    This is just “how money feels to me” - (1) You have cash, and that cash is already “spent” (2) you return an item that you “spent” money on and now you have “more” money to spend, because you weren’t going to wear an item you want to return, (3) rewards are “more money” because you were going to spend that money anyway.
    It’s all about how having and/or spending that money *feels*, and they feel the need to justify their desires with justification rather than than own up to “I want an excuse to spend money, because I’ve been taught that shopping is one of the few things I’m allowed to enjoy.”

    Oooh kay, @6:00. I was listening to this on a secondary screen at work. Hearing what she said, I glanced over and wasn't surprised. No, I didn't judge a book by its cover. I heard garbage, looked at the book, and simply accepted it as what should be expected.
    Thoreau said a man is rich in proportion to the things he can let alone. Having stacks of cash is great, but having few needs you cannot meet yourself is another form of wealth & independence. Then again, I barely dabble in social media. Comparing myself to everyone else or trying to post a curated version of the highlights of my life doesn't appeal to me.
    I live my life, not Elon Musk's. I don't have a Bugatti. I have an old tractor and an old truck, but I also have more eggs and milk than I can use. So I give what I can to a neighbor who has four kids. They in turn send their kids to my place to help with yard work, or picking tomatoes, or to get a goat off the roof. (Long story)
    My choices were not to pursue flashy cars & dinners with gold foil cooked onto my food. Instead, I have venison & trout in my freezer. I keep ducks, goats, & honeybees. There are wild chives and dandelions popping up in my yard that are begging to go in salads. There is fungus in the woods just waiting to be broken off a tree and put into a stew. My life won't appeal to most people and that's fine. It is my life, shaped by my priorities...comfort, good food, & being able to listen to the wind rustle the leaves as I lie back and stare at the Milky Way at night.
    This isn't for everyone, but if you made it to the end of this comment, maybe living more simply is for you.

      Meanwhile, pigs have more figured out than they'll admit. They're inside the range of the "sweet spot" of the body weight to brain weight ratio.

    Some of these ladies need someone to go "I love you, and you have a problem, what you say makes no sense whatsoever." - Who taught these ladies how to math? - To be fair there certainly are men who are bad at/with money, but for now at least they aren't making 'fools' of themselves, by posting about it on the internet, at least to my knowledge. xD lol
    Also yup it isn't all bad to treat oneself, but yea doing so at the detriment to finances/making good living decisions is no bueno.
    Psst use sage mode on us when you go talk no jutsu/serious mode. :P - Seriously though what you said about it being a deeper issue, is certainly food for thought!
    What you said about making sure that we have money for when we return from a vacation and/or holiday seasons is absolutely spot on, we may not take the money with us when we leave, but while we are here on this earth, there is no sense in making life more difficult for future us because of money, sometimes it is true it cannot be helped, but anything to mitigate/lessen the blow should be preformed, before it becomes an issue, not to mention the snowball affect. If I have to take a loan of says $100 us dollars out to make rent, then that $100 has to come out somewhere else, and often it would incur interest further complicating things thus keeping me in debt. - (For the record the $100 is just an example, and taking loans out is foolish imho.)

      It's so weird when I realise my bank account has 20x the amount of money most people my age have despite the fact that I work a minimum wage callcentre job and that most people in my country don't even have $2000 to fall back on incase of an emergency, nuts.
      10 years ago I bought the cheapest second hand car I could get because I was broke, but I was already saving up for my next car from day 1. So recently when my car was too expensive to repair I already had the money I had been saving up for the last 10 years to fall back on for it's replacement and was able to get something better, no loans or finance required and still had all my other budgets and expenses covered on top of that.

    • @robertblume2951
      @robertblume2951 2 місяці тому +2

      It doesn't defy logic. If you are going to get the product anyway you are just moving purchases forward in time to save money. Like if I buy 2 cigars today and get a coupon for my next purchase why not buy 2 cigars? I was gonna buy a second cigar in a couple days anyways and now my cigars in 4 days is cheaper.

    • @Reploid-dj9jc
      @Reploid-dj9jc 2 місяці тому +1

      @robertblume2951 ok 1 you are stuck with that coupon , the coupon will never be anywhere close to half or full price so you are now suckered in buying the thing on the coupon which is most likely not the thing you bought but more expensive making you pay more regardless or a item that did not sell and now with that coupon is making them profit cause "it's a sale". Every time they give you that coupon it's a almost garrantee you will come again . If you want 2 cigars just buy the 2 cigars.

    • @robertblume2951
      @robertblume2951 2 місяці тому

      @@Reploid-dj9jc because I don't want 2. I want 1 today and in a couple days I will want another 1. I could buy a whole box, there is 20 to 25 cigars in each box, and get 10 percent off each cigar but instead since I don't have a humidor and I smoke at the shop anyway, I don't. So, like I said I am just moving 1 purchase ahead a couple of days and if it was in fact a coupon for a more expensive cigar then its actually a huge win for me since I am on a budget and if I can upgrade my 15 to 20 dollar cigar purchase to a 25 or 30 dollar cigar purchase just by moving my Thursday purchase to Tuesday then damn I actually am winning. Have you tried an Attabay, a Padron 1926, or a Cohiba Behike? Those are some real good sticks, though the Behike is technically illegal in the states and at the time I tried it they sold for about 40 dollars a piece.

    3:29 - Okay, so while their logic that "it was cash, so it's free" is definitely wrong, earnings from gambling entirely depends on your viewpoint.
    If you take 100$ and declare that you're spending that gambling for the experience of gambling and nothing else, then you've spent that 100$ on an expensive experience. With that, any earnings you get are just a cherry on top and pure winnings.
    Now, if you got your gambling item to earn money, yeah. The buy-in price 100% is getting deducted from your overall.

    What are they teaching in school? It is like the person who bought a hundred dollars worth of scratch off tickets and earn fifty back thinking they won fifty and came out ahead. Not realizing they are in the hole for fifty.
    As for those points you earn, they are only beneficial if you doing needs and not wants purchases. It is like I have to buy groceries and I use my credit card to pay and earn cash back. Then pay off what I spent on that card every paycheck to not be charged interest. You can kind of view it as earning money or as saving money.

    I think most people know this perspective is wrong, but I understand where it comes from.
    For example, if I buy something the money is spent. I no longer have that money. If I return something because I turn out to not want it or not need it, then I receive money that I was never planning to get back. Getting money I wasn't accounting for makes it "extra money". Because those funds were already spent in my mind, I'm less concerned about spending it again.
    Sure, this thought process is not logically consistent. It ignores the loss of the returned asset to avoid proper balancing of the equation. But it "feels" like free money, and that's all there is to it.
