A lot of people, young and old, think the old music is better than the new music...but I'm not so sure. I am retired in Mexico and will explore songs from the 21st century.

Their music gets on a higher level when you see them live
I believe you.
I think the section you spoke about that could have been cut down to make the song more concise is there to make the song 14 minutes because that's the same number of rounds Kim Duk Koo fought before getting knocked out in his fight against Ray Mancini. This may be a coincidence that someone incorrectly told me about though.
Interesting theory. Whether it's true or not, I like it.
I know of the man in Columbia you are referring to. Their cover of Everything Counts is my favorite.
I did a bonus reaction if you're interested: Enjoy the Silence ua-cam.com/video/Gj4Pw2A9Jqs/v-deo.html
absolutely underrated artist. the music video for this song was filmed by her sister maria. but i have to admit that some of her songs need time to sink in, but it is always a rewarding thing. she is not only an excellent musician, but also an organist and owner of a record lable called pomperipossa records. i love her eerie video for evocation. also her work for the royal swedish ballet is very remarkable. songs like they hoped for a name and how many more of these? show her huge range not only vocally but also in style.
Thanks for watching and for commenting. Always appreciated.
Wickedly funny and musically adept. Exactly why he is my favorite artist
Great sense of humor.
this got to be the coolest coldest senior i ever seen 😂
OK.
Bass clarinet not saxophone
Alright.
Arooj Aftab is quickly becoming one of my favorite artists, her music is inexpressibly beautiful and ephemeral, it fills me with joy
Great! Thanks for watching. I enjoyed this song.
HEY! I know I’m late to the party here but it’s cause Caroline Polachek came out with her 2024 Album AND did a cover of this fantastic song! Have you listened to her version it’s quite haunting with her DIDO-esq. vocals. Also I LOVE YOUR KITTY!! And LOVE the reactions! Thank you for this great deep dive into this track. I appreciate your thoughts!
love
OK
hey dude! I'm quite new here but i have deep love and appreciation indigo's music and it'd be really cool if you were to check out more!! Some of my favourites would be 17, Real Pain and Late Night Crawler, they just really make ya feel something, y'know?
OK, thank you. Channel is on hiatus right now, but I do like her.
Ive message back and 4 on UA-cam both great lafs
OK, cool.
I would love to see more reactions to Joanna, I totally understand why she’s not super accessible right away but as a fan of language and lyrics and poetry she’s one of my favorite artists. My partner is a musician who never really got her until we saw her live and he got full on weepy watching her play the harp with the full instrumental backing she had during the tour for Have One On Me.
I'd love to as well. Channel is on hiatus for a bit right now. I'm going to retool.
this is easily one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard. the melodies, the lyrics, it all just makes me feel at peace and melancholic. I really appreciate this video, very straightforward and entertaining. I recommend you listen to With A Sort Of Grace I Walked To The Bathroom To Cry by Sun Kil Moon.
On a bit of a hiatus right now, but thanks for the recommendation.
@@wallbangerreactions I understand sir, you're welcome
I love this song and the version Kevin Morby and Waxahatchee did, but I love the original demo it just has a vibe. I probably sing this every night going home from work. All of his music is fantastic. whippoorwill and Just Be Simple are also very good. it's as if my soul could sing aloud sometimes.
I've been converted to Jason. Thanks for watching and commenting.
It's cool that you're open minded about new music. Wait til you hear Dallas Beltway.... Chat Pile are tapped into something legitimately disturbing.
Ah, there is a reaction to Dallas Beltway on this channel. Might want to check it out.
Godspeed y coca cola café, viviendo el sueño
Oh-kay.
I came across your channel last year while I was recovering from surgery. As a late millennial it’s been cool to share this list with older friends and family who lived through these songs. Though I may have triggered some repressed musical memories!! 😅 I would personally advance Watching Scotty Grow over Hopelessly Devoted simply because I can image a scenario where I’m slightly drunk at a bar and that song (hopelessly devoted) comes on and it hits that perfect moment when I feel something and enjoy it. Watching Scotty Grow, in my opinion, isn’t well written enough to justify the corniness. The God part at the end also annoys me, not necessarily because it’s religious, but because it seems to undercut his supposed love for his son. Are you staying at home and not going to picture shows because you love your son or because you think God wants you to? The ending verse just feels ham-fisted and defensive. I agree with advancing Afternoon Delight. I don’t hate the song though that’s probably because I wasn’t around to hear the over play and mostly associate it with an ongoing gag from Arrested Development. Thanks for this! I’m going to try to comment on other videos for the algorithm. Lots of fun!
Thats a very fair pick. I could have easily gone with Goldsboro. Thanks for the fun comment.
Neubauten is your favourite industrial band? Good enough for me. Subbed.
Welcome to the channel.
love the channel and the opinions, i'd really love to hear your opinion on one of the longer tracks, specially "God or whatever you call it", i think it really showcases more of this album's theatric and vulnerable side and it might be my favorite vocal performance in a song ever, it's heartbreaking. Happy new year from Mexico, too!!
Oh, cool, Mexico. Love it here. I'm rethinking the channel right now, so we'll see.
great video very interesting, one of my all time favorite artists and songs
Appreciate you watching and commenting. Great song.
One of the best reactions to this (:
Gracias
Love this song. Your reaction ruled.
Very kind, thank you.
Thank you for the feedback. I stumbled upon this video on a whim, and I was captivated by your insight. As a fan of this piece, I'll definitely be checking out the other bands that you recommended.
Gracias
Nice stuff
Gracias
i don't like jason molina's songs that much besides his song lioness
OK. Thanks for watching anyhow.
pops is drained
If you're calling me pops that's ageism. Wake the F up.
@@wallbangerreactions I am also offended by your reply, do better. God bless.
also my comment is slang and is positive
@@SuperNick964 OK, I didn't mean to overreact. Just don't like to be called pops, but if you say it's positive, I accept and apologize. Thanks for writing back.
Great reaction mate keep it up 😎👍
Thanks 💯
Oddly enough I've heard a rumour that there were Mauritian Badminton Doubles champions in 1973, and let's put it this way, one of them had a son, who appears in this video. Not Hamish himself...But the lyrics are actually personal.
I knew about the Mauritius connection, but not the appearance of the son in the video. Pretty cool.
You're not a huge The Cure fan you mentioned, but you then said that you like the album Disintegration? Well then sir, you ARE a TRUE fan. Be sure to check the WISH album out as well. it's just as good as the one you like.
Well, I'm coming on board perhaps.
Robert Smith has said that, for him, a song's music is much more important than the words and so it makes sense that there might be long instrumental intros to lots of his songs. He is setting us with with the primary goal, a feeling.
I probably wouldn't have said anything except I had recently watched Tastes Like Music listography of all The Cure albums and Joe mentioned this. Sure enough, here it is. But I don't mind it. Thanks Becky. Are you subscribed? My analytics say I only have 3% women, but I don't believe it.
Endsong would be a good one
Gracias.
Orchid is one of the best screamo bands with a good tone to their guitar, if you want more screamo in this vein there’s pageninetynine, love lost but not forgotten, saetia, i hate sex.
Appreciate the recommendations.
I gotta admit, the long intro absolutely works! What a song!
They do the long intros because it works.
Brother. This is fantastic content. 10/10
Gracias.
hey man, great reactions and thoughts as always ! Would love to see you react to Daïtro, they were a screamo/postrock band from Lyon, France in the 2000's. Absolutly huge cathartic sound and lyrics.
Sorry for the late response. There is a lack of engagement on the channel. I'm on hiatus for now.
This concert was in 2005 actually😄
Thank you.
Great reaction, would love to see more of the cure on the channel There's a few songs on this album where Reeves Gabrel's guitar skills really shine, I would recommend checking out endsong or warsong to see that. Also, I'd be interested to see your reaction to earlier albums such as Pornography, now that you've also listened to some of their new stuff.
Gracias. I've focused on 21st Century music (see my channel description), so Pornography would be too old. But yes I'd like to do more from this album.
You can hear everything really nicely, I'll part with cash for this 🤘 I think there's more of an issue with synths and electronics sounding dated - people get a boner for the new tech, especially 80s stuff + electronics that emulated real instruments sound quite dated, but stuff's "more" advanced now. 90s stuff, I can almost always pick up on, but I'm generally good with that sonic palette - the only thing I really hate is Butch Vig and the overly-glossed Nevermind + I blame Vig entirely for it 🤣🤣🤣 It's a great album, but whew, talk about sanitised/saccharine(d).
Yes, the mix is very nice.
War on drugs reference is hilarious mark would NOT like that 😭
Do you know Mark? I wonder how you can presuppose what he would think.
@@wallbangerreactionsthey had beef lol mark wrote a song “War on drugs suck my cock” its on youtube
@@wallbangerreactions Mark had a well publicized feud with War on Drugs. He even wrote a song mocking them. That's likely what @Puckisgod was referring to. Great channel, glad I found it!
@ I read about the feud...after I filmed the reaction. Now I'm up to speed. I still hear a similarity in the building of layers. Who knew?
DRAIN GANG
OK
Hi, could you please react to “babys in a thundercloud” by Godspeed you! Black emperor, off their newest album? It’s very emotional, meditative and some of their best work to date. Cheers
I did Grey Rubble Green Shoots from the new album. Have done four GSYBE reactions on the channel. I will think about it. Once I've hit a band a few times, the facial reactions are more subdued. Give me some time please. Thanks for watching and suggesting.
this song is so beautiful and magical - it's always appreciated when heard. the intricacies and artistry. thanks for covering 💖
You're welcome Keena. Love your channel BTW.
I'm good with this. Wish they'd stopped after Kind of Magic and continuing without Freddie definitely felt undignified on the part of Taylor and May. However, up to and including A King of Magic, damn... if there's a band that could get away with overblown, make an art form of it and Flash Gordon's an excellent "dumb fun" film + Princess Aura's still got a place in my heart ;)
I got into this band when Queen II was released. A friend brought the album to school and we played it. Been a fan for a long time. And yet only #85.
oleander is a really good one too!! definitely one of my favourites of theirs
Thanks for the suggestion.
You should definitely check out more screamo!!! Bands like saetia, all my wishes were thrown down a well, jeromes dream and many more
The only song I could find with more than a million streams is Venus and Bacchus. What is that song like?
@ its pretty amazing! Not my favorite from their album but definitely a good song. Just keep in mind that most screamo bands dont really have much fame outside the genre so high views is definitely not a characteristic of theirs.
Reading is my old hometown - but it's prounced "red - ing", not that you were likely to know that. missed Nirvana for reasons. Great band and certainly on record, did not disappoint - "In Utero" for me is their apex and I dearly, dearly wish there was a Steve Albini remix of "Nevermind".
It's likely I knew the pronunciation once upon a time and forgot. Par for the course. I've listened to the Albini mixes on UA-cam. Obviously not the same fidelity.
@@wallbangerreactions oh, meant a "Nevermind" remix by Albini. Whilst the songs are great, I don't think the Butch Vig production's aged so well.
Dude i love your commentary "The 808s? So? So!?"
Gracias.
Do you have any videos talking about your opinions on either: the production styles of modern electronic music or the post ironic lyrical styles of modern pop songs influenced by the internet? One of the things i always am interested in is the intersection of younger and older perspectives on these topics Younger folks are viewing these songs through the lens of growing up in the 2000s, specifically with an interest in the overinflated, self absorbed, and commonly self harming aesthetic of 2000s pop and rock. Personally i agree that party songs sound pedestrian in content but to a degree thats the point (typically not idolizing the lyrics themselves but the ironic content of shallow lyricism) Im very interested in what you have to say about your perspective as someone who wasnt born in the last 30 years
Not exactly. Episodes 93 & 124 are critiques of two other channels explaining why old music is better. Both are logically flawed arguments. You've made me think though. I may very well put something together. Wish I had better software. I'd ask you to join me in a discussion.
