    Two great attempts 25:51 and 26:47, two nice putts with tremendous pace control. Getting the ball to fall top side as Mark does so we'll in this instance is key to holing more of these relatively long putts. Love the vlog. Vous voir sur des terrains Français c'est un réel plaisir.

    Mark, you nailed it when it comes to Rory. TOO MUCH speed! Yes, speed equates to distance, but too much makes for an uncontrollable swing, face and path. Do you think that Rory is caught up with "keeping up with the Joneses" and attempting to squeeze too much out of his shots to get even with you others? He's made some wonderful swings when swinging in control (when you acted as "caddie" for him earlier), and with LONG irons, which are clubs most folks have the hardest time with.

    • @superduperawesome6858
      @superduperawesome6858 6 років тому +1

      Joe Perez Couldn't agree more. The more in control of the swing you are the more you're going to hit the mythical 'sweet spot'. Most mid-handicap and above players would get better results if they took their swings down to 75%-85%....

    • @joeperez3520
      @joeperez3520 6 років тому +1

      SuperDuper Awesome In the previous French match, Mark caddying for Rory told him, from the right side, blocked, to aim at the left greenside bunker and cut the shot. While the ball did not cut, Rory did not look as if he was “stepping on the gas” and hit a laser beam straighter than I will ever be able to hit with a similar club.

    Mark, can you explain what you mean when you say to adjust your aim (vs. taking dead aim) based on the loft of the club?

    • @RobNorman08
      @RobNorman08 6 років тому

      Its because with less loft on a club its easier it is to impart backspin with tilt on the ball (i.e what we might call sidespin). So if you were to intentionally draw the ball with a 3 wood, you'll need to start the ball (or aim) further right than if you were hitting a 9 iron because the 3 wood with less loft will have more sidespin than the 9.... hope that makes sense??

    Hi mark I have had a golf lesson at my local golf club and the coach there said my golf grips where to large for me and that was causing my fade. So we changed to smaller grips and now I can’t hit anything at all the ball goes anywhere not near the target at all. I am really frustrated with this it’s that bad I am thinking about stopping playing golf as I couldn’t play on a course the it is going at the moment do you have any advice or thoughts on this?? Thanks mark

    • @giuliopetrella512
      @giuliopetrella512 6 років тому

      mate I would be recommending you get a lesson with another pro, as the size of grips would have minimal effect (if any) on your shot shape.

  • @alanwaterworth6464
    @alanwaterworth6464 6 років тому

    unclear about ruling here, is Rory not allowed to elect to play the provisional ball and just pick the first ball up?

    • @ashleypickering4007
      @ashleypickering4007 6 років тому

      No, once the ball is found then he has to play it. He could have chosen not to look for it, but then the opposition could have within the allowed 5 minutes and if they found it they could have made him play it. Best option would be to take it back to the tee.

    • @alanwaterworth6464
      @alanwaterworth6464 6 років тому

      But then if he took it back to the tee, it would then be 3 off the tee, so effectively the same as just playing the provisional ball, would it not? I see the point about playing the same ball "as it lies" and all that, and rules are rules, but for the sake of flow of play / not holding up following players, it´s fairly pointless ruling, imo.

    • @TramSpotter649
      @TramSpotter649 6 років тому

      It is actually not a pointless ruling. Only one ball can be in play. The rules prevent the situation you suggest, where a player would have an unfair option of choosing between two balls that would both hypothetically be in play, if (s)he could choose between the original ball and the (third shot) provisional.

    • @alanwaterworth6464
      @alanwaterworth6464 6 років тому

      that´s fair enough in a comp, but in a friendly between mates, being made to walk a few hundred metres/yards back to the tee to replay a shot when you´ve already played a provisional doesn´t win you any friends among the following groups.

    • @ronniefromOR
      @ronniefromOR 6 років тому

      Alan Waterworth this is a different question than your original one about the ruling though.. Sure, in a friendly game let him do whatever he wants. That's not by the rule though.

    You can't tell your opponent to stop looking for a ball. Even in strokeplay people your playing with can have a look against your wishes. They wouldn't be making any friends though...

  • @majorwhiz
    @majorwhiz 6 років тому

    Mark - your opponent in match play has every right to search for your lost ball if they feel it is to their advantage. I realize you are playing for fun, but there is nothing in the rules that allows you to make an opponent 'stop' looking for a lost ball if they feel it is to their advantage. In stroke play, it would be considered poor etiquette (but not a rules violation). In match play it can simply be good strategy.
    If Rory had played his provisional before Dan found it, then the original is deemed lost and the provisional is the ball in play.

    • @superduperawesome6858
      @superduperawesome6858 6 років тому

      majorwhiz on your last point, technically, I think that only applies if the provisional ball is played from a place beyond the original ball not automatically just by playing the provisional ball a second time.......

    • @chompyb
      @chompyb 6 років тому

      SuperDuper Awesome Spot on, and Majorwhiz explanation is bang on. Now for the but; but at no time in the commentary did Ray declare his reload a provisional ball - Mark mentioned it, but Ray didn't and so it's now his ball in play and could/ should have stopped Dan looking. Dan was smarter, if not a touch naughty.
