In the 70s, my father did the 72oz steak at Big Texas Steakhouse and loves to say "I ate the steak, a salad, two rolls, a shrimp cocktail, and washed it down with two beers and a strawberry shortcake"
I've seen eating challenges where restaurants try to get you to lose by adding extra couple pound of fries and other silly measures. This establishment seems very friendly and actually want you to win. She seems nice and even said that you didn't have to eat the gristle. A lot of these Texan restaurants seem to offer a great deal of hospitality.
Idk if you've seen the video but they actually did that to him at a hard rock cafe in Florida. It was so messed up. Watch Randy Santel (I think) do the same challenge, then Adam goes in and look at the difference.
For the white gravy with steak - we actually have a dish called "chicken fried steak" which is steak fried like fried chicken, served with white gravy. So not too far off actually.

Actually, the gravy request wasn't too crazy. We have something here called chicken fried steak that's usually served with cream gravy. (It's typically cheaper cut of beef that's been pounded flat, seasoned, breaded, and fried.) Beef and gravy is always a killer combo.

Only halfway in and this is the most Ive laughed watching Beard's video. 'The cheesy' incident got me cracking and mom's roast beef was spot on! Couldve used the chainsaw to cut up my mom's roast too...
Cobbler is just like a pie, but typically in a square baking dish and sometimes deeper than a pie. Same filling. Maybe some crumbles on top. They served it in a sundae dish with vanilla ice cream on top, most likely because cobbler tends to be quite messy and it's easier contained in a bowl than a plate. Plus most places server it hot with the ice cream.
You did GREAT, surprised at the lack of banter on their end (especially since it was quiet in there) and there should DEFINITELY be some kind of wall of fame. CHEERS!!
“My mums ruthlessly dehydrated roast dinners”, hilarious that’s exactly how my mum cooked them too, she had to rehydrate the beef in a lake of gravy afterwards so we could swallow it.
@@amacca2085 there are many different types of gravy. Chicken gravy, mushroom gravy, sausage gravy, beef gravy, and your personal favorite, baby gravy.
Aykroyd listens to his stomach "processing nicely". Sleeper movie for sure. I love when he is telling the bear story to the family. Candy was the best.
He's a cow eating, Texas greeting, challenge defeating, impossible beating, bearded man that eats with his hands, can play instruments in bands.......and orders a cobbler. Great vid dude 🤟
I lived in Plantersville for over 15 years. My parents still live right down the road from that place. I’ve eaten at that restaurant numerous times. That video brought back some great memories
No, he mentioned the cucumber right before that. In the UK a zucchini is called a courgette, which is why he asked what it was called 8n the US, and then he said "zucchini.." That was a slice of raw zucchini. You can tell because it has a dark peel around the edges. Its my favorite salad ingredient. If you haven't eaten sliced raw zucchini and you like salad, please try it! You can also slice yellow squash raw and it tastes similar. Both are technically squashes and both are mild and crunchy. Perfect for salad.
Commuted past this place many years going to TAMU from Conroe and finally decided to go and do that challenge but chickened out and ordered a regular steak! Kudos to you and glad you made it to Texas.
This episode was brilliant! Truly entertaining. Had me laughing from the bearded figure in the front entrance to moms dehydrated pot roast to the cheesy sauce! Great video Beard. 😂🤣
Good job, Beard! 👍 I had a 54oz medium-rare ribeye, french fries, mac & cheese, salad, and 2 rolls the other day, as a challenge at a local BBQ eatery. I was successful, if barely. So I received the meal for 1/2 price and got the all-important t-shirt. It definitely told me I'm out of practice, though. I wasn't running out of time, just capacity and jaw strength, because when I finished I had 14 minutes left out of a full hour.
In my years of traveling one thing I've found about hole in the wall restaurants. The less they care about the external looks, the better the food is. I went to a Thai spot in Seattle that looked like they were squatting in it, but it was the best Thai food I've ever had.
It actually is pretty common to get that gravy with a chicken fried steak, but not with a regular grilled steak. Either way, I could see it being good!
My son and I love your videos we watch them every time they drop. He says he’s the beard man when he eats haha. Do the restaurants ever look mad when you finish the challenge and have to give it to you for free.
I've had issues keeping my appetite recently and your videos are simply awesome. I actually get hungry watching your videos. I'm wondering if it would help my Nana to watch as well. She's 83 and losing her appetite recently. The doctors say she's underweight. I wish you the best and THANK YOU for sharing all of your yummy food challenges with us. The breakfast challenges are my favorite to watch. 😍 There's nothing better than sausage and bacon in over easy eggs (I call them "dunker eggs") and after I've eaten the yolk, I make a sandwich with the remainder of the egg and buttered toast. ❤️
no joke, my mothers ruthlessly overcooked roast beef dinners as a kid is what made me wanna be a chef, i thought there is no way im eating like that for the rest of my life
My dad always cooked beef well done, think my parents didn't trust providers. In my twenties my friends would hassle me about the way I had steak cooked. Took me years to get to medium-well. I still can't even look at a rare piece of beef. You did good! Hello from rainy Oregon.
You had me at gravy. I had never heard of cream gravy, apparently it’s more common in the south. Also known as country gravy or white gravy. Country gravy, I am familiar with! I make my own using pan drippings from either sausage or bacon pan drippings, cream and some flour. Delicious! Hopefully you’re able to find something similar at home with one of those names. Also, another name for a “cheesy sauce” in the states is nacho sauce. Although, I’m not sure that would have hit the spot quite like the cream gravy did. Loved the video!
Yea we don't call it cream gravy either. Country or white but the way you said you make it is how it is suppose to make it with slight changes depending on the family
Great work as always, Beard!!! Also, since you were curious - I’m positive that was cucumber on the salad, not courgette/zucchini - raw cucumber sliced like that is a staple with side salads here in the US!
The white gravy is what I would call either cream/country gravy or sausage gravy (if it has bits of breakfast sausage in it). Made with drippings from cooked meat with some flour and milk, simmered until its thickened up.
The Big Texan, I have been there three times and the last two times have really taste it awful, I got I think a 12-in steak, it looked more like a 8 in, it's a tourist trap
I've heard everyone who has done the challenge say the steak tastes terrible and sides are always cold. Boogie did a review of it but he did the challenge in the 90s
I'm glad your sister wasn't doing that challenge with you,she would of eaten the salad and stuffed spud and let you eat both steaks by yourself. Well done Adam ❤🇦🇺
the vegetable you were looking for was cucumber! another great win! hope you find your way to the bardzilla burger challenge (its awesome because it started as a big cheeseburger and fries and everytime someone out eats the last champion the challenge grows! ) one day at Bards Burgers in Covington, KY right outside of Cincinnati, OH (home to many other great food challenges!)
Cucumber has the same name the world over in English speaking countries, and he already mentioned cucumbers, so I'm assuming it was a different thing... so it probably was zucchini.
That was definitely a cucumber. Born and raised in Texas and still here. Never seen a zucchini put into a house salad, but there are almost always cucumbers with the edges cut off. (Edit:spelling)
Cobbler is made with a baked topping similar to a sweet biscuit. A crumble has more of a cut together butter and crumbly stuff topping. And both are typically served a la mode and thus come out quite triffle looking. Glad you enjoyed.
Enjoyed the video. And that was a cucumber in the salad... And in Texas, queso is what we ask for when we want cheesy sauce and we eat loads of it with tortilla chips. I just found your channel and gave you a sub. Love it.
reminds me of the other day when i went to taco bell for lunch and ordered a nacho bell grande with triple cheese sauce and sour cream shit was delicious sometimes i like to order a grande meal with 5 crunchy and 5 soft tacos without veggies and double meat (i hate beans so no bean burritos) then i order 2-3 sides of cheese sauce to drizzle on the tacos and omg you never ate anything so good in your life there cheese sauce at taco bell is amazing! i already ate a quarter pounder value meal for lunch but now im craving taco bell lol damn...
That white gravy actually is what you get with chicken fried steak--so it's not TOO weird. As someone who thinks pizza is sad without ranch, and a pinch of salt on top of ice cream is awesome--eat whatever you want on your food!
I like how they don't give you giant amounts of fries or half loaf of bread that alot of these places use surprised they didn't have like three potatoes and an enormous bowl of beans
Great stuff. I'm from Texas. I've done the 72oz at the Big Texan Steakhouse in Amarillo. Never knew there was a bigger one. I'll have to check that out!
And the Relay Station is around the corner (about three miles) from the Texas Renaissance Festival. It is a popular dining spot for performers and patrons at the end of the day on Saturdays. They close a bit too early on Sundays.
The cream gravy is basically a bechamel sauce with black pepper added. The brown gravy is usually the same sauce but using the meat/pan drippings instead of butter. In the south a lot of places offer sausage gravy as well; cream gravy made with chunks of ground sausage in it. Usually breakfast sausage. Looks like the cobbler they offer is the kind made with pie crust style crust on it, served with ice cream. But there's also some kinds that have more of a cake like crust - my favorite lol. As opposed to a crumble which has chunks of topping baked on it. P.S. IMO, you should have done the peach cobbler 😉🤤

Yeah I'm sure he loved eating live fish and octopus and dolphin flippers
Cobbler is just like a pie, but typically in a square baking dish and sometimes deeper than a pie. Same filling. Maybe some crumbles on top. They served it in a sundae dish with vanilla ice cream on top, most likely because cobbler tends to be quite messy and it's easier contained in a bowl than a plate. Plus most places server it hot with the ice cream.
You did GREAT, surprised at the lack of banter on their end (especially since it was quiet in there) and there should DEFINITELY be some kind of wall of fame. CHEERS!!
I am pretty sure my 130 pound bullmastiff couldnt finish all that food without puking everywhere. Beardo you are an ANIMAL!!!
when the inside of the place looks like that you know youre in for a treat. much love from Texas!
“My mums ruthlessly dehydrated roast dinners”, hilarious that’s exactly how my mum cooked them too, she had to rehydrate the beef in a lake of gravy afterwards so we could swallow it.
Rehydrate is just too funny
my mom did this with pork chops >.
I'm happy you've discovered the miracle of gravy. A properly made gravy makes everything better.
And as always, surprising them by asking for the dessert menu at the end. Well done beard.
thanks joe!
Lovin' the Texas content. So glad you're in my home state.
Thanks bud
I read this as "Texas continent" and thought to myself, "accurate"
what is creamy gravy?
@@YTmoney88 gravy with cream in it’s pretty self explanatory 😂👍
@@amacca2085 there are many different types of gravy. Chicken gravy, mushroom gravy, sausage gravy, beef gravy, and your personal favorite, baby gravy.
11:19 "Well done!" 🥩😅👍🏻
“The salad is included for the safety of the patrons” very funny
i thought so
Seeing you with that steak reminds me of the chef from the movie "The Great Outdoors" 😂
Absolute classic
Great scene
Exactly my first thought when I read the title. The huge slab hidden at the back of the freezer. 😂 John Candy, the legend. And Beard ofc! 💪
Aykroyd listens to his stomach "processing nicely". Sleeper movie for sure. I love when he is telling the bear story to the family. Candy was the best.
@@1bcordell big bear, big big bear
You devoured that meal in easy time whilst getting poetic. I dunno how you do it, man. Legend.
Argentina is pretty good if you go out to the roadside dinners amazing beef of all shapes and sizes
These always make me laugh. Especially after he crushes the meal amd then gets dessert.😂
He's a cow eating, Texas greeting, challenge defeating, impossible beating, bearded man that eats with his hands, can play instruments in bands.......and orders a cobbler. Great vid dude 🤟
hahahaha love this comment
@@Beardmeatsfood How was the cobbler, btw?
Nice! The "courgette" was a cucumber, very common in salads here.
I can't to make sure someone commented this.
Squash
As a Texan, a lover a food, and a beard man. This is amazing to watch! You need to have a post about where your gonna be i wanna see this in person!!!
As a fellow Texan, I see this as an absolute win
You never been though
I lived in Plantersville for over 15 years. My parents still live right down the road from that place. I’ve eaten at that restaurant numerous times. That video brought back some great memories
I was just there last weekend. Went to P6 farms in Montgomery. Small world.
Except it wasn't a zucchini, it was a slice of cucumber. lol. Well done as always! Country gravy fixes everything.
I'm glad you said it and not me lol
Or it was a boiled or baked sliced zucchini...
no it was definitely not that@@sosig8332
No, he mentioned the cucumber right before that. In the UK a zucchini is called a courgette, which is why he asked what it was called 8n the US, and then he said "zucchini.." That was a slice of raw zucchini. You can tell because it has a dark peel around the edges. Its my favorite salad ingredient. If you haven't eaten sliced raw zucchini and you like salad, please try it! You can also slice yellow squash raw and it tastes similar. Both are technically squashes and both are mild and crunchy. Perfect for salad.
@@sosig8332 You can eat zucchini raw. And that was raw zucchini he was eating. It's awesome in salad.
Awesome eating, you champ. Fair play to the restaurant for not overloading the challenge with 50 onion rings and 2lbs of fries. Well done matey.
thank you :)
Reminds me of the movie The Great outdoors with John Candy and Dan aykroyd Great movie He attempted to eat a 96 oz Texas steak huge cut
Mister beard you never cease to amaze me I don't know where you put it another great job look forward to the next one
I can’t even imagine trying to attempt this you’re a champ!
This is one of the best ones in my eyes haha if I could do one it would be this one
It's always fun listening and watching your videos Adam. Always impressive
Thanks Simon
Omg, I can't believe you were right down the road! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. ♥
cool! How is this place? what city again?
@@lobstermania4025plantersville. My wife’s boyfriend lives there.
Commuted past this place many years going to TAMU from Conroe and finally decided to go and do that challenge but chickened out and ordered a regular steak! Kudos to you and glad you made it to Texas.
I made that same drive from the Woodlands to College Station from 1983 through 1985. Gig 'em! Some of the best years of my life...
😝💯
This episode was brilliant! Truly entertaining. Had me laughing from the bearded figure in the front entrance to moms dehydrated pot roast to the cheesy sauce! Great video Beard. 😂🤣
thanks mate!
This challenge seems more like a bit normal lunch the way Beard is takling while eating😂 - with the mandatory dessert. Well done!!
In my years of traveling one thing I've found about hole in the wall restaurants. The less they care about the external looks, the better the food is. I went to a Thai spot in Seattle that looked like they were squatting in it, but it was the best Thai food I've ever had.
Because they care about the food rather than shallow appearance. They're nicer people, too.
It actually is pretty common to get that gravy with a chicken fried steak, but not with a regular grilled steak. Either way, I could see it being good!
I usually ask, yes. But you can get it.
Not in the UK though
With that salad it would most likely be a cucumber rather than a zucchini but it’s the thought that counts 😂
so much information
Seriously some of the best service I’ve ever witnessed.
Love your work Adam
The Beard is a BEAST!! Only seen a few videos, but he crushes every challenge (time wise)!
No pearl clutching over cooking temps or what sauces match when you're doing a challenge! What a fella as always!
Dude is Legend! A major plus is he is so nice to everyone! Well done! Cheers
no joke, my mothers ruthlessly overcooked roast beef dinners as a kid is what made me wanna be a chef, i thought there is no way im eating like that for the rest of my life
Pretty hard to overcook roast beef how’d she manage that
@@stuffylamb3420 fuck knows, ask her 🤷♂️ i don't know cause I can cook
@@stuffylamb3420 - all it takes is cooking it too long with not enough moisture (cooking it uncovered) at higher than 350 degrees.
My dad always cooked beef well done, think my parents didn't trust providers. In my twenties my friends would hassle me about the way I had steak cooked. Took me years to get to medium-well. I still can't even look at a rare piece of beef. You did good! Hello from rainy Oregon.
No way! Thought they'd have Blue Cheese... it is so good with Steak... nicely done Beard too eeezay 😁
You got a 85 oz steak well done 😂 I’m a chef, and if that order came in I’d smack my forehead and set a 45 minute timer
I would say no lol
Before he explained the reason I was wondering if he ordered it well done because it would shrink more.
Medium rare is awesome
You'd be surprised how many people dislike bloody steak.
@@DeathhAngel1 even more surprising how many people dont know the red liquid isnt blood....
I think his cheesy sauce is more like the stuff you'd put on cauliflower. Pretty mild.
Great work as always, Beard!!! Also, since you were curious - I’m positive that was cucumber on the salad, not courgette/zucchini - raw cucumber sliced like that is a staple with side salads here in the US!
Same here in the UK as well.
That was definitely cucumber
Watching your videos relaxes me for some reason. .
Evening beard, this is the one we’ve all been waiting for. Mmmsteak! Got to love America for the size of their steaks.
Evening boss
I like how the waitress was just chillin like it’s no big deal that this guy is eating this much so food so fast and with ease
Its Texas. Children eat like this there lol
because she is twice his size......
Waitress still gets a tip probably
Murica
No wonder anymore why murica people need their "full size" suv's and pick up's...
What an absolute legend. Been watching Beard for years now and I still don't know if the guy has a limit. That cheesy sauce though X)
thank you :)
The white gravy is what I would call either cream/country gravy or sausage gravy (if it has bits of breakfast sausage in it). Made with drippings from cooked meat with some flour and milk, simmered until its thickened up.
In my home town, Amarillo Tx, has a 72 oz steak at a place called the big texan. Other food there is really good and the challenge is pretty popular!
The food there is horrendous though. When I went.. Basic at best. Just popular place for nostalgia
As a native Houstonian it is awesome seeing you visit so many places that I am familiar with! Love the videos, keep it up :)
thanks mate
Well done! Texas is proud of you!
Cream gravy is just a really simple , aggressively seasoned béchamel. Butter, flour, milk or cream, salt and pepper then more pepper.
I'm glad your sister wasn't doing that challenge with you,she would of eaten the salad and stuffed spud and let you eat both steaks by yourself. Well done Adam ❤🇦🇺
hahaha
the vegetable you were looking for was cucumber! another great win! hope you find your way to the bardzilla burger challenge (its awesome because it started as a big cheeseburger and fries and everytime someone out eats the last champion the challenge grows! ) one day at Bards Burgers in Covington, KY right outside of Cincinnati, OH (home to many other great food challenges!)
How can a restaurant in Texas not have pecan pie?!
how can you order a well done steak in tx and survive lol
Cobbler is made with a baked topping similar to a sweet biscuit. A crumble has more of a cut together butter and crumbly stuff topping. And both are typically served a la mode and thus come out quite triffle looking. Glad you enjoyed.
someone suggested going to Japan for challenges, definitely need that done! love the videos, it's mesmerizing!
I had no idea Japan had 'food challenges'
They struck me as more logical people.
@@WV-HillBilly😂😂😂😂😂
Man I love the fact that after a Monster steak you still went for the dessert 🤜 legend
Selling gluttony to a starving world.
Cause it aint bro. I'm from Amarillo. I knew immediately that wasn't no 85 ounces 😂😂
That creamy gravy looked yum! Well it all looked amazing 😂 but im a sucker for gravy
Beard when you get home cook a steak, squeeze half a fresh orange while it’s cooking and sprinkle a little brown sugar on top ! Delicious :) great video again mate, absolutely love the series when you’re in America, can’t believe you got through that steak so quick booooom
