Abuse is worse than abandoning... Though abandonment is mental abuse.. Did you guys completely forget Usopp's lies as a coping machanism? (The Pirates are coming!) just the hope his father returns..it totally messed him up
I think a 'Best Moms of One piece' but with Merphy Napier (and JAY) would be perfect! btw 1:13:13 the collab with merphy is really good, great discussion
great idea for content, now we need a worst mom tierlist where big mom occupies all 86 spots or whatever for every crime against each child shes comitted
yeaaa, lets do this Worst OP Moms but with this list: Bellemere, Sora (Sanji), Nico Olvia, Dr. Kureha, Banchina (Usopp), Otohime, Scarlet, Didit (Sabo), Portgas D. Rouge, Dadan, and ofcourse we must not forget Luffy's mom too. . . Crocodile 🤣.
i feel like a lot of people give garp guff for his absence but he IS risking his position and possibly life by hiding the children of the world's 2 most heinous criminals from the watchful eye of the world government. if he spent a bunch of time with them people would probably be like "hey, uhhh where'd those kids come from?"
Luffy's easier than you think. You can spin that as "His dad may be a terrorist, but his grandfather's the Hero of the Marines. That boy's in good hands." Ace, on the other hand, yeeeeeeaaaaah.
Y'all are actually so right about Homing failing Doffy, though my pet theory is that Homing never actually tells Doffy things like "Slavery is bad" and "You don't have the right to hurt other people" not because he didn't know how to, but because he lived in a bubble where that was normal behaviour and didn't think it was that big a deal even though he didn't agree personally because everyone around him talked that way. He looks kind of uncomfortable when Doffy starts saying evil celestial dragon shit in public to his new neighbours but he doesn't stop it, and he brushes it off with an explanation like "Oh we just have less stuff now" when Doffy starts asking why they don't have slaves or wear space suits now. He's never actually depicted saying "I think it's wrong of my peers to do this" in canon, just "we're going to live like humans and that means having less things but I think that's more meaningful", and he's completely shocked when he sees that normal humans actually hate and fear them and persecute his family because it just never occurred to him that the way his peers were living wasn't just a decadent or shallow lifestyle choice, but a completely amoral way of being. It's an example of parental failure, but it's not because he just didn't manage to teach one son to be good; he didn't even recognize how serious the problem was. Corazon was younger when they left, so he might not have really been brainwashed to the extent that Doffy was by the celestial dragon society, but while Doffy only had trebol to enable him after that, Corazon was taken in by Sengoku, who's a very flawed and morally grey person but who showed him love and kindness and saved his life. Having love, receiving some kind of a moral code and "human" upbringing, and not being enabled and groomed by some slimy criminal to become a monster, may have made him a better person and given him the empathy and perspective he needed to become the good man he turned out to be.
You guys have to get Hidden Island on that Chopper court case. In one of his break week videos he put Chopper to death while playing a lawyer. Chopper needs to be defended.
One thing that you have to realize about the One Piece world is that becoming a pirate/revolutionary is akin to willingly enlisting in the military. It’s about sacrificing your familial relationship to make the world better for them…sometimes. I’d like to think that’s the case for Yasopp, Shanks, Dragon, and Garp, at least.
he's the equivalent of taking his kids to "live in nature" with no training of how to provide food, shelter or protection and then his children has to watch them get mauled by bears... chances are, one of them is gonna flip
When judge says to sanji when he was about to escape something between the line “thank god i guess I’m human after all because I couldn’t kill my son” and that’s why he wanted to kept him in jail until he die…that’s sooo fuckd up , also the fact baby sanji was still call him “dad” until the last moment between them even after all the abuse because he couldn’t understand why he dos this to him .. yeah he’s definitely the worst
Maybe I'm dumb but I think Roger had a moderately decent alibi for his absence with him being dead and all that but how does he dare to put the future of the world before his son's self-esteem
Roger knew Joy boy was coming and it was inevitable for him to think that it would be his son, that's why he tried to hide him. I don't believe that Roger was a bad dad
I can't help but feel like they gave Roger a bit too much of a pass on how badly he fucked up things for Ace. Roger left his pregnant wife in a position completely without support so when Marines rolled up to the island and started hauling off pregnant women she had to just HOLD IT IN UNTIL THEY LEFT. Garp finally shows up as she has Ace and dies. It feels like maybe Roger could have made some better decisions around having a kid.
Here's my list: 0. Bingo (Simped for Hiyori so hard he sold his whole family into slavery) 1. Judge (Tried to turn his kids into psychopath super soldiers, called the one kid that still had his emotions intact a failure, let his others sons bully him, locked him in a dungeon so he could forget about his "failure", etc) 2. Outlook (Very controlling and only saw his kid as a way to climb the social ladder to the point he even replaced him when his son ran away) 3. Kaidou (Very abusive but at least cared about his kid a little bit) 4. Morgan (Didn't even care about his son but at least provided him with a cushy life and only hit him once) 5. Yasopp (Willfully abandoned his kid for his own selfish ambitions) 6. Homing (Good intentions but was too ignorant of the consequences) 7. Shanks (Good intentions Bad execution) 8. Garp (Good intentions Mixed execution) 9. Dragon (Kinda forced into leaving his kid due to his responsibilities) 10. Roger (Didn't have a chance to be a father)
Morgan was a marine that was defeated by Captain Kuro, hypnotized by Jango to become a pyscho rabid man to take the fall for destroying a ship and faking Captain Kuro's death. So he has that for him.
ngl I had to stop the video when you started talking about Garp because your apologism was making me so angry. That dude is the worst dad in my book (at least top 3). Physically abusive, dismissing his kid's autonomy and dreams, absent. And that's only during their childhood. After that, he betrayed Ace's biggest secret and contributed to the kid being used as a lure to murder a bunch of people, and then he let his colleague murder him. Oh but then he has so much energy to save Koby?? Objectively this guy collects all the crime of the other dads in this list, and then some. How is that better than Roger and Dragon at the very least? Two guys who knew they wouldn't be able to look after their kids but made sure plans were in place for them to be safe (or so they thought if the guy they trusted didn't turn out to be such a massive tool)
Argument that favors Morgan slightly over Judge: At least Morgan let Helmeppo live comfortably and enjoy his privilege as a Marine boss' son, whereas Judge locks Sanji in cell. Also, slight argument favors Garp: He tried leaving Luffy in peaceful place under care of kind Fuusha Village's people, and the next thing he knew Luffy wanted to become pirate King. Garp also knew he can't take Luffy and Ace to marine base or they'll find out the boy's lineage, so it's very dangerous. By the elimination process, he was forced to put Luffy and Ace under a mountain bandit's care, since they're closed community, they're scared of Garp enough to not pull any funny tricks, and living in mountain basically lets them train. Another point is, Garp never tried taking Luffy's straw hat from him, even tho he knew the straw hat is Luffy's connection to one of the strongest pirates in the world, Shanks.
I dno if telling your son they arent worth hitting is worse than locking exploding handcuffs to their hands and trapping them in a cave with your enemies but i guess Morgan was kind of a dick, sure.
so i realize im a year late, but morgan is only that way because jango hypnotized hum when he "captured" Kuro. so while he was a terrible dad it legitimately wasnt his fault
My list: 1. Judge: Removed the free will from 4 of his children and emotions from 3. Was physically, verbally, and emotionally abusive towards Sanji. The only remotely redeeming quality was that he didn't have the guts to actually kill Sanji. 2. Outlook: If you look at the outcomes, Stelly became a conceited royal and murderer (how he got his position) and Sabo would have been dead at like 8 due to Outlook's abuse and neglect. That's awful. Sabo surviving and becoming a good man is all on Dragon basically. 3. Kaido: This is tough. But as the previous two parents wouldn't have cared if their unfavored child died, I get the impression that, despite the crazy circumstances Kaido put him in, he wouldn't have actually let Yamato die. That's a subterranean bar, but at least he clears it. He was way more outwardly abusive than Outlook though. 4. Homing: Like with Outlook, his incompetence should have led to his children's deaths. But at least he loved his kids and probably was fine while they lived in Mariejois. Again the bar is low and these 4 are way worse than the next 5. 5. Garp: Was there for Ace and Luffy some of the time, but was neglectful and abusive under the guise of 'training'. Also wasn't willing to crash out for Luffy but was for Koby. 6. Morgan: This is just standard bad Dad territory. He provided for Helmeppo, but raised him poorly and was clearly somewhat verbally/physically abusive. But it's way less comical than whatever was going on with Luffy so I give him the edge over Garp. But I already feel bad doing so. 7. Yasopp: Just left and never came back. The definition of an absent father and with no good reason at all. At least he left Usopp with his Mom and if he didn't know she was sick, he at least figured he'd be fine? Again, he still sucks. But at least it isn't active sucking. 8. Shanks: Basically the same as Yasopp but with some more attention and care. And at least he kept Uta around when he could. 9. Roger: The neutral. He literally did what he could. Not his fault he was dying. Well, I guess he shouldn't have had a kid then, but oh well. And seemed to be a decent uncle to the Kozuki kids. 10. Dragon: Had the best reason to disappear but leaving Luffy with the maniac Garp was just a poor choice. He gets redeemed for basically raising (or helping to raise) Sabo and Koala. Which really begs the question of why he couldn't have just had Luffy there the whole time. Without the Sabo/Koala considerations, he'd probably fall behind Roger and maybe Shanks.
I disagree with Morgan being so high on the list. The man hit his son like once and gave him a job purely of nepotism, still awful dad but not as bad as kaido by far. You put him higher than kaido, who left yamato to starve and die with wano samurai who they thought would kill yamato. Not to mention the amount of times kaido beat him up, before and after the battle of onigashima
Roger wasn't an absent father, he was a dead father... you can't blame him for having a fatal disease and dying too early. And as for his "reputation" which hurt Ace so badly, this reputation was crafted by the Economic Journal (assumedly) and the World Government, which Garp was a big part of. If anything the WG was responsible, in my eyes, for all of that suffering. Do you think the reputation of "most evil criminal in history" was really earned by someone who is constantly championed as having the same nature as the main protagonist of the story? Minus Roger hiding his treasure in an impossible island instead of passing it along as a trust for Ace, I think he didn't do too much wrong. He wasn't beating his children or forcing his ideals onto them.
Roger knew two things: 1) he was dying 2) he was the most reviled man in history He chose to have Ace and burden him. Even further he had no plan except to rely on his rival to take care of his son.
🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀 Jay D Judge Dreadlocks Legend is in the house On the topic of Yassop, it's kinda funny how MelonThee made a video today about how Ussop might view Yassop leaving to be a pirate the same way a citizen kid might view their father leaving to become a marine, something to be proud of. I never thought of it that way, and it explains why Ussop doesn't seem to hate his dad
I would have put Roger above Dragon in the list, because if we look at the impact they had in their children's life, Luffy was not super badly Impacted by Dragon's actions or absence, Luffy doesn't even care, as where Ace's life was badly impacted completely by Roger, so definitely for me, Roger would have been 8 and Dragon 9, but great video, agree with the rest! Very interesting content
@@Rumham729 No is not Roger's fault that Ace died, but Ace's life was affected by Roger's Legacy, leaving only the other people's perspective of his life and not leaving a single note or something of his life to let him know he wasn't that bad, instead Ace grew up ashamed because all he heard were the hatred that people had towards his father and no explanation at all, and him being Roger's son, made him feel like he was born to be hated too, again, he's life was impacted by Rogers decision, it was not intentional, but still, just by that impact is why I would put Roger above Dragon, both are almost equaly bad parents haha, I'm just saying one had a bad impact on his son
@@Yeah_Brown not sure you are making sense, didn’t he purposely protect ace by making it so no one would know they were related? Seems like a good dad, given the circumstance. Roger can’t help if people don’t like him. He wasn’t even a criminal
@@Rumham729 Well that's a good point, I'll give you that, I'll maybe argue that is similar to Doflamingo's dad where he tried to do something good but in his ignorance ended up hurting his family, I would say Roger should have known his son would be hated but in his ignorance didn't think of that, same for Doflamingo's dad, is not his fault that they were hated just because of where they were born, but he should have known better... but, I guess Roger couldn't have forseen how things would work out for Ace, that point I'll give you, but it's tough xD
The big thing with Homing mindset was probably due to his privilege which created ignorance. Maybe he thought the people would see that if he gave up his status then others would hold his ideals which just wasn't true. When he gave up his status he still got a huge house and had a lot of money as well as not teaching his kids anything as yall said he didn't do his research and that says a lot about his character. Good intentions bad execution
It's just something about kaido being the only one on this list who actively tried to kill his child that makes him #1 for me. Other than that it's pretty close but thats the thing that just sets in apart from the rest. He never cared about yamato, he just wanted someone to be a successor for him and that burden was forced on yamato for her entire life.
All top three dads tried to kill there kid. Morgan held helmeppo as a hostage when he tried to s escape and tried killing him. Judge was pretty much slowly killing sanji by locking him in solitude.
@@bjbackmon7431 honestly you have a point but not only did kaido lock Yamato up he would kill anyone that helped her, no wonder she wants to be Oden, he was able to fight her trauma
@@samuraitadpole5459dude kaido is an awful person but even he respects yamatos pronouns. What does that say about you, that KAIDO is more accepting than you?
@@MayMoment_ until you have proof Yamato acts like kiku and morely she literally just sees herself as Oden not trans, if you find something like that I'll admit you're wrong but you literally can't until oda creates a new scene of it
@@samuraitadpole5459 bro what.. kiku went in the women's bath, because she's a woman. We can agree there, right? Yamato, went in the men's bath. For men. Because he's a man. Idk how ppl don't get this 😭
Judge takes the cake for me. When that absolute mother f’er had the AUDACITY to start crying when boo hoo his plan failed and he’s getting double crossed. I literally shouted expletives at my screen for 5 minutes straight. I have never been this angry at a character and have literally never cursed more. Not only is he the worst dad in my eyes but he is 100% my most hated character. What he did to sanji is unforgivable and he has 0 remorse or care but HE STILL HAS EMOTIONS! which makes him all the worse. He cares…. Just not about sanji at all. He doesn’t deserve the kindness sanji did him by saving him, but sanji is too good for the world he was born in. Fuck judge forever and always. Great vid.
I agree that Garp is old school parenting. He lacks communication. Intimidating the kids by yelling and hitting them isnt the best method to get them to do what you want. "JOIN THE MARINES" Okay but why?? They are kids, tell them what is good and interesting about being a marine so they understand why its important to be one and get them motivated.
A few honorable mentions. Calgara (was going to let his daughter die for false gods) Sukiyaki (didn’t tell anyone in his family that he was still alive) Koushiro (maybe killed kuina???) Frankys dad (abandoned Franky as a kid) Big Moms dad (same as above)
I mean Big Mom was an absulute unit at 5 years old, so in retrospect putting her in Elbaf where she's more likely to feel normal is a lowkey respectable move IMO
bro Koushiro kill kuina is wild, how can you time he kill her? We would have his inner monolgue or him visiting her grave after enieslobby and cover story.
shanks really fucked up utas childhood for no reason. if he didnt want to be traveling with a child to her safe thats one thing but dude is capable of at least dropping her at the nearest island with civilization
ratsack first understand the story before barking any bs, she was already known as a red haired pirate and Shanks left her to a man he knew well for long time. Try harder next time defaming Shanks, u 🐀breed
100% agree with the Homing roast, but I will put in a bit of a defense for him. At the very least, when he FINALLY realized how bad he fucked up, Homing did try to take it all back and get his family back to Marijoa and reinstated as Celestial Dragons even though the ship had sailed. Also when Doffy killed him, Homing did acknowledge how badly he had failed his son and felt bad. Could say too little too late, but that is more than could be said for our boys in the top 4. But yeah trash dad lol
Roger should definitely be on the bottom. He was already the no.1 criminal before he said those words, so his main crime was being Pirate, which in One Piece morality, the way Roger was, not really morally a bad thing. However, I get why Garp is that low too. In a sense, his 'abuse' or training or however you'd put it, was given the fact that they're the sons of the greatest criminals in the world. Leaving them unable to fend for themselves would be reckless. They wouldn't be in the spot to chase any of their ambitions to the extent that they did if Garp hadn't put them through such intense training, regardless of how fked up it was, given that they live in such a fked up world. It doesn't seem like Luffy was against training, as much as he thought the training was too insane (which it was, even though it equipped him for anything).
Isn't the Kaido/Yamato thing mostly just the trope that the Father wanted a son and raised the daughter as one regardless of their feelings which is why he raised her so harshly?
Judge: I made all my kids into weapons.
Megan: Well, except one.
Judge: We don’t talk about him.

The way Josh's Judge moustache moves when he talks is so funny to me!~

Such a great topic, but it's funny because when I think the opposite the worst mom that cross my mind is only Linlin 😂
“Worlds worst dad” 😂 I kinda want ging here 😂
You guys should do a tier list of the best low tier characters, like foxy, Nero, and hogback
yo we got a "prison Jay" cosplay here... I'm dead

Great podcast as always!
Only extenuating factor for Morgan is that he is under Jango's hypnosis. Not sure if it makes any difference.

Without the Sabo/Koala considerations, he'd probably fall behind Roger and maybe Shanks.
omg id love a best moms video as well!!!
I wanna debate Homeing cuz idk I feel like he was a good father
Jay is hilarious 😂
I disagree with Morgan being so high on the list. The man hit his son like once and gave him a job purely of nepotism, still awful dad but not as bad as kaido by far. You put him higher than kaido, who left yamato to starve and die with wano samurai who they thought would kill yamato. Not to mention the amount of times kaido beat him up, before and after the battle of onigashima
The D in gol D Roger stands for deadbeat
Homing is such an interesting character.
Doffy’s dad and shanks aren’t even that bad. I feel like people just say shanks for the memes. Judge should be number one.
Roger knew two things:
1) he was dying
2) he was the most reviled man in history
He chose to have Ace and burden him. Even further he had no plan except to rely on his rival to take care of his son.
It has to go to dragon. Luffy did even know his name or what he look like. He's the definition of I went out to get milk

On the topic of Yassop, it's kinda funny how MelonThee made a video today about how Ussop might view Yassop leaving to be a pirate the same way a citizen kid might view their father leaving to become a marine, something to be proud of. I never thought of it that way, and it explains why Ussop doesn't seem to hate his dad
Josh looks like wario
Yall really did some weird mental gymnastics to decide Morgan is worse than Kaido because he didn't beat his kid lmao
What the he'll are you talking about Final moments!!!!!!! Argh Josh!!! Lololol I need to pirate shit already
It ain’t rogers fault that he died lmao. What is ussopp mom bad cuz she died?
We don’t talk about him 😂😂😂
It's just something about kaido being the only one on this list who actively tried to kill his child that makes him #1 for me.
Idk how ppl don't get this 😭
Jay as chopper hater VS mehgan as chopper lover ... Love to see it 😹
Now lets do the Moms too XD
Hate to agree on Homing, but bad acts done in ignorance are not forgiven
The real question is…who is worse? Shanks or Ging Freecs?
1. Homing 2. Morgans 3. Judge 4. Yassop 5. Kaido
Who Homing tho

Calgara (was going to let his daughter die for false gods)
Sukiyaki (didn’t tell anyone in his family that he was still alive)
Koushiro (maybe killed kuina???)
Frankys dad (abandoned Franky as a kid)
Big Moms dad (same as above)
i mean in the big mom dad defense, some want to be in their child lives, but linlin refuse to let any of her (used to be) husband meet their children

Garp training (abuse) was because of the actions of Dragon and Roger he had to make them kids strong because the world would be against them
And roger raised shanks since he was a baby and took buggy in at some point
Isn't the Kaido/Yamato thing mostly just the trope that the Father wanted a son and raised the daughter as one regardless of their feelings which is why he raised her so harshly?
