2:53 So I went ahead and did a deep dive, and this place is one of MANY eternal flames and one of the few that is considered a natural eternal flame. A vast majority of eternal flames are man-made, usually in remembrance of those who died in conflict or disasters. The UK has 3 that I know of, one in London, another in Liverpool, and another in Derry/Londonderry.

I don't have an ipad/iphone myself for various reasons, more of a android guy, though aye both have their pros and cons. (I do work on them at work though.)
Regardless, the question you had at @5:37 absolutely works (it is called pinch and drop) it does require a few things to make it work but definitely works.
There are so many features on both androids and iphone/apple devices that rarely if ever get used due to niche circumstances needing to be fulfilled/there being other ways to achieve things, that are also arguably generally far safer. (Like taking a picture with your android and/or handing off to a friend/trusted travel partner rather than using the S-pen to walk away from the phone and take the picture, great if alone/not around others, but a real risk if in a crowded location.)

So the pit that's been on fire for 50 years. I really want to know if they ever let the people who set it on fire live down that idea. Like did they just go "Remember that time you set that pit on fire? And it NEVER went out?". Imagine making a mistake and people just keep bringing it up for the rest of your life, like that's gotta suck and maybe a tiny bit funny.

Actually it is better for the environment that the gas is getting burned than if it just got released into the atmosphere.

@@firestorm5371 Apparently it was Soviet Russian that had a drilling accident creating the hole releasing poisonous gas and they figure light it on fire would fix it. Well since that didn't fix it and you can't continue your job I doubt they were happy about it. That single idea I bet cost them quite a bit.
So it was a mistake. I doubt they were thinking about the environment when they couldn't continue working.

2:11 We have something similar in my state in the US! Centralia Pennsylvania, there's a coal vein that's been burning underground since 1962. They think it started from an industrial burn pit that had some exposed coal at the bottom of it. There's no more smoke coming from the ground or anything crazy like that anymore, but apparently it's still on fire and there's nothing anyone can do about it except let it burn.
Also there's only like 5 people still living there, and the town had its postal code revoked
