Dos Ojos (from Spanish meaning "Two Eyes") is part of a flooded cave system located north of Tulum, on the Caribbean coast of the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico. The exploration of Dos Ojos began in 1987 and still continues. The surveyed extent of the cave system is 82 kilometers (51 mi) and there are 28 known sinkhole entrances, which are locally called cenotes. In January 2018, a connection was found between Dos Ojos and Sistema Sac Actun, making the Sistema Sac Actun the longest known underwater cave system in the world.
This video contains shots taken from the “west eye” or “bat-cave” line. Water temperature was 25 °C or 77 °F and the maximum depth was approximately 10 meters (33 ft). Diving this particular line took 45 minutes.
Dos Ojos was featured in a 2002 IMAX film, Journey Into Amazing Caves, and the 2006 BBC/Discovery Channel series Planet Earth. Parts of the Hollywood 2005 movie The Cave were filmed in the Dos Ojos cave system.
Dos Ojos is definitely one of the best caverns to dive in the Yucatan Peninsula. Highly recommended.
Buenisimo, amazing
That’s a cavern, not a cave.
Title changed. Thank you for the correction.
