god i miss this game. i would come home from school and just sit, playing one multiplayer match after another. before i knew it, it was time to leave for school again.... no sleep. i was a fucking legend with zerg rushing on small maps, could play any race and beat the other player to the punch. one of my favorite matches was in a massive 8 player arena. custom map with lots of nebula. it came down to me (federation) and one other player (borg) we both had our bases destroyed but he had two fusion cubes that allowed him to take out everyone else. i had snuck a single construction ship WAY down to the lower side of the map and setup base inside of a large nebula. his scouts could not see deep enough to know i was there on "auto search". so i built 8 full fleets of defiant ships (no room for anything else), and after nearly an hour and a half of game play - took out his two cubes to win the match... god those were fun days
always one of my favourite missions in the game. You can even bring more forces on the map, when you disassamble the sensor platforms from the neutral zone. Let some other federation admiral fill up his officers limit with that;-)
Oh yeah me too. And in one playthrough the Romulans almost completely destroyed the Borg base for me including the cursed Nexus. Only a handful of captured cloaked Warbirds needed to hunt the scraps. By the way the area of space where the Enterprise arrives is a very good place to setup defenses that way the Romulans can only approach through the dangerous nebula fields and gravity well at impulse taking damage as they did so.
you know that if you select a starbase and give it the manual order to attack a vessel, it's range gets increased. probably could have saved you some trouble with the turrets and the dilithium miners.
I always built a second star base at the m-class planet before anything else. That way you could mine it for metal and the moon for dilithium. Fun memories!
I normally start out building a defiant fleet, which I use to claim all the resources as quickly as possible, as it reduces the strength that the borg can bring to bear
I almost always get into a shooting war with the Romulans during this mission. The two inexhaustible dilithium moons and the single Class-D planet in Romulan Space are really the only major gains to be made though they would provide the player a major economic boost. Unfortunately since Iwo Jima class ships aren't available, seizing the Romulan base and the technology it holds is all but impossible. However the Borg are pitifully easy to beat in this mission so the challenge in waging a Federation-Romulan border war at the same time definitely makes up for that. Oh and Romulans are always sending additional reinforcements from outside the map so destroying the base doesn't end the fighting.!
oh yes, that's very funny. You can even try to lure the romulan forces with your own ships to the Borg, so they fight against the turrets. Of course it won't be worth it, because fighting two enemies is much more difficult than using a wormhole;-)
@@quadrophenius5379The area of space where the Enterprise arrives behind the nebula fields and black hole gravity is a perfect place to setup multiple phaser or torpedo cannons because the enemy couldn't just warp in and would already sustain damage from the nebula. The Enterprise is a priority target not just for the Borg but the Romulans as well.
Another funny thing is that, without upgrades, the Galaxy - class phasers and torpedoes do 100 points of damage each. The Sovereign - class phasers and torpedoes do 80 points of damage each.
@Boomer2k6 i always try to keep my stuff fully crewed, its useful to have as much crew on the map as possible so that they do not take up room in your crew bank thing
Actually, the Defiants and Akiras had torpedo capability in Armada I; it was just commented out in the .odf files for them, I'm guessing for balancing purposes; the other cruisers and destroyers were the same if memory serves. I've modded my install to give them this capability, makes a huge difference.
@dragon90slayer Dilithium freighters cannot warp either which is especially jarring is one of the later missions. Caro Ships also have warp nacelles but cannot warp although if they could that would probably break the game. Repair ships on the other hand can warp but it seems like they're pretty slow
@zanviller1 It's on Normal Speed and Even with a load of editting it's still a 40-minute video which is still borderline too long. I haven't messed with any of the game settings except maybe one or two graphics settings
@Boomer2k6 Yea it does seem like the repair ships go extra slow even though they can warp, as for the other things that cannot warp, its probably to make the game harder. There are some missions where you have to use the tractor beam on the construction ship to complete an objective and in those situations, i really wish they could go to warp
@zanviller1 The support ships, repair ship aside, were not meant to go to warp and having them warp capable would upset the game balance. When I do an LP I pretty much limit myself to the original game infrastructure unless it's by far the superior option and doesn't affect the game (Freespace and Ur-Quan Masters and maybe X-Com if I LP that). I don't really see the point in LP'ing a game where you've modded it. You're not playing the original game when that happens.
@WhySoFTW Well the Defiant Class is pretty much a warship, nothing more nothing less. Just because it's called an Escort Class doesn't hide what it really is :). It's just this game nerfs them to the point of being almost useless whereas in Birth of the Federation and, I believe, Starfleet command they're a top Tier ship. It's the main problem with the Defaint that it violates Trek history regarding ships by being small but ridiculously powerful, ST has always been "Big is better"
@Kth77 the game doesnt have the prometheus class, i wish it did, and i dont know why the construction ships cant go to warp, its probably to make the game harder
You can separate the saucer section? ooh, does this game have the Prometheus class with its multi-vector assault mode? Also are those construction ships incapable of warp? Then why do they have a warp nacelle on top of them??
When I played through this mission it bugged on me I killed every single borg thing in the entire area (on our side of the neutral zone) and nope no complete ... I saved checked the other side romulans fought and kept fighting but no other borg ships ... proves that this can bug. before you say it might be in an area I cant find ... I distributed my ships covering every single area of the map and still nothing. Was forced to cheat to get to the next mission due to the bug.

Oh god yes. I always wondered how the Enterprise was able to hit basically every single pothole on the road. Picard let Deanna drive again.
+Android 16 Captains don't let crewmembers drive drunk.
I always loved provoking the Romulans during this mission! Pretty fun to get those fleets to start invading Federation space.
Oh yeah me too. And in one playthrough the Romulans almost completely destroyed the Borg base for me including the cursed Nexus. Only a handful of captured cloaked Warbirds needed to hunt the scraps.

I never get bored of seeing the Borg taking on your torpedo turrets it’s so funny because they don’t stand a chance lmao
I wish the Akira class at the beginning would act as a hero and you needed to keep him alive
+Atticus The Gaming Llama in one version of star trek armada 2 i remember that this was a goal in this mission no idea what version it was
***** i just melted at his Irish accent
Would be interesting. As an Irishman myself, that is.

Loving both your Armada series so far dude. Let us see more. :)
Just when the Enterprise arrives, when you finish all objectives at the same time, you'll softlock the mission as the cutscene freezes.
I used this M Class planet to the right always as starting location

17:06 "...have you got Troi at the helm again?!"
ROFL!

Well, the Galaxy class battleship is probably a more combat oriented version of the exploration cruiser it was based off of

I wish there was a Armada game for the kelvin timeline
Oh and you can use the arrow keys to navigate the map a bit faster, just incase you didn't realise.

Vapantraath you can just use iwo jima ships or other marine ships. they're extremely quick and also have a tractor beam.
7:15 Except in Yesterday's Enterprise; normally, it's a Heavy Explorer or Explorer.
@zanviller1 The support ships, repair ship aside, were not meant to go to warp and having them warp capable would upset the game balance.

13:00 the Enterprise is coming.

Galaxy class is an Exploration Cruiser, not a battleship. The Federation doesn't have any proper warships, the closest is the Sovereign :P
The Borg have something nasty. I know I played them in skirmish. I hope you can use it in the Borg campaign.
id love to see him play the both armadas fully again but with mods this time
I can't wait to get my old computer with Star Trek Armada II back. But for now it's lets plays and torrents that don't work after completion.
@Nyst2 The Romulans would be offended and turn hostile. I do noy know the full scale of their forces
I wonder, what happens if you try to attack the Romulans in this mission?
@Kth77 the game doesnt have the prometheus class, i wish it did, and i dont know why the construction ships cant go to warp, its probably to make the game harder
I would put a ship yard were the enterprise spawns
Builder ships cant get through the red nebula. Nice try though, thought that myself and tried it.
I loved this game but it won't work on newer computers
lmfao the looks on there faces
I kept trying to click the map. lol.

But that's a cheat, and therefore should not be in a Let's Play.
Worst most jarring Irish accent ever, saying this as a Irish Person.
