Man, if Willie Jones III is this good, imagine how good Willie Jones IV is gonna be!
lolll
that DRUMMER is SOLID! Straight groovin! Crisp and CLEAN, no caffeine!
everytime kurt plays he's creating a new world
True
So true. Another dimension.
It’s Kurt’s world we just live in it.
About 15 yrs ago i had a bandmate who said when he listens to kurt it sounds like hes making castles
gayyyy
5 stars to every member of the band on this one!
Yes!
Just occurred to me that Kurt probably imagined a flute for his sound. It’s incredible how close it is to that in the high register. Would be really interested what his Axe FX patch looks like.
I saw him play in Oslo just a couple of weeks before this clip was filmed - I can safely say that most of his sound comes from using the attack/decay functions on the EHX POG2-pedal, without any of the octave stuff.
What a stellar performance of this wonderful lineup! Kurt's Solo is the most colorful, lyrical and multidimensional guitarsolo i ever heard over this beautiful song :)
Como quien saca agua del desierto: Kurt Rosenwinkel. Su pensamiento musical es inagotable.
Boys were cookin that night
I listen for such a long time Jazz since i'm young i hear a lot of good jazz guitarist. But his the only one who can satisfy my desire
Da sentire all'infinito, tutti mostruosamente bravi. La chitarra di Rosenwinkel e' magica, lui viene da un altro pianeta 🎉
All his improvising such refreshing it's gifted with his talent to figure out the Thema.
Beautifully played by everyone, thanks for great rendition
Them long notes Claffy yeah baby :)
I think I see what you mean. Thanks for pointing it out. What a terrific job on bass! Everyone here is simply on top of it. If I had been in there listening, I'd have flipped.
Man this band is smoking. And the drummer sounds just great👌
10:00 Willie Jones III perfectly timed and executed snare roll. And he's a big listener. Everything he does is humble, right on, and supportive.
Agreed!
He is absolutely fantastic.@@jazz4asahel
Awesome! Kurt’s latest album ‘Undercover” is a live Village Vanguard session . Terrific!

What a great setup, Kurt is forever a brilliant soloist.
Como suena esa banda
Kurt y los muchachos
Merveilleux.
Most modern jazz sucks. This is the real thing man, hell yeah
yup is it me or do most new players sound like they are playing whining brainiac patterns?
Blew my socks off. Amazing playing by all. Thanks for the post.
The best.
RIP Benny Golson
Band swings! Enjoy each player.
Beautiful! Kurt makes the guitar sound like a violin at certain moments.
EHX POG 2 with the attack rolled down ;)
Sometimes I thought I heard a flute.
For me it felt more like a clarinet, flute would be too high pitched
@@harrymiller1940 me too!
So interesting Kurt’s sound of late. It sounds to me like he’s got that POG2 dialed in ever so slightly underneath. Great playing as always.
Thank you!!!
lovely and amazing players.
Hell yeah.
Yes!
Amazing! All super musicians! The Kurt's solo is stunning!
Kurt absolutely burning once again!! 🔥🔥🔥

Extraordinary! Bravo!
Great!!!
❤ nice playing…
Inspiring
I haven't heard Eric play this "out" before. Interesting. Kept waiting for him to kick it into overdrive. Sounded great though.
Veramente molto bravi
Fantastic!

Mr Rosenwinkel indeed....
BING B O N G
YAMAHA SG !! Great !
Drummer sounds like he studied Alan Dawson. Pocket. Maintained tempo. Imaginative solo with a command of his instrument. Well done.
That's because he's Willie Jones III one of the baddest drummers alive
He did study with dawson lol
@@simhendra2377 Cool. I heard that history in his playing.
Guitarist sounds like he studied Allan Holdsworth
@@tylerfukuda his lines are a bit reminiscent of Allans playing that`s for sure but imo not really comparable
Kurt soloing with his eyebrows
What's that horn?
It looks like a Super Balanced Action, but the pinky keys are mark VI looking... Mark VI with SBA neck?
Or transitional SBA (right before MK VI)? (If so, quite a rare and beautiful thing!)
Good question, we can ask Eric next time we see him.
I'd guess an un-lacquered Super Action 80 (no idea what series). The bell to body brace is the giveaway. Probably an aftermarket neck with the BA/SBA style octave key.
Again, only a guess. ;-)
@@jrgreiner Thanks for your comment, but I just don't think so.
I'm not sure what you mean by "bell to body brace", but I wonder where is the giveaway. If you mean the circle that holds the bell to the body, they are all the same between BA, MkVI, or SA. And if you mean the connection between bow and bell (which could be a givaway if soldered or with screws but only to tell if it is BA or SBA), we cannot even see it in the video. The left low Bb could look like a SA key, but it could also look like a Mk VI key. The right low C and Eb are small, like Mk VI or Balanced, and not like SA at all. And there is no F# key (which SA have). Also the plate cover behind the bell has no holes (like a BA or SBA). Finally, the neck is EXACTLY the same color as the body. so since everything points towards a late transitional SBA, my guess would be just that.
These are quite rare and exceptional horns...
@@ChrisJazzCafePhilly If you remember to ask, and if he remembers which horn he used back then! I guess a short email would be more successful!
:)
@@cab88888 Bell to body brace is indeed the circular piece that attaches the body to the bell between the right and left hand stack(s). That circular piece is very much different on SA 80's than BA's, SBA's or VI's. It has (on the SA80) two screws that attach to the body whereas on the other horns it only has ONE screw on the body. I've *never* seen a SA80 with a bell to body brace like a BA/SBA/VI.
Regarding lacquer all I can say is raw brass (unlacquered) eventually all looks the same, especially when it's on the same horn and played by the same player over time.
Again, these are just my observations as someone who has owned his fair share of Selmer Super's (pre-BA), SBA and VI's and 40+ yrs of playing the instrument. We'd probably both be better off trying to contact Eric and finding out than guessing.
Sweet as molasses.
sweet tone by Kurt. Like a synth....high end totally gone
Yes! I was going to ask about that. Seems like he's using a light synth effect, I don't see how he's getting that sound on the high notes otherwise.. And I wonder if he's got a way of having the synth effect kick in either solely, or mainly on the highs. Really like the effect, however he's getting it.
Nice nod to Blakey with the press roll…
yamaha sg !
Looks like a Yamaha Revstar
@@DabsDad Yes, it is very similar, but revstar has the new yamaha logo, is thinner, have less knobs and most of the time pickup cover.
@@jetxmael is it an SG-1000 or 2000?
@@DabsDad I don't know, one thing that put me off is the pickup selector near the button, and the absence of text on the neck.
I really can't find a model with the pickup selector in this position.
I own a SG 1500 - shopped for a 1000 - 2000 - 3000 - Takanaka model, but none of them have the pickup selector under the strings near the knobs.
@@DabsDad Seems like a SG 400 or 510, I found one with the pickup selector at the same position, and the guitar has the same color as the one in the video.
Why do I even play guitar?
Because it brings joy, even if it’s just one note on key 😁🙏
I hear you though Kurt is so good makes you wanna just listen 👍
Wear a beret...your playing will improve immediately. Then grow a little soul-patch beard : people will listen in awe.
You play because you enjoy the experience, and not comparing yourself to others?
lol
I propose that Kurt henceforth be known as "Notey McNoteface".
Esta gordito el Kurt.
God forbid kurts pog 2 ever broke then he'd have to play guitar again.
Kurt looks a lot like Drew Zingg.
There can be no doubt of Kurt's solo prowess. With that said, his seeming unwillingness to give us any of his unadulterated guitar tone is off-putting, for me at least. The POG or Slow Gear messes with the envelope of the note in such a fundamental way-- it obscures rather than revealing. Even though it's clean, the very unnatural attack makes his tone entirely electronic.
He should have released this instead of piano album and upcoming Chopin album.
that guitar is DISGUSTING...
man i'm a guitar player too , i play " jazzy" but your playin (for me) is so boring ...pfou lol ! ok im a mike stern fan because hes a great composer , or benson because a great guitarist and singer , but you .0..a lot of players actually are so boring sorry ! man ive try to hear or listen to you and many others ...i cant ! you re good but i can't ! thats just my opinion lol !
@Pascal Jeanne Keep practicing...and consider saying nothing instead of posting that a player's improvising is " boring ". SMH
Piano player sounds like 'every-first-year-jazz-student' boring.
Omg man gimme a break. We’d all be Oscar Peterson given the choice but whaddaya gonna do
can you do better?
@@pat717 A mi me gusta, fue de menos a más en el solo...me gustó el piano, lo que creo es que Kurt estuvo muy genial.
