I was farming and couldn’t find the same prefix in the national guard for the item I wanted and it was driving my crazy … literally hours I spent and now I know why with your detailed explanation.

I love how interactive you are in the comments, and i didnt quite understand it at first but after rewatching it i managed to figure it out, Two-Shot Gauss Rifle here i come!
For fellow ps5 users on next gen update that have issues on the reliability of the third save (quicksave) do the quick save as soon as you are able to press pause, that means in the black screen, that locks the item and randomizes the legendary, works like a charm for me, if you don't get the item, load save 2 and quicksave again as mentioned before
This is insanely indepth and truly caught my intrest, that being said im a lazy bastard and simply pickup stuff like Justice and Overseer's Guardian and already feel these are borderline OP depending on howfar into the file you are.

I'd just wanna say that I tested the steps proposed and I wasn't getting different prefixes after loading the save 3 (autosave). Then I watched the first version of this tutorial by you and I wasn't waiting the 3 seconds before making the save 3.
Dunno if anyone else was having the same issue, but after that little adjustment it has been working nicely
It seems like every time I get back around to the item I want, whenever I go to repeat save 3, it always locks the prefix and I don't know what the fuck is going wrong. I can revert to save 2 and get a different item and prefix, but loading save 3 _anytime_ I get the item, but not prefix, still gives me the same prefix... .
@@dominator-tc8ik I'm having an issue where no matter what the operator has on the the same inventory no matter ho many time i load save 2 (just touching the truck)
While this method does work, the timing that you need to make the second hard save might be different for you. Timing the save when I touched the truck was too late for me, so I went backwards and tried to make the save just after I walked off the ledge. That one didn't save the enemies, so I knew I wasn't quite far enough, so I reloaded the save from that spot and walked another step and made another save. That one ended up working, so for me, I needed to make my save just before stepping on the sidewalk.
I will verify that this is what I had to do!

Likely had something to do with actual draw distance that's set. If you max it out you can see enemies really far away.

Still working as of June 2024. Copped a Wounding Gatling Laser in just over an hour (some of which was spent making sure that the Wounding affix was in the loot pool). An Instigating Gauss Rifle even dropped along the way lol. Huge thanks for this, awesome guide.

The area you're farming has an ancillary bonus. You can do a loop, kill other enemies (all having a chance of spawning Legendaries), then circle back, and all the enemies are reloaded and ready for another farming run. Good if you're not finding that prefix, you can keep loading through until you start seeing it, then go back and hopefully get what you want.

3:51 *IMPORTANT* if y’all are having trouble finding the same legendary effects for an armor set while farming make sure you pay attention to this step, I wasted 2 hours before seeing this lol.
I believe there’s a confirmed radroach legendary in the metro south of the satellite array and you can farm it the same way as national guard post

However, I don't think that there is any way that Nuka World is the only place that this can be done. There have to be other locations that are not only accessible in the base game, but also accessible at lower levels.
I remember seeing a video once about a way to reroll legendary effects in Survival. They had a bed inside Hangman's Alley by where the weapon workstation spawns, and another bed just outside the west door. The workstation bed was their Save 1, and if they reloaded from the bed outside the door, it rerolled the legendary effect on the item (Save 3). Sure, not as perfect as your method, but I have no doubts that you could take this location and refine it. (It uses the random encounter by the diner on the way to v81.)
That would be an amazing location for a similar setup.

I'm just saying that it would be nice to find a similar setup in a location that you can reach earlier in the game.
Thank you for the feedback! There may be other places, but as far as I know, there's no consistent outdoor legendary respawns in the base game.
The version I showed in the middle of the video (in the National Guard Training Yard building) is probably the most well-known and easily accessible loot lock area.
The reason the Nuka world one works so well is because you simply need to move a couple of cells away and then come back and it will reset.
Perhaps you could try it with Regi Blattaria, he's a guaranteed legendary enemy. Although he only spawns in after lvl 35.
@@Neometalll You definitely can, yeah. IIRC Regi Blattaria is always armed with either a minigun or a gatling laser (player level-dependent) and there's a good chance his weapon will be legendary. Or you'll just get the 50% armor drop lol.

Crazy rng drop, one of my runs of the triangle routine farm method , I was coming up on the raiders near the deathclaw spawning location- one of the raiders had the two shot gause rifle , then after killing the death claw - the dead raiders around it had a explosive mini gun - this had to be a one in a million chance to happen one after another !

Can you share us the route to farm those? loading same thing over and over is boring. So, doing loop farming might be much better.

At first i was so confused so i just went to the area killed the people and somehow first try got a handmade explosive easy keeper even though i have explosive minigun and shotgun this is such eye candy
I buy 'Spray and Pray' (its fully upgraded) from Cricket as soon as I can then Demolition and Commando Perks make this lethal and at level 62 im still using this as my main weapon, Mutants.... mincemeat Lol

Tip: to help with the timing, use Berry Mentats...it allows you to see the enemy auras just as they spawn in. hope this helps.
Also for those who are doing this on PS5, you should do your second save half way before you reach the tank. This worked for me at least.

Just wanted to mention that as of today I just managed to get the farm rolling with Savegame 1. Savegame 2 and 3 seems to have always the same Item with same legendary effects on them. Maybe it got patched or I'm just dumb :D but still relativly fast, I just want 1 more piece of Unyielding :D

This 100% works for me exactly how it’s done in the video, if the reloading legendary prefix doesn’t work for you I would say do your 3rd save (quick save) immediately after loading in, I have tried multiple different methods like the training yard but can hardly ever get the legendaries to spawn this is by far the best method I have seen, I even look at the gun the legendary has in their hands to find out if their even worth killing, if they’ve got a pipe rifle then they are going to have a melee weapon or armor every time
Guys, I have found out something really useful, if you are farming the Nakano residence chest, click the onen chest button, wait a second or two and then quick save
If done correctly you can do this until you get the weapon and then when you get the weapon you want load the quick save until you getthe ledgendary effect you want, enjoy!!

Something absolutely hilarious was that I was playing a crash test dummy character recently and was going through an area and got an explosive minigun and instigating gauss rifle right after one another... but dumb luck like that is why I use a legendary mod swapper. Outside of some of the more ridiculous ones I could picture some of them as high-end ammo/alterations.
I'm baffled, this is truly interesting. I'm going remember this forever
The "existential dread" moment comes when all the good quests have ended and I have to start a new playthrough, I now use special builds to accomodate to whatever legendary weapons I can find, basically it's nerd rage + 80% radiation + unyielding/radpowered(common stuff) + a random junkie's weapon, even without the junkie's weapon, the build is OP, the most efficient farming method is to avoid farming alltogether.
I have over 1000 hours on my game and now just trying to find some weapons I don’t have yet. Never done any farming methods before as I find they don’t really work, I just played the game straight.
Lucky enough to already have the explosive mini gun and combat shotgun on my play through. I was looking for a explosive assault rifle and stumbled upon this video and got one in under 1 hour using this method. I also have a two shot gauss rifle but seems as though the instigating is better so now I’m going to look for that now.

Good vid. Watched the original for nuka world and thought it was just me as I couldn’t get it to work consistently i.e getting the item locked then reloading for the prefix.Glad you put in this vid about adjusting timing as that’s what the problem was. See, I’m a lowly console player (one X) and figured that PC could be different. I start with a hard save on the ridge, hard save behind the tank the slowly walk (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, 3 Mississippi) to the sidewalk in front of the tank. Don’t cross it. I found the little jag to be a good spot, then I quick save. Seems to work ‘most’ times. Most likely me screwing up

This still works but with a twist for me. After I found the legendary disciple, I did the save 2. When I started killing him I realized the enemies they were attacking also had a legendary gunner. I thought sweet, two for 1. I finally found the weapon I was looking for on the legendary gunner. After I started loading the quicksave (save 3) the prefix on the gunner would change (same item) but the item on the disciple would be random. I kept doing the quicksave reload until I found the prefix I wanted on the gunner and a decent drop on the disciple. It took a bit longer but was definitely worth it in the end. If anyone comes across the same situation, maybe do a test run to see which legendary enemy keeps the same item with different prefix and which one constantly changes.

If someone cannot do it, this will help them. If there is no legendary enemy, load game 1, delete the other saves and create a new replacement save 2. If there is a legendary enemy, load game 2 and save quickly before the game appears on the black screen. 2:16 This step must be done every time you load game (except when you found a legendary item that you want and have a bad prefix then load and not autosave) 2, which generates the random object. If you get exactly the same legendary prefix that you don't want when loading quick save 3, it means that you were not fast enough when saving game 2.
Good job. I still think the easiest way to farm is to complete getting Nakatami ot whatever his name is , when you get his daughter home he gives you the Keyes to a shed and trunk. Just save before opening the trunk and keep reloading until you get what you want. You could go through a hundred legendary items or more.
As a person who been playing on console since 2015. The only ways to get my legendary loot has ether been through downloading mods or the old fashion legenary farming way. You have a F*#King game

This method definitely works, It is just a little odd timing the load in on PS4 Pro with an SSD or PS5.
For anyone on PS4 you need to go to the bush beyond the truck for your second and third save and then this works!

If you play survival just use part of the route he has shown here. However, run up to the Super mutant vs Raider gang event to the left, the scripted event he shows here, the deathclaw down the road, and past the deathclaw is a random encounter which has a dead legendary a decent amount of time. This DLC is busted and I love it lmao. You can also get infinite Fusion cores by running this route.

by my tests, this method works ONLY on PC, Consoles and Cloud does not work, you can lock the item but the effect is locked too.
In my survival run, had to use companion unlimited carry weight glitch, because nearby that area there's one spot with extremely fast fusion core respawning, end up with hundreds of it instead of three when I first arrived in Nuka World. Ammo inside the trailer also fast respawn. Did my farming by running between this area and hilly location with tall wooden building that also always have two factions battle. Nearby deathclaw also sometimes respawn.

@@brucemoreland5228 it's in Nuka World dlc. If you explored the map enough you should notice there's several random encounter location where the enemies will spawn back after you leave the area. This location have battle type encounter where two faction will always fight. There's a very high chance one of them (if not three) will be a legendary. Kill everything , leave the area and come back, a new enemies will spawn. But if you still want save scumming for legendaries, make sure you have at least 45000 nuka ticket, go to Nuka Cade, save outside the building , use the prize terminal (inside Nuka Cade) choose level 5 prize , any weapon required at least 12000 ticket to claim is always a legendary weapon. But you need to buy the weapon first, they don't tell what legendary it is until you buy it with the ticket. Don't like what you have, reload the save and do it again. Limited weapon choice, never found Gauss Rifle there, most expensive weapon I found so far is plasma rifle (42000 ticket) with random legendary effect. Cannot loot lock, everything is random. Assault rifle, combat rifle, laser, pipe revolver, hunting rifle,10mm,.44 pistol and some melee or armour was what I found there,power armour part also sometimes available, never any weapon from any dlc.If you short on ticket, bring any explosive weapon and play the Bandit Round Up game, easier to win, the explosive damage will take all target. There's a bed and matress outside the building for saving.
😄yeah, I forgot about that, you can go back and forth between the 2 death claws near the buses and the wherehouse fight & they'll constantly respawn👍👍👍

Ive been working on a survival method. I dont have a short video, but i demonstrate in my recent survival playthrough videos
This is one of the brighter spots in F.O.4 gameplay. But the the best spots on the map you'll find will respawn & re-roll that legendary enemy after a in game week or 2 weeks.(I'm not sure about the respawn time) but the national guard training yard is one of those places. Even know you've pulled the weapon you wanted once already, it's still possible to milk it over & over.👍

I also have a mod which causes random enemy spawning, so that tends to make legendaries spawn more regularly just because there are more enemies. To be fair a lot of the random fights are much harder than normal because the enemies are higher levels and typically much more numerous. Even at higher levels you can run into four or five death claws which will give you a hard time unless you have a really strong build.

A video came out a couple weeks ago showing a pair of matresses that can be used to look lock in survival, west of the encounter spot. Haven't tested it yet but it looks promising.
Still works in 2024. Playing on Xbox Series X , for the second and 3rd save to work (like someone said in the comets}) i had to do them at the bush near the truck . Make sure you do the 3rd save immediately after loading the 2nd save at the bush. Thanks i got the weapon with the effect i was looking for, tho it took a while.

Right off the ledge theres also some ghouls, which can be legendary and X-01 also spawns there if u are lucky
i dont know if people know this but if you go to the mole rat cave after getting your legendary item it resets the building somehow but you can do it forever this way
also if you have already killed the mole rats it won't work and you just need to get in and out of the cave for it to reset dont kill any mole rats
FOR SURVIVAL MODE,the best easyest thing you can do is just set luck to 10,run to concourd and there is day tripper and x cell in a building,then run to Starlight Drive in,clear it and make a bed and sink,1 frag grenade and the 10mm pistol are fine,make a save,take x cell and day tripper,drink from the sink,run to the parking garage at the edge of lexington,there is no enemy outside and you go in through a door inside the garage,there are 6 ghouls inside there,you can kill most or all with 1 grenade,if any survive just gun them down,with 15 luck there is already almost always 1 legendary enemy,and he can drop the Explosive Double barrel shotgun,if you dont get it shoot a car inside!,it took me 4 hours,it makes the rest of the game super ez even on survival,and you can get this at lvl 5 before doing any quest!
PSA: If you are running into the tank before the save and keep getting the same legendary pieces, try saving slightly before you get there...got a lucky 3 legendary spawns, and was stuck with 3 armor pieces dropping -_-

If you proceed further, there’s a chance you’ll run into yet another Legendary (Butcher). There. Doubled the efficiency of this exploit!
Good guide but I wouldn't call any of the National Guard Training Yard buildings as the best building. That would include locations such as West Roxbury Station, Fallon's Department Store or Gwinnett Restaurant (my personal favourite) where you can get all weapons in NGTY plus Legendary variants of the Gauss Rifle.

I'd like to correct, that Furious also seems to work on guns. I specifically remember owning a furious minigun in my first playthrough. I could be wrong, though, but I feel pretty sure about that.
It doesn't spawn on ranged weapons. The only exceptions are the 2 handmade rifles.
Literally just tried this method just now and in just 30 minutes, I got an Explosive Gauss Rifle! Thanks! Next time, an Explosive Minigun!
Congratulations! Though explosive isnt great on weapons that fire slowly like the gauss because it’s flat damage. Two shot or instigating gauss are the best
@@TheEfficientGamer true, but it has a slightly better legendary effect than the one you buy from The Castle. Also, I tend to take my time and aim my shots, and it has a damage of over 400 for my rifle, so it's not a total loss
after finding this i just realized i had the best and worst luck. one of my exit saves at jamaica plains had 2 legendary ghouls attacking so i was able to reload the save getting them to drop a different unique everytime but i got nothing good and shortly after had to exit save again now realizing i probably could have just altf4 my way to doing it later so now i got a good method from this video its not to bad just wish all i had to do is turn right and kill then reload like before lol

I'm still curious if there is a place outside of Nuka World that could be used. Some people don't have the DLC, plus sometimes you just don't have it unlocked yet.
There is a building near Fort Hagen where two random forces collide. They seem to spawn fairly often and I've definitely had legendary enemies there. I would love to see you figure out the Save 1 & Save 2 locations for farming that place. I can follow your guide, but I can't figure out how to duplicate it for other locations.

I like the mod its great and all but id orefer if they made getting legendarys more decidable or controlsble as being able to make them feels wrong

I managed to farm legendary in the med tek area. There is a room up stairs where legendary enemy ghoul may spawn I saved right outside the locked elevator on the 2nd floor before checking the room further down the hall. Managed to get myself a freezing knife thar dows additional ice damage and freezes enemy on critical. I would just blitz in on the enemy critical them them and whack them off until they die or when the mysterious stranger appear and kill them.

I don't know why, but i feel like the two shot legendary prefix is the most hardest to get. Ive been farming it on the handmade rifle, and ive haven't gotten it once from a reload. Ive got other legendary prefix drops, BUT two shot. :(
It might not be in your legendary prefix pool. You likely have been seeing the same few prefixes over and over again. Go kill legendaries until you notice guns with different prefixes and then try farming again. If you still don't get it, kill more legendaries and try again.
Should note this method can also spawn Super Mutants in for their loot tables (miniguns)
The type of enemy has no bearing on the loot that drops. Only the level of the enemy. So legendary miniguns are just as likely to drop from raiders and super mutants.
Can confirm, as of 6/29/2024 this works on PS5 version. Save 3 has to be really quick right after you move from the spot on save 2 and save 2 needs to be right as you make contact with the tank. Tried for about 30 minutes, explosive minigun go brrrrr

I’m trying for armor. I would make my second save and third and the third would roll the prefix no problem but when making the third save and getting armor each reload would have the same armor. Not sure what I’m doing wrong but it’s certainly caused me to consume more whisky 🤣
Playing on PS5 update. The saves are too late for the disciples on the court, but it worked perfectly as-is for the set of super mutants they rush. Got my 2 shot gauss rifle.
You should be able to tweak the timing a bit to make the saves work for all of them. Congrats on the gauss rifle!

Question, will this work on Playstation 5 / XSX, or do you think the M2 SSD might cause the loading to happen too quickly to make it work anymore.
I was trying to use the old method in the Super Duper Mart, but could only seem to lock down the legendary enemy, or lock down the modifier+weapon. It would never lock down just the item allowing a modifier reroll.
It could. I don’t know enough about the underlying code, but if loading the cell and loading legendary enemies run asynchronously, it could definitely end up not working.
However, my FO4 is on PC with a ssd and a very strong cpu/gpu and haven’t experienced issues.

I was at it for hours trying to figure out why it wasn't working for me. The saves are all about timing, you have to be quick on when you use your save and quick save. It's a pain in the butt but I figured it out eventually.

How is it possible that legendary Guns have a higher chance of dropping then mêlee weapons and yet I almost only have mêlee weapon drops and almost no guns.
Explosive Minigun not the best but it had the highest dmg with aoe

I just walked by the location completing Nuka world for the first time and noticed a legendary pack using an explosive minigun, whipped out my missile launcher as fast as I could and decimated him, I'm ecstatic.

Imo revere beach station is the best non DLC legendary farm spot, 9 radroaches all close to each other, more enemies and easier enemies than the training ground
It's not. Radroaches have a very low level cap and will never drop a Gatling Laser, for example. Anyone who says they've seen that is lying, you can find this out by looking at the Creation Kit.
This does not work on the PS5 with the next-gen update, maybe the draw distances have been updated to be further, so the method is likely still valid, but the checkpoints outlined do not work as intended.

My issue is that the legendary enemies are not consistent after save 2.
Hey @The Efficient Gamer. Great video man! I am "level 89" and cannot get a legendary minigun/laser gatlin to spawn at all. Any advice on how I can fix this issue?
They are both extremely rare. Just keep it up. It took me 2.5 hours using my method to get a Gatling laser! Good luck with your farming
