Simple enough when you have the numbers on the chuck. When you haven't it's not so easy, but I have worked it out.
I use a big rubber band (cut from a motorcycle inner tube) to hold the jaws, and then wind the chuck open until they have all clunked in sequence and jaww number 1 is last to clunk. Then I wind the scroll in and the band provides tension and has the jaws come in naturally. I don't think it's actually any easier or any faster than what you showed here, but I like doing it that way. Mostly because I feel like I'm making good use of a junk motorcycle inner tube probably.

I appreciate the reply very much. The issue I'm having is there is movement in the Allen Head Screws that hold the Jaws to the chuck jaws. It's enough movement to make it .009 out when I got it and down to .003 after I re-tightened the screws. I'm certain I'm not doing this correctly and thought you might be able to help. The difficult part is trying to describe what's going on without it being right there to look at. Thanks for your time and suggestions.

Good video and advice on removing and installing the jaws on a lathe chuck. What about the removeable jaws held by the Allen head screws? I have one that I bought that was made in Sweden, wasn't cheap and a good quality. I was looking at used chucks mostly Buck and South Bend but nothing looked worth buying. The one I bought, 6" SKAND CHUCK FABRIKS AB, was supposed to be within .0005" but it was .009" after putting the jaws back in. I loosened the Allen head screws and put an indicator to give me some idea which ones were out and got it down to .003". I am a hobbyist, could you please give me some tips or hints on how to adjust these jaws, thanks
Usually the top jaws fit right and don't give any adjustments. It almost sounds like you may have something in the scroll or jaws inside. I would tear it all down and clean it really good. Some light oil and reassemble it. See if that helps. I usually tear my chucks apart about once a month to clean. It's a necessity, you will be surprised what you find in there
Anyone know if there's a good place to send off jaws to get them reground? Or would it make sense to just buy a new chuck if the runout is too much? I have a well used rohm chuck that came with my 11" logan. I guess I can use my old 3 jaw for a welding positioner. Or just use it with it's limitations and do all the machining steps before removing the part.
Nice video what do you do if you have a 3 jaw chuck and none of the jaws are numbered and nothing on the chuck is labeled ?
So it seems for my chuck, it’s a 6” and I can only put my jaws in one way, when I try to put the jaws the way you did it catches for some reason and won’t scroll the jaws in anymore. But works fine when the jaws are the opposite way. Any idea why? I thought all chucks were able to have the jaws go in both ways
The jaws will only go in one way. If they are one piece, you are stuck with that one way. All of mine have reversible top jaws that you can reverse. Since yours is only 6" I'm guessing its only a one piece jaw.
