He was mentally broken beyond repair and nobody realized until he was beyond saving Thats why i like the final season, it shows that sometimes, you are too late to help someone, all you can do is hope, it feels oddly... satisfying to know media is acknowledging this fact us humans seem to ignore

Yes but there were the seeds that time when eren kills mikasas would be rapists and denies their humanity (they are not humans but monsters). That happened before the destruction of shinganshina. I wouldn’t say eren was beyond “saving” but beyond redemption. The natural path was for him to choose his revenge over his friends. Isayama chickened out with the ending at the last minute, that’s why it doesn’t make sense
I don’t understand sometimes why people hate Eren he literally seen the future but no matter what he did the outcome would be the same if he didn’t do what he did
Eren didnt have control over his future because he refused to steer from his path of striving for freedom. You can’t will what you will. Thats a natural instinct. But Eren could’ve steered from this path at any moment and changed the future that way, he just couldn’t bring himself to
@@sinesjoe Yes, and why did he keep moving forward? Not simply because it’s Mikasa’s choice in the end, but because of multiple other factors, like civilization levels, how they’ll be viewed, how much peacetime will be given, Eren’s desire to see a deserted world, all of that is what made Eren continue. He did it for himself and his loved ones, a selfish goal. Sure, it was Mikasas choice he worked towards, but it wasn’t his motivation to get there. His mom’s death, protecting those he loved, that was his goal.
@@WhiteCollar-p5z no sir, you are correct grishas final memories Eren saw that day when he kissed historia's hand did kinda fuck him up but it wasn't fully that, Eren wanted to do the rumbling because he had a selfish outlook on what freedom ment and freedom meant having his friends live long lives as well as saving eldia
@@domcantbestopped nah i doubt that , its just that the future was inevitable since the past had already happened . eren's freedom was never a part of this . he followed a path that was already defined but it was defined by him and he couldn't change his choices .. it is pretty obvious that future eren manipulated past eren as well so as to get the results . In S4 he never was selfish nor selfless , all i see in S4 is a dead shell with no past no future . just a slave to his own will already written by him .
@@domcantbestopped also i think all the inner conflict and other character developments Eren already had between S4 and S3 which makes sense since we weren't ever shown that part of the story . By S4 he already gave up trying to change anything .I think it's a great character development in its own way *a guy with no character* However i don't like how 98% fandom oversimplifies his character
@skyistaken1605 Eren is evil af but hes kind of valid since the rest of the world destroyed paradis and all of the eldians only 100+ years after the rumbling anyway. Prob wouldnt have happened if he went 100% instead of 80 💀. It rly was be a good person and let your whole aah race get killed or kill literally the whole rest of the world. His "half measure" didnt rly work out.
People who think eren was a villain or hero still don’t get the point. The situation was rigged where not everyone could win. There are really only 3-4 options paradis can take. 1. Lay down and die as the world kills them. Never use the Titan powers at all. This is what the marleyans suggested because they believed this all started because the ancient eldians, and the only way to truly end the conflict was to just kill them off and take the founders power. Obviously it’s genocide and not a great idea. 2. Release a partial rumbling, destroying the world military alliance, buying Paradis 50 or so years of peace. This is what Armin & the military wanted to do. This option would’ve guaranteed peace in the short term, but the eldians would still be locked on their island. Along with that, due to the curse of Ymir, Historia would need to be turned into a Titan, and someone would have had to eat Eren as to keep the founder. This plan is essentially just kicking the can down the road until the outside world developed technology that could counter the rumbling, or successfully infiltrated the island and took the founder. So it achieves a good peace, but at the cost of Eren, Historia, many others, and likely only buys a limited amount of time. 3. Use the founders power to take away eldians ability to have children. Eventually, destroying bloodlessly. This one is Zeke and Yelenas plan. Again this one sounds nice, and it does bring a definite end to the conflict, but it does have its costs. The eldians are still basically removed from their world, and a bloodless genocide is still a genocide. They’re stripped of their rights to have famalies because the outside world hates them. While you can view it as a peaceful death, it’s also the eldians lying down and taking their genocide as they become older. There’s also no assurance Marley doesn’t just invade once everyone’s old and the population is diminished. 4. Wipe the slate clean. Eliminate the world, and leave on Eldians. A full scale rumbling. This is equally genocide as #1, even on a larger scale. This is eren and Flochs solution. No peaceful genocide of his people. No kicking the can down the road. The problem of eldians being viewed as monsters ends as there’s no one left to view them as such. #1 is right from a strictly Marleyan perspective. #4 is right from a strictly Eldian perspective. 2 & 3 lie somewhere in the middle. They all involve a great deal of problems. No solution is good. Eren himself points out he chose to not think about it, and just end the conflict. Now a secret 5th option does sorta exist. 5. Begin a full scale rumbling, destroying almost the entire world, but allow some few to live on, where they can’t retaliate against Paradis. This is a mix of #4 & #2. It’s kicking the can down the road, but also fixing the power imbalance between Paradis and the world. It also bears much of #4s genocide. This was erens real choice. There’s more to it, like making his friends hero’s of the world, but that’s more personal.
Omg you are so real for this. I'm so happy you pointed all these facts out. Cause so people watch snk but didn't understand the the plot, that's why they out here judging Eren
I like your breakdown a lot. But understandably a lot of people are mad at the not-at-all foreshadowed "secret fifth option" Eren goes with in 139. It's probably Isayama's weakest written section of the story.
@@captainbumbum5795 It wouldn't because the story tells us Marley is interested in Paradis for it's wealth of untapped and unique titan-derived natural resources. Getting rid of the titan powers means Marley has no reason to keep Eldians as weapons of war, AND has even more reason to rush to Paradis for its resources since it's titan-based military might would vanish overnight. Those in the camps would die, and the island would be stripped of it's biggest trump card.
@@captainbumbum5795 Because that also removes their only way of fighting back. Marley also wanted to conquer paradis for other reasons, specifically the crystals the ODM gas was made from. By destroying 80% the world, eren gave Paradis enough time to catch up. If he had just removed Titan powers the world would’ve likely invaded paradis now that they were substantially weaker.
Those people who didn't like the ending or the whole thing about Eren becoming like this - they simply didn't get anything from this story. They didn't realize all the important things, reasonings etc. Because if you understand the story and you carefully think about it then you understand why everything ended exactly how it did. Everybody's choices, actions and words led to this exact result. So it's not fault of one specific person.
People miss the fact that even by Iseiyama standards Eren is not the villain by the end. It requires a lot of paying attention to what we see from the start of the series, but ultimately Eren was still both a hero and villain at the end. He accomplished his real goals, trusted his friends, stayed true to himself, and paved the way for a world of potential equality, and while it's nuanced, we still see hope for peace in the end. Eren achieved all his goals, even if one of them(the attack on oppressors) was left open to resistance for the sake of the longevity and trust of his friends.(Cus lets not forget, if eren succeded Jaeggerist would still be back in paradis killing each other and probably Eren's friends for treason.) (Even that last page shows a huge contrast from how Ymir got her powers, she wanted to survive and was chased by hounds, the kid in the final page is exploring alongside a dog. The kid resembles more of a scout. The will to keep pushing forward despite causlties, and that message is taken to it's natural extreme with Eren, wich brings about both the worst of such a message as well as the best of it, but paving the way towards a clear solution: stop eren, the now personification of war, the owner of titan power, and by extention, stop ymir's curse; made all the more garanteed by doing so in the hands of someone who has every reason to love/understand Eren and not wanna sacrifice him. Ensuring Ymir would stop fighting aswell and relinquish the immortal nature of her 'Paths'.)
@@SpikeTheWolf watchman made everyone target Dr.manhatham so as to have a common enemy and make him leave earth so that is "guaranteed" peace. This is very different, Eren is not a genius, and he is taking away the titan problem that plagues the Eldians so that his friends have the hero status to negotiate- there's no guarantee it'll work, he dies and so he can't see beyond his death what happens, meaning he puts his trust in the scout regiment (akin to the lesson they try teach Eren against the female titan the first time they encounter her). Eren is also specifically targeting everyone else, not Paradis. This still gives Paradis the issue of jaeggerists, who are still a problem but will keep things at a stalemate long enough for his friends to still have leverage and live long enough for a peaceful death. War is _still_ an issue, unlike watchman, it's not a straightforward solution with a straightforward outcome. The compromise Iseiyama makes with the last page is a final message of hope, one that you can only catch if you have a grasp on what the scouts represent and the hope that pushes them forward. There may be a new form of power system that is founded by that kid, but unlike Yimir, this kid is not running away from death with a desire to survive, this kid may bring about a power that better ensures emphasis on life and peace. Unlike watchman, we don't know(at least not unless Iseiyama makes a sequel/spinoff series of the new world). We are forced to imagine the outcome based on what message we have learned or glanced from the series up to that point as well as what we see/discern from that last image. Watchman is ultimately cynical, AoT is ultimately hopeful. Adrian sacrificed Dr.Manhathan and destroyed the idea of heroes (gambled his life), Eren Sacrificed himself and created heroes (trusted his friends to do the rest). The two couldn't be further apart other then the idea of taking out innocent people for peace and allowing for the in-fighting/killings in their groups(warshak being killed by dr.manhattam), but the way they go about it and the messages they convey with the tragedy of war are almost completely opposite(Zack Snyder glorified the heroes while the comic book didn't , AoT is very clear with it's nuance of scouts being "heroes" and also "monsters" due to the bigger problem of "war". "War" and the history that traps/fallows it's victims from ever escaping it is the problem of AoT, personified with Titans. The American iconography of unchecked heroes with superpowers that tell comfortable stories is the problem of watchman because it is a direct criticism of the Marvel/DC concepts.)
"If I could change anything, I would gladly give my life as many times as necessary" Eren's thoughts, just before he kissed Historia's hand, and got spoiled with the future
Same how mikasa was going though what a pain she go in life with out eren. It sad. And miss up. But at less mikasa did not marry anyone before she died when with eren in the after life.😭
I’m starting to realize how good shows get called “bad endings” when it’s just kids who want to see a happy ending. The ending was great and in my opinion could have been better. It was too on the nose that eren wanted his friends to kill him and be seen as heroes by the rest of the world. Still tho it was a great show through and through
Personally I would've gone with Armin's solution of partial rumbling, destroying all military basis and ending the titan curse so everyone's equally screwed for the next 100 years or so
That would have required Eren to trust his friends to do well without him once he is gone (ie: militarize paradis to on par with other nations AND look for peaceful solutions). And Eren has been punished every time he trusted others instead of doing it himself. He trusted the levi squad to attack the female titan without him, and it got them killed. He had to trust Hannes to fight the Dina Fritz titan since Eren could not transform, and Hannes died. He trusted Armin in his plan to let go of the colossal titan before burning to death, and he died. The partial rumbling was the better plan, but Eren would never have chosen it with those past experiences. He would want to take care of the problem himself, as he is too traumatized to entrust things to others.
@@stefvanroey8191 No no, I mean what *I,* a passive viewer who hasn't experience the events of the story first hand, would do. If I walked on Eren's shoes for a day I'd probably went crazy genocidal maniac as well.
Unfortunately Armin's plan was heavily flawed. First things first, the titan curse would've not ended. For that to happen they would need to kill the Founding Titan worm. And we know how much it took for that to happen. Secondly, destroying all military with a partial rumbling would've bought some time, that's true, but it would've not changed the situation they were in. The world would still hate them and they would have to live on the island in fear of another attack. Eren and friends would've died passing down their titans and the cycle would've continued exactly the same. And this is accounting for Zeke's help in activating a partial rumbling, to which he was against as he had other plans, and after which he would've refused to further cooperate. Armin's plan would've been good in a world where hatred and racism are not as rooted as they actually are. As seen even at the end when the marleyan soldiers turned against eldians, not even from Paradis, TWO times.
@@guilhermeteodosio40 that won't have worked because eren wanted long term freedom, by having partial rumbling, the freedom he would've got wouldn't have lasted very wrong
he could have marched the wall titans to the edge of Marley and essentially displayed his power and told them that if they had so much as breath aggressively, he would wipe them out. Marlians would know that they would have no recourse, and that would have created a minimum of 100 years of peace if they passed the founding titan down very methodically.
That would only work until technology advanced enough to take out the titans, which would only by them a couple decades. And the tian curse would still be a thing. Eren wanted level the playing field so Edians at least had a chance.
It wouldnt work at all though because willy was aware of the farce of fritz rumbling retaliation and chose to hide the truth from the people. YET THEY STILL TRIED to infiltrate paradise to gain the founder. Willy and the Tyburs weren't really at the helm of decision making for Marley but they most likely ENCOURAGED the retaking of the founder in some way. It would only be a matter of time before Marley calls the eldians out and then the rumbling once again becomes the resort to saving the island.
The thing AOT does best is showing all the layers of motivation for each character, like the layers of an onion. The outer layers are not necessarily false or fake. Eren has many layers, on the surface he's motivated by revenge for his mother, a layer beyond that he's motivated by his pride and dignity as a human to seek freedom. There's another layer he shares with Armin which is a curiosity for the outside world. Then there's a cynical "law of the jungle" mentality layer, where Eren accepts nobody is at fault, and everyone is justified in moving towards their selfish ends. Then theres the more childish "all or nothing" mentality; Like a child who has been wronged and wishes everyone who wronged him would just disappear. It's too hard to be responsible, to hard to think about complicated ethical problems, too hard to take a more pragmatic or reconciliatory approach when dealing with the outer world, it was easier when the enemies were titans, so I think it's likely Eren chose to think less in that moment and make the problem simpler for himself, "They wronged us so we fight back", which leads to his extreme actions.
Everyone who disagrees with Eren does so saying, " Genocide is bad." But offer up no other solutions that truly fix the problem. The only way for the conflict in the world of Aot to end would be for either Marley to commit genocide on the Eldians or what Eren did. Either way its genocide, so why do you hate eren for making sure his side is the victor? It just sounds like you would rather the eldians get wiped out. No matter which side you pick, you are either directly or indirectly supporting the genoicide of one side of the conflict. No one is willing to acknowledge that and just want to feel morally superior by saying eren is wrong and to stop thinking about it. And Armins plan would have have only delayed the inevitable for a few decades.
So many people miss this simple point. The world-wide hatred was there, generational hatred passed down for centuries from parents-to-children. Armin's noble intentions to "talk it out" was NOT going to happen. Paradis didn't have the power, the strength, to hold off the WORLD conventionally, they just had one massive FAFO nuke in the power of the Wall Titans and the Rumbling.
If Eren hadn't committed genocide, Paradis would use the Rumbling as a threat if they were attacked, just like it is in the real world with nuclear bombs. But it wasn't a guaranteed way to resolve the conflict like the genocide was, so Eren didn't want to go through with that plan. que
@@milla3165 The reason he didn't go with that option is because technology was on pace to be more powerful than the titans. A couple more decades and the Rumbling would likely have been ineffective. Eren didn't want to just buy time, he wanted a permanent solution. At least long enough for his friends to live out the rest of their lives worry free, which he accomplished. And going that route would not have gotten rid of the titan curse.
It was an alright ending but there a lot of issues I had with it...just to name a few........ Mikasa suddenly becoming important at the end of the story Mikasa -ymir parallel is just too forced..your telling me that ymir didn't find anyone who who killed their beloved person in 2000 years?? Huge plot armour...so Levi survived a point blank explosion and just lost a few fingers? Also the alliance literally got minimal injuries against what seems to be a looot of transfotmed titans How can eren be remotely close to King fritz? That have nothing in common...but I guess it was enough for ymir Also aren't Ackermans immune to founders Powers so how did that Cabin scene happen?? Was it a dream also floch surviving what seems to be a whole day while dangling on the boat and same with Mikasa who I guess travelled thousands of kilometers while carrying eren Don't get me wrong I love this series....But people who say this is perfect are just delusional
I'm not disappoint. Isayama did a marvellous job in aot. Eren did what he had to. That boy was just 10 when he saw his mom die, he lost so many people only to find he's one of the reasons people are dying. Can you imagine his mental stress. More than anyone in the world, he must be hating himself, torturing himself for the sake of his people. All he wanted was to breath freely.
It’s funny people act like aot didn’t have a happy ending, nobody died against the main villain and lived happy lives. That’s sounds like a shonen ending to me
My issue is that Eren's plan is just so stupid. Sure he saved most of his friends but traumatized them so much just to get there. Yeah i get war was inevitable but he chose to hetray his friends turn their loved ones into Titans force them to kill their comrades. He really thought all that was better than accepting his friends' deaths
Even though Eren felt quilty about it cuz of all the people he had to kill, this was the only way for his friends to live and have long lives and for Paradis to also survive. Letting them die would be so anticlimactic lol
How is it stupid, “betraying his friends” was just making them the heroes and taking the titan curse away from them. He knew he was gonna die and his time was limited so why he selfish and let your friend suffer when you can “betray” them and finally free them from oppression
@@SpikeTheWolfBecause he needed a reason for revenge. He was the one that killed his mother with the titan power. He needed his heart to hate marleans and the rest of the world to be sure his revenge would be justified.
Eren was looking for other solutions in the past 4 years but only Yelena gave him the other solution (euthanasia) and he doesn't like that, he also asked Hange about the other solution she has but she can't give him the answer, she doesn't have one, there are only 2 option that he has which was the future memory or Yelena's
Epictetus was a slave and he find peace, Eren is just a entitled narcissist, he does not listen to any posible solution from anyone, he character was a complete villian.
People didn’t have a problem because of the Rumbling. They had a problem with the revealed ‘true’ reason why Eren did it, and the fact that an 80% Rumbling was ultimately pointless.
Orrrr. What if he got rid of the Titans and made every Eldian an Ackerman? No 13 year limit, no giant monsters for the world to hate and fear but Eldians could fight and win their freedom from Marley and end their warmongering.
Even though I disagree with Eren's decision, I agree it's the most realistic ending. If you could end the world with a single thought like the Founding can, the world would hate you and your people, living in a constant state of war untill one side wins (eldians × the world)
The moment it explained what the curse of Ymir was sort of hinted at the inevitability of him dying. If he must die --- why not save his people from the outside world that wants them dead just for existing? Make no mistake --- genocide is wrong --- however, the island overall WANTED PEACE. The world wanted them dead! The WORLD! The ONLY ones who sided with them were Mikasa's CLAN (not country) and then the "brave volunteers" were technically slaves from Marley, so it's not like Onyankapon's nation was with them either. (sorry if I butcher spelling). They had 3 options: Suffer harsh genocide from the enemy, genocide of your own people through euthanization plan, or destroy the world who always has & will hate your existence. Everyone knows the rumbling as a one sided merciless slaughter --- but the biggest irony is Tybur declared war on the island alongside asking the other nations leaders to help him. They declared war and got decimated, Eren just finished what THEY started AGAIN (not even factoring the warriors going to steal the founder). Had he said "PLEASE make peace with the island, we're in this situation because of my family conspiring with the king of the island. If we go to war and he unleashes the colossal titans in the walls, everyone dies. Please put aside our differences and make peace with the enemy." Eren wouldn't have done it. He was looking for any other outcome basically up until that point.
Honestly, I watch Eren’s mom get eaten and comrades die time after time. Then when he goes on a rampage to save only life within the walls I 100% understand and would prob do the same. To beat psychopaths u have to be ruthless. You lived alone within the walls all your life and that’s all you’ll need
Pat! Have you heard about the father daughter incest/murder case? Names are Steven Walter Pladl and Katie Rose Fusco Pladl. I would like to see your about this case next hang out. It’s unbelievable crazy and I can’t believe some of the adults
Lets be real, if you truly understand the series and everythings going on you would realize that the world is the one force Eren. Eren spend so long among the outside world society but what he saw is hopelessness. That scene where Eren apologise to the kid just show that he has no other choice but he knows that hes the only one could do It
Eren is a villain straight up. That’s the role he choose. Yes it was for a “greater good” he’s not anti anything though. He’s a villain who made sure he earn that place in hell. Really hard to justify genocide.
How do people not realize we got the "happy ending?" Every time someone has a complaint about the ending, they get attacked with the "you expected a happy ending" line, but we literally got the happiest ending possible with what was at stake. The ending could have been a lot darker. Nobody of the "Titan Avengers" died besides Hange. Eren was remembered fondly by everyone, Paradis was safe for the remainder of all the characters' lives and several generations after. Mikasa and gang were allowed to live with the Jaegerists on their island despite beheading Eren and die of old age with complete freedom. All the main characters got a happy ending. I'm not saying it was a bad or a good ending, I just wish people would stop acting like this wasn't a happy ending, all things considered.
Most manga readers wanted 100% rumbling because that was what we were lead to believe could happen for like 4 years of reading month by month. Manga readers didn’t want a happy or evil ending. We wanted what made sense for Eren’s growth as a character. Turning him into a wimp Incel at the 99 yard line was a slap in the face.
You have zero idea what you're talking about. Eren would have to face the unspeakable sin of his actions, and the judgment of his own friends, if he lived. Or, even worse, the guilt if any of his friends died trying to oppose him. Thats not "Disney". The ending we got was WAY too easy on Eren and way more Disney-esque than what we got. Remember when Eren had to live with the guilt of Levi squad's death? Or when Erwin and co. all died for what they believe in? That was real dark, but raw and real shit. None of that in the ending. Isayama even admitted Marvel movies inspired his ending for Christ's sake. You're completely oblivious if you genuinely think people who dislike the ending wanted a happier ending.
@@t-ro6176 I guess Eren dying and Mikasa living lonely sad life is happy ending for you ? Not to mention credit scene where literally eldians are nuked out of existence lol
If that happened, then all of Paradis would've been killed. Armin would've been captured and forced to be eaten for his colossus titan, Historia, and her unborn child would've been taken by marley and be forced to make babies because of her royal bloodline and Mikasa would've been left all alone with no friends family or her beloved Eren.
As far as we know, Marley was the only country that kept oppressing the Eldians. He could’ve just stomped out Marley completely but this man went a bit too far by killing 80% of the world. I would’ve understood where he was coming from if he just wiped out only Marley. And Gabi, god I hate that child.
I would have two but I wouldn't have sided with Paradis either, because they are also in the wrong, let's not forget the king fritz era where he had people's head embedded on sticks like trophies, but other than that your right, and Gabi to me is just another eren a spoiled stubborn brat.
@@SpikeTheWolf Yes, because of him the "Yeagerists" took over the goverment, and they are literally facists who believe in Eldia's supremacy. The shots at the end of the series look like something from a certain country in the 30ties xD
@@catxborsuq1honestly the jeagerists were kind of necessary to rebuild eldia, they are literally an embodiment of the eldian restorationists the owl was running
Far too many people don't understand that Eren engaged in a Zero Approval Gambit. He hated the fact he had no choice, no freedom in his path, but knowing his friends get to live free from the Titans and the world (for now), he locked-in and played his part. Zero Approval is the only way his friends could have been accepted by the world.
Future is set n stone not because the future is set n stone and eren can't do anything about it. But because he will never choose to cage himself and his people.
The alternate ending was shown in the anime where mikasa and eren ran away and lived together but that couldn't have been the ending since unlike ymir mikasa chose the world over his lover and broke the cycle of war and hatred in the actual ending for thousands of years like we see in the end when the used missiles and stuff because the cycle of war and hatred never ends but eren still managed to protect eldia for so many years.
This Alt ending proves the actual ending is good. Eren just letting the oppression happen doesn't fit his character. Eren is fiercely determined to take action even if he's not really thinking about the consequences after his actions happen
I don't know why people keep saying the ending was bad. Eren's fate was cemented from the very beginning. It was shown to us that he would rather die than surrender is freedom to anyone. He wanted all his friends to live long lives and war with Marley would definitely mean death to all the eldians within the walls. If he left to live a happy life with Mikasa Marly would still have attacked Paradis. Any other decision Eren made would have still resulted in a war, the only difference being that Marly would have won. Eren had to choose between killing everyone beyond the walls to guarantee the safety of his friends and paradis or doing nothing and letting either the ensuing war by Marley or Zeke's plan eventually wipe out the eldian race. In short EREN WAS RIGHT!!!! There are no good or bad sides in attck on titan. Everyone was just doing what they had to tp protect themselves and their respective people.
@@SpikeTheWolfdid you like not watched the show? You are asking stupid questions in other people's comments also; Eren let Mikasa kill him so that would free Ymir, which was basically what Ymir was waiting for all those 2000 years, and freeing her was the only way to remove the titans from existence(it's an open end, some people still believes in the theory that titans still exist, no proof though), Ymir was the one causing all those headaches for Mikasa, it was a parallel to how the king treated her like a slave yet she could come to resolve to kill him but Mikasa, despite eren proclaim her as slave(which he never wished to, if it even is true) was able to sacrifice her love for what remain of the world
There’s just something wrong with eren’s motivation, even if his only goal was to save his friends I personally just can’t unsee the fact that his plan ended directly with the deaths of hange and floch
His goal was to destroy his enemies and he would have sacrificed his friends to do so. Isayama chickened out in the final chapters, but that’s where the story was headed
AOT is the most realistic ending. Either the protagonist or antagonist will win and they will make a change for the better for their people then after a while thr change will step back a bit but it will never be the same. Thats reality.
A lot of people don't understand this, yes what Eren did was wrong but there really wasn't any other option, his only path was just death regardless of anything he did so the best option would be to make sure his people were given a fighting chance and be able to learn ve out the rest of their lives
Didn't love the wibbly wobbly timey wimey memories of it all (as it felt somewhat out of place with rest of the strangely grounded power set), but this ending was really as fitting as it was sad.
Idk I still feel like Eren Yeager’s plan wasn’t in line with the owl’s plan. Surely the owl didn’t want to sacrifice eldian Marleyians and the rest of eldians to solely save paradis. I feel like there could’ve been something to protect his entire people not just the island. Especially since that power to protect that entrusted to him, came from outside of the island!
Eren is an anti-hero. Not an anti-villain. He did bad things for the right and justifiable reasons. While armin and everyone else tried doing a good thing for the wrong and unjustifiable reasons. And that one reason is betraying eren.
Marley literally enslaved children into Titans, forcing them to commit genocide on the Eldians in Paradis. So whatever Eren did, doesn't hold a candle to child enslavement and ethnocide.
20% of humanity destroyed Paradis for bloody revenge after the Alliance sabotaged the Rumbling and the power of titans have not disappeared! Lmfao Dude Eren died a virgin and accomplished nothing!
Why not just do what the Marlyans suggested, use the founding titans powers to cease all titans after the current ones die out. No more death or need for war.
And in the ending is was PARADIS who shot down that plane. And then the war started. Paradis started the war, the fought with equal technology and they lost.
No I liked this ending. Every story doesn’t have to have a logical perfect story ending. People don’t always make perfect decisions, sometimes the blind leading the blind and coming upon power and using it wrong is reality. That’s just how it is. This show is supposed to be something that mirrors life in a very bombastic over dramatic way. I like seeing flaws intentionally left in stories
its not eren commiting genocide and becoming the villain which is bad. that is great. its just how pathetic he was and that he didnt know why he was doing it
I have no complaints with the show. You saw his mother getting eaten in the most horrible way in the 1st episode and expected a wholesome show!? the only disappointment i had was when gabi shot eren and we didnt get the full glory of his founding titan.

Thats why i like the final season, it shows that sometimes, you are too late to help someone, all you can do is hope, it feels oddly... satisfying to know media is acknowledging this fact us humans seem to ignore

@@DopeGuyTy wow its almost like this story is a tragedy all around
It's probably Isayama's weakest written section of the story.
why did eren just make it so they can no longer turn into titans, this would make them not a threat to the rest of the world and peace could be had
Eren achieved all his goals, even if one of them(the attack on oppressors) was left open to resistance for the sake of the longevity and trust of his friends.(Cus lets not forget, if eren succeded Jaeggerist would still be back in paradis killing each other and probably Eren's friends for treason.)
(Even that last page shows a huge contrast from how Ymir got her powers, she wanted to survive and was chased by hounds, the kid in the final page is exploring alongside a dog.

Well said
This was a whole ass essay but very well said pro😂❤
Soo he pulled a watchmen? How did he save the world?
"If I could change anything, I would gladly give my life as many times as necessary"

The ending makes me depressed as hell, but I still love it 🙏😍
Same how mikasa was going though what a pain she go in life with out eren. It sad. And miss up. But at less mikasa did not marry anyone before she died when with eren in the after life.😭
@ IK BUT STILL SO SAD
Eren said it best to Hange, if someone knows something he doesn't, he would definitely be open to it. There literally was no other way.
I’m starting to realize how good shows get called “bad endings” when it’s just kids who want to see a happy ending. The ending was great and in my opinion could have been better. It was too on the nose that eren wanted his friends to kill him and be seen as heroes by the rest of the world. Still tho it was a great show through and through
The happy ending would’ve been the extermination of the outside world :3 (kidding)
It was stupid af and so are you if you don’t see it
It’s bad because it’s bad, not because it’s not happy. You need to not be a kid to understand that
Ok, how could the ending be better in your opinion, because I personally think aot has no flaws and is an amazing show.
The ending was good
Personally I would've gone with Armin's solution of partial rumbling, destroying all military basis and ending the titan curse so everyone's equally screwed for the next 100 years or so
That would have required Eren to trust his friends to do well without him once he is gone (ie: militarize paradis to on par with other nations AND look for peaceful solutions).
This person gets it
@@stefvanroey8191 No no, I mean what *I,* a passive viewer who hasn't experience the events of the story first hand, would do.
His aunt was fed to dogs as a child.
Do they think they're Disney?
They're treated as real people too 😓
Um nobody in the alliance died against the main villain and lived happy lives, so yes it sounds like Disney to me
he could have marched the wall titans to the edge of Marley and essentially displayed his power and told them that if they had so much as breath aggressively, he would wipe them out.
I agree with you , eren would not have become like this if only marleyans weren't so greedy , in the end their greed resulted in their downfall
i vvish for a better ending, not because i disagree vvith anyone. but it vvas just lackluster compared to season 4 part 2 and pre.
They were a island verses the entire earth. There was no better option for what Eren wanted. All he cared about was his friends living peaceful lives
It was an alright ending but there a lot of issues I had with it...just to name a few........
Mikasa suddenly becoming important at the end of the story
Mikasa -ymir parallel is just too forced..your telling me that ymir didn't find anyone who who killed their beloved person in 2000 years??
Huge plot armour...so Levi survived a point blank explosion and just lost a few fingers? Also the alliance literally got minimal injuries against what seems to be a looot of transfotmed titans
How can eren be remotely close to King fritz? That have nothing in common...but I guess it was enough for ymir
Also aren't Ackermans immune to founders Powers so how did that Cabin scene happen?? Was it a dream
also floch surviving what seems to be a whole day while dangling on the boat and same with Mikasa who I guess travelled thousands of kilometers while carrying eren
Don't get me wrong I love this series....But people who say this is perfect are just delusional
I wouldnt care him an anti villain. Dude is just a villain with the stuff he pulled
Eren was never a villain , the true villain was his friends turning on him, should’ve taken out all not just 80% and his traitorous friends
Eren like thanos simply didn’t take it far enough. Wipe the slate clean for a new man to rebuild.
About to start my third run of the series. Definitely one of the most powerful anime series if not media series ever made.
If he can see the future why didn't he save his mom or his buddies? I still don't understand how no one but him could have so much control?
@@SpikeTheWolfBecause he needed a reason for revenge. He was the one that killed his mother with the titan power. He needed his heart to hate marleans and the rest of the world to be sure his revenge would be justified.
Eren was looking for other solutions in the past 4 years but only Yelena gave him the other solution (euthanasia) and he doesn't like that, he also asked Hange about the other solution she has but she can't give him the answer, she doesn't have one, there are only 2 option that he has which was the future memory or Yelena's
He's not miserable.
I am. And I'll keep moving forward
Epictetus was a slave and he find peace, Eren is just a entitled narcissist, he does not listen to any posible solution from anyone, he character was a complete villian.
Literally eren: God knows that i tried seeing the bright side...
If you could end the world with a single thought like the Founding can, the world would hate you and your people, living in a constant state of war untill one side wins (eldians × the world)
He should have just threatened them with the rumbling.
Best protagonist & antagonist ever
I think the ending was perfect. The only thing I’d of changed was him putting a baby in Mikasa first.
There will be no good alternate ending than what we witnessed. This anime is more than a life❤
The moment it explained what the curse of Ymir was sort of hinted at the inevitability of him dying.
There is no better ending. Human still fighting each other no matter what
Honestly, I watch Eren’s mom get eaten and comrades die time after time.
I’m just sad he died I wish there was a better ending..In anime like these you have to expect everyone or anyone to die.
Lets be real, if you truly understand the series and everythings going on you would realize that the world is the one force Eren. Eren spend so long among the outside world society but what he saw is hopelessness. That scene where Eren apologise to the kid just show that he has no other choice but he knows that hes the only one could do It
The post credit scene suggests that it never mattered. Zekes Plan was the best solution imo.
Eren was neither a hero nor a villain. He was necessary evil, someone humanity needed but no one wanted to be.
I'm not saying it was a bad or a good ending, I just wish people would stop acting like this wasn't a happy ending, all things considered.
fans complaining about ending were just Disney fans in disguise...

@@catxborsuq1honestly the jeagerists were kind of necessary to rebuild eldia, they are literally an embodiment of the eldian restorationists the owl was running
I still can’t believe Jean got the Mikasa bag. Lucky ass bastard. You can tell it’s bad since just mentioning JeanKasa triggered people into denial! 😊
Far too many people don't understand that Eren engaged in a Zero Approval Gambit. He hated the fact he had no choice, no freedom in his path, but knowing his friends get to live free from the Titans and the world (for now), he locked-in and played his part.
Zero Approval is the only way his friends could have been accepted by the world.
people hated the ending?? I thought it was a good ending. Sucks that he died, but still a good ending
There's nothing we can do
~eren
This Alt ending proves the actual ending is good. Eren just letting the oppression happen doesn't fit his character. Eren is fiercely determined to take action even if he's not really thinking about the consequences after his actions happen
Ending would of been better if Eren won
In short
EREN WAS RIGHT!!!!
There are no good or bad sides in attck on titan. Everyone was just doing what they had to tp protect themselves and their respective people.
Why he let Mikasa kill him?
@@SpikeTheWolfdid you like not watched the show? You are asking stupid questions in other people's comments also; Eren let Mikasa kill him so that would free Ymir, which was basically what Ymir was waiting for all those 2000 years, and freeing her was the only way to remove the titans from existence(it's an open end, some people still believes in the theory that titans still exist, no proof though), Ymir was the one causing all those headaches for Mikasa, it was a parallel to how the king treated her like a slave yet she could come to resolve to kill him but Mikasa, despite eren proclaim her as slave(which he never wished to, if it even is true) was able to sacrifice her love for what remain of the world
@@ArmaanNandha08 Easy kid, dont get your panties in a knot. It's just a cartoon.
Bruh, the outside world intended to murder his entire friends and family. Might be a villain but he felt it was either his friends or the world
Ppl forgot unfortunately that Eren was cornered
There’s just something wrong with eren’s motivation, even if his only goal was to save his friends I personally just can’t unsee the fact that his plan ended directly with the deaths of hange and floch
Goal to save all of Eldia*
His goal was to destroy his enemies and he would have sacrificed his friends to do so. Isayama chickened out in the final chapters, but that’s where the story was headed
His death was literally foreshadowed in his first scene in the manga, Mikasa killing him was always part of the plan. 💀
Even is a hero
Villian?! Eren was the ONLY good guy in the series, people are just genocide sympathizers
Someone should ask him what if Eren did the full rumbling
AOT is the most realistic ending. Either the protagonist or antagonist will win and they will make a change for the better for their people then after a while thr change will step back a bit but it will never be the same. Thats reality.
Like Eren himself said, there was nothing else that he could to make eldia free without killing people
Eren did nothing wrong. There was no other choice to stop the war, and at the end of the day he is a soldier.
Eren is a dog he stood on business and did what he had to. Heart and soul to the cause till the end g.
A lot of people don't understand this, yes what Eren did was wrong but there really wasn't any other option, his only path was just death regardless of anything he did so the best option would be to make sure his people were given a fighting chance and be able to learn ve out the rest of their lives
not an anti-villain tho-proper villain
People wanted it to end with a despicable me-ass dance party scene or something
Eren was not an anti villian. He was straight up the villian
Nah, Humanity is the villain...
And Racist world created the Devil Eren
Nah I see him as a hero, so anti villain.
Human nature was the REAL villain
Him going nuts is fine. Him becoming a crybaby wasn't
Put them on equal footing? You mean he took away their ONLY means of defense?
Didn't love the wibbly wobbly timey wimey memories of it all (as it felt somewhat out of place with rest of the strangely grounded power set), but this ending was really as fitting as it was sad.
So basically, everyone dies no matter what?
Normal anime: hero, villian
Aot: eren, eren
His turn to an anti-villain? His turn to a TRUE hero you mean?
Dang the last group that called genocide heroic were on the bad side of history.
An ending without the rumbling would have been right at the moment the world invades Paradis, they wouldn’t survive without the rumbling
I deadass liked this new eren 😭🙏
The ending was THAT bad, a bit overhated but damn the alternative ending would've been so bad lol
Why not just do what the Marlyans suggested, use the founding titans powers to cease all titans after the current ones die out. No more death or need for war.
And in the ending is was PARADIS who shot down that plane. And then the war started. Paradis started the war, the fought with equal technology and they lost.
Where’s the source that paradise started it? Stop spreading misinformation
Thay shot down that plane. That plane didn't look like the ones used for bombing. It looked just like a regular plane.@@t-ro6176
Its attack on titan. Did you expect that all the people could live happily forever after? Wake up.
Literally eren becoming an anti villain was the coolest thing in the show, what are some people on about?😂
Eren said at the start of the series he would kill every last Titan. What did people expect?
A show is made to be watched and enjoyed when i realsised what people meant by girly shows i just didnt care
Eren did the right thing with the rumble
Too bad Eren gave up and died for nothing.
What people don’t understand is that it’s Attack on Titan lol. The show is dark and cruel, of course the ending is also going to be dark
its not eren commiting genocide and becoming the villain which is bad. that is great. its just how pathetic he was and that he didnt know why he was doing it
They forced his hand. He did nothing wrong.
Rip aot the goat anime
I have no complaints with the show. You saw his mother getting eaten in the most horrible way in the 1st episode and expected a wholesome show!? the only disappointment i had was when gabi shot eren and we didnt get the full glory of his founding titan.
I've never met someone who hated the ending?
