A lot of people, young and old, think the old music is better than the new music...but I'm not so sure. I am retired in Mexico and will explore songs from the 21st century.

Thank you for the feedback. I stumbled upon this video on a whim, and I was captivated by your insight. As a fan of this piece, I'll definitely be checking out the other bands that you recommended.
Nice stuff
Gracias
i don't like jason molina's songs that much besides his song lioness
pops is drained
If you're calling me pops that's ageism. Wake the F up.
@@wallbangerreactions I am also offended by your reply, do better. God bless.
also my comment is slang and is positive
@@SuperNick964 OK, I didn't mean to overreact. Just don't like to be called pops, but if you say it's positive, I accept and apologize. Thanks for writing back.
Great reaction mate keep it up 😎👍
Thanks 💯
Oddly enough I've heard a rumour that there were Mauritian Badminton Doubles champions in 1973, and let's put it this way, one of them had a son, who appears in this video. Not Hamish himself...But the lyrics are actually personal.
I knew about the Mauritius connection, but not the appearance of the son in the video. Pretty cool.
You're not a huge The Cure fan you mentioned, but you then said that you like the album Disintegration? Well then sir, you ARE a TRUE fan. Be sure to check the WISH album out as well. it's just as good as the one you like.
Well, I'm coming on board perhaps.
Robert Smith has said that, for him, a song's music is much more important than the words and so it makes sense that there might be long instrumental intros to lots of his songs. He is setting us with with the primary goal, a feeling.
I probably wouldn't have said anything except I had recently watched Tastes Like Music listography of all The Cure albums and Joe mentioned this. Sure enough, here it is. But I don't mind it. Thanks Becky. Are you subscribed? My analytics say I only have 3% women, but I don't believe it.
Endsong would be a good one
Gracias.
Orchid is one of the best screamo bands with a good tone to their guitar, if you want more screamo in this vein there’s pageninetynine, love lost but not forgotten, saetia, i hate sex.
I gotta admit, the long intro absolutely works! What a song!
They do the long intros because it works.
Brother. This is fantastic content. 10/10
Gracias.
hey man, great reactions and thoughts as always ! Would love to see you react to Daïtro, they were a screamo/postrock band from Lyon, France in the 2000's. Absolutly huge cathartic sound and lyrics.
This concert was in 2005 actually😄
Thank you.
Great reaction, would love to see more of the cure on the channel There's a few songs on this album where Reeves Gabrel's guitar skills really shine, I would recommend checking out endsong or warsong to see that. Also, I'd be interested to see your reaction to earlier albums such as Pornography, now that you've also listened to some of their new stuff.
Gracias. I've focused on 21st Century music (see my channel description), so Pornography would be too old. But yes I'd like to do more from this album.
You can hear everything really nicely, I'll part with cash for this 🤘 I think there's more of an issue with synths and electronics sounding dated - people get a boner for the new tech, especially 80s stuff + electronics that emulated real instruments sound quite dated, but stuff's "more" advanced now. 90s stuff, I can almost always pick up on, but I'm generally good with that sonic palette - the only thing I really hate is Butch Vig and the overly-glossed Nevermind + I blame Vig entirely for it 🤣🤣🤣 It's a great album, but whew, talk about sanitised/saccharine(d).
Yes, the mix is very nice.
War on drugs reference is hilarious mark would NOT like that 😭
Do you know Mark? I wonder how you can presuppose what he would think.
@@wallbangerreactionsthey had beef lol mark wrote a song “War on drugs suck my cock” its on youtube
DRAIN GANG
OK
Hi, could you please react to “babys in a thundercloud” by Godspeed you! Black emperor, off their newest album? It’s very emotional, meditative and some of their best work to date. Cheers
I did Grey Rubble Green Shoots from the new album. Have done four GSYBE reactions on the channel. I will think about it. Once I've hit a band a few times, the facial reactions are more subdued. Give me some time please. Thanks for watching and suggesting.
this song is so beautiful and magical - it's always appreciated when heard. the intricacies and artistry. thanks for covering 💖
You're welcome Keena. Love your channel BTW.
I'm good with this. Wish they'd stopped after Kind of Magic and continuing without Freddie definitely felt undignified on the part of Taylor and May. However, up to and including A King of Magic, damn... if there's a band that could get away with overblown, make an art form of it and Flash Gordon's an excellent "dumb fun" film + Princess Aura's still got a place in my heart ;)
I got into this band when Queen II was released. A friend brought the album to school and we played it. Been a fan for a long time. And yet only #85.
oleander is a really good one too!! definitely one of my favourites of theirs
Thanks for the suggestion.
You should definitely check out more screamo!!! Bands like saetia, all my wishes were thrown down a well, jeromes dream and many more
The only song I could find with more than a million streams is Venus and Bacchus. What is that song like?
@ its pretty amazing! Not my favorite from their album but definitely a good song. Just keep in mind that most screamo bands dont really have much fame outside the genre so high views is definitely not a characteristic of theirs.
Reading is my old hometown - but it's prounced "red - ing", not that you were likely to know that. missed Nirvana for reasons. Great band and certainly on record, did not disappoint - "In Utero" for me is their apex and I dearly, dearly wish there was a Steve Albini remix of "Nevermind".
It's likely I knew the pronunciation once upon a time and forgot. Par for the course. I've listened to the Albini mixes on UA-cam. Obviously not the same fidelity.
@@wallbangerreactions oh, meant a "Nevermind" remix by Albini. Whilst the songs are great, I don't think the Butch Vig production's aged so well.
Dude i love your commentary "The 808s? So? So!?"
Gracias.
Do you have any videos talking about your opinions on either: the production styles of modern electronic music or the post ironic lyrical styles of modern pop songs influenced by the internet? One of the things i always am interested in is the intersection of younger and older perspectives on these topics Younger folks are viewing these songs through the lens of growing up in the 2000s, specifically with an interest in the overinflated, self absorbed, and commonly self harming aesthetic of 2000s pop and rock. Personally i agree that party songs sound pedestrian in content but to a degree thats the point (typically not idolizing the lyrics themselves but the ironic content of shallow lyricism) Im very interested in what you have to say about your perspective as someone who wasnt born in the last 30 years
Not exactly. Episodes 93 & 124 are critiques of two other channels explaining why old music is better. Both are logically flawed arguments. You've made me think though. I may very well put something together. Wish I had better software. I'd ask you to join me in a discussion.
"sugondese tribe" noooooo they got my boy! dont fall for it gene nooooooo
hmmm....
Its like this git lost in time its like a American black musical from the 1970s a masterpiece pure brilliant 😎👍
Yes, it's retro and well done.
Thanks for reacting to this song. I have been a massive fan of Laura Marling since the release of her album, "I Speak Because I Can" (2010). Even though I am not a parent myself, I still find this beautiful song to be deeply moving! I do, though, appreciate your honesty in your review. I would highly recommend "Patterns in Repeat" which is a great album listen throughout!
Thanks for recommending the album in full. Right after I finished recording this reaction, I thought of Sujan Stevens' Carrie & Lowell. That's another critically praised album about family. I like him, but not quite as much as most other people.
@@wallbangerreactions Many thanks for your reply. I am not familiar with Sujan Stevens, I will have to give him a listen. I am not aware of many other songs dealing with the joys of motherhood. The only song I can think of with a similar theme is Kate Bush's, "Bertie", from the "Aerial" album.
Ohh - sweet. I'm late 40s and sadly didn't get to see them before Daevid? passed away. Got a few records, really dig Angel's Egg. Steve Hillage +and Bill Bruford both did a big of time there.
Good to hear from you wulfgold. One advantage to having more years is more concerts.
@@wallbangerreactions Brexit and Visa prices have really ruined gigs a lot, only bigger bands with their bigger ticket prices coming through, small venues are really hurting. Did you take a hiatus for a bit? Hope you're well :)
Yes, about five weeks. Not planned, just happened. But I am fine.
@@wallbangerreactions good, keep well - long forwards to what you'll be playing ;)
😎
Gracias.
You’re awesome, love this video as Mitski is my idol.
Thank you and you're welcome.
This song was about Jeffrey Dahmer.
That has been disputed.
Spot on ref Rorke and Joyce; I saw them half a dozen times and they were a GROUP, not M&M w. back-up. Also, bang-on, only M.E.S was funnier albeit always WAY heavier :-)
As indicated, I never got to see them. Cool that you did.
great review! also she definitely is an interesting artist, raven and take me apart are the 2 albums that i would continuously see being praised so i checked her out and i’m glad i did. i’m almost certain some of her top influences are namely sade, like you mentioned, and janet jackson alongside even bjork or stevie wonder too like you said.
Forgot what I said. LOL. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Love this video as well :) Where did you find this live clip?
ua-cam.com/video/PO_XaRG-ujs/v-deo.html
Hi, didn't see this until now lol. I think your first impression is fair, I appreciate the honestly. That song probably wasn't a great first introduction to the Jeff Rosenstock as an artist but rather a main theme statement within the album I guess. I agree with a lot of the others in that Jeff's songs are much better within the context of the album as a whole rather than just individual songs. He is obviously inspired and started off from the early 2000s style pop/ska punk/indie rock. I think he uses those established sounds to express his anxiety and discontent towards major issues caused by capitalism like the environment, economy, housing, corporate monopolies, class inequality, etc. I think 3 SUMMER and Worry. the album would be a better introduction.
Sometimes if I'm not crazy about a song, I just don't upload it, but this was from a community poll. My hand was forced. Many have told me to circle back to him.
Its the song from the dance scene in the film Napoleon Dynamite, and a good song in its own right anyway 😊
Well, I've seen that movie meaning this was technically not a first reaction, but I didn't recall the song at all. Interesting.
You wanted to check out there more "challenging" Avant-garde albums I'd recommend "Fas- ite maledicti in ignem aeternum", "chaining the katechon", or "synarchy of molten bones". Funny enough this album is one of their more accessible albums and the "kenose" EP everyone is recommending is much more tamer than paracletus and leans more towards traditional black metal than avant garde music.
Appreciate the suggestions.
Thanks! I’m a 65 year old American male and I love new music. Annie Clarke is great. Great comments.
Wonderful. Thanks for watching and commenting.
You should give the band, This Will Destroy You and their track There Are Some Remedies Are Worse Than The Disease
Looks like a good artist choice and I can definitely put this up on a community poll. I'm curious about the track selection though. Not a top ten track on Spotify. Would you consider any other songs by them?
Pleaaaaase start reacting to the mars volta. Theyre about 23 or so here. Theyre in their 40s now and the mars volta is their later thing but pleaaaasee react to them 😭 subscribing now
I am far too familiar with them having owned Deloused and Frances from when those discs came out. I also recorded a series 30 favorite albums 2000 thru 2009 and Mars Volta made my favorites. So that's why I haven't done any reactions.
@wallbangerreactions man you're amazing 😻 that's awesome as fk
You're a positive trooper for even liking this bc the guitar work is not how he normally is
Thanks.
Wow this sounds absolutely insane lmao. I love this band but the guitar is so off lol. I've never seen this. Wtf
Omar, what were you doin, bub
I've seen this same set and the song quarantined is incredible live during this set but this performance has my face like 😬
I've never seen this video and I've been a fan since I was 18. I'm 37.
High energy for sure.
vaporwave bowie vibes ❤
That seems right.
I’m late to this but Pat Metheny is my favorite all time guitar player. I got to see the group live before the piano player passed on.
Me too. Metheny Group w/ Mays 2002. Later I saw Metheny w/ Mehldau 2007. Great performer.
This to me is their masterpiece. It's so affecting. Sonically amazing. Lyrically mind-blowing. Has any song ever juxtaposed the beauty and hopelessness of life so profoundly and wonderfully? Thanks for reacting, understandably most people go to Dummy (also amazing obviously), Third doesn't get enough love ❤
This album has a different feel and is right there with Dummy.
This piece of art was released in an artful way : around midnight on UA-cam on one of the first dark nights of the pandemic lockdown . One national tragedy reflecting on another. I’d imagine there will be people who will talk or write about where they were the night “Murder Most Foul” was first aired .
Very interesting.
I don't know if I like his lowest notes or highest notes best. If I could buy a voice it would be his (minus the accent).
Blake is talented.
"Thank God for the lyrics!" 😂 Great video!
Glad you enjoyed the video. And, yes, lyrics.
