    What a wonderful Man and let's hear a loud and thunderous 'hell yeah!" for his insightful and truly loving parents. God we need more people like he and his parents around.

    More people should talk candidly about their depression. It's a horrible disease and it's good to hear those who succeed at managing it.

    The interviewer did a great job... and Numan is nothing if not humble. He absolutely possesses a certain strain of genius.

    Back in the 80's when I was around 16 years old, I remember having a discussion with my big brother. I told him "Gary Numan is possibly the most underrated musicians of the decade." I am SO glad to see he is still kickin' it. #qualityhasnoexpirationdate.

      You're right but I believe it has worked to his advantage. Once a artist goes mainstream, they suck :) Gary is a legend!

    • @user-qr8ki8ue4i
      @user-qr8ki8ue4i 9 років тому +2

      Julie Pauley I guess that depends on what one defines as "mainstream." Chopin and Schubert were "mainstream" and they didn't suck. Howlin' Wolf was "mainstream" (for that genre) but he didn't suck, and neither did/does Stevie Ray Vaughn, Sting, Janis Joplin, or Cat Stevens. I do think you're right though, that it must be incredibly tough for any musical artist to hold on to a sense of self when the whole world wants a piece of your immortal soul. No thanks. I couldn't do it. Fame is a river of marrow-suckers, and I can't imagine wanting any part of it.

    • @julieblue4543
      @julieblue4543 9 років тому

      If you think of the artists of today, do you think any of them have the talent to be considered a "legend"?

    • @user-qr8ki8ue4i
      @user-qr8ki8ue4i 9 років тому +1

      I find the term "legend" (when it comes to music in all its iterations) to be subjective and at the mercy of popular mood in any given moment. And we know how moods change. There are a bazillion brilliant musicians out there that *could* be "legendary" but won't ever reach "legend" status; simply because of timing and luck and circumstance in their chosen genre. I have a small handful of favorite artists that will probably never be given the chance to be "legend" merely because of time, place, and luck. I mean, really, how can we explain the massive cult following of Nickleback? Their die-hard followers kind of give me the willies. I do agree that Gary Numan forged his own way, is incredibly unique, and has been innovative and forward-thinking.

    I've suffered major depressive illness all of my life. It helps me to know that Gary Numan does too and that if he can prevail, then I can too. I have been so close to suicide so many times, but I always think of how it would affect my family, so I then continue on with the pain and anguish under-pinning my life....but I'm still here!! This is the best part that artists can give us, I think.

    This is an amazing interview, thank you so much for uploading it. It is brilliant to see Gary Numan as he is currently, as I always have only seen and heard his seventies music up to now. He looks great. He is also very honest and brave in this interview when he talks about his depression and turning fifty, things which I too can identify with. Great to see that he is still creating music and that he looks so well. Wishing you continued happiness and success, Gary.

    Takes courage to talk about depression, so much stigmatism associated with it. You would think how could he be depressed, but I guess some of the greatest creative people are often moody and get down in the dumps. Not sure why that happens.

      I'm not joking, I've met the man myself and I know practically everything about him (I'm not obsessed haha) His hair has eased up a little now but when he first started getting these transplants, too much was used in a short time. It's essentially just hair from the back of his head moved to the front and because it's new roots now, it will grow just like the rest of his hair. Besides, why is this a big deal? It's his hair, not yours haha
