KIDS IN JUVENILE PRISON - Full Documentary: Abel, Andrew and Bobby Behind Bars

  • In this video from our archive, we look back at what life was like for teen boys who were locked up inside one of America's largest juvenile prisons. With a capacity for 400 teens, juvenile prison is the "last stop" in the juvenile justice system before kids commit crimes that would get them sent to adult court and adult jail. In this juvenile prison, teens must complete a 5 level program before gaining their release. As we see in this documentary, completing those levels and getting through the release process is never easy. However, once teens complete the program, they are proud to go through graduation ceremonies where family and friends can witness their transformation.
Update: Several years after his release, Abel was arrested in 2017 for possession and dealing in methamphetamines. He received a 2 years sentence.

If you are working with children (or really anyone) to teach them how to regulate their emotions, telling them to stop crying when they’re upset is probably not the best approach…….

Once your in detention. Officers and our system needs to have classes for these issuses

I agree with your comment, but what time is this video from?
As, if it is old (as it looks from the quality) then more issues in addressing emotions arise.

As someone from central indiana, who was in and out of boys school and juveniles, these places dont do much but prepare you for prison life. Theres a small percentage that it has the intended effect on, just out of fear and being away from your family. But if youre from a broken home amd being away from your loved ones for long periods (both physically and/or emotionally) doesnt bother you, it has the opposite effect. Especially if youre already out running the streets in search of that comradorie, its easy to find in boys school. You have to stick together. The system is just so broken from the roots up. As a grown man in my 30s now, its so crazy to see these kids. That was me. So many of my "friends" ended up in the meat grinder that was the adult prison system after this. Its just sad 😔

@badger297 - very much appreciate you telling your own story and experience. It's important for viewers to hear from people who have lived it and somehow survived it all (like you did). The system is no place for a kid. The question that everyone seems to grapple with is, what IS the answer? Many differing opinions on that. We hope our videos help show the inside of a system that people rarely get to see. Thanks again for watching.

@@CalamariProductions thank you for taking the time to film and upload these. I agree with you. I do believe that finding an appropriate solution will take time and effort. It's just frustrating to see the cycle perpetuated. As much as I don't know what will work, I feel as tho I know what doesn't and hasn't been working

I just read just now that in 2010 Edgar Muñoz was arrested and given a one year sentence for possession of hash, Marijuana, and hash oil. Then last month there was an Edgar Muñoz (not sure if it was him) who arrested in California for being in a sexual relationship with a minor. Andrew Huff did some really good things for himself. He went to University, and is a lab tech and is a CEO of his own entertainment company

i have a small school for boys but most single mothers can't afford it. 95% of the time these kids just need a dad, after a couple of months we usually enroll them in the local high school, a high school diploma is part of the release agreement but we have two full time teachers. i personally spend time with each one of them every day, both individually and as a group. Behavioral issues almost always arise from frustration, life is full of frustration. It surprises me how well they respond to positive reinforcement

It hurts so much to see kids living this life. Yes I know they committed crimes and did horrific things. But the frontal lobe of our brains don’t even develop by their age. All they needed was better upbringing and ppl who loved them. And dedicated time to try to help them.

What is the answer behind finding a solution for our next Generation....or this just another revolving door do we wait till the child begins its life down the rabbit hole then we call them disfunctional uncontrollable monsters!....where do we think it should start...from the home... because if we dont find a answer soon we gonna see more incarcerated at young ages then to adult prisons and cogs on the wheels keep on turning
