You have to be this bands most loyal fan. Every video that is related to lovebites, there you are. I have to say, how do you have the time to find all these new videos and comment the lyrics?
The Japanese metal scene is also saturated, with tons of underground bands (same for rock and punk), but there is much more attention paid to true musicianship. Everyone is required to learn an instrument as part of K-12 education, so the pool of capable musicians is essentially unlimited. One of the reasons the scene is dominated by women is that far more girls take the music studies seriously than the boys do, and many of the boys get pulled into pop instead of heavier music. I know nothing about the social media environment for musicians there, so someone else would have to comment on that.

Lovebites are easily my favorite of all the Japanese female metal bands. Lovebite's just sound so much "larger" than the others to my ears. I can say that in 50+ years of listening to metal that they measure up to all the past greats. drummer Haruna plays as demanding dbl-kick work on the last song of a 2 hours show as the beginning, never any sign of fatigue or missed beats. Her cymbal work is uniquely impressive. I am a drummer also. That "Best New Band" must be noted, no gender qualifier, so, competing with male & mixed & other all-women bands worldwide! New bassist will not be selected until mid August. First stage complete but those progressing to next stage not publicly announced yet. Next stage includes performing IN Tokyo where residence will be expected. I enjoyed your video, thanks.
Great review of yours. About her stamina on her double bass drums, their shows last about two hours and they keep up this energy and quality of sound. This drummer has another thing, she regularly uses an ice bell which not many drummers do.

competition in japan is crazy strong. but lovebites are insanely good. they are not just speed/power metal or thrash metal. they really do have their own style. and they´ve got something, that lacks the most of other bands, who try to compensate that with "who´s the most aggressive sounding?". Lovebites can write songs. in their backcatalogue of around fifty songs, there is no bad or even mediocre one. one reason for so many talented musicians in japan is the excellent musical education and the good infrastructure for aspiring musicians. there are many music clubs and they all have drumkits and amps there on site. and therefore there are much more opportunities to play live and grow. thank you for this reaction/analysis. btw: miyako was at the end of the second trimester of her pregnancy back then.

From what I can tell, the Japanese music scene is very lively, with many different styles of music involved. Another unique style they are doing is visual kei...what we in the West would call Glam Rock. Rock stars acting and looking like rock stars....imagine that?? Haven't seen that since the 80's. Of course, I graduated high school in 1982, so that was my style and I loved it. As for LoveBites, I can hear a heavy Iron Maiden influence with a huge dash of DragonForce in their guitars. It is the perfect combination.

I would go as far as saying the average Japanese college band has better musicians and song writers than many established successful western bands. If you carry on with your delve into Japanese rock and metal bands you will discover bands that are no longer together playing crazy good and the remnants of those bands forming new groups, such as Lovebites and Nemophila.
