, otherwise people will walk into your game with some high hopes for a story that will let their choices make an impact and get an ending based on how they play, and then they will walk out talking about how the TellTale games sucked for their lack of actually important decisions. ((Other than "appeal to/befriend Kenny" or "don't do that." but that's a whole other can of worms)) Speaking of "story" and all, the writing is a bit... Meh. We can talk about how Ted's audio is a bit awkward, but the fact that the girls don't actually consider a compromise for a truck...? TWD has the game start off with a character who couldn't sit in the truck because it was a two-seater with just enough room for Clementine. Chet was his name! All he did was hop in the trunk. Even if the girls simply relegated Ted to being in the trunk, or forced him to squeeze into the middle, or just sit on each other's lap, obviously they're desperate enough to get out of there that it might just be worth it? If living is a safety risk because you're in an apocalypse, you can't be afraid of a little reckless driving now guys. Especially since if your true danger is a giant vampiric zombie beast, that favors the night and dark places, driving through the day to get out of the place where you KNOW one of those monsters is at is the most logical decision. No matter if its the girls, or Ted sitting in the trunk/driving, or if they're all squeezed into the cab. Even if the girls had their trust broken earlier that day, an Honest Ted, who is willing to give up the keys, should maybe have the ability to persuade said girls by pulling the "I'm just a lone kid out here, c'mon guys there's a monster" card. Then there's the crash... I have to put it like this. The only scenario that makes sense for them to shoot out the wheel, is Mia doing it for revenge. I understand Maggie -- just remembered she had a name -- seems a bit like the Lily character for the game so far, but if they need it, and I mean REALLY need that truck... There are better ways to go about it, like... I don't know, finding a compromise with the kid who owned the truck, who was also scared and alone. If you simply needed Ted to get into a car crash, there were definitely better ways to get him to that point by the end of the story, especially having the antagonist of the demo BE one of the Nocturnal! Have it occur during the night instead or something, I don't know. The fact that it would be a simple rewrite does make me want to believe that Maggie and Mia -- or at least Mia -- will have an impact on the story at some point, but I'm begging the Dev not to do that thing TT did with Doug/Carley AND Tripp/Ava, and have whoever you chose simply die an unavoidable death soon after. From a writing standpoint, I know it's easier, but it always made the decision feel, like all others in the game, pointless. -- PS: Another note because of the style, I don't mean any harshness to the artist who drew everything, but the 2D paper-ish style of the characters really make everything feel like it doesn't have a lot of impact? Like, when that girl grabs Ted's leg as he's crawling through the fence, and Ted looks like he feels pinned to the ground, I really couldn't see it, it looked like she had just placed her hand on his leg. Adding on, the eyes are really... Empty? If that's the word. They sometimes stare awkwardly into the camera because of the angle of it -- not the fault of the artist I feel -- but even when they're looking at other characters, or objects, they always feel like they're staring into the middle distance, empty. I'm not sure how to phrase it, so I won't attempt to fudge my thoughts into a youtube comment, only to have it come out wrong in the end, but I feel like other people will understand what I mean.
@@windflier1684 it's probably embarrassing, but I put it into google doc to see the word count, and it's nearly 2k. about 1.7k I think...? Lets just say I watched Pewdiepie's first playthrough of the walking dead when he was uploading it, and I've been rewatching a bunch of other lets plays recently, so... It's a game I'm super interested in. Anything that sounds remotely similar to it just gets my brain ready to make a really long ass comment about the topic. Mostly because there was so much potential in TWD, and... GAH, I still rail against it in my mind!!
I know it’s not safe but one person could ride in the back of the truck and the other two in the front seats. Who ever rides in back would be exposed to the elements and have a bumpy ride but they would leave altogether.
yeah, but think about it? an entire country died off in about three weeks (based off of the level of skelly decomposition), and they seem PRETTY insistent on not sitting in the back, on the outside. This means, that the nocturnals, or whatever, must be fast, emit some kind of neurotoxin, a hivemind, or worse. would you want to sit outside of safety within the range of something that singlehandedly started an apocalypse?
@@SurfyplayzRebooted I’d rather sit in the back of a truck that can leave the city than be forced to walk around in that city with the terrible thing. Also nocturnal makes me think the monster only comes out at night, so as long as you aren’t stopped in the middle of town at night you can probably park and hide somewhere.
Brother, all can ride on the front seats. The driver is alone, the other two can sit on one seat. One is on the seat, the other sits on them. I have literally did that a long time ago after a party.
The fact that she was mad that Ted would want to defend himself from two people trying to rob him and murder him.And they say that he cane and stole from them when if they heard him call, which was how they ambushed him, they just ignored him to rob him of his car yet wanna play victim, don't feel sorry for them at all. Also the artstyle reminds me of soithpark Abit with the animation movements, the qte could be a little simpler since it seems a little jankey but i honestly am interested to see the rest
I think the game would do well to rebrand itself as a point and click adventure game rather than a Telltale game. Still kind of a stigma around those titles. Art style definitely looks like Facade/South Park, it looks kind of charming in the cutscenes, but definitely doesn't translate well to the gameplay. Always interested in seeing how Post-Apocalypse games try and differentiate themselves from the typical nuclear/zombie apocalypse. The voice acting is a bit stilted, but it's passable for what I assume is a small indie project. If they're going to have QTEs, I would just do them the traditional way, the mouse dragging looks like it's awful. Only other real criticism I have is that I look at Ted and see Logan Paul, not entirely the developers fault, maybe if they changed his hair style it would help. All in all, there's potential here.
I'm not sure YT has ever before made me laugh my head off for seventeen minutes virtually without pause for breath. I had really stopped expecting much from the platform. Thank you so much -- this was hilarious!!!!
my god, the game may even be interesting in its final product but these two girls already made me change my mind about buying it, they could be a little smarter and a bit less violent without reason
I don't mean to punch down on small indie devs, but writing like this is why post-apoc stories tend to be my least favorite. Why shoot the glass? There's broken asphalt and debris everywhere, and it should take no effort to get through a glass door. In the route in which Ted draws his gun and they know he's armed, why does she still chase him with a knife and then acts surprised when she gets shot? Does she not know how guns work? Why escape to the truck when it was out of gas and he wouldn't get very far? Why are they running after the truck and shooting into it like Fallout bandits? Nobody in this demo is acting like a real person. This feels like yet another post-apoc story that is going to rely heavily on nobody having problem solving skills.
I kind of wish the quicktime animations were more fluid and interactive feeling, like the one where your leg gets grabbed crawling through the hole in the fence feels super weird and delayed. Constant movement would go a long way
I figured out why the tire of the truck gets shot at no matter whether you shoot maggie or not. If you shoot maggie, then mia doesn't really care about the truck anymore, and only cares for revenge, so she does everything in her power to prevent you from getting away. But if you don't shoot her and maggie is the one shooting, she just simply misses when going for your head, and the bullet just shoots the tire instead. Easy.
I'm really hyped for this game because of the setting and choice based game The main criticism i have for this game are -how the game react to the choices the player have made. After 4 games from telltale, i'm tired of playing the same game that promise story affected choice -better dialogue between the character and about the world. The problem with the space of the pickuo truck could be avoided by having a better dialogue that explain the danger of sitting in the bed of the truck something like "The truck have a large bed, we could put someone there" "And get mauled by the nocturnals?" -implement a better mechanic and how to teach it to the player. The problem with qte is that the player have no way of expecting qte to come out. Me as a player don't want to be suprised by a mechanic that haven't been explained. So to fix the problem is to add qte in a small scale first something like wiping the window on the car with the skeleton That's all i can say about making the game better, i don't want to be heard as a pretentious know it all i really just want to help the dev any way i could because im really excited to play this game and to explore the world of this game
Interesting demo, but they missed an opportunity in not showing anything about the Nocturnals other than the bloody handprints. Showing off a unique monster would make the demo super memorable- even if it was just foreshadowing, like a silhouette or maybe one of the kids drawings.
I wonder where the hell they got a Garand. Since all of their stuff got stolen and the only gun that they apparently had from the photos was an Ak that Ethan was holding. Also it's very weird that the Garand is being treated like a bolt action. Since they fiddle with it after missing like they're working a bolt when it shouldn't act like that. The Garand was a literal game changer in a war full of bolt actions. I gotta wonder if the Garand was chosen by the dev without knowing that it's a semi automatic and not a bolt.
@@wilhelmvoidwalker4810 Any idea on what rifle they wanted to represent? Or they just googled "bolt action rifle" and ran with the first avalaible option? Besides, someone must make a point&click adventure game where the guns would get different functionalities based on the caliber, sorta like a more advanced version of Deja Vu for the Macintosh. Lastly, untrained minds tend to get creative when handling stuff. I'm surprised she was even able to land a hit that way.
Every plothole or contradiction I thought of >Needs truck yet will still shoot out tire >No space because it's a two seater yet theres an entire back of the truck free(Also room for food rations) >Hestitates to kill but absolutely will the moment an escape attempt is made >And is also fine leaving him for dead if there's an escape plan for them >They'll die if they stay there yet are found staying in an abandon building >Guys calls out before taking fuel yet is shamed for being a theif Also, every qte failure results in death, which wouldn't be a bad thing if it wasn't for the fact one requires you to start the car twice and failing the first one results in your but succeeding requires a second start which doesn't make sense as you would still be shot Lastly, no matter what decisions you make the ending is practically the same This game could be really good but the writing is really lacking, and if this is going to be more of a telltale game that's a major issue

And in true telltale fashion, not a single choice changes the final outcome, not even in the demo
Amen
Because telltale choices matter only in npc relationships to you and some minor dialogue call backs. Never main story. Everything else is just spice and flavour.

Soap Drama writing before logical actions always prevail 😂
also they started it, you don't get to cry vengeance.
And the reason for not have protagonist come with them is the truck being two seater... A truck, which you can just stuff a bunch of people on the back with.

I was thinking the same thing. Now nobody can use the truck! You're all going to die. 😆
You might as well let him leave seeing how he surviving just like them
She decides to make his life living hell by doing that 🙄
Just lazy writing tbh
I would love if there was option to deal with it peacefully, maybe it would be harder to achieve for example and require right responses

- the characters are voiced by young/inexperienced people, so they aren't able to give convincing performances that one would expect from career professionals
(ex: Troy Baker, Richard Epcar, Patrick Seitz, Laura Bailey, Tara Strong, etc.)
- the developer(s) didn't have a massive budget to work with, so they're working with cheap materials and inadequate recording environments

If nothing else, at least you give them less of a reason to let you die and cause even more internal strife within the group, maybe Maggie and Mia fight at that point because Maggie wants to leave but Mia refuses to let the player die because of how willing he was to comply and because of that, Mia betrays Maggie after realizing what kind of person she is
-Please don't make the quick time events difficult to do, it looks like it's a real bastard to do some of them and I already hate that.
Thank you so much for this feedback, I really appreciate you taking the time to write your thoughts,
I’ll clarify firstly that the choices in this demo do 100% matter and end up being some of the most important choices in the game (without spoiling anything).
@@m_axj Awesome, thank you so much for responding (I honestly didn't expect that)
That's 100% fair, I'm down with a linear demo so long as the game itself is still heavily choice based, though I am VERY curious to see what a "Nocturnal" is and what threat it provides if even one of them is enough to discourage people to stay in an area rather than fight it head on.
(Crunch and commentary are usually the killers of quality)
I will 100% let you know if I have any ideas and anything that else I wanna add, but for now I just wanna thank you for your response and being understanding.

i was not expecting the deaths to be that brutal lol
The developers were really selfless here. They wanted to end quicktime events so they made theirs so bad that the industry would look at it and go, "We went too far. We should've never invented this mechanic. From now on, no more quicktime events."
I have watched many of your horror videos over the years and this is the only one that genuinely upsets me.

How do we know you aren't gonna fuck us over when we make you sit in the back?"
Or "We've been burned before - we're not getting burned again. You're not coming with us."
Or even "Kid, one day you're gonna have to learn like the rest of us that there's no trusting a stranger. Now give us the keys." (hinting to how Mia thinks of him as naive)
Besides, once they know he has a gun, there's no way they'd want to share a ride with him.
Just a simple change of dialogue that will make it more believable, without changing the trajectory of the game.

>pops up only as kid is "stealing" supplies from you
>"I dont want to shoot a kid!" they say as they demand the keys to the only thing that can save all 3 of their lives
>"its only a 2 seater!" they say after literally just suggesting a plan that would let all 3 of them escape alive, while also neglecting that one could also just ride in the bed of the truck until night time.
Not to mention the wacky mouse quick time events (no one likes quick time events)
The game devs tried to cook, however they burnt down the kitchen in the process.
All valid criticisms, but cut the demo a bit of slack. After all, the game was made by one person.
people are ragging on this game already, which is a bummer since it seems to be just one guy making this. it's not perfect, but overall I do like the idea.

There are so many things that could be said about this Demo, and while the really rude comments definitely suck for the Dev to see -- since I've noticed them in the comments -- I feel it still has to be said... This game is kind of just... Clunky as it is right now. I'll tell you, I 100% expected this to be a point and click type exploration game, and I can't say I enjoy it more with the 2D in 3D space.
Wow, that's a long write up, prop to you
@@windflier1684 it's probably embarrassing, but I put it into google doc to see the word count, and it's nearly 2k. about 1.7k I think...? Lets just say I watched Pewdiepie's first playthrough of the walking dead when he was uploading it, and I've been rewatching a bunch of other lets plays recently, so... It's a game I'm super interested in. Anything that sounds remotely similar to it just gets my brain ready to make a really long ass comment about the topic. Mostly because there was so much potential in TWD, and... GAH, I still rail against it in my mind!!
I ain't reading all at
I haven't even begun reading it and I already feel like you inserted multiple tangents.

The face Maggie makes at 15:09 is hilarious!
*meep* *meep* *meep* as you're dying lmao 😂
Fun fact! The dev behind this game is a popular scratch coder, who mqde a very popular series called "scratching dawn" based of untill dawn.

It’s ok Manly, he’s just sleeping :D
my god, the game may even be interesting in its final product but these two girls already made me change my mind about buying it, they could be a little smarter and a bit less violent without reason
This feels like yet another post-apoc story that is going to rely heavily on nobody having problem solving skills.
the artstyle reminds of me of those weird storytime animations
I like it. It gives the game it's own feel and style, unlike all those games that try to look photorealistic and just end up looking bland and samey.
I kind of wish the quicktime animations were more fluid and interactive feeling, like the one where your leg gets grabbed crawling through the hole in the fence feels super weird and delayed. Constant movement would go a long way
Also, some of the voice acting kind of feels like they're trying hard not be loud, even when Ted is actively falling and surprised.
Player: We can leave together
Game: no, you can't choose that
I figured out why the tire of the truck gets shot at no matter whether you shoot maggie or not.
Easy.
From plot armor to lucky convenience accident.
I'm really hyped for this game because of the setting and choice based game
The main criticism i have for this game are
-how the game react to the choices the player have made. After 4 games from telltale, i'm tired of playing the same game that promise story affected choice
-better dialogue between the character and about the world. The problem with the space of the pickuo truck could be avoided by having a better dialogue that explain the danger of sitting in the bed of the truck something like
"The truck have a large bed, we could put someone there"
"And get mauled by the nocturnals?"
-implement a better mechanic and how to teach it to the player. The problem with qte is that the player have no way of expecting qte to come out. Me as a player don't want to be suprised by a mechanic that haven't been explained. So to fix the problem is to add qte in a small scale first something like wiping the window on the car with the skeleton
That's all i can say about making the game better, i don't want to be heard as a pretentious know it all i really just want to help the dev any way i could because im really excited to play this game and to explore the world of this game
5:48 ah yes one of manly's most used quote
Interesting demo, but they missed an opportunity in not showing anything about the Nocturnals other than the bloody handprints. Showing off a unique monster would make the demo super memorable- even if it was just foreshadowing, like a silhouette or maybe one of the kids drawings.
It is in one of the drawings
The English accent at 1:53 took my by surprise
I wonder where the hell they got a Garand. Since all of their stuff got stolen and the only gun that they apparently had from the photos was an Ak that Ethan was holding. Also it's very weird that the Garand is being treated like a bolt action. Since they fiddle with it after missing like they're working a bolt when it shouldn't act like that. The Garand was a literal game changer in a war full of bolt actions. I gotta wonder if the Garand was chosen by the dev without knowing that it's a semi automatic and not a bolt.
Or maybe they wanted to use somthing more akin to an Enfield, but couldn't get a better reference material.
@@unimportantcommenter4356 It gets so much worse when you look at how they shoot that rifle. Look at how she holds it when she goes to shoot the tire.
@@unimportantcommenter4356 If I was to guess, I'd say something like a Winchester Model 70.
My guess relies mostly on the butt stock since it seems to have some kind of pad.
Every plothole or contradiction I thought of
>Needs truck yet will still shoot out tire
>No space because it's a two seater yet theres an entire back of the truck free(Also room for food rations)
>Hestitates to kill but absolutely will the moment an escape attempt is made
>And is also fine leaving him for dead if there's an escape plan for them
>They'll die if they stay there yet are found staying in an abandon building
>Guys calls out before taking fuel yet is shamed for being a theif
Also, every qte failure results in death, which wouldn't be a bad thing if it wasn't for the fact one requires you to start the car twice and failing the first one results in your but succeeding requires a second start which doesn't make sense as you would still be shot
Lastly, no matter what decisions you make the ending is practically the same
This game could be really good but the writing is really lacking, and if this is going to be more of a telltale game that's a major issue
Even the camera pan at the beginning was like TWD
EARLY GANG! Love your voice manly! Your calm demeaner makes these scary games so relaxing for me XD
The animations of this game remind me of Facade.
Manly is so cool
They’ve released the full version! I can’t wait to see you play it!
I love the idea of indie devs taking the tell tales ideas to life in their own way.. cause god knows tell tales hates us and joined the dark side
Even the logic the characters go through feels like it was by TellTale, for better or worse.
