Ygritte and Jon’s love was doomed from the start, I loved them together though. At least they are married in real life❤️
Fun fact: Thorne was a Targaryen loyalist fighting in Robert's Rebellion. He's at Castle Black because Robert sent him there after the war.
It was Tywin who gave him the choice of taking the Black. I can see how he'd be quite persuasive.

I think it was in one of the behind the scenes that they said originally they didn't want to do any slow-mo shots in the series because they thought they looked cheesey, etc, but Neil Marshall wanted to do it for that particular scene and after they saw it they thought it was perfect. And it was. Great scene - heart breaking, but beautiful. As were the trailing shots where they slowly panned the camera from fight to fight and followed Sam. Great epi.
It also shows ice and fire contrasted against each other, Jon on the ice side and Ygritte on the fire side.
Don't forget to tell Steve that Jon and Ygritte got married in real life. Also did Steve remember that it was Ygritte who killed Ollies father?
Ygritte was a good shot like tormund said. If she wanted jon dead he would have been dead already. She shot him in the leg etc on propose. She let him go without looking to her clan like she betrayed them. She told them jon is hers to kill but thats a good way of protecting him as well by making sure the others won't harm him. And yes she pointed her arrow at jon but she held it...which causes the muscles to tense up (like arya was taught). It took strength and an active decision to NOT shoot jon. But her feelings for him distracted her and it got her killed.

The doggie knew Igrrite's death would be a sad moment, so she came there for moral support. So adorable.
I like the contrast between the scene with Amon and Sam where he says he can still see her face, she's more real than you are. And the scene back in season one between Cersei and Robert where he says he loves Lyanna but can't remember what she looked like.

I think Robert never really loved Lyanna, he was in love with her because he wanted her, she never felt she loved her either. But she was the one never had so that kept his obsession with her. Master aemon did truly loved the woman, body and soul as you can tell. She conquered him soul first and body after. Robert looked only to lyannas body, he never fell in love with her per say. Rhaegar first noticed Lyanna when she cried at a song he played, after he gave her the crown of love and beauty. He caught her affections. Lyanna never wanted Robert in the first place.

Some words on Ser Alliser Thorne: He is/was a member of a noble house from the Crownlands - the region around King's Landing which was traditionally very loyal to the ruling Targaryen dynasty. During the sack of King's Landig Ser Alliser defended the city and was taken prisoner. After seizing the throne Robert only left him the choice between joining the Night's Watch and death. So, while certainly being an a**hole, he for sure has a reason for hating Ned Stark (and his offspring) who supported Robert's Rebellion and thus is also responsible for Thorne's fate.
It's a pity nobody ever told Thorne about R + L = J.
"Ygrittes, I've had a few... " I've always come down on the side that she wouldn't have killed Jon. She had ample opportunity to do that when she put arrows in him before, but didn't. She was pissed enough to want to hurt him, but not to kill him. She had him dead to rights here, but didn't fire and as she's dying she doesn't curse him or scratch him but instead talks sentimentally about their time in the cave. I don't know what would have happened if Ollie hadn't shot her, but I'm sure she wouldn't have killed Jon.

Ser Alliser Thorne is a very good fighter and is actually a very honorable man in his own right. Just because we may disagree with someone doesn't make them dishonorable. Respect for Ser, no doubt.

I don't particularly like his character but you gotta' give him props for that speech and for sticking to his guns until the bitter end. More honorable than some of the "good" characters on this show.

I could see Lacey trying to hold your tears when Ygritte were dying, this shows that a true love are tested during the war really touching scene. Nice reaction guys

Steve - Ygritte is an AMAZING shot, if she wanted to kill him before, she absolutely could have - yes she put 3 arrows in him, but all in spots that wouldn't be lethal. If she'd wanted him dead she woulda put them in his chest/head. As for this episode - I really don't know. I don't think there was anyway she was gonna come out of it alive so it's hard to view it otherwise. BUT, again, if she really wanted him dead, she could have taken that shot without any hesitation and killed him instantly.

I never tire of pointing out that the opening credits sequence for this episode is a lie. If it held to form, they would have spent the whole theme song giving us new and exciting swoops over Castle Black.
It didn't really matter how many men Mance Rayder threw at the wall. He didn't have to defeat the Night's Watch quickly. He has enough troops to repeat the events of this episode for weeks. Whether he finishes them on the first night or the tenth doesn't really matter in the long run.

That was gaemon who was with queen of thornes plus I think one of them is too far apart in age
I think everyone's age has been changed in the show to minimize creepiness.
Am i one of the only ones that thinks, NO Ygritte would not have done it? She had her chance the first time to kill him and she didn't. She proved her point though by hitting him with 3 arrows in non-vital points and he survived. I don't think anything would have been different this time around. We all know that time would have worked this out....but GoT had to have it's well written drama play out for the entertainment of things. It's part of the fait of Jon's Snow's path to experience ;)

With Mance, his interest wasn't in just annihilating The Night's Watch - he wanted to get his people through and south of the wall ASAP. He wanted them to see "look, we can totally F you up, but that's not my goal, just let my people through and lets be done with it."

Tbh they should've let the viewers know about how Thorne got into the nightswatch. He might've been an ass towards Jon but you could tell he truly did care about defending the wall and took his job seriously.
I believe Mance did not send all of his forces in one go was to indeed test his defenses and to give them a false sense of security in " winning" an engagement, but john figured that out when Mance did not use all of his might like he expected, which is why he left to try and kill Mance to end the war on the wall.

For me, Ygritte wasn't a very sympathetic character by this point, so her death didn't bother me much. It was hard to like her when she's participating in slaughtering innocent people in villages.
yeah for real but seeing jon so upset by her death made me feel for it.

They are only on one side of the wall. The wall has defended against the wildlings for a 1000 years.....RIP Pyp and Grenn and Ygrette💔
No. The raiding party that attacked Mole's town (Ygritte, Tormund, thenns) is on the south side. Main wildling forces are on the north side.
The Wildlings didn't really know the strength of the Watch. Had they been as strong as Jon claimed, the Free Folk could have been crushed had they gone in with all men. Thus testing their defences first.
Also - Ygritte had more than one chance to kill Jon. I don't think she could have.
It was a balista bolt that kills the giant, that thing can bring down castle walls.

don't worry steve i also got confused about which side of the wall the wildling group with ygritte was and at one point i was like "are there two walls?" XD i felt kinda dumb when i figured it out

Sam knows Pip will die, he's just saying that to make Pip less afraid in his dying moments. It's one of my favorite moments in this episode.

Jon and Ygritte story breaks my heart every time, she couldn't kill him just like he couldn't kill her when they first met. Both would have died first before killing the other, they were in love.
So Mance’s whole attack was basically a diversion to keep the Night’s Watch focused on them, so the wildlings who crossed the wall could get in & get the gate open. That’s why he built that huge fuck-off fire. There’s no military advantage to that, save that it keeps everyone looking North, while Ygritte’s group sneaks up from the South. That would mean far less loss of life. Once Ygritte’s group was defeated, the Night’s Watch could focus solely on the wall & Mance needed to regroup & plan another attack. They would have eventually gotten through, but it would take thousands & thousands dying. As long as the Nights Watch can use all their resources to defend the gate, the wildlings aren’t getting in.
She absolutely wouldn’t have killed him........
She had the chance already and couldn’t do it. Even tormund praised her perfect aim and said if she wanted him dead, he would be. She then proceeded to tell the whole army that no one is allowed to kill him other than her, then sees him and yet again, can’t take the kill shot. Instead, she returns his smile. For someone who’s supposedly watched game of thrones multiple times, I’m surprised you missed how obvious this was.
If Grenn and his men don’t give you chills holding back the gate from the giant you’re a lost cause
Great video guys. I enjoy revisiting these moments with you guys. I'm with Steve. I don't think Ygritte would have killed Jon either. She cares more about him than the Wildlings or the KW. She said as much early on when she told him she knew he was still loyal to the KW. Even when she shot him during his escape, she was hurt by his betrayal but didn't kill him. Tormund told her as much. All she would have needed was for Jon to ask her to be with him and she would have given up everything else. In fact, they talked quite a bit about how "the free folk" love and are with whoever they want to love and be with.

Oh she totally would have killed him because she HAD to. It would have completely broken her to do it, but she would have had no choice. Her people would turn on her if she didn't. Ygritte and Jon were never meant to last. They both knew that.
I felt bad for Jon when she died, but I wasn't sad to see Ygritte go. She was pretty much a major bitch.
Given the chance, I say no, because Ygritte said they “should’ve stayed in that cave,” hinting at regret.
RIP Grenn and Pyp. Not too much screen time in the show, but Jon's two best friends in the watch other than Sam

It's a tough tough question, I honestly don't know if Ygritte would've shot Jon. On one hand, yes, cause he did betray her and as long as he was alive, she would think about it and she knows they have no future together, so killing him would've given her closure. On the other hand, no, cause the fight was already over, there was no way she would've survived it anyway so knowing she would die, killing Jon, whom she loves, would be petty in a sense. If she's a dead woman, why not let at least Jon live out his life. She was raised in a harsh world though, I think killing him would be the truest reaction of hers in regard to her nature and upbringing.

I go back and forth about whether Ygritte would have killed Jon. Most of the time I don't think she would have. She may have shot him again, but I don't think it would have been a kill shot.
Whats going on with your audio in the this video and the last? I've had to turn my volume down really low, seems like the mic is turned up on super high or something.

Yeah I noticed that during editing... I think my computer updated the morning before I recorded episode 8, and it must of changed the mic settings without me knowing. I didn't realize it did that until a couple days later after I had already recorded the rest of the season... damn updates.
