Usually the other trainers speaks about the areas and lsa types and then shows what happens when you use them. Here you went from the design perspective of what we want to achieve and how to do that, which made the topic intuitive and easy to understand. You're a great teacher.
So many gold nuggets within this 30 minute video. Took me almost 4 hours to complete watching this video as I have to pause many times, think, and take down notes. Best "OSPF area types" video explanation so far.
There is not a better instructor on networking than this man right here. I've had the opportunity to learn from him in class. Unbelievable teacher, mentor, and a fantastic person!
No matter what Vendor equipment type you are responsible to managing, this is the best explanation for the various OSPF Areas types and in some regards OSPF LSA's as well. Thank you Narbik.
Thank you sir, thanks for the kind words. I have more for MPLS and L3/VPNs, if you are interested. learningnetwork.cisco.com/docs/DOC-33252 learningnetwork.cisco.com/docs/DOC-33253 learningnetwork.cisco.com/docs/DOC-33254
My deadly Notes: EVERY AREA NEEDS A DEFAULT ROUTE (as a pointer to a corresponding ABR either from External route or Internal) [Type1] - Each router generates a Type 1 LSA that lists its active interfaces, IP addresses, neighbors and the cost. LSA Type 1 is flooded only within an area. [Type2] - Type 2 LSA is sent out by the designated router (DR) and lists all the routers on the segment it is adjacent to. Type 2 LSA are flooded only within an area. It contains the information about DR's. [Type3]- Type 3 LSAs are generated by Area Border Routers (ABRs) to advertise networks from one area to the rest of the areas in Autonomous System. It contains the information about inter-area routes. [Type4] - It is generated by the ABR and contain routes to ASBRs. [Type5] - External LSAs are generated by ASBRs and contain routes to networks that are external to current AS. [Type7] - Stub areas do not allow Type 5 LSAs. A Not So Stubby Area (NSSA) allows advertisement of Type 5 LSA as Type 7 LSAs. Type LSA is generated by an ASBR inside a Not So Stubby Area (NSSA) to describe routes redistributed into the NSSA.

Where can I get a job administering a single OSPF area? 🙂 Nah, seriously, this is a fantastic video...would have taken a lot of reading to gain this level of understanding.
Was wondering why the instructor is using 100s of routes, thinking will confuse people. Damn i was wrong, it is awesome explanation. Wonder it might be hard if it was less routes. Thanks again.
