I think JJ can be a good coach for a normal team. But the Lakers + LeBron factors make this a clown show waiting to happen
Over/under on how long before he's the scapegoat?
There’s people out there pretending like this hire has nothing to do with Lebron. Hilarious stuff
A clown show that won a title four years ago and was in the Conference Finals a year ago. There are 20 teams that haven't done either in two decades.
Lebron could also just not go back to LA
@thomascrowniii1693 yeah that 2020 team was everything that your daddy Lebron thought he was going to get when he went to the Lakers.
All stars and former All-Stars flocking and taking pay cuts just to come and wear the purple and gold. Finally. A forever stacked deck. He wouldn't have to hold a 🔫 to the head of a franchise every single second of every single day....... whoops!
Enjoy that play in tournament💪
Bad idea. He should start as an assistant. The Lakers expectations are ridiculous.
Just hire some good assistants
the lakers are not and should not expect to win a championship this year or next. reddick is the kind of hire you make if thats the case, not if you think you can win a chip this year, which they ovbiously can't
Who the hell would want to be the head coach with Redick as an assistant on their staff when they know Redick is the guy the team actually want to be the head coach?
Could Nash have been a decent coach if it wasn't that Brooklyn debacle?
I hope he gets another shot, if he wants one
I mean you can argue the talent but he was a positive record coach, and for most of the bucks series looked better than coach bud from a tactics standpoint. It was just that Brooklyn was a shit show lol
Nash was hired because Durant and Kyrie didn’t want to be coached
hope JJ makes it in LA, though Im not sure how that can happen
My problem is whatever happens to Developing your next coach while you currently have a coach.
The fact that Lakers don't develop coaches and are ready for these type of situations is embarrassingly bad. Miami grooms coaches for years...Spolstara (started in film room) but they developed Stan van gundy too...Celtics Had Joe (just won a championship) on deck ready. Lakers never seem to have plans ready.
I wouldn’t really say that they “had Joe Mazzulla ready”. They lost their best assistant to Utah’s head coaching job and then also lost their head coach to a bizarre scandal. I almost guarantee if the Celtics hadn’t clawed back to just lose to the play-in Miami team last year instead of getting destroyed as the #2 team, Mazula would’ve followed Coach Budenholzer into the unemployment line that Miami caused that summer. He inherited a team that had literally just been to the Finals, and this year his GM added two great players in KP and Holiday.
Feel free to disregard though, because my team (Charlotte) hasn’t had a good player/coach combo in decades, lol.
I didn't want it to happen, but now I'm a fan of it. Even though Lakers deal with absurd expectations and pressure, I think this is a high upside risk. JJ is like Kerr, Nash, or Kidd. They've all had winning records for their tenures.
I hope his staff is top tier
Could he serve as an assistant somewhere first?! Jeez. :(
Did Kerr? Did Bird?
Who cares? He’s the all time leading scorer at Duke and played 15 years in the NBA….you’re acting like they just hired a random lakers fan on Twitter
Not sure this is Jerry West approved !!
Look at the coaching pedigree he has as a player. Doesn't get better then his history of coach's
I kept hearing that darvin had been patient and deserved his chance when he finally got it. I am now hearing that a podcaster is the next coming of Phil Jackson. He’s not going to be that great
Just say he’s very talented and leave it at that
JJ went from coaching his 7 year old to coaching Lebron.
This is the time of year that the Lakers really care about, winning the off-season. The front office, players, and fans can be delusional with expectations and talk shyte with zero pushback. JJ is a complete unknown and is just as likely to fail as he is to succeed. Everybody outside of the LA fanbase KNOWS the Lakers are a non factor for the Finals. Ultimately, this is a PR move to grab headlines in the off-season to continue their undefeated off-season championship.
Is that an old school A&F hat?
You really were blowing him
This is what you get when you have the original owner’s daughter running the team with her best friend Linda Rambis 😂
This decision will go down in flames as a hilarious blaze of glory for LeBron's twilight seasons in L.A.
😂
Jj feels like the 2.0 version of the Steve Kerr.
Unless he's the 2.0 version of Steve Nash.
Is Darvin Ham the 2.0 version of Mark Jackson?
Lmfao…..exactly how?
As a Laker fan since 1970, the Lakers have become a joke of a Franchise. But the whole NBA is.
What you guys shared is nothing new what is spoken of new coach signing!! He has no head coaching experience at this level!!
KOC, as usual, is unrealistic AH. Redick is completely inexperienced, and will wonder just who his boss is in this disfunctional family. Pelinka, Buss, Lebron? Somebody who has been an assistant would have been a much better hire.
Horrible decision by JJ. Expect to be fired by midseason or used as an excuse for lebron to jump ship to a title winner once again.
He may know some Xs and Os but cmon man The Lakers are full on joke now. What makes him head coaching material of a storied franchise? I dont see it at all. Until LBJ leaves that team and The Lakers retool, they will be a joke.
Who do you think they should have hired instead?

They won a title four years ago and were in the Conference Finals a year ago. There are 21 franchises that haven't won a title in two decades or been to the Finals who'd kill to be a Lakers level joke.
Joke teams win titles and go to a WCF 2 seasons ago apparently
What does that make the clippers?
Still worth more than most other NBA teams. And more entertaining that 85% or the other teams in the league.
I’m glad to see that there are some people who think JJ has a good chance of doing a great job. He is hyper, intelligent and he has a solid perspective about team culture. He is also a grade a psycho jerk so he can handle the egos. I’m just pissed. I’m not gonna see anymore JJ and Tim Legler Collabs anymore. And since this shake up, I gotta look at Perkins uglass on road Trippin.
Like all of Hollywood, the Lakers will see that hiring nepo babies for every job creates a low quality product
How is JJ Reddick a nepo baby?
Nepo baby? Do words mean anything anymore? He earned his place in the league, had a nice career, has great relationships with players of all generations, knows the game, and is getting this opportunity because of who he is.
@@Iconoblasto getting the biggest coaching job in basketball with 0 coaching experience is the definition of nepotism 😂 also “building relationships” to get a job not based on your qualifications is….nepotism 👍
@@Bobbleheads56 "nepotism" is getting a job because of your family. You're just some high school kid repeating a trending phrase like it's the same thing. Kerr, Nash, and Kidd are all winning coaches with similar career paths to JJ who had no coaching experience before their first job.
@@Bobbleheads56So you don't know what the word nepotism means...got it.
