Oh boy, wasn't expecting to see this one in a video today, and I'm super glad you're checking this stuff out! Max Gorelick is actually Kenny G(orelick)'s son, so that's where the connection is there. I've only just gotten into more extreme forms of metal very recently, but I think in the last decade or so there's been a lot more convergence between black metal/death metal/avant-garde metal, so if you were curious to investigate black metal in particular you'd probably find a lot of older stuff that doesn't really sound much like Imperial Triumphant. Not that that's a bad thing. If by chance you want some more recommendations for avant-garde black metal, Oranssi Pazuzu's "Mestarin Kynsi" from 2020 is stellar and very out there. I also highly recommend the 2010 album "Paracletus" by Deathspell Omega who is perhaps THE black metal band that's heavily responsible for pushing the entire trajectory of black metal into a more avant-garde direction.
