I agree with you man. Nice tone but it just doesn’t look right. What’s next, a Strat or SG? 😂. I’d like to think there’s some story behind it. Like he was out walking the dog and gate crashed a band’s rehearsal.
Yes, he's using it as Les Paul intended. I'm pleased he's not using half a truck load of pedals and allowing the instrument to sound through. I'd like to hear him turn the gain up a bit and play a bit with the tone breaking up slightly though. A performance to make me smile.🙂
Fun story...I bought a guitar at Rudy's in October. The sales guy told me just sold Kurt black Les Paul. I was skeptical. By the way Rudy's is an amazing store.
Oh damn, so Kurt bought that guitar at Rudy’s? Was wondering if he owned or just borrowed it from someone for this gig. His tone sounds incredible on it, so hoping to hear more from him with this axe.
D'angelico, moffa, yamaha sg,westville semihollow,335 and now with les paul custom. He can play any guitar model or brand and still create his own incredible signature sound. What a player!! 😅
I noticed he was also using one of the new AXE units. He may have had a few pedals on the floor too but I think the majority of his effects came from the modeller.
I only found out about Kurt a few days & thought I'd give "The Next Step" a listen first. It absolutely knocked my socks off & I've lapping his stuff up since, and what a great performance this is. To a man, the musicians are just crackin.
Great playing, and it's nice to see guitarist Mark Whitfield's son on drums. He's a monster drummer; saw him perform with Dee Dee Bridgewater a couple years ago.
2023 Think Kurt has finally got the sound and the personnel he’s been seeking. Each one of them brilliant and soulful as cornbread and milk!! Piano and Sax solo perfection in the pocket….just simply high level blues done to perfection. Love every note.
My dude talking like the 2000's kurt band with Mark Turner, Ben Street and Jeff Ballard isn't one of the best things that happened in jazz history... The players in the video are very good obviously but I'm not sure that Kurt is searching for a precise personnel. I think he is exploring the possibilities musicians can offer and having pleasure meeting young new people and new ideas, that's what his many albums tell us. Because if he wanted the "perfect" jazz band, he could have continued with the quartet. Tbh I'm a fan of longtime bands like Keith Jarret trio but I am so happy to hear musicians I love exploring paths I wouldn't imagine...
its only a matter of time until people start claiming that his tone is actually a result of the guitar strap transferring vibrations from the neck heel to the rear of the guitar
@@theotheranswer man just let Aidan have his moment! He's like 19 and playing with this band, that's incredible, just appreciate that without having to point out that you think someone else is "better"
@@coledavismusic I agree that Aidan is an amazing player! you can see a video of him playing with me and his new perspective trio(touring right now by the way) on my youtube channel. But you can not stress enough how much Immanuel has done for the music! He is at the forefront of his generation and two or three generations past as far as im concerned. Spend less time in the comment section and more time listening to albums!
@@Kahlil314 yes, that is obviously true - I actually don’t know anyone in the NYC jazz scene (where I am based) who would disagree with your statement. I am a fan of his music as well. My point was just that it’s unnecessary to take away from someone’s accomplishments by pointing out another player’s success. And your “spend less time in the comment section and more time listening to albums” comment was COMPLETELY unnecessary - I’m a professional musician, I’ve listened to way more albums than I have left UA-cam comments.
Entire band is fire! Les Paul sounds great for his style as well. It's on my bucket list to see Kurt Rosenwinkel and his band play in NYC someday. Thanks for the great tunes.
Oh damn I wanted to go that show and missed it . whoa Kurt . damn it's like he is trying to make sure everyone hears the parts . I never heard him clearer than that to be honest. It's all so clear and really states the fact that yea this is minor blues. fn awesome Kurt! Those young players are all great too. Sax man damn. Bring back Bandit 65 please
This young man has come so far. I remember once he wanted to sit in with us at Wally's Cafe in Boston. But he handed back the guitar when we called the song, "Giant Steps". He was 18.
Beautiful to hear. Great to see this style of music that I have only really heard on my Herbie Hancock CDs being played so well live. My ignorance of course but Jazz is not really publicised much. One of my heroes has always been Lee Morgan and I did not realise he had died and the circumstances until way later!
Haaa! When he came to the Panama Jazz Fest, we had a talk about how having a jazz box was not necessary to sound jazzy, and how for a good time in his career Ulk Wakenius used a LP... just like Kurtis is using now! Awesome as always!
Never thought I’d see Kurt playing a Les Paul!

I prefer it. The tone is much better IMO.
he used to get a great wailing ebony board sound out of his 355, and this one's right there

@@shalominthehome92yeah, his pedal setup is really phenomenal.
Rudy’s, immortalized in Steely Dan’s “Black Cow”
O my god that pianist is insanely amazing
Ok but Kurt's solo, my godness!
You know it's good when your groaning involuntarily while listening

Although the LP and the Yamaha SG are quite similar in terms of design and sound.
Yeah and new hat too.

i bet these young musicians are having the time of their lives playing with kurt
Great jazz musicians play ideas, not just licks. That is what we have here. So beautiful to hear.
Oh my DAYS the drummer is going mad
Im glad to be alive in this timeperiod.
Never see kurt playing the same guitar twice ,
That piano solo...omg
Great playing, and it's nice to see guitarist Mark Whitfield's son on drums. He's a monster drummer; saw him perform with Dee Dee Bridgewater a couple years ago.
He’s burning 🔥 sounds so good

What a wonderful sound of guitar! THIS is something modern jazz. Amazing genious. I like very much! Greetings from Finland!
I think the Gibson Les Paul Custom suits Kurt a lot ......

Exciting band, best young sax player I've heard in a while, looks to be playing a Conn and a Berg, everyone sounds great.

Excellent sax player, should play more choruses!!!
Ha ha! Whitfield Jr.! Killer! Kurt sporting a Les Paul! Great audio quality. Thanks for posting these.
Crazy how Whitfield Jr. is using some heavier pro marks yet his sound is still so smooth and light
@Chris Cook he's burning 🔥!
Amazing!!! The Young energy of Kurt R !!!!!
Saw Rosenwinkel yesterday. One of my favourites. Aidan McKeon on sax was an interesting encounter.
Alexander Claffy!! Smashing!!

What a phenomenal group! Kurt is such a strong bandleader.
