Thanks for this Pete, very helpful. I just ordered the V30 closed back a week or so ago to go with my SLO-30, so it’s good to be able to hear the Redback too. I’m happy with my choice. The V30 sounds punchier and more focused, the Redback more mellow. Interesting that they’ve offered a choice with the 1x12, as all their other cabs are are closed back with V30’s. Also interesting that they’ve gone with the Redback in the new 1x12 combo.
Glad I caught this video. Always wanted to hear the difference side by side. Loving the tightness of the closed back for rhythms and the more rounded tone of the open back for leads. 🤘🤘🤘
Boy Howdy, that SLO30 sounds fantastic!!!! Pete Thorn you sound AWSOME, great playing. I have an old school SLO100, I usually dont love it with V30’s but I do dig this V30 situation…..🎸🎸🔥🔥
Thanks for giving back to the community. Yep your new video with boss EVH delay is awesome! Question: what is the Suhr telecaster you are using? Is it hollow or solid? Can you tell us more about it? Thanks, Michael
As always, amazing playing and demonstration of this very nice sounding gear, Pete! Couldn't help but wonder: are you a fan of Toad the Wet Sprocket? The gorgeous in between sound you solo @4:54 reminds me of their vibe quite a lot! And yes, this is definitely meant as a compliment!
Great playing as usual. Quick questions. For a live W/D/W rig would you recommend the open back or closed for the wet? Also was that feedback at the end naturally produced with help from the ironman II or was that from a Digitech FreqOut? Sounded awesome!
Pete, I bet it would be cool to hear these blended. Did you try it? I have the new 1x12 combo with the Redback, and it sounds great. I've never been able to get along with a closed back 1x12 in the room. Strangely, I prefer the V30 mic'ed sounds here. I may have to try a V30 in the combo at some point.
Incredible amp and playing there Pete, as usual. Soldano used to always use Eminence speakers. Which I never really understood as Celestions, to my ears anyway, sound way better. I love my SLO 30
Mike switched from Celestion to Eminence sometime well before 2002 when I was talking with him because Celestion customer service was awful and they were going to require him to buy equal amount of pallets of different speaker models, regardless of how many V30s or Greenbacks he actually wanted to buy. I've got a 2002 V30 and WGS Retro 30 in my Avatar 2x12 and a G12H30 in my astoverb's 1x12 combo cabinet (which is a custom-ordered closed-back that they made for me in 2004). Mike is a super duper nice guy.
Yet another amazing demo by Mr. Pete Thorn!! These sound incredible! My only gripe is that NO ONE CAN AFFORD THESE!. 899.99 for a 1x12 speaker cab? That's ALOT of no beer, ramen noodles living to get one....for us regular chaps who don't make 6 or 7 figures yearly. I'd be really interested in these if they were $450-500. Forget about a buying a full tube Soldano @ 4.000$. This is why everyone thinks musicians are rich. Buy this cab, an slo 30 head, 3000$ Les Paul or PRS, couple strymon pedals and you're scratching 10k territory uffffff. Hey Pete, any chance Suhr will do an "affordable" version of your sig? Like ever? Thanks for the content!

Such tasteful playing, and a joy to watch. His reviews are also so well-explained. God-given talent. ❤️🎸
Very cool, interesting hearing the difference. I kinda liked the closed v30.
You literally ended on a high note🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Glad I caught this video. Always wanted to hear the difference side by side. Loving the tightness of the closed back for rhythms and the more rounded tone of the open back for leads. 🤘🤘🤘
I loved both of the cabs but preferred the closed back. As usual your playing challenged both so we can hear the difference. Great demo!
Crushed it! Great sound, as always Mr. Thorn!
Freaking awesome sound!
Great song, Pete!
PS, I was blown away with your Boss EVH Delay video!
Someday, I will have that pedal!

Dude! Best demo videos ever!
Mahalo Pete!
The slo tone really makes your sig guitar sound unreal🤟
Awesome video! Can really hear the extra punch the closed back has.
Redback sounds awsome

Nice vid, Pete. The Soldano stuff really rocks. I like both cabs, too. I need a Pete Thorn pedal, though, so I can play like that. 😆

The cleans on the Redback are awesome.

awesome as usual! - question: can you put the 150W redback into a closed 1x12? or will it blow it apart to smithereens?
I literally no nothing about gear. I come just to watch and hear Pete play.
Crushed it Pete
I really liked what you made for the into of this video!
Man that song is so good!!!!
Geeze that intro was insanely badass 😮
Hi Peter, what mic are you using? Thanks. -big fan.
Wow I really liked the overall tonality of the Redback! I don't usually like the higher than 75 watt variants.
The closed back v30 all the way. 🤘
Great video. Thank you! 🙋🏻♂️
Guess we'll be discussing this at your next podcast. Sounds very unique. Really cool. 😎🤓
The Redbacks remind me of another spear that handled high volume and gain really well. Looking for some as we speak
Hi Pete. How do you choose whether you are going to use your Ironman II, or the Fryette Power Station? Thanks.

The SLO30 was a bucket list amp for me…and a gateway drug to stupid expensive gear!
That's one knarly tone. Sounds great.
Great sounding cabs for stereo rigs!

Open Back, In This demonstration
Mike got it right!!!
5:30! 😃😃😃😃
Wow only $900 or $700 for a black one. JFC this is getting silly.
Nice!!
I’ll buy 8 for a full stack ;)
whos got the irs? lol been doing some heavy lifting though lately...damn
